Muzzles wont help...mine haven't bitten. It's other people's dogs that bite mine. I take the dogs out one at a time so i can maximize my availability to protect my dog. If its a small dog that's attacking, i lift and carry my dog in my arms until we are away. Oscar is the only one I can't lift to safety. But for large dogs, there's no way to keep mine safe. Chainmil dog suits!?!? This morning i did 4 laps around my block which totaled 1.25 miles. Boring but much safer! Here's some good news... The across the street neighbors haven't bothered me in a few months!!! I guess they got bored.0

Jan- very glad to hear your rotator cuff isn't torn. Hope the meds and PT help!0

Hi
I am still waiting for the forecast rain, however it is on the way. However I did get out walking + 1 Really corroded penny that I am not sure how I even saw it sitting in the grass alongside of the Sidewalk. The rain is coming slower than originally forecast which is good as I got out the door later than usual.
I had my Breakfast and then went out to our shed and pulled the carburetor off of the rototiller as it does run on starting fluid or a squirt of gas in the carburetor and when that is gone dies. Thus I did order a rebuild kit and have started taking it apart to see if I can get it going properly, if not then I can order a replacement carburetor via Amazon or Briggs and Stratton. Wish me luck
Have a Good Thursday
RogerHi Val!
Loading the dogs to another location sounds like a possible solution. Leave it to Roger! I am glad you are turned around again! Stress and comfort management sounds like a problem we both face!! I gained 25 lbs back, but part is falling off quickly. It does feel good to get some of that weight back off. Even breathing is easier! Supposedly to get that shot in the MRI, I needed to be in that position. Not my cup of tea!
Hi Roger! Don't let my MRI experience get to you. I guess with contrast is worse, so if they do without contrast it is better. I just found the doctors fine, and the staff knowledgeable on their machine, but their nursing skills about zero. A pillow and some input on time passed could have helped me finish the test.
Looks like a lot more people than I thought have those wiper problems!
MRI people called. No torn rotator cuff! He said I have severe arthritis in that shoulder and all along there. He is putting me on 2 arthritis pills and scheduling me for 2 months of PT. I can live with that!! He said we are trying that first, which implies he may think I need that joint scraped. LOL!!! I will make use of the PT and leave well enough alone, I think!!
I am trying to finish up my taxes. Can I believe I am one of those people that waited till the end?? (eye roll!!!)
Take care all! Hang tough!! Jan
Hi Jan
Thanks for the kind words, I have to agree that having a countdown clock could make it much more endurable.
I have to wonder if a scraping would help or do they do shoulder replacements? Good Luck.
Did You ask about some type of shot to help too? I Worked with people that had to get a shot in the shoulder and supposedly the relief was miraculous.
Good Luck with the PT
Roger0 -
Thanks Val and Roger!
I feel I can go the PT route. When I talk with my regular Dr. I can get a handle on the situation better too. Pt is the immediate, shots may be more long term. They might not want to mask pain to see PT progress. My guess. The scraping would be to relieve pain due to deposits or spurs. My guess it depends on the PT. That is least invasive, so done first. After the MRI, that may color my decision, LOL! In your case Roger, you would have to determine why the pain first, starting with regular x-rays, then moving on. At least, that was my path!!
I did purchase a fitbit- the Charge. I did want to follow my sleep and it was on sale. It took me a while to set up, but I did it all by myself. Imagine my shock when it comes with no instructions!! Hopefully I will move more, seeing the low steps I take flashed in front of me!!
Rodger, I am of course impressed with your computer skills, and now with the tech know-how to work on your tiller. I am lucky to find the off/on switch to most things. Once I get something I am fine, but it takes a while!! I would blame it on age, but you do much better! I am 62. Just caught in the gap of trying technology, but being confused by it!
Val, I am so glad you are back on track and walking. I know it is a little hard to move when something hurts, but help it does!
Back to taxes, BIG sigh!!!!!
Good progress, all!!! Jan

Hi Jan. Good luck w the taxes. I used to completely love my FitBit Charge. Find other NS folks and join the daily challenges...fun and it works to trick yourself into doing more. Mine died at 6 months and about 5 gi-rounds with email customer service (i felt that they were very rude)...i gsve up (that was Christmas time when my friends had just died, so there was nothing left in me to deal w them). I may get another tracker...I should...it was a ton of fun and was very motivating. When do you start PT! ~Val0

Hi Roger, i too am very impressed w your mechanical and computer skills. You exemplify perserverence....steady and keep going gets you there! Thanks for your perpetual positivity! ~Val0

Hi
When I started walking to the post office to mail a payment it was not to bad out, However while I was out the sky kept getting darker and a chilly wind out of the North kept slowly increasing until I was glad to get home. I did stop and talk to two of the crossing guards while I was out walking. The rest of the time I was listening to "Boston Blackie" a old time radio show.
I also filled the one Bird Feeder. While walking this week the Colors I see in bloom are Yellow on the Forsythia and Lots of Dandelions as well as Purple on plenty of Grape Hyacinths.
Have a Great Friday

Hi Val
My FitBit Zip died in a similar time frame, I did not even think of warranty until it was suggested to me, Then I called them and they walked me through things to try and when that was no go, they replaced it for me. No Need to even return the old one. If You are within the warranty period I would try again.hope4change_val wrote: »Hi Roger, i too am very impressed w your mechanical and computer skills. The Computer Skills are a leftover from when I worked as are the Mechanical skills for an even earlier job.
Thank You for Your Kind Words

Hi
Just a quick update as regards the Tiller, The first Thing we did last fall, pull the fuel tank and flush it, then Change the fuel lines as they were slightly cracked from age. I did put Stabil, a gas stabilizer in the gas in the tanks and gas can last fall.
A Rebuild of the Carburetor using a Rebuild kit from Amazon and a cleaning of parts using Carburetor cleaner and when I installed the Carburetor today, set the choke and filled the tank it fired right up and churned the ground as it is supposed to do, We did not till today beyond testing it as it is cold outside with the wind chill
Good to know my memory was not letting me down as to what is ToFu.
Have a Good Day

Hi
I found a dime AKA 10 cents on the homeward leg of my morning walk. I am still waiting for the forecast snow or rain to start. That means I had a good mornings walk and stayed dry, I did have to wear a Sweatshirt & a Hoodie with Mittens to keep warm on my walk. I refilled the Squirrel proof bird feeder on my return to the house. The Birds seem to be hungry right now
Currently I am capturing a 4 hour VHS tape on my big computer and will be editing and Converting it to be in DVD format when that has finished. It is three different Specials I recorded back in the 80s.
Have a Great Weekend

Hi
I found 11 cents while out walking. It is a nice sunny day currently OTOH It was chilly today when I was out. We had sprinkles of rain twice yesterday, Parts of South New Jersey had 3 inches of snow reported.
Have a Good Sunday

3-inches of snow? Wow. I hope spring finds you soon. My peach tree is getting blooms and leaves...and out other trees are fully decked out in spring leaves.0 -
Hi
No money found today, yesterday I did find 11 cents however. I could see that it had drizzled before I left the house today so I clipped the larger Umbrella to the backpack and took it with me that way just in case. I did unclip it once but it drizzled lightly and then stopped so I clipped it back on. I am using two carbiners to do that, One clips around the umbrella by the handle and then I use the second one to connect that one to the backpack. It works and keeps the Umbrella out of the way if not needed. I need to research and see if anyone sells a sling for umbrellas as a easier alternative.
Have a Good Week

Well it did stay south of us, so far so good. The different flowering trees have been in bloom here too. OTOH I am not really seeing leaves yet.

I love carabiners!!! So many uses. A "dime" is also street slang for a certain quantity of drugs.0 -
Not much happening here. Continuing to do well with my food choices. Staying safely away from the Doberman and just walking around the little block. All weekend i watched Downton Abbey. Normally that's not my type of show, but I completely loved it...excellent character development and interactions plus overlays of historical occurrences and technology advances. It's free for Amazon Prime members....except for the final season! So, I ordered that on Dvd.0

Hi! Guys!!
Well, I am pretty impressed with you all!!! Roger, I wish you were my next store neighbor and you could fix my handyman problems- You could have a lucrative side line!! I do not envy you your cold weather, but it is sure funny how some of your stuff is in bloom already, it seems early! Great job on the tiller!! I have never heard of Boston Blackie, when was it on originally?
Val, great effort getting back on track! I am glad your walks are safer now. Be patient and your distance and time will grow! I love Downtown Abbey, so sorry it has ended, but it is a keeper to watch again, especially considering some of the new stuff offered out there! Years ago I always watched Ann of Green Gables (PBS version with Megan Fellows?, and I forgot her name!). It always cheered me up in difficult times!
I started my PT today. It is not too more painful, considering how much it hurts anyway! I go 3 times a week for a month. That bites into my time, but all in all, it could be worse. Apparently I have bone spurs in the joint, degeneration, and several other joint problems in the shoulder make-up. Hoping for a non-surgical solution. The final 20 minutes on the their heated TENS machine is more than worth the copay, and even partially makes up for the MRI!!! It is so fabulous, I may look up to see how much a small machine would cost, lol!!
I filed my taxes, and broke even. Happy Day....
Gained a little wt. learning how to make homemade tamales from Honduras, from a church friend. Not diet friendly but yummy. We made 100 to share at church guest lunch. These were wrapped in banana leaves, and we made some the Mexican way in corn husks. Tiring but fun. The Honduras ones had chicken, potato, peas, and green olives. Who knew!
Take care all! It is so good to "hear" your voices!! Jan0 -
Hi
A rainy start to the day outside, wet & Gloomy near 60 degrees however, I was comfortable in Two t-Shirts and rain gear 7.3k steps.
Not much on my agenda beyond looking at the source VHS I captured to see if it needs to be re-captured with different settings as the image is washed out.
I just got the confirmation email that my NS order has processed. No tracking number yet, For this one they can take their time as I still have more than enough on hand and could not delay the order further.
Have a Good Day

Hi Val
I have heard that slang usage for a dime, Only on TV shows of course.
If I said I never watched Downton Abbey...........
I keep toying with Amazon Prime and then I weight the cost vs the benefits and pass on it once again.
Have a Nice Tuesday

Hi Jan
The Boston Blackie episodes I have been listening to are during the war years or shortly thereafter based on the commercials such as today's asking for people to save paper to use to package bullets for shipment. WWII that is. Same with the Episodes of The Shadow I was listening to earlier
As I understand it surgery is one cure for bone spurs, OTOH Joint degeneration I do not know.
Congratulations on breaking even with the taxes, That is the goal where they neither keep some of Your money interest free or having to come up with money to pay. The IRS can be slow paying You, do not be slow paying them or get hit with penalties.
I would not expect Tamales to be diet friendly
Did You use the Masa to make the Tamales from scratch? if So did You have access to the press? The Nice thing about making Your own is the ability to season to Your taste.
Cheers
Roger0 -
Hi Rodger,
That is so cool about the Blackie series. I like when things of the past don't get lost.
I prefer no surgery with a bit of discomfort to surgery! We will see!
We did make the tamales from scratch with the mesa. We did not need the press for them, though I have used one in the past. The banana leaves and foil helped to form them, using them to tighten and form as if you were making sushi. With foil under the leaf, each bundle is it's own little packet. We made a ring of foil for the bottom of the pan to prevent sticking, since they cook so long. My friend mixed the mesa with chicken broth instead of water, so they are more flavorful. I forgot, darn near every prep step added a bit of lard before the rolling, hence the weight gain. They were like Lay's chips. Hard to eat one! I won't have a taste for awhile! I can tell eating habits change, though. I would make a cleaner version and forgo tradition for me!
I love my fitbit so far! It does get you to walk farther just to see the change over of steps!! I have it synced with the MyPal- fairly easy since I could do it, lol! Still seeing all it has to offer. I love the sleep tracker, I definitely need more sleep! It does catch my naps, too, which I need to give up so I am not going to bed at 1am. From 11pm to 1pm was often the craziest time at work, so I just seem to get a 2nd wind then. I need to work on this!
Take care walking. It is amazing you all aren't sick from your changing weather! We had 4 inches of rain from our storms yesterday. And oh I need to cut grass! Jan0 -
Happy Tuesday! Congrats Jan on getting your taxes done and glad there is something in PT that helps. I fixed my toilet chain...it broke off the flapper...so i used a zip-tie to reattach it. At least the plastic won't rust/break from constant submersion. Yes...that is the most exciting thing happening here. During the summer my kid will go to a summer camp where one week's theme is Harry Potter and the other week's theme is Percy Jackson. She's elated. So I'll be driving from TX to Ohio to drop her off...then driving to Virginia to work at the office where my boss and a few of my colleagues work (it will be the first time i meet them in person).1

Hi Jan
Sadly my Brother is muttering about cutting the grass too, it just seems early to me.
Lard will do that to You, it will also make them so tasty however.
I would love to be able to nap in the afternoon myself, I get so tired before 10PM where before walking I was good until midnight
I Have the cheap FitBit that only tracks steps, miles and calories plus I can see the time as I cycle through the display.
Knock wood, no problems from the changing weather. Listen, Can You hear me knocking on the wood around the window?
Have a Great Day

Hi Val
I just go to the local lumber yard or plumbing supply or Home Depot/Lowes and buy a replacement flapper, They Just pop on and off of pins on the assembly.
I know what Harry Potter is but I had to look up Percy Jackson to see what that was.
It sounds as if You will be putting some miles on the car with all that driving
Have a Great Day Too

Just a quick Note, MFP has added 2 new options to a post, that would be like and Awesome
as well as
Information about positive reactions
You can click like or awesome but not both, and only one reaction per post.
To view your profile positive reactions, you can go here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/profile/notes/(add your username here)
So guess who clicked on Awesome as if it were quote, Yup me. It seems to toggle one click for like and the second click to unlike again. I clicked like so You can test it.1 -
Hi
It was down around 40 when I started out the door + 7.2K steps. By the time I got home I was feeling a little warm and had unzipped the Hoodie. No Rain in the forecast for until next Tuesday unless there is a change.
I did get a email with a tracking number that said my NS shipment had shipped, specifically it said "Good news! The ready-to-go portion of your Nutrisystem order is on its way and will soon arrive"
I am guessing that since the tracking number is not active yet that it should come tomorrow as this email is time stamped 8AM
Have a Good Wednesday

Hi Val! I actually fixed my toilet when I had to replace the rod from the chain to the flapper. I ordered from Amazon. Isn't it great when we can fix something? Sounds like a cool summer camp! What a drive!! That would be great to meet people you talk with, but wow the miles you put on!! What will you do with your dogs? It will be good to get away from your neighbors, LOL! Glad I made the tax deadline! I will be better prepared next year, I hope!1 -
Hi! Rodger!
You are very consistent! I always seem to be juggling and losing a thread!!
I am embarrassed that I must have the lowest steps recorded by fitbit! I will get better. I was tired yesterday after PT and did not reach what I had the previous day. I was surprised it seemed low, I felt I had walked more, but apparently not!
I often buy a lot of Christmas on Amazon for the grandkids, and some clothes for me. That alone pays for my Amazon with it's free shipping! Sometimes having heavy or bulky items make it worth it for me!
Glad for the PT respite one day! Driving and getting there is as tiring as the PT! Have a good Thursday!! Jan0 -
We had a hail storm last night. No damage at my house, but many in San Antonio didn't fair as well. A loose dog took refuge from the storm on my patio. I gave him dinner and a blanket, but was too tired to assess the situation so he slept outside. This morning he had gone but saw hom later wobbling in traffic (people are not careful). So, i gave him a lift home. Collar, but no tags. Old German Shepherd with cataracts and wobbly hips. After breakfast I drove him to the shelter. To my joyous surprise he is microchipped! I burst into tears and the shelter guys looked st me funny. I said with his poor condition I thought he wouldn't be. I was so relieved!0

Hi Jan
When I started walking last year I was doing good to make it around the block. It takes time to build any distance. I am still walking the same distance lately however I am doing it in fewer steps therefore I deduce that my stride has lengthened
I have also used mapmyrun.com to see how far I have walked, that is how I know I am now around the 3 mile distance.
Good Luck

Hi Val
I saw some of the hail Damage on the news that was reported yesterday, Softball size hail is no joke, The one house looked like most of the windows were blown out by the hail, the Vinyl siding had chunks blown out and who know what the roof looked like. Other buildings had hail come in through the roof.
I Would say You were extremely lucky not to have that size hail hit Your home.
What a nice thing You did for that poor dog, I suspect, sadly, that most people who saw the dog in traffic were only worried about the delay and not about the dog at all.
Good Job

Hi
I was warm enough when I started out the door, then the Sun went behind some clouds and it was chilly for most of the walk, I ended up under-dressed somewhat due to the warmth of the Sun when I started.
No Rain in the forecast until at least next week at some point, that means I need to get out and water the newly planted plants. The Blackberry bush is showing some growth as is one of the 10 Raspberry plants. Nothing on the rest of them or the Trees yet. Fingers Crossed.
Tracking shows 6:55 am On FedEx vehicle for delivery for my NS Ready To Go foods. Whee, I guess I know what I'll be doing later, checking it for shortages.
Have a Really Nice Day

Hi Val
Overall I was lucky with employers for most of my time spent working too. Sometimes I feel that a body just needs to sit and not lose or gain. That has been my plan for the last two months. Not to much left to lose and doing this seems to be working too. I am holding the same weight and slowly losing off of the waist so that is working like I had hoped it would. I may sit here maintaining for another month or two too.
Has Your activity level changed? One thing to keep in mind is that four days is not enough to worry and start making changes. We are all in this for the long haul. If it is bothering You, then I would suggest calling the NS counselors and checking to see what they say.
Good Luck

When i try to use the Like button, it throws me to a different page...and its hard to find my way back. I gained 20# from Christmas thru early April. Since re-commiting I've lost 9 of those, and then stalled. It's okay just would be nice to get back where i was do i could continue the big picture. Yes...before the Doberman incident i was wogging between 3 and 10 miles every say! My hip is still really hurting so on good days i can do one mile of walking only. Better than the first month post-attack when j was unable to walk at all (walker). Hit n sunny here (TX)...dogs are shedding up a storm!1
