    Hi All!

My last few days have been so hectic I feel I am back working, lol! If I can get to downtown Montgomery for my new lenses for my glasses and to the vet, I will be caught up due to PT delays. I attended a social security brief due to the new changes, as usual it was as clear as mud, lol, as are investment talks sometimes. Totally my fault, I am sure. Figuring always seems a pig in a poke to me- but hey, no calories :# ! Also attended my sons's graduation, which was beautiful. He received his PhD in Philosophy. He is an English professor on staff there and heads a Dept. and the Great Books Honors program, so his robes were mighty impressive!! I do not get to brag on him too often- so forgive me!!! :)

I am typing to the tune of some thunderstorms rolling thru. The hugest ones with hail and rain are skirting around me, I am just getting lightening now though we had 60 mph winds which frightened me enough to make the dogs come in, and I love storms! I turned my air off for the moment! It has been close to 90 deg. but I just could not take the humidity the last two days, it has felt sweltering and I would rather pay the air bill!! Well, Rain just hit, air will be on Sat. too, lol!

You will have to take a picture of your garden and trees in a little bit and post! I get a better reference with your steps now- you do really well! I am going to try to hit 5,000 tonite, I am almost there due to city walking from graduation. Your Boston tapes sound perfect to listen to! I can understand your brother and cooking! Some things you want to taste traditionally, but as you all gift some of yours, that is a nice way to deal with it! Some recipes do nice substitutions and taste remarkably good too. If I can learn to just control my portions consistently!! o:)

Have a good week-end and don't work too hard!! Jan

    Hi
8400 Steps + I found a nice shiny quarter during my walk. Today is a dark and dreary outside and the forecast for Sunday is for rain.

I got the Roto-tilling done yesterday while my brother dug the raised growing beds. Today looks like a planting day. The Two Rhubarb plants were delivered yesterday and their are some other plants coming today. If We get them planted today the rain overnight into Sunday should water them in nicely. After todays delivery the only plants left to be delivered will be the Sweet Potato plants. All of the Raspberry plants are leafed out as are the three Columnar Apple Trees, Two of the Apple trees are leafed out enough that they are either in bloom or showing flower buds. The Third one was slower to leaf out so who knows if it will bloom too Two kinds of a Red Apple and One Yellow Apple planted. We have a Shady spot earmarked for the Rhubarb plants that should work fine. I remember that my grandparents Rhubarb plants were in a shady spot under a Fruit tree.

    Have a Nice Saturday

    Hi Jan
Congratulations to Your Son for doing so well. You must be bursting with pride, Why no brag a little bit when things go so well :)

Changes in Social Security? As long as they do not make them retroactive I'll be OK.

We always shut down the Computers and remove the power during Thunderstorms Both of us have them on power strips. I Knew that storms could damage things going back to early days and my brother learned the hard way after a storm damaged his Monitor. For years when I was working after thunderstorms rolled through the area we could expect to have some computers in for dead or damaged modems back in the day when High speed Internet was not available as well as the occasional damaged power supply.

FWIW I tend to scale most of my foods for portion control. I find that the scale is a more accurate method than measuring them by volume. Most foods have nutrition information. Fruits seem to be the exception. Not a big surprise as there can be a large variation in size as with Bananas and Clementines for example.

I could take some pictures, maybe after breakfast :)

    Have a Great Weekend

    Hi
I woke up early and decided to try and beat the rain that is in the forecast, It had started to drizzle by the time I reached the Quick Chek for my coffee so obviously I did not beat the rain. I put up the umbrella on the way back out the door and ended up with 7900 steps and somewhat tired from being up early :)

We got another shipment of plants yesterday and put them in the ground right away so that they could be well watered in by todays rain. One Fig Tree and on Reisling Pixie Grape and supposed to ship in May are the Sweet Potatoes. The grape is supposed to stay small and

Grow miniature clusters of wine grapes in as little as 12 weeks! These dwarf grape vines mature into compact, 18- to 24-inch tall plants with an 8- to 12-inch spread. Pixie® Grapes are natural dwarf grapes — not genetically modified or genetically engineered. Whether you choose to grow these dwarf grapes outdoors or in containers indoors, a simple trellis helps to keep them upright under the weight of fruit clusters. These grape varieties are ideal for juices and wines, but can be eaten fresh for a quick, convenient snack. They also make a great gift for do-it-yourself wine connoisseurs! Hi
8900 steps while walking today, I also stopped at the produce store for a couple of Pears and Three Larger Mushrooms for my my Brother. It is slightly cooler than yesterday so I added a flannel jacket, Unbuttoned. I did carry the folding umbrella in my pocket just in case. It is dreary looking out and foggy in parts of NJ. There is a fine mist in the air that collected on my jacket. The Local bank time & Temperature display showed 7:39 and 46 degrees, The Time was off too :)

Only Two more Boston Blackie episodes to listen too, so tomorrow I will have to decide what to switch to mid walk.

    Have a Nice Monday

    Hi
So far no walk today and I am not sure if I will get out for a couple of reasons. It is raining outside and the second reason is I'm tired. I was up and down all night. I have requested my brother not to tempt me by asking if I would like Chinese if he goes for any and not to even mention it until he is back thus removing temptation :) It makes me retain water for several days.

I had planned to go to the banks on my walk today too. Now I will have to see how the morning is going and take into consideration what the weather forecasts show to decide if I want to make coffee or go later if the rain departs. The first one I looked at today shows rain this morning and tomorrow as well as rain every other day for the next week.

Temperatures are showing warmer than yesterday, yesterday it was in the 40s when I went out the door, today in the 50s already.

Have a Great Tuesday, Stay Dry

    Hi!
It is raining here, too. We have had storms every afternoon, and it is quite wet now. Today is the last rainy day, then we will have some dryer air and sunshine! I worked in the yard about 4 hours yesterday and got a few things moved and planted. I will take some pictures, then learn to send them, attach them or whatever, lol!

I love your picture of the dwarf grapes! I guess I never realized they had them. That is a beautiful plant! Just how big is your garden? It sounds huge! No wonder you are tired! You all have been doing a lot of planting! At least the rain cuts down on watering and saves money! We used to have Rhubarb when I was little, planted at my Grandparents home. When we were stationed in Germany (twice) I could see that my grandparents had set up their garden from the old country. It was pretty great.

It might be good to rest a little. It will change up your body's routine and that is always helpful (in short duration!) :)

Sorry to hear you did not sleep well! Hard to function properly that way. I am not good at resisting Chinese food. Our Chinese people keep disappearing. I guess it may be an immigration problem- they just do not show up one day. Usually the restaurant seem to be doing well, though some rents can be outrageous, so I am not sure that they are skipping out due to money. I just do not know- it is puzzling! Would love to investigate that population flow down here.

Sun for 2 minutes, then gone and back to dripping rain. Nice cool mornings in the 50's and 60's with 80's for a high. It will be muggy for sure later! Take care and do not over do!

Jan P.S. The soc. sec changes were for first time filers- you are safe ( for now!) LOL!

    Hi Jan
I ended up walking today, just a later than usual start. I was leaving the house at the time I am usually home from the walk at this time of day. The rain had stopped when I looked out the window at 9AM as I was finishing breakfast so I geared up and left. I did take a umbrella hung on my backpack just in case it started raining again as I do not trust NJ weather :) It did start to drizzle as I was on the inbound leg between my two bank stops, Not enough to make it worth unfurling the umbrella however.

When You go to post the pictures if You resize them to 640 by 480 they will fit the screen better FWIW. I use the Paint program that comes with windows to do that BTW.
Here is a screenshot showing the resize dialog in Paint. If You click the crop icon in that same screenshot You can crop the image first.

If You look to the right of the icon that looks like two links in a chain as shown here that is where to click to post the image.
    3ez7Kv.jpg

I find that Italian & Chinese are both hard to resist.
Most of the Chinese & the Pizza places around here stay in business. I think that they are high enough profit margin to make it work for them IMO. The One Chinese Takeout that disappeared was in a strip mall by me and they were not the only business to close when the lease ran out. My understanding is that the rents would go too high to make it worth staying if they renewed. On my last job we moved from one mall to another for the same reason, the Landlord wanted to nearly double the rent. After it was a done deal with a signed lease in the new mall, suddenly they were ready to bargain, Too Late!

I ended up walking as I had to go to the post office and two banks and burn off some of that Chinese food I indulged in :)

Later this year I will be getting out earlier and earlier to beat the heat. If I get out after the sun comes up in the summer I can feel the heat from it when it is shining on me. I hate Muggy weather, I can handle heat if the humidity is down however, better the last two years than prior to losing the weight. Another benefit from losing weight. Almost time for my Mid-morning snack, with the walking and working on maintenance I am still eating 6 or 7 times a day, not big portions of course. For example my morning breakfast might be a Banana before I walk, then 100 to 120 calories of cereal with 50 calories of 1% milk from the dollar store, Long shelf life until I open it. The Ones I have on the shelf right now are good to March 2017 :) and a NS Protein shake.
My Mid-Morning snack today will be 120 calories of Quaker Reduced Sugar Oatmeal, the 2+ hours later Lunch.
Lunch will be a Light & Fit Greek Yogurt, a NS Broccoli with cheese melt, an Apple and 170 grams of frozen vegetables.

    Have a Good Day

When you think of felony forgery your thoughts might turn to Al Capone or Bonnie and Clyde shooting it out with the Texas Rangers.

Not for some local school cops. For one day, public enemy number one when it came to forgery was 13-year-old eighth grader Danesiah Neal at Fort Bend Independent School District's Christa McAuliffe Middle School.

Now 14, Daneisha was hoping to eat that day's lunch of chicken tenders with her classmates using a $2 bill given to her by her grandmother when she was stopped by the long arm of the law.

"I went to the lunch line and they said my $2 bill was fake," Danesiah told Ted Oberg Investigates. "They gave it to the police. Then they sent me to the police office. A police officer said I could be in big trouble."

Not just big trouble. Third-degree felony trouble.

    Hi
Update: I got out walking +8100 steps shortly after I posted above since the rain had stopped.
I picked up a couple of Gala Apples and a Green Pear and four Bananas at the local Grocery store. I learned something too, I have been wasting money there. I noticed that the person in front of got a 10% Senior Citizen Discount, So I asked and got one too. That falls into the category of Who Knew :) I never expected a Grocery Store to be doing that.

    Oh Well

Not raining however in the 40s with a mist in the air, Generally a dreary looking day outside while walking + 6800 steps today. I walked to the Post Office to mail off a bill on the outward bound leg of my walk.

Nothing planned beyond doing laundry today, Whee, what a thrilling day I'll be having :)

    Hi!

Don't knock non thrilling days! I hope to have one! I am averaging some 4,300 steps, but am all over the place. I had 6500 yesterday from the yard and running (car), but if PT kicks my butt, may have a 3,000. :)

My yard is looking good- the house, not so much, LOL! Working on that today! I have my Dr appt on the 20th. Ha, I thought I was done with my PT till re-evaluation. I was trying to schedule my last 2 PT's for that week. Oh no, "we" have scheduled Pt 3x a week till then, except for vacation week. I may not get there as things pile up trying to accomplish everything before going. It is the poor dogs suffering, then popped into kennel for the week. I am a crazy person!! :o

It is amazing who gives discounts! It never hurts to ask! That is something!
Thanks for the crazy news links, which are unbelievable! Especially about the lunch money! Also thank you for the instructions on posting. that should help! That and finding time, hopefully!! Too crazy a week! What did you decide to listen to walking?

Beautiful, sunny, cool, and very windy here, sustained wind in the teens and gusts to 30. Humidity way down for now. Hard to believe this is Alabama! May last another 4-5 days! Yay!!

Have a great Friday, and keep up the good work!! Jan B)

    Hi Jan
I have found that if You do not ask You do not get :)
For example Both Quick Chek & 7-Eleven have lower cost for coffee refills vs full price. My 7-Eleven is only $1.34 including the 9 cents sales tax for a refill up to 35 ounces and higher for over 32 ounces. The Quick Chek is more restrictive it can not be a reuse of their foam cup but must be a washable cup, and it is $1.49 including the 7% sales tax.
Dunkin Donuts OTOH if I show my AARP card I can get a free donut such as a Glazed, Cruller or Glazed Chocolate. BTW that tells You the mark up (Profit Margin) on the Donut & Coffee that they must still be making money that way.

I was listening to Old time Boston Blackie Radio Shows from the 40s. I am in the process of converting some Boston Blackie Movies and TV shows to MP3 format to see if they work that way. I have hopes as they were a lot less dependent on special effects in the 40s and 50s.
If they do not work then I will start listening to Bulldog Drummond radio Shows. You can find 20 here to download or stream if You want to sample them.
    https://archive.org/details/Bulldog_Drummond
199 episodes of Boston Blackie Are here:

Some yard work to do here too that is getting delayed by the daily rains lately.

Nice that You are having good weather.

    Hi
So now it isn't our fault? From here:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2016/05/04/obesity-could-be-contagious-like-superbug-cdiff-suggest-scientis/
Obesity could be contagious like superbug C.diff, suggest scientists
Obesity could be a contagious condition which spreads in the same way as bugs like C.diff, scientists have suggested.

A huge study of bacteria in the human gut has found that one third of species produce spores which survive in the open air and can potentially move between people.

Scientists now believe that many diseases and conditions, are triggered or exacerbated by changes in gut bacteria.

A decade ago, Washington University discovered that adding gut microbes from obese mice to thin mice caused huge gains in weight, a finding which has been replicated many times.

    Hi
7300 steps + 20 cents walking but not singing in the rain. It was actually not to bad out, so far the rain is light and steady with a mild breeze. I did gear up for it however with a rain jacket and pants and a Sun visor to keep the jackets hood up from covering much of my face when I tied the drawstrings on it. Without the Sun Visor it pulls down to eye level and blocks a fair amount of view to to sides. Not the safest way to walk across side streets.

Hopefully tomorrows weather will be better in the morning.

    Hi
I go Misted on while walking 7500 steps. When I left the house everything was wet so I took a folding umbrella along just in case, 1/2 way through the walk things were starting to dry out slightly so if course it started misting and making things wet again :)

It was around 50 degrees out with a forecast high in the low 60s for later on.

Around here at least It has not been to bad walking, even yesterday when I got out early I was lucky that it was not too bad. Later in the day not to long after I got home the rain picked up and it got breezy. The Power went off for less than a minute. So of course I had to reset the clock on the Microwave and wait for the Satellite TV DVRs and Cable box to initialize. Most of the clocks are battery powered or have a battery backup fortunately.

    Have Great Saturday

    Hi
It is raining outside, once again :(
Right after I wrote that I looked outside and the rain had stopped so I geared up with my Backpack & the Umbrella strapped to it. I got on block and it started drizzling, then another block and I stopped under a woody leafy lightning rod AKA Tree and put up the umbrella. By the time I got to the Dunkin Donuts for my Coffee and was ready to leave it had stopped so I strapped on the Umbrella and did not need it again on the walk. I stopped at the Supermarket for Bananas, Apples and a Orange. That will hold me for a couple of days when I will stop again for more fruit as I have decided that this spring & summer I will buy less more often so as to not have things go to ripe before using them. I checked and the 10% Senior discount is on Wednesdays so that will be my shop heavier day :)

I ended up with 8800 steps.

Now that I am home from my walk I think I may be lazy myself. I plan to go re-capture a VHS Family tape, I was not happy with the way it came out, much to bright and washed out looking. I could adjust that in the encoding to DVD and BluRay, however I would lose Dynamic range that way so I can recapture it and adjust the settings in the capture device to capture it darker to start with. IMO that will give better results. That will just be a simple start it capturing and do something/nothing else.

    Happy Mothers Day

7500 steps so far + 2 cents. There is this big brightly glowing thing in the sky that is throwing a lot of heat out there :)
It has been absent when walking for a while too. The Plan for the day is to Mow the grass later and then maybe go to Lowes, depends on my mood and how I feel after mowing.

    Hi
    I was walking once again + 6700 steps :)
Yesterday ended up different from what I had in mind, No Mowing, Lowes, Dragged out Rototiller and tilled more ground instead. Mowing probably starting in the next hour after I have the rest of my Breakfast, So far only the Banana before walking. Cloudy outside today and so far a comfortable temperature with a forecast high in the upper 60s.

    Have a Great Tuesday

    Hi!

Writing from sunny beautiful Savannah Georgia ! We had a great road trip coming here. Our first evening we walked on the riverfront, had a great supper with fresh seafood, and finished with some coffee poolside on the roof of our hotel to relax. We had it to ourselves! Averaging 6,000 or more steps so far! I have 4700 now and it is not noon.

Yes, sometimes it is hard to remember what the sun looks like! All your yard work will sure burn those calories! Glad you are moving again.

We are off to the Dolphin Tour up the river and out to sea. The big ships are fascinating! Don't work too hard and have a great day!!

    Hi
8400 steps so far so things could be worse. The weather is warmer than yesterday, by the time I was headed on the inbound leg towards the Grocery Store I was down to a Pocket T-Shirt and could feel the Sun on me.

Since today is Wednesday, 10% Senior Discount Day, I stopped at the Grocery Store for a box of Cereal and some Fuji Apples and Black Plums. If I could have thought of anything else I needed I would have grabbed it then as the 10% off is on Wednesdays only, Oh well.

    Have a Great Wednesday

    Hi
I walked again, Summer weather is upon us, I wore a Pocket T-Shirt, and did not bother with gloves and it was fine while walking. Tomorrow I think I'll hit the 7-Eleven for my coffee, Bank for spending Money :) and the Grocery Store for Bananas. I can not think of anything else I need at the moment. Maybe CostCo on Monday.

    Have a Great Thursday

Jan-congrats to you snd your son for his PhD. That's awesome.
Roger- love the grapes and all your walking.
I've been turning to food for comfort and out of frustration with my loss of being able to go walking. Hip still hurts. Work has been too busy. But glad to be employed. I've has two nights of heavenly sleep...with my new weighted blanket. They are helpful for autistic people and those with anxiety or PTSD. I've not felt this level of relief in eons. Netflix had kept me company gor years...but haven't even turned it on since my blanket arrived. Such a simple thing with such a huge positive impact! Hugs, val

    Hi
    Friday the 13th, Whee!
    Anybody with Triskaidekaphobia?
Anybody remember a Movie called "Saturday the 14th"?

The weather outside was in the high 50s when I left the house, No sunshine today, There is rain in the forecast for later. We planted some Tomatoes, Peppers and a second Fig tree Wednesday and a Oregano & Sage plant along with some Basil Seeds Yesterday, I did water them however today's rain will hopefully water them in more thoroughly.

Yesterday we had a high of 80 and the living room got warm enough that I turned on the Wall AC to cool it down :)

Enjoy the End of the Work Week and have a Great Friday

    Hi Val
I hope that weighted blanket works for frustration too.

I have never heard of them until You mentioned it, how is it weighted and does it keep warmth trapped too? or is it lightweight as far as warmth?

If not to expensive it might pay to try as some nights my mind keeps churning making sleep hard to arrive at. Putting plenty of blankets on is not working in the summer either.

Did You consider talking to the doctor to see if surgery or hip replacement would help with the pain from that fall.

My brother dragged home some of the first Cherries I have seen this year, I was afraid they would not be ripe, they do not look ripe, However they taste great. I have been having some as my SC with one of my meals.

I have not been using my Netflix either and am considering dropping it. I still have the one DVD plan and they have now sent me two different DVDs despite my Que being empty :)

    Cheers

How funny that Netfix keeps sending DVDs. Weighted blankets in Amazon are ~$250, but Sensory Goods charges $150. Google a coupon code for 20% off. If you go under "sale" there's a good discount for letting them choose the color. My first is fleece so it's a bit warm, but not overheating. My next will be cotton. Some compatuse metal for the weights, this place offers plastic or glass, and recommends glass...so I got glass. Blanket us calling

    Hi
I did some walking + 1 cent, Mailed off a payment, Went to the Bank for money, Staples for My brothers ink cartridges, Walmart for a second belt, CostCo for Frozen Bulk vegetables and all three types of Paper Goods, and The Acme Grocery Store for some frozen that is on sale to use for Dinner. I am now home and at 10,700 Steps so far and it isn't even Noon :)

The Weather is heating up outside, the Living Room is up to 74 degrees already.

    Have a Great Weekend

    Hi Val
At 1:49Am I guess it was calling You :) Are the weights around the edge or distributed throughout the blanket?

IMO even $150 sounds expensive, but then I'm frugal.

    Have a Good Saturday

    Hi
I was feeling a bit chilly whenever the breeze blew and fine the rest of the time, That makes it hard to dress for comfort :) 7,200 steps FWIW.

So far it is a sunny Sunday outside with a few clouds in the sky.

It was 48 in a nearby town on the Local Cable News Station when I checked it before I went walking.

    Have a Great Sunday

Hi Val I am considering dropping NS TBH. Why pay if I'm not using it and I could always rejoin of I need something :)

    Have a Good Sunday

I agree that $150 is expensive, but prescription medication adds up to that quickly. I'm still loving my blanket...and I've been sick, so I've been spending more time with it!
