Had a very hard day today as far as pain, but I managed 1859 steps. . Not as good as I had hoped for, but I am realizing that I am not as super human as I would like to think I am and when I over do it, I am not healing faster, I am slowing myself down. I will try to behave.

I am becoming more active but other than some stretching each morn I still only walk a 1/4 mile daily but I do it even if it is midnight and 13F degrees unless there is ice or serious lighting. At 64 with total body arthritis damage if it causes serious pain I do not do it. I for sure do not use exercise to lose weight because I do not want to get fat ever again. I use diet for weight control and use exercise to build muscle strength be it the legs or heart. On MFP I read about the harm people do to health and weight from trying to do exercise like running, etc. Be careful out there if you are over 25.

Well, Grannie passed away on Saturday, and I have been at my parents' house for the funeral and helping clean out her house since then. I finally made it back home yesterday evening. Needless to say, I did not get my 10k steps in or do any running in the last week.

My ankle feels like it has healed up, so it's back to the grind today...

So far, I've only had 7 days this month where I have actually hit my 10k steps. Definitely a slide backward from my usual activity level, but life gets in the way sometimes.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your Grannie. You and your family are in my prayers. As for the 10,000 steps, you are right, life gets in the way sometimes. Hugs to you

Did 1 hr strength class on Friday and followed up with 70 mins walk same day.

Avg daily step count for August is 11 295 steps, according to Samsung S Health. Naturally I don't carry the phone all the time, so step count is higher.

I'm very happy that I finished this challenge, since I failed the July one :p

All my life I've been a very impulsive creature, so for ME, gradually building habits seem to work better. Not too ambitious = No excuses!

I met all of my August fitness goals! I walked 10,000 steps at least 5X's per week, I went to the gym at least 2X's per week, I lifted weights at least 2X's per week. Yea! Great challenge!

I don't think you are living up to your name @Couchpotato39 ;)

I didn't meet my goal of averaging 6000 steps a day for the whole month which was doubling my previous average, but I did get to just under 5300 and definitely made progress toward creating a habit of going for a walk, which is a huge victory for me. I need to keep at it and I will.
Here's how my progress looks in the graph. tk2wjik9o3ie.jpg

I have increased activity consistently and that's really important to me.

So for the month I made goal 15 days out of 31
The only weight I lost was what I had put on through the month. The extra walking seemed to cause me extra hunger hence extra pounds.
I intend to keep up my steps but hope to curb any carb crashes I might lean toward furthermore.

I too met or exceeded my Active August challenge goals. I walked at least 1/2 hour each day even if I had to walk around my living room before bed for a couple of nights and added some light strength training mid month with my doctor's permission.

    Great job everyone!

I know Active August is over, but I'll update my latest episode in Shed Building now. Had a great workout today, I swung a hammer until I could barely move my arm. And I was picking things up, like heavy 4 x 4 wood posts. I worked out for 10 hours. I'm sore now, no delayed onset muscle soreness for me... :)

I got the sides, back and roof installed today. My friend Joe helped me. I was on the roof nailing my heart out. My knees hurt.

And there's nothing like stepping on a small loose piece of wood that throws you to the ground! I didn't sprain anything, but I'm sure I'll be extra sore tomorrow over that. Next I have to hang the doors, trim it out and paint it.

All-in-all, I did about 10 hours of useful, purposeful work, and exercise to boot!

    I hope this helps,
