    hi ho hatters!!

been a crazy busy week but a good one; except for the scale.. the 2 xmas parties packed on a pound.. and one tomorrow and then thurs but then that's IT.. done as i'll be on shift over xmas .. I have been really good eating wise in between.. but ... calories are calories .. however i will get rid of that sucker and hit my goal again for years end... !!

i haven't had many bad bosses at work over the last 30 yrs.. a few here and there and both sexes.. but my mantra is i can outlast you.. and i have HAHAHA. but it does put a damper on even wanting to go into work when you know what's waiting on ya... and that adds stress wondering whats in store for u today... so i feel for ya milove!! its also hard to maintain that professionalism and not let your feelings get in the way... I've been sucked ina few times to reacting to something and later on thot why oh why didn't i just remove myself from the situation... i wish i had some words of wisdom to offer.. but your situation just plain sucks. so all i can send is a hug and to reiterate if it helps to just vent ... nowhere better than here where you know it's "safe" and we're all on your side!!

Suzy - i TOTALLY feel for you.. not just for the $$ this time of year, but for the fridge! Mine crapped out last year in November or December.. it was a huge snowstorm i remember.. and they brot the new one; i waited 24 hrs with everything in coolers then bought tons of stuff and re stocked the freezer and fridge.. woke up the next morning with the fridge not working and all the food ruined.. $200 worth of stuff... AND the store telling me to call the manufactuer and them telling me to call the store.. yada yada.. and that it would be a WEEK before they could deliver another.. 472 phone calls later blah blah.. and in th end went after the store for the ruined food.. they refused at first but this time i wasn't backing down... im normally the kind who will let something go but i was so mad at the terrible customer service thru it all i thot no way.. not this time. and they ended up cutting me a check for the food too.. but the inconvenience was HUGE.. so i hope by the time i'm writing this your fridge is working and you are a happy camper... i guess maybe better it happened now then next week, right before Christmas? or on xmas day?? gulp... my friend got a brand new stove and 2 weeks in.. on Crhistmas day.. she put the turkey in and it was dead... the stove that is (well the turkey was too.. but.. ya know.... ) haaaaaaaaa

as far as the funk stuff.... I think a lot of us have some funk moments around the holidays.. we're all supposed to be in the Christmas spirit and happy and cheerful cause of the time of year.. but in truth.. its often a time lots of less than good feelings come on a lot of us.. sometimes cause we aren't with family or friends, or are just stressed with everything that has to get done.., or we're missing people.... .. or it just happens that other areas of our lives suck at this particular time... yet we're still supposed to be all happy all the time... so I think it's kinda normal for many to go thru a bit of a funk this time of year.. and sometimes not even know WHY we're in one...

I think the trick is tho... to maybe allow yourself a day or two or maybe even three to just let it ride and be what it is... and let yourself not wanna be happy right now thank u very much.. and owe no explanation to anyone... BUT... put a time frame on it... because it can be too easy to stay in that mode once you're there!! But pick an amount of time that works and give yourself permission to let the funk run free.. and when that time is up, put it away.. seriously away. start thinking about the good things in your life, what you're grateful for etc.. but ALSO ... really think about what YOU bring to the table to the people in your life.. as mother, sister, daughter, friend..... whatever capacity look at the people in your life, and what you do for THEM.. all the things you do that are the reason your friends and family love ya.. and appreciate you.. if you start realizing what good people you are.. it will help brighten your mood too...and ya might just find you're feeling better every day!!

Hugs to all... desperately in need of a coffee and jammie time!!! Will post more tomorrow as I took the day off to meet some old friends for lunch!! Best gift of all to give/receive is making time to get together with those who matter!!

Oh ok, I was up at 3 am and wanted to add this emoji and could not figure it out. I can probably save the emoji as a picture and then upload it. Ah a lot of work.

Very wise words, Snoozie. I have mixed feelings about this time of year, and will take your advice on board.

I still want to know what your friend did with her turkey when the oven broke, though! Keep thinking of her trying to cram it in the microwave - ha ha! How annoying! One year I left a chicken out to defrost overnight for Christmas dinner - came down in the morning to a the remains of a carcass, and a very stuffed cat (not one I'd ever met before) sitting on the work surface.

lol... her mom lives in the next suburb over and had been coming to her place for dinner, so she just packed up the turkey and her hubby and all the fixin's and went to her moms to cook it there :)
but she was NOT a happy camper LOL

Vailara, I just laughed out loud and made my husband give me the stink eye! A cat you'd never met ate your chicken!!! Hahaha! We rented a house in Amsterdam for two years and there was a cat door to the patio. I was sitting on the couch when a strange cat just walked right in, looked around and then walked back out. Haha! I'm glad I didn't have a chicken defrosting! Thanks for the laugh!

Yes, it was kind of funny! It was certainly Christmas for that cat! Although I'm sure it didn't do much good, the poor thing could hardly move. And I never saw it again afterwards! We just had vegetables for Christmas dinner that year!

Good afternoon Hatters...wow- so much activity since I last signed on! Sorry to hear about the stresses of bad bosses and broken appliances and lol about cats eating turkeys :)

While still not fully recovered from the world's longest virus, I am doing somewhat better, so I did manage to enjoy Bob's Christmas office party last Saturday and, on Monday, a Holiday luncheon with a ladies group to which I belong. I overindulged at the party, but chose wisely a few days later at the luncheon with a chicken salad with fruit. Thing is, since I had been cooped up for a few weeks, and I am not a homebody, I felt the need to go out, including for meals, and it has been a learning experience to see the difference between when I eat at home consistently and when I eat out. Snooozie, I related to you so much with an experience I had last night. I wanted to go to Olive Garden for dinner for some reason, just had a craving for pasta I guess. I haven't been there in ages, and when I have eaten there I think I alwaus just got soup and salad. But this time I ordered this shrimp and spinach ravioli dish in some kind of garlic sauce. Sounds yummy, right? And the photo of it on the menu made me drool...but, two problems : 1. For some reason, they took forever and a day to bring my main dish (waiter said my meal "disappeared" and they had to remake it" , so I ended up eating a bread stick and two helpings of salad and a cocktail before they finally served my food. Side note- the cocktail I ordered looked and sounded yummy in the photo and description on the menu, but was NOTHING like that, so I did send it back and ordered a sangria, even though I was risking the bartender spitting in my new drink :s OK, so this should have forewarned me about the meal which leads to problem number 2. The spinach ravioli was awful but I ATE IT ANYWAY! YUCK!!! And I know better than to eat a meal with a garlic type sauce. So I ended up feeling nauseated later that night and don't feel great today. No nothing appeals to me, which is maybe a good thing to help me get back on track. And of course these last few days undid my previous loss. But I will say, on the bright side, that I was really happy and excited to see that I actually can lose weight again eating consistently at my calorie goal with reasonably healthy food at home. I plateaued for a year, so had lost hope, hence the regain of a little over half of my original loss. But now I have renewed hope-yay! Now I just have to figure out a way to motivate myself to be more of a homebody lol.

    (((Hugs))) ~Susan

Oh, what a shame that you ended up eating something unpleasant that made you feel bad! I hate when that happens. What a waste of calories - lol! But great to know that you can lose the weight. I'm glad your a little bit better. I hope you're on top form for Christmas!

Thanks Vail. I'm hoping to be in top form for Christmas, too. And Yeah, that whole meal was a disaster- don't think I'll be going back to Olive Garden anytime soon lol.

TGIF! Welcome to the weekend! In the spirit of giving myself a better me this Christmas, I plan on staying on course during the weekend ( I usually slack off on weekends).

Hope all is well with everyone and wishing all Hatters a fabulous Friday

Seehe, I never imagined you would still be sick! I am so glad you are feeling better.
I am not a big fan of olive garden. I find it looks much better on TV than it does in real time….. usually arrives dried out……but I love the salad and breadsticks…
Hahaha….I usually worry about sending something back for that very reason… maybe I’ve seen to many movies with that situation in it… so I usually make a mental note not to go back there …no time soon…
Still fighting those 3 lbs to get to sticker weight. I plan on resetting to correct ticker weight if I need to come first of the year. I may have better luck while we are off 12 days for the holidays!! I can miss more meals at home, it’s too readily available at work.
I will miss my bootcamp style exercising though…I find I am enjoying it… It’s not a brutal as you see on TV…but It gets us sweating it out… makes my “fat cry” as Snoozie said lol

I loved the cat stories , Vail & Suzy. I can just picture the contented lok on it's face after finishing.....He was very glad you left it out for him... and Suzy....yours may be my favorite! I can just see him coming in, looking around..." Nope, not my pad!" and leaving...lol

I hope everyone has a Happy Holiday & a Merry Christmas!!
    I Believe !

Gail- I think those last few pounds are always the most stubborn indeed! But maybe those 12 days off will do the trick, and, if not, I believe that scale will definitely cooperate before too long. I didn't realize your boot camp was at work. That is really nice and convenient.
As far as Olive Garden, what is it about those TV Ads and menu photos that make the food look so good , only to disappoint once delivered to your table? I swear that ravioli pasta tasted like a combination of rubber and cardboard! The same thing happened to me when my son took me to Applebee's several months ago. The pork chop dinner looked so delicious in the photo but was absolutely disgusting. My son Alex had warned me, however, that the food was not like the photos. Maybe I should eat a few more meals at places like that and then I'll be thrilled to only eat at home lol.

    Morning hatters!

I am celebrating the end of 7 dayshifts by still being in bed in my jammies with coffee in hand and laptop.. on lap LOL.. its only 630am so I don't feel guilty tho! Promised myself the reward of a few chapters in bed before starting the next round of clean up and prep -they are coming in Monday to start the drywall repair and painting from the flood and the place is a disaster from me throwing crap everywhere to get it out of the way of the water.. and pretty much just left it there thru dayshift ha.... anyway..

the round of Christmas feedings is over for me... and I hav to admit i'm kina grateful right now.. i'm sure in a week i'll be thinking wah i wanna party.. but right now i feel like a beached whale .. and the scale agrees!! I am not going to reset my ticker however, as my goal for years end still remains the same - to get into the new set of numbers. I made it there but the round of xmas lunches/feedings have taken their toll.. but i wanna be able to check in at my goal so i'll leave it where it is; i don't want to count the pounds i have to lose AGAIN now as a new loss. but i'm bound and determined to still get to my goal by the 31st.. gonna be a bit harder now but i will get there!

Susan - your post about the yuck factor... its so true, eh? honestly... why is it in our brains we think omg that looks fab.. and order it or put it on our plate.. and when it's not.. we STILL eat it?? getting past the "lunchbag letdown is bad enuf... but to finish it off ... omg... i did the same again with something.. can't remember now its all a blur; some kind of dip thing.. it was icky... but I had some tortilla chips ..and it was on my plate.. so... sigh..

I think i'm gonna make a new rule now for myself.. if I take a bite and it aint FABULOUS.. buh bye.... well that will be easy now that all the xmas feedings are over LOL..

K.. gotta have a quick refreshers to posts for a few replies, then gonna snuggle for a nother few minutes with my book and a toasted cucumber sandwich for breakfast!

Gail - how awesome is it that you are gonna miss your bootcamp????? You have come so far and made so much progress in your journey this year my friend.... so many changes you've made .. you are truly an inspiration!

Susan - i'm glad you were well enuf to hit bob's work party, but I know neither of you are 100 perecent recovered yet... hope it isn't long before you feel all over good again! love the better you pic above too!

Vail - I choked with laughter at the cat and turkey story.... my bassett hound once ate an entire cookie sheet of shortbread cookies... how she managed to reach them up on the counter is still a mystery to us all!!

Suzy - hope the fridge is up and working again!! you lived in amsterdamn for 2 yrs?? wow... im jealous.. how cool was that??

Milove - congrats on the loss; hope things are improving at work and that you will be able to enjoy some down time over the holidays!

have a few days off so will be checking in to see how we're all doing.. hard to believe Christmas is only a week away, and only 2 weeks to 2017... !!!!!

    Morning Hatters!

How fast is this month flying away?? Holy cow.. seems every time I blink another week has gone by; and it's not because I've been crazy busy it just seems time is flying these days..

Spent the weekend burning some calories - took down all the vertical blinds in my living room (they are long suckersand there are about 50 of em) and washing them 6 at a time in th bathtub.. washed all the big windows while they were down prior to the painting sched for this week; then did all the baseboards and scrubbed some floors yada yada.. but at least I burned off a few since I haven't been walking lately; its been bitching cold here and I hear some of the States are getting some terrible cold snaps too so hope everyone there is keeping warm (or in Susan's case.. cool lol).

I am really struggling with getting back to smaller portions this week.. all that chowing down at the xmas get togethers totally messed with the portion control i was just getting down pat...i actually can't believe how much i ate during those feed fests, specialy cause i was doing pretty good with the smaller amounts... but last night for dinner i once again didn't think and automatically filled a dinner plate then sat down with it and thought what the hell.. ? so today my one thing to do for myself will be to work on eating less.. re train my tummy again to smaller amounts. I find the water much harder to push in the winter i must say.. but i did ok yesterday. Still plan to make my goal of a new set of numbers by the 31st!!

I gained a wee bit but not resetting my ticker - still want my next check in to be when I hit my goal!

Have a great week Hatters.. imagine its gonna be insanely busy for many of you so if you need to vent, scream, rant, rave or better yet, brag about good things you're doing to take care of yourself?? Come on in, put your feet up and share! :)

I've been exactly the same with the portions! I've relaxed far too much, and I notice my portions creeping up again - not every meal, but every now and then, just too much. I had also more or less given up sweet stuff, and now that seems to be sneaking it's way back in! I need to nip it in the bud before a little indulgence becomes a twenty pound weight gain!

Thank you for the post about taking care of yourself. I'm not sure what to do today, so I think I'll just make sure I get an early night and clear my mind before bed. I'm struggling a bit with sleep at the moment (back to the old hot flushes/flashes during the night, sometimes combined with their old friend, Worry). Then when the alarm goes off I feel like I'm already worn out for the day! So trying to improve sleep is going to be the thing I do for myself.

Vail - I've been sleeping like crap lately too.. waking up feeling physically exhausted, not sleepy. I know I haven't slept well cause the sheets and blankets and pillows are on the floor so I've obviously tossed and turned most of the night.. i'm having a few (very few thankfully) hot flashes again too.. so I feel for you with the waking up already worn out! I confess I've had a nap almost every afternoon the past 3 days.. not a long one maybe 45 min.. and i'm still sleepy enough for bed by 11 but I guess i'm not resting well so I figure if I need the sleep, the nap will do lol. That will only work during these days off of course... lol but it works for me for the moment anyway... and yes same here with the sweets.. I almost gave in and bought a timbit today... and debated about a pkg of shortbread cookies.. but I passed on those mainly because the "best before" date showed Jan 31st.. I dunno... I don't think cookies are supposed to last 6 weeks..specially if there are only 3 ingreds like shortbread is supposed to have. so it kinda scared me off them LOL. As long as I don't have them in the house i'm ok.. but if they are here.. i'd be toast. hang in there!

I'm sorry you're going through something similar with sleep, Snoozie. It certainly makes like more difficult. My sleeve of care is having to stay ravelled at the moment. Good idea to fit in a nap if you can.

I had to google timbits, and of course, now I've seen one, I want one! Well done on resisting! Shortbread does keep quite a while in a sealed container - but you're probably right that if it's a long best before date, then it has extra ingredients. I love shortbread, but not worth it if it's not made with butter! And it's always good to have a reason to refuse things like that. Why work at resisting temptation when you can avoid it altogether by not having the stuff in the house?
  • Snooozie
    Snooozie Posts: 3,470 Member
lol @ the timbits Vail.. sorry never thought - yes its the middle hole of the donut they cut out ! it's a staple here in Canada.. and in my head having 2 timbits is better than having a donut.. course that doesn't work so well when you buy a box of 10 to share at work.. but they sit on the seat in the car beside you.. then you can't take them cause there's only 5 left.. ahem.. moving on...

as far as avoiding temptation by not having it in the house? yep.. that works.. cept I HAVE BEEN KNOWN in the past to go out at 3am to a local 24hr market for.... broccoli.. ya that's it.. broccoli..

    o:)

I think your sleeve of care just staying ravelled... is a lot tougher than it sounds.... but very glad to hear you are going to focus on you for a bit!! Hugs
