It sounds like we have a theme going...I'm up a few pounds as well. Seehe, I have a terrible problem with nighttime snacking. I do okay during the day when I stay busy but at night I feel like I should be able to just veg out and read or watch tv. Gail, what is it with the pop tarts?! I hadn't bought any for years and recently bought some for my husband's backpacking breakfast. He ate two...I managed to eat the rest of the box for my night snacking fix. Ugh!!

I also tend to weigh every morning but haven't been recording my couple pounds up then down on MFP. Bless my husband's pointy little head....he told me (in a very perplexed and shocked manner) that he weighed himself before bed and then first thing in the morning and he lost two pounds overnight!!! "How is that possible?" Hahaha! Men!

I don't think I'm going to achieve my end of year goal. Our plans have changed and we're now leaving this Saturday for a two week road trip from Atlanta to Kansas City to Dallas and San Antonio! I have never been able to take a trip and not gain weight. I'm going to take a page from Snoozie's book and really pay attention to my portion sizes and just try try try to make good choices....and no alcohol!!! It's going to be a real challenge.

Have a lovely road trip, Suzy! Yes, I can see that that will get in the way of your goal, but hope you can relax and enjoy it!

Changing body shapes are a pain. I used to have a 23" waist in my 20s. Well, I don't think that's coming back, no matter how much weight I lose. I just seem to have more to fit in around the middle for some reason now - lol! I do still have a non-flat posterior, but it's eclipsed by the big wobbly cushions of fat on my hips. I don't even want to think about my thighs. And even with the weight loss, it's not all springing back into place the way it did even only four years ago. I feel like I'm deflating rather than shrinking!

where we would be without a sense of humour in our journeys, eh ??

Suzy - two week road trip!!!! Wowsaaaaaaaaaa holy cow that's awesome I confess I might be a little jealous! And think you have absolutely the right idea - just try to make some good choices and a hairy eyeball on the portion sizes and I have no doubt you'll be ok.. I don't think I would skip the alcohol totally myself lol... seeing as its a road trip ... but.. maybe a compromise with yourself to indulge only on day of the week that start with ..a T .. or an S....?

Ha!! hope you have a fabulous time and look forward to some pics if possible along the way!

Vail - i near choked on my coffee at your wobbly cushions... i don't think any of us are ever likely to see our 20 yr old bodies again; but doesn't mean we can't have an awesome level of health and fitness in the ones we have now right??

oh and yessss on the snacking... i think that may be one reason i am a little leery of retiring.. i do better eating wise when i'm distracted by work than when i am home and bored... and roaming the cupboard :#

Me either Suzy!!, It's been ages, but I just bought 2 boxes a week ago for my son's girlfriend's 4 year old .... She's had one out of the box( 'cause I can't let her have too much sugar 'cause it's bad for her, right!?!? ) .....I've eaten the rest this week " : / .....why can't we use our own logic on ourselves!!!
I'm with Snoozie on the trip...Enjoy the heck out of that trip, and especially have a drink....if wanted! It's a trip!! Enjoy!! Pick it back up when you get home...it's what we do!! lol Life's too short not to enjoy it.

Vail, I have never had wobbly cushions but my son just got a pair...out of nowhere...it looks as if he had implants put in . He always had a shovel butt before.... you have to think hard on that one, right? When he would sit on my lap it was as if the hip bones, butt bones whatever you call those things, were digging into me...so I would tell him to get that shovel off me!! lol

Snoozie, I never met a potato I didn't like ....and it is soooo not good for me being diabetically challenged....Starch!! A few more and the bag is empty. I only bought them to fix a salad for work party.

Snoozie, I think you probably are past this point of the weather, but I am loving the cooler temps in the morning along with changing colors of the leaves on the Bradford pear trees.

actually Gail we've had an unusually warm fall.. temps still in the 50-70 range and lots of sunshine... but according to the weatherman that's going to change next weekend :/ I don't mind cooler temps I just don't want full on winter til we have to LOL

time to get off my ever widening *kitten* and start moving LOL.. might subject myself to a bit more shopping today - like it wasn't punishment enough yesterday but need a few tops for the cooler weather.. hard to judge tho as I still seem to be living in t shirts or bundled into blankies one minute to the next... argh lol

I think I've figured out that the shopping is just an avoidance from the chores I gota do around here .. hmmm.. lol lesser of two evils?

I was reading the new Jason Fung book today, and loved this quote on what to eat:

The basics of good nutrition can be summarized in these simple rules.
    Eat whole, unprocessed foods.
    Avoid sugar.
    Avoid refined grains.
Eat a diet high in natural fats.
    Balance feeding with fasting.

(Fung, Jason; Moore, Jimmy. The Complete Guide to Fasting: Heal Your Body Through Intermittent, Alternate-Day, and Extended (Kindle Locations 876-880). Victory Belt Publishing. Kindle Edition.)

This is more or less how I try to eat now (with some blips every now and then, because cake and wine exist), although I've leaned towards low-carb, but it's nice to see it as simple rules. Obviously low-carb fits well with those rules too, if I want to continue. I know fasting isn't for everybody, of course, but the other rules are fairly straightforward.

I'm really enjoying the book. There's a bit of an overlap in information with his previous book, The Obesity Code, but I suppose this one is more of a how-to, "diet" book.

Anyway, clothes shopping - I don't know about the rest of you, but bras are the difficult one for me. I've changed shape in that department too, and weight loss or gain always shows there. I've been a total of, I think, thirteen different bra sizes over the years. And that's counting "sister sizes" as one - it's even more if I count all the band sizes separately. It has cost me a fortune! And I only buy good quality ones. I've just gone down a cup size and had to get yet another new sports bra.

Potatoes are on my banned list, I'm afraid (although looking at the rules above, maybe I should bring them back!). I like them, but always with some fat - mashed with butter, baked with butter and cheddar, chipped and deep fried, roasted in duck fat, sauted in butter or olive oil, etc. Oh and plenty of salt too.

lmao Suzy.. omg ain't it the truth.... altho in my case it should read "during" drinking, not after LOL!

Vail - other than the fasting, the basic guide to nutrition you indicated pretty much jives with the majority of lifestyle eating habits most recommended I think? Sorta ties in to what that nutritionist told me years ago.. eat like your grandparents did.. everything from scratch and with sugar being almost non existent during the war, they simply went without. That and if it doesn't come in the form it was made in (i.e. potatoes ok - potato chips.. not!) then pass it by.. sigh.... I swear we could all write a book with all we know... but I have yet to find something or someone other than myself who can make me stick with it!!

He does kinda take all the complications out of it too, eh - when DID eating become so complicated anyway? :'(

I may have to start channeling my grandma - maybe that'll work... LOL

    Hey ladies

Life has been crazy ... love the hat rack Snoozie and the hat Susan....

Boss is still being a "insert negative comment" here >:)>:)

My scale is also being a lier...ugh... gotta get back to 185ish... I had gotten down to 175 but definitely was not a good look... looked more like a skeleton...currently about 190ish... went to the doc the other day and of course they gave me a paper about eating...

The number on the scale is only one part of the puzzle... I can do a mile in 15-16 minutes... actually did 1/2 mile last night in 7 minutes :D

I gave up Zumba (new hours for work, definitely saves on traffic)... but now dancing in the basement and also doing some strength training / calisthenics. I also walk with my neighbor a couple of nights a week, and if one can't make it then we definitely go by ourselves... :) saves having to pack a gym bag...

I'm still in my size 14 pant / slim cut :):):) and size L / XL tops

We've cleaned out the basement - 20 years of my favorite fireman's crap.. is now in the attic or trash... he can go in the attic, not this cutie....

And my mother's old clothes that definitely smelt like a thrift store (went to the trash) ... going to give some of her old items to our church for their thrift store... definitely what she would want... haven't touched them in over 5-10 years...

    Talk to you later

Yes, Snoozie, it's the fasting that helps with sticking with it, but without that the advice isn't so good. I just found it useful at the moment because I think I've been overcomplicating things - nothing is ever going to stop me looking for a magic answer! But on top of what he says, I also think I need some portion control, well, unless I want to fast more than I'm doing at the moment, and I'm not sure if I'm even going to stick with fasting. The big thing for me is eating natural fats. I've always felt miserable when I've done a low fat diet.

You are doing fantastically with the exercise, Carol! So true about the number on the scale. I think for a lot of us, the lower end of a "healthy" BMI feels too thin - I know it does for me. Well done on clearing things out, too. That is one of my least favourite things to do, but it's good when it's done.

I am loving the Boot Camp type of circuit training that I am doing here after work!! Of course I can't do everything like the smaller people can, but I will get there eventually. and I actually have sweat falling off my face! I hardly ever sweat at all...So that has got to count for something. lol

I am still on track to lose that weight by end of year, It doesn't look like it, by the scale, but I am still aiming for it.
I kinda' overdid it last night....everything I had on hand to cook was a carb, and I was so hungry from a light lunch at work that I ate like there was no tomorrow....... Hopefully today will be different.

Carol, good to hear from you! I am glad you have found a good weight that fits you, you will get back there!

Vailara, I do the Intermittent fasting most days until lunch...sometimes till dinner. Depends on how busy I can keep myself. But I don't have it in me to try a 24 fast...especially back to back. I am impressed with you!

Snoozie, I saw you got in a good long walk this morning, Kudos, my friend!! I may hit the gym bike for a quick 15 minute HIIT session. I read that just a small amount of bursts of intense exercise can help your BG all day. I need that.....It was 145 this morning...all those dinner carbs....ugh!

Hello Seehe, Suzy, Milove, am I missing anyone? I hope you all are doing great things for yourselves...that goes for all my girls!!
    Later!!

Wow, just checked the board and saw all this great activity and humor- love it! I've only been quiet because I seem to have come down with a stomach virus. Rather pathetic, but I couldn't help thinking to myself "well at least it will help me lose weight". Geez Louise. Going to take it easy today and just focus on getting rehydrated.

    Morning Hatters!

Just had a quick read and before I start some of the replies.... I just gotta say..

    Gail??

I read the first line of your post and I swear I got chills.... you wrote:

I am loving the Boot Camp type of circuit training that I am doing here after work!!

I think of all of us this year Gail - you have come the furthest in progress this year.. and I just LOVED that line you wrote.. it made my day and I just want to say congratulations and I hope you take a minute to look back and realize not only how far you have come in making changes all over, but also realize how fabulous it is that you are LOVING the sweating from the boot camp... true kudos!! :)

Vail - I hear ya believe me... and honestly right now I think along with the focus on smaller amounts and waiting til i'm hungry, i'm just going to try to simplify things instead of spending so much time thinking about what i'm goin to eat will just ask myself if its a healthy choice.. I think I need a little breathing room from all the thought process lol..

Susan - sorry to hear you've got a bug.. that sucks... I did laugh at the losing weight comment cause I would do exactly the same thing in my head!! But do hope you feel better soon!

Carol - nice to see you! Sorry things are still stressful at work; good job on the cleaning out it's always a difficult thing and and good on knowing what weight is right for you!

I went in for an oil change yesterday and ended up with new brakes, new tires, new wipers and a hefty bill lol.. but it's ok it needed it all and now I feel safe about driving thru the winter on the shifts :) however I had 6 hours to kill and had them drop me at a mall; I should have turned on my runkeeper cause I walked for MILES.. it wouldn't have been so bad if I liked shopping lol. but at least I burned a few extra cals!!

Back to work today; got a lovely walk in at the lake as gail mentioned; today and tomorrow are gorgeous then winter is supposed to hit saturday.... yuck. but i'll take what i can get now lol. .did a wee shop today for some good healhty meals and made sure they were convenient ones; and I best get to prepping some before hitting the road. I do like evening shift as I have time for my walks and to prep good meals, and im not as likely to snack in the evenings ...

I am bound and determined to get to my mini goal of a new set of numbers before the end of the year ... i'm working evenings over Christmas so at least most of the goodies people bring in will be gone before we even get in lol.... I guess that's a "plus" ?? :'(

Thank you, Suzanne, for your kind ,praising words. I was thinking about that a few days ago in class....It wasn't that long ago that I wouldn't go to the gym at work.....and here I am sweating , jumping, floor exercises.....it is amazing! Mind you I have to ad lib a lot of the moves to fit me....but like our coach said..."keep on" and it won't be long before I can do it correctly.

im so glad gail you were able to realize just how far you've come as well.. sometimes a little reflection on the positive changes we've made goes a long way to drowning out all the criticisms we tend to focus on and load on ourselves for what we haven't done... and you have done so amazingly great in making so many positive changes!

in fact I think that would be a great idea for the next few days .. I know it's the weekend so some may not be around; that's ok we can carry it forward into next week too.... but i'm thinking its time we started praising ourselves for the GOOD stuff we've done!! Like in that movie from the 80's.. legally blonde thing? Where they give props to each other with finger snaps?? So... in no particular order and will continue as random thoughts come to me while thinking of all of you!

    luiv8mifb647.jpg

Vail :) - i'm so impressed with the fact you arm yourself with knowledge - i'm a firm believer that knowledge is power, and you have read a lot of nutrition books and learned so much and been kind enough to share the info with us as well! And you have opened yourself up to new ideas - that's something I personally find inspiring as I tend to still forget that its important as we age to open ourselves to new ideas about everything. so props to you my friend! :)

Susan :) - you have had a difficult year with illness and bob's surgery and some personal challenges, but you refuse to give up; you find a way to deal with whatever is going on then get back on track with looking after yourself... you are someone else too who has strived to educate herself on nutrition and health related info as well; and you always have such a positive attitude it inspires me. Your awesome results on overcoming the T2 diagnosis has also inspired me not to stop trying to do the same... so props to you Susan!!

Suzy :) every time I climb a flight of stairs I think of you and the hugely challenging hikes you undertake.. and when you consider all you went through with your knee surgery as well and the fact you just couldn't WAIt to recover and get back to the hiking... truly inspiring! And you are open to new ideas as well; the whole 30 month challenge you gave yourself was awesome - and you make me laugh (as you all do).. so props to you Suzy!

Gail :) I think the biggest prop for you is the fact that when I look back to when we first started together, the differences you have made in your life.. you know one of my other fav expressions is lots of little steps lead to big results... well from chicken tenders to sweet tea to taking the stairs and cycling and now boot camp... truly, you are the epitome really of what it takes to get what we want for ourselves.. being able to realize that we CAN change and then doing it step by step... you are also open to new things (i'm seeing a trend here amongst us ladies!! yay us!) and learning new ideas like low carb and the IF and checking your blood sugars ... huge changes and such an inspiration to me as well.. so props to you Gail!

carol :) you have also had some challenges with work and health, but you haven't given up and you've gotten to a point where you realize what YOU are comfortable with for yourself - and I think that's a huge accomplishment. We too often are told we have to be a certain weight or do certain things and I think it's far more important we figure out what's right for us.. so props to you!

and I'm gving myself props lol... for recognizing I had forgotten for a while why I came here, and realizing I needed to take the classes and re focus on the health aspect of the T2 and aging, rather than the weight loss. And for having come a long way in understanding my emotional eating and making progress in not diving into a bag of chips for comfort as often as I used to :)
AND for surrounding myself with strong, positive, supportive women who inspire me!!

And now.. i'm off to the lake to probably say farwell for a few months... today is going to be gorgeous sunny and around 70 degrees! and then whammo with winter tomorrow LOL.. so I will grab a coffee and stroll and enjoy and appreciate every moment there today!! Have a super weekend everyone!

Wow Snoozie, thank you so much for the thoughtfulness and taking the time to give everyone such detailed and kind props. So glad you included props to yourself as well . I know personally I needed the boost in spirits, so again, many thanks! <3

I couldn't agree with Snooozie"s props more. Each and everyone one of us has taken on this journey with strength and courage and even a sense of humor. Sooooooo

I hate to stray a bit from all the lovely props, but I'm afraid this last week has been a challenging one indeed, with a never ending revolving door of really awful symptoms that would come and go - really strange. Latest symptom is this awful itchy rash all over my legs , ankles, arms and hands. Went to see my doc yesterday and never would have guessed. I got over a sinus virus about three weeks ago, and my doc told me that this is my immune system being over zealous and out of whack post virus. Crazy, eh? Said it ( the rash , which is constant, and maybe even the other awful symptoms that come and go) can possibly last another few weeks- argh! But at least I got an answer and I'm not contagious.
Thanks for listening and being my outlet~ Susan

oh Susan.. I totally feel for you!!! (BUT glad to know you aren't losing your mind LOL)

MY little senior friend came down with an all over body itch.. head to toe... made her completely miserable couldn't sleep from itching all over... no rash tho.. at all!! long story short.. it had gone on for a few months and nobody was doing anything for her.. doctor was like oh use calomine (didn't do squat); I called her kidney specialist to ask if maybe something drug wise..blah blah.. but on the poor thing went itching.. and at night her back would itch so bad and she couldn't reach it.. honestly it was making her life miserable and I couldn't get anyone to DO anything!! In desperation I finally went onto the internet... and discovered theres a ton of people that happened to; a lot said drinking a lot of water was the only thing that brot them any relief.. and it was the only thing I could think of that wouldn't interact with any meds and wouldn't hurt if she tried it.. so she did.. and it was a struggle cause she only drinks tea LOL.. anyway after about 5 months now it seems to have settled a bit and she can sleep and not be driven insane by the itching all over.. so reading about your rash and the accompanying itch honestly made me feel so bad for you!!! Isnt it somewhat miraculous our body can know when to fight off some stuff, but holy cow it going into overdrive... yeesh! sincerely hope you get some relief from the itch (calomine lotion maybe?? lol) and feel better soon!

Thank you Snoozie for your very kind and much needed words! I love that we all inspire/commiserate with/rely on/support each other. I really appreciate having somewhere to vent and to get words of encouragement!

Itching is the worst! I'm the type that will scratch a mosquito bite until it bleeds! You should have seen me when I had chicken pox at age 11! No...on second thought...it's good that you didn't! Lol! I hope it all clears up really really fast Seehe!

We're off on day 1 of our 16 day trip! I'm channeling Snoozie and limiting my portions. We stopped at Subway for lunch and I only ate 3/4 of my sandwich. I'm finding that I eat way too fast. So one of my strategies these two weeks will be to slow down so that I can "hear" my hunger signals.

I'll check in when I can. My goal is to just not gain any weight...it's madness to think I could show a loss!

You find the BEST pictures Snooozie !!! Your poor friend- that's awful :( that happened to me once but it turned out to be a less common but true side effect from some meds I had started taking, so that was an easy solution for me to just stop taking the meds.i feel for your friend whose situation was and is more challenging.

Like your friend, this rash keeps me up at night, and is gross and annoying, but so far my immune system seems to have settled on producing this rash instead of the other various intermittent attacks of severe nausea, stiff neck, incredible joint pain, incredibly severe headache, montezuma's revenge and low grade temperature it had tried previously engaged. None of those others have popped back up in the last 24 hours, and I'm crossing my fingers that the rash is the last of this whole immune system attack and will go away sooner than the two weeks my doc suspected. I am going to pick up some Calomine lotion today and see if it helps. Sure hope so. It is so weird to realize what an over zealous immune system can do!!!

Thank you from me too, Snoozie! It's so nice of you to think of all of us and encourage us.

That sounds awful, Susan. Good news that it's not contagious, bad news that it could go on for a while! How very frustrating. I hope it goes soon, and takes the other symptoms with it.

Have a lovely trip, Suzy! Yes, maybe a loss would be too much to aim for - after all, you want to be able to relax and enjoy it as well! Have a wonderful time :).

Vail - I channeled YOU while standing.. unclothed.. on the scale this morning... and yes while that may sound just a little creepy, its only because the scale finally showed a wee loss.... but my chosen weekly check in day is tomorrow!! I immediately thought of you and your challenge group and you having the same problem on their chosen weigh day LOL.. I ADMIT I came very close to hitting my check in button... even though it's only a small loss I was like nope I aint waiting lol. But .. I will wait..

however.. that scale better say the same thing then if it knows whats good for it :#

Suzy.. a 16 day hike.. lord love a duck woman... I am so impressed!! hope you take lots of pics and awesome idea on simply aiming for portion control while you're gone.. its funny you mention only eating part of the sandwich, that's one trick I use when I get a sub; I usually only get the small 6" one.. but I always ask them to cut it in 1/2 before wrapping it up.. sometimes they give me a funny look... but I don't care.. and that way I can spread it out, eat 1/2 then the other half an hour or 2 later .. have a fab time !!!!!!!!!

Seehe.. omg I started reading the list of the god awful other things you had to deal with before the rash... soooo I have to agree with you; i'd take it as well over the other stuff.... ackkkkkkk! hope you continue to improve every day..

gotta get some chores done around the pit here bfore heading in.. hope everyone is getting to spend some down time today with friends, family or their favourite indulgence!!

Oh, Seehe, sorry you have been through all that. I hope you are feeling better now. Those symptoms sound like something people get here sometimes.. West Nile Virus....but it is passed through mosquito bites and I don't think you have those over there.

Snoozie, I am glad you are seeing some scale movement in the right direction ! Fingers crossed both hands : ) for more on weigh in day!! xx xx

Suzy!! 16 days of hiking....wow!! I don't even know what to say...I hope you enjoy yourself. I feel sure you will.

Vail, I could be so much farther along if I could stick to portion sizes. You are doing awesome !

I need to reboot myself come first of the year...I see myself coasting through the end of the year...trying to hold what I got if I can' t lose any, but I haven't given up..... sometimes I do better at home. Food not being readily available like at work.

Hope everyone has a fabulous Thaksgiving.. Snoozie, I think you already have.

Well true to form the scales have turned on me LOL... they are still showing a TINY loss.. like 4oz.. hey I lost a quarter pounder.. with cheese! giggle snort... but my just over a pound is gonzo :#

I did pig out last night on a platter of veggies and spinach dip someone brot into work... went easy on the spinach dip but ate a LOT of raw veggies - full rainbow spectrum of colors lol.. and have been short on veggies later so I figured what the hell ... o:)

so i'll wait til next Monday for a check in.. maybe by then I can lose a big mac :D

Other than the veggies I have been making progress in the portion thing.. hardest part is actually REMEMBERING not to eat a full sandwich.. or when i'm packing my lunch making smaller amounts.. last night I had brot stew so I brought a bigger bowl of it and just spooned out some every couple of hours and nuked it - rather than trying to pack 4 smaller portions easier to bring the whole bowl and eat smaller whenever hungry. hardest part is packing ENOUGH smaller things like cheese and crackers or yogourt with bran buds etc... lotta work but so far so good..
today I will cut my tuna sandwiches in 4.. like when we were kids?? if I bring 2 for my 10 hours shift I can eat a quarter every hour with the side of raw veggies and the yogurt inbetween. My lunchbag once again looks like Jethro Bodines.

Gail - we still have 6 whole weeks left in this year - I know you have thanksgiving and xmas coming thru it, but maybe if you plan to stay on track with yur awesome moving the parts and fab blood sugar #'s most of the time, you can enjoy those holiday moments/meals/treats as just "off days" and you won't need a reboot, you'll just be sliding already in the mode you are in right into the new year?

happy turkey day btw to all of you... yup ours is done... and never did get my turkey so you can bet even tho i'm working evening shift again all thru Christmas, i'll WILL make myself a damn turkey for xmas LOL...

    HAVE A GREAT WEEK EVERYONE!

A loss is a loss! Congratulations on the quarterpounder! Sounds like you are really putting a lot of thought and care into the portion sizes. Funny how we are going in opposite directions with frequency, though - you are eating smaller amounts more often, and I'm eating possibly slightly bigger amounts less often! There's more than one way to skin a cat, as they say, and I think it's important to find out what works individually. I still have mixed feelings about the fasting. I'm sold on it for health reasons, I think, but I DO feel hungry the minute I start eating. I can't decide whether the answer is to do more or less of it!

No Thanksgiving here (best wishes to all who are celebrating it!), but my city is full of Christmassy market stalls at the moment, selling all sorts of foody goodies. Yes, I will try a free sample of liqueur please, thank you very much! And all the street food stalls, it's so tempting to just give in and enjoy a bratwurst with mulled wine or whatever. I'm sure I'll cave before Christmas, but I'm trying to stay strong!

I've had a gain this week, so failing miserably at my challenge. I don't know how people cope with weekly weighing! Somehow daily weighing seems to spread it out all out a bit and make it less emotional!

I'm flattered that y'all think I could do a 16 day hike but it's not a hiking vacay. We're driving from Atlanta to Kansas City to Dallas to San Antonio to Mississippi then home to Atlanta. I'm going to try to find time to take some walks and we may get to do a couple day hikes. So far not so good on eating but I'm determined to nip it in the bud.

A loss IS a loss so don't discount your efforts by saying it wasn't much! A pat on the back can be good exercise!!! Work those biceps and triceps!!

We're going to the Truman Presidential Library tomorrow and I'm hoping to get in a brisk walk before it rains. Have a great day everyone!

Suzy - I must have had a menopause mental moment earlier; I knew it was a road trip rather than a hiking one so I have no idea why I lost my mind for a minute there and thot hiking.. I wasn't drinking so that can't be it so must be menopausal mental midget moment!! LOL..

I imagine you're going to manage getting those walks in here and there, cause a car road trip will require stretching out your legs now and then, yes? I find these days 3-4 hours is the most I can sit in a car without stopping (even if only for a pee or coffee!) and getting out an stretching. I do hope you get the opportunity for a day hike or 2 - have you been to any of these places you're going before or is this a first?

I am a library freak btw.. I recently saw one of those articles on 7 amazing libraries around the world you have to see... an i'm thinking I must just try to get to a couple! hope you enjoy your visit to one today !

Vail - I did laugh at your post... yes it is kinda funny how our individual methods are sort of paralleling each other in the end! and yes totally agree on having to find what works for each of us is the right thing....and also the tough part! Im going to be very interested to see if there's a difference in my A1C in February after working on the "volume" of food theory; especially because I "get" the idea, the more food in me the harder my pancreas has to work on the insulin release etc so the more spiking if I pig out .. (and its the spiking that causes the organ damage) anyway.. i'm hoping a side benefit will also be me learning to eat smaller amounts permanently - so when I get to my goal weight again I won't flunk maintenance a second time LOL!!

But.. its a little frustrating even a few years later to realize that for me, CICO doesn't seem to work anymore either... I lost my initial 60lbs on straight CICO over the 2 years when I first came here, so realizing that didn't work for me this time around forced me to open my eyes a bit to the fact that everyone IS a snowflake LOL.. we ARE individual and whatever works for each of us is what's important!!

so I totally get why you have mixed feelings now and then about the fasting... and it's only important that if you are comfortable with it, rock on girl! And if it becomes at some point no longer viable, you can decide to change it up if necessary. I think that's the one thing I've learned most the past year is that there truly isn't one single way to lose weight or get healthy that's "right"... not at our age most especially.. whatever gets us to what we want for ourselves IS right!!

I am going to have a "lazy" lunch for work today; picking up a salad and a chicken boob on the way in....an btw how those of you who are parents did the figuring out of school lunches and then dinner every day?? I take off my hat to you!!
