Halloween was extremely scary! I was doing so well and then BAM!!! I ate over 1,000 calories in candy! Ugh!!! No self control whatsoever. I'm sending all our leftover candy to work with my husband. I blame him. He brought home a mini gourmet chocolate fudge pie. Once I had a bite of that it was all over for me. I'll have to workout extra tomorrow and maybe even fast a couple days this week! How am I going to handle the holidays if I can't even get through one evening of handing out candy?!?!!!0
-
I was very hungry last night too! I didn't have candy in the house, had a bowl of fruit instead. Only had one knock at the door, and by the time I'd caught the cat to shut him away, and got the bowl of fruit, they'd gone. Never mind - I think they would have considered fruit a trick rather than treat! But yes, I overate too - not on candy, but cheese. Maybe I should stop having it in the house!0

Morning hatters!
Well I managed to avoid the hallowe'en candy nightmare simply because i'm in a condo, so the candy station is set up in the lobby, far far away LOL. so I didn't have to buy any which is frankly the only thing that saved me! I did chow down on a couple of cookies and abig glass of milk tho! and enjoyed every bite! So don't sweat the candy moments ladies.. just the 20% right??
Did anyone see that article in the MFP blog about long term weight loss success ... it was kinda interesting for me anyway... and good timing as it reminds us its ok to incorporate treats now and then!! I'll post the link at the bottom if I can find it... short but good read imo.
Yesterday was technically my weigh in day but since I was on midnights I waited til this morning.. no change at all right down to the ounce.. grrr!! I would have thought my scale was broken it being the exact same except I hopped on it a few times here and there and the numbers had moved LOL. Anyway, for the rest of this week I will be continuing to focus on eater smaller amounts and will have to look at moving more... I really need to find some form of physical activity I like..... the walking doesn't count for exercise so perhaps that will be my goal this week to search out ... I've been thinking of maybe aqua fit at the rec centre but winter is coming... I dunno how easy it would be to talk myself out of going out in 20ft of snow to go swimming HA.
Still keeping "commitment and vigiliance" at the forefront of my mind and now that the dreaded nights are over, getting some more veg in will also be a priorty; just cant face broccoli at 3am when all I want is a peanut butter and jam sandwich LOL.
Seehe: good to see ya girl! OMG how frustrating on the post.. been there done that so ifeel for ya!!
ok hatters.. onwards and upwards.. 8 weeks left of this year!
heres the link.. why you need more than just willpower to lose weight.
and in the article is another link to how to avoid overeating.. tips.. worth a look too I think

8 weeks ... and I've signed up to a thread to lose a stone (14 pounds) by Christmas. Well, that's not going to happen. But I was reading a while ago about setting goals and how it seems to actually be helpful to set goals that are too drastic. I know this is at odds with what the article says, and certainly at odds with what I've always thought (set small, achievable goals), but it was based on some evidence. So now I'm confused and don't know whether to aim high or low, or somewhere in between. So I've aimed higher than I think I actually can achieve, to give me something to aspire to. I'm two pounds down, so twelve pounds to go in seven weeks - I KNOW I won't get there, but the great thing is that I won't feel bad when I fail, whereas I would have done if the goal had been "achievable" - lol!
How frustrating about the scale, Snoozie! But sometimes I feel there is work going on "behind the scenes" that doesn't register right away. Maybe next weigh-in will be different. My weight tends to fluctuate, so I try not to put too much store in one measurement.
I DO count walking as exercise, but I don't eat to make up for the calories burned - I don't think it burns much calories at all, but it's good for health. I'm with you about swimming in the winter - not appealing! What about just doing some videos to start off? I sometimes use Fitness Blender https://www.fitnessblender.com/videos because you can search for videos by time, difficulty, equipment, etc. (And when I haven't been in the mood, I admit I have searched for videos which are five minutes or less, and yes, there are quite a few!).
I know I keep saying it, but I really admire you for being able to cope with shifts. When I did it, I felt it had a HUGE impact on my eating, sleeping, stress, etc.1 -
actually vail I totally get the overshoot on the goal so you don't feel like you've failed if you set one that's more likely achievable - and its still a win if you lose anything so sounds like a plan for sure! whatever gets us where we wanna be right? I swear sometimes its the mind games we suffer thru that are harder to deal than the physical aspect of losing weight! and yep im anticipating the woosh factor kicking in as long as I stik with the commitment and vigilance...
and if those darn bran buds would kick things into gear.. ahem... right moving on... oops was that my out loud voice?? sorry.. move along.. nothing to see here folks.. ..
I fully admit the shifts at this stage of the game.. after 30 years.. im totally past my 'best by" date for midnites lol... but at the same time i'm grateful I only have to work a few a year now as I take my vacation on as many as I can and this was the first one I had to work in 7 months ... I prefer taking them off thru the spring and summer of course.. rather work em in the winter.. But its definitely impacted my health over the years and i'm paying the price now ... but retirement is not too far down the road so i'll suck it up.. til I start whining at the next one of course...
yes I could easily search for a video ... i'm VERY good at searching for them actually.. it's the DOING I have a problem with... argggh! I think perhaps I might have to look into a class - weigh the option of feeling inadequate around the other people vs having others around making me follow thru and finish it. at home it's too easy to not follow thru..
I will go down to the lake shortly and walk and think ...1 -
I think my hunger and fullness meter is completely shattered!
Shift work would be disastrous to my eating habits! Good for you for maintaining while sending your body into a confusing mix up of days/nights/sleep schedule/stress! I think that's a victory! I also agree with Vailara that our bodies take a few days or so to reflect what we've been up to when we step on the dreaded scale. I count intentional walking as exercise, too. I don't eat back the calories either. I do agree that you need some other type of exercise as well. The videos are a great suggestion!
Seehe, I have to occasionally update my MFP app from the App Store when it starts freezing and acting funny. Good to see you back though!!!
I missed my Barre class this morning so I'm going to go walk three miles and then go do my machine circuit at the Y. Maybe I'll throw in some core and balance just for the heck of it! I've got that unrealistic goal for the end of the year.
Have a great day Hatters!2 -
kudos suzy on your 3 mile walk... i'll join you.. leaving in 15!! I may stop by the rec centre again on my way home and pick up a schedule of drop in classes.. you and vail have inspired me. although I may need a nap more today
the walking for me has been put as a tick in the diabetes column rather than exercise; I put it there in the hopes of forcing me to accept I don't actually DO any exercise... I think i'm still struggling with that obviously tho!
hey I meant to ask if you went to that class thing on the pounds make up? you were thinking about going last Friday?0 -

Headed for bed.....not a crumb of red velvet passed my lips.....but I did eat a 1/2 cup of yogurt....It has a bit of sugar......but I am still proud of resisting the temptation of the Red Velvet cake. ....the note scribbled in black marker on the plastic cover helped!

I had to go back and look, Diary said 4 grams of sugar, so then I had to google how much sugar that really is ....did you know :
google says .... how much exactly is a gram of sugar? One teaspoon of granulated sugar equals 4 grams of sugar. To put it another way, 16 grams of sugar in a product is equal to about 4 teaspoons of granulated sugar.
I never knew.....
So hold off on my DID it for the sugar...But I may get there by end of week. I thinkI have to wean myself off of it again....hence the yogurt and then the dill pickle slices....unless I am Prrrreegnant! teeeheeehee.....
edited for a laugh

T2 - huge congrats on passing up the RV - knew you would do it!!
as for the sugar - we use metric measurements here, so the first thing I learned in my class 4 years ago was that 1 tsp = 4 grams (grams are easier for me to work with lol) They told us to aim for 2g or under per serving of processed stuff (i.e, salad dressings - the kraft balsamic is one of my fav's and fits in)
that's also how I learned to go for regular sour cream instead of low fat - they take out the fat and put sugar into most "low fat" stuff, so a tbsp. of regular sour cream is a better choice than the LF .. go figure!
but.. that said..... the whole grams of sugar was what messed me up the first time when I was learning about the diabetes... nobody told me (or I dozed off) about the carbs being the real culprit.. the last class I was in the dietician was like " I don't care about the tsp of sugar you put in your coffee... its sitting down to a huge bowl of pasta and bread" (carbs and portion thing).
Funny that you mention sugar tho... I went to buy some Splenda brown sugar - there's a "mug apple crisp from skinnytaste I've made, just slice up an apple, put in the bottom of a bowl and top with 1 tsp brown sugar mixed with 1 tbsp. of steel cut oats and a few nuts of choice... nuke for 1 min and you get a warm gooey lovely little dessert... anywayyyyyyyyyyy the bag of Splenda was $9.99 .. I was like holy cow... so I saw a bag of regular brown sugar below.. at $1.79 for a big bag. I checked the sugar level and of course, 1 tsp of regular brown sugar is 4 grams ... (I knew white sugar but had forgotten they said all sugar.. natural, raw, brown, white.. its all the same number wise) so I thought what the hell am I doing?? spending $9 on an artificial sweeter... when i'm only using 1 tsp so I bought the regular stuff and will use it instead of the AS. I know sugar is bad for us of course, but the reality for me is that I am still using some, so i'll save the $8 thanks! lol..
i'll be gone this morning; taking my senior for a doc apt but will check in this aft to see how our I DID IT moments are going - not sure what i'm going to aim for in that regard yet but i'll get off the I WILL do it step before end of day!1 -
I walked twice yesterday!!! So....I did it! Today I had to take my car in for some work and am hoping to get it back early enough to go to a class at the Y. If not then I'm still going but I'll do my machine circuit instead....and I'm planning to walk twice. My goal is to get my 10,000 steps a day...EVERY day. I'd love to get 12,000 a day and I'm working up to that. I also stayed on track after my disastrous Halloween candy binge!2
-
Awesome , Suzy!
I agree with you on the sugar...real stuff when needed , just not needed very often...as opposed to artificial man made products the body doesn't know what to do with but store somewhere until it figures it out....just luck , I have a dumb body....: )0 -
