I find myself falling back into old habits of non-healthy eating and little planned exercise. A couple of days has turned into a couple of weeks. It's time to get a grip on things and not go back to the old me. It's actually time to get on the scale. I've avoided it for quite a while now.0
-
It's July! Yay! I love this month. Ok, it's my birthday month (but my birthday helps me very through winter). Plus, it looks like I will be able to start fencing again soon because my old club is adding more classes. The original options clashed with my Jui Jitsu when I moved clubs!0
-
Happy birthday month to you, @CaptainBoing! And it's a bright idea to have bright colors. @2020pinktogo Let's all go bright this month!0
-
I still have my bright clothes and 3 or 4 days out of the week I have my brights on then I'm like UGH security check where's my blacks and blues just to get me out of the house. I know it's just stress it's just in the past I would eat my way through it and now it's finding that new coping mechanism. LOL Well I'm off to work til later, sue1
-
Tis the 4th of july and I am so tired it's time for me to soak and hope there is some magic in the bubbles to relieve the pain I'm feeling. LOL Have a great night everyone I'm going to bed early.0
-
Well, since it's too late to wish you all a happy fourth, let me wish you a happy fifth of July. i had too much to eat today, and tomorrow is my mom's birthday (83rd) so I expect I won't be focusing on healthy eating then either. Family will get together, and that means food. I think it will be one more week before I can return to my mfp self. right now, I seem to have no willpower in front of others.0
-
Ok I ran some errands today and then kept laying down and napping. I feel a lot better I guess I needed the rest.0
-
I have less than 8 weeks of concussion recovery to go, but my friend won't let me go back to Jui Jitsu properly if I can't get through warmup fitness without getting dizzy. Last night I pushed to improve on that and with the exceptions of the sprawls (I did squats) I did it all! I even mostly kept pace with the class. The biggest challenge is the moves when I move up and down as my brain really objects to that, but I'm getting there.0
-
@CaptainBoing slow and steady literally the other day I freaked out my coworker as i came up fast and my eyes started dilating and I got dizzy and I reached for him and said help me sit down and he was like WTH. Yesterday I was literally down for the day. All I did was bend down and get up too fast. Just listen to your body when my injury happened had I taken the time and let it heal I would be in a better place today. At the time newly divorced single mom I pushed on and today I suffer the consequences.0
-
Don't worry, I'm not pushing too hard! My friends are also making sure that I am doing things the right way. I am more 4 months into recovery and there is major improvement so I feel like I can push a little bit harder now. I do stop if symptoms start again, but I am able to do much more than before.0
-
So glad you are improving while being careful at the same time. As I get older I am taking less chances doing things that are a potential risk. I do not want to have to depend on family and friends to have to take care of me because I made a less-than-smart move. I want to be the one available to help others.0
-
Me too this week I have been taking it easy as I am really tired. It's so not like me. So I'm just getting through work and eating properly and going to bed early.0
-
I'm so happy! Last night we spent the entire Jui Jitsu session (90 minutes) doing technique, which is all I can do anyway! I do enjoy technique sessions anyway and we learnt such an amazing one. Total game changer! Just over 7 weeks until I can start trying to apply it to my game, which is tricky as everyone in my club already knows it! It was just an awesome session.
I also got to show some of the trainers at my club and their families all my animals at work that afternoon. Apparently three pro cage fighters are not that tough... Spiders were not their favourites.1 -
It looks like there are just 3 active members left in this group. Is there a Slim by Summer 2017 group that others have gone to? I'm nowhere near my goal, but I'm not giving up!!!0
-
Not that I know of I think summer just has others waylaid they'll be back. Marcella is around just super busy and I think Trish got sidelined with her vacation and the end of school and moving. She'll probably be back in fall. How about we give it to fall to see if anyone returns and if not we will attempt to make a new group slim by summer but we won't put a year on it. LOL So people won't think it's defunct. I too am still working on my weight.0

So I ran to my mom's and she was a little moody and was like I hate this cabinet. I was well the day you decide to get rid of it I love it and would like it. Then I added that's if my sister hasn't already claimed it. She was your sister has no room for it and she can't have everything. So I just may get something I like in a few years. My sister would have loaded it in her car and had been out the door with it. ( I think she was just having a moody day. )
I bought my dad a lottery ticket as the lottery is high. the other day he bought the ticket and had me hold it so today I bought him one and said here you hold it and see if we win. It's nice to think OH what if but your chances of winning are slim to none.
We are having a drought here so it's hot and miserable here. plus with all the road construction it's really hard to get around. In the past I would have said I'll just walk but with the construction even that is hard to do. the girl at work who doesn't drive got hit with a construction cone so it's not safe. When I went to go under the viaduct the construction guys who are actually my neighbors grabbed me and took me via the construction vehicles rather than have me walk as their was so much happening. so no more walking till it's over at least not that direction. When I mentioned it to Tammy she was like sure now that your smaller they care about you. It did make me think would they have done it last year? I really don't think so. When i was heavier I was invisible that's why I stayed heavy.
Time for me to get something done before hitting the hay til later my friends, sue0 -
@CaptainBoing I know a lot of people who are afraid of spiders LOL. when we bought our house it was completely empty and somehow this huge fury water spider decided to land on my mother it's lucky she didn't have a heart attack right there she stood still and said sternly "get it!" in a whisper. I don't know why it chose her to land on or to come out of the rafters at that moment but it's why she won't ever move in with me. LOL0
-
I don't think I'd care to have anything from my mom. We have different tastes.
I would LOVE to win the lottery! But chances are slim to none, none actually, since I don't buy tickets anymore.
I definitely noticed people being nicer to me as I lose weight. More folks say "hi", open doors, smile, etc. Sometimes, I want to be invisible again because I like keeping to myself, but I feel so much better now as I get lighter.
Spiders are fine...on someone else.0 -
Hi! I'm Susan from N Louisiana! @2020pinktogo and I are in another group together that is just about defunct except for the 2 of us and she invited me to this group. I have been looking for an active group for accountability. I am 6 pounds from my goal and those 6 pounds really like me and want to stick around.0
-
The only thing I really want from my folks is the frame with my grandfather's captains papers in it! I love the maritime history of it and his ocean going career is the reason we live in South Africa, which I love! I even have an anchor tattoo in memory of him (which he would have hated!)
Welcome Susan.1 -
@CaptainBoing we have no Captains in our family but they seemed to travel as we have steamer trunks. The original deal was My mom and each of her brothers were going to get one. Then when the time came They just took what they wanted and left the trunks so I hauled them to my mom's of course my sister took first dibs. LOL Mine is still at moms for fear my daughter will stake claim to it and as I'm still a dumping ground for all her moves I don't have room for it when we move her for the zillionth time. My goal is to get it by next summer after we have her moved again this January. Granted if she has room for it in her new place I will probably let her have it. I'm such a sap. I would rather she enjoys it while I am alive then when the day comes and I die she goes WTH am I going to do with all of this.
Well I got up and exercised already so I can work my long shift in this blazing heat. I am hoping that the day goes smooth. Yep I can dream. LOL
(Talking of hating )I named my daughter after my great grandmother and she hated her name but I adored her. LOL I guess when we see them some day we are in for it.
Have a great day everyone!!!0 -
Welcome, Susan! Maybe Sue can bring in some more members. @CaptainBoing provides all the enthusiasm (we want to be like her) and Sue provides the support and humor. I'm just a participant who desperately wants to lose weight but is not making the real effort at the moment.
I have lost 42 lbs since Jan 2015. Having started at 252 so I still have a lot to go. Susan, can you tell us about your history and how you got to be only 6 stubborn pounds away from goal?0 -
@CaptainBoing Authentic, historical papers from a captain, awesome!0
-
Sue, your sister always seems to get the best of everything. Go get what you want! You deserve it!
I've never like my name (Olga). I have no idea why my mom gave me this name. And now as she struggles with her memory, she too, doesn't remember why. Once, she said to ME," What's your name? That's a rare name." Like it's my fault and had nothing to do with her.
Thanks for bringing in a new member!0 -
@NewOR2015 Next time your mom says Oh that's a rare name tell her a whopper of a story. That you were named after a gypsy woman who helped your mother during her delivery. LOL Thank goodness it was Olga cause otherwise you would have been named BERT but she was busy delivering twins. LOL1

@CaptainBoing Authentic, historical papers from a captain, awesome!
It is actually his apprentice papers as well. Mounted really nicely between two sheets of glass so you can see both sides. My brother got the medals from my other grandfather but I always had a thing for the ocean, plus I love the story of how he was stranded in South Africa during the war. He met this lady who became my mother's godmother. Mom came to visit her when she was 16 (my family is from the UK) and when my folks got married, they were offered jobs in Canada or South Africa and chose here, because mom had liked it.
My parents were expecting twin boys and were going to name them Francis and Basil after my captain grandfather. I ended up being only one and a girl so I got grans name, which mom also had, but both of us were known by our second names. I hated the family name for years but have embraced it totally now and use it interchangably with my second name (which really confuses people). I love the meaning of both names. Varla is first and it is Scandinavian (was actually the name of a ship) and means Warrior Princess. Fiona is second and is Scottish (dad's mom is Scottish and I love the history of that country) and means fair and pure. Plus, I love Princess Fiona from Shrek.1 -
@CaptainBoing now that's cool!0
-
OK today I wanted ice cream I was so excited to leave work early and I was going to go over to my parents to go take them out for some. They were too tired and said not today. Oh man what a bummer.0

Hey everyone! I'm another recruit from @2020pinktogo. My name is Cindy. I am so pumped that she reached out as I am floundering out here. THis time last year I had lost about 30lbs and sadly have gained much of it back. So happy to have a small but active group to reach out to.
A bit about me. I am a counselor by trade, but currently manage a geriatric group counseling practice that I LOVE. I never thought I would find inspiration by senior citizens, but I swear they teach me more than i do them.
Now to catch up.. @CaptainBoing Concussion? Jui Jitsu? wow. I'm amazed. So glad you are taking care to do the full recovery and your excitement to get back to Jui Jitsu is inspiring. I also understand the pull to have things of your grandparents. Both grandfathers wore a fedora and I have one of each of their hats. Maternal grandfather (DeeDee) carried a blue plastic coin purse and i also have one of those. Not as cool as the papers under glass, but pretty darn awesome.
@NewOR2015 I have always disliked my name...Cindy...i mean if I'm not called Cindy Lou Who (which I actually kind of like) then I'm likened to Cindy Brady....EEEKKKK. But, I do believe i have the personality of a Cindy so I guess the baby book they picked my name out of worked. My parents were VERY happy the nickname my sister gave me (we are 13months apart) didn't stick. Shelley would "pat" my head apparently very hard when i would cry and my parents would say "easy easy". Shelley thought that was my name and would call me that.
@2020pinktogo thanks for telling me about this group. seems like a great one. I have to ask, what sort of work do you do out in the heat?
@1skholloway welcome other newbie. 6lbs from goal weight. That is amazing. So glad you found this group to help you across the finish line.
