Hey everyone! I'm another recruit from @2020pinktogo. My name is Casey from Darwin, Australia. I am glad that she reached out as I do often get sidetracked but love the support this site offers. This year I have lost about 7kg but over 30cm. After starting back at roller derby I have gained a little which I believe is muscle gain. Look forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome Casey! I look forward to getting to know you. I enjoy getting to know online friends from places I have never been. I learn so much.

I admire you for participating in roller derby. We have a women's team in the town where I live but I have never attended a game. I don't know anything about the sport but seem to think it has a reputation of being a rough sport. The players must be dedicated because the nearest competitors are at least 1 1/2 hours away and I think I have read where they sometimes travel that far just to practice. (I live in a small town where everything is pretty much within 20 minutes of me. Driving 3 hours round trip to practice on a week night is too much for me!) Our team raises money for good causes very often during their playing season.

If you have a Fitbit, you may want to check out the link pasted below. It lists ways to save money using your Fitbit. I am all about saving money!!!! I just found this article this morning so I haven't tried any of these. I have read negative reviews of programs such as Pact. I am going to link my Fitbit with Walgreens and Dick's Sporting Goods apps to see if it's worth it to me. I will also check with my insurance carrier but I don't think this will apply to me. I hope this is good information.

@KrazedBemused Hi! Welcome to our group. I am Olga, 59, from Austin TX. I started on mfp in March 2015 and did well for a while. I've been in a rut for awhile but recently got back into a good routine. I like reading updates from our more active group mates. Sometimes their excitement motivates me to get up. :)

@KrazedBemused Love the profile name and Yay, another southern hemisphere person! Welcome!
I'm from sunny South Africa (except the sun seems to have taken a holiday). I'm a bit obsessed with fighting sports (fencing, Brazilian Jui Jitsu and Judo) although I'm not actually allowed to train properly at the moment due to a couple of concussions. Apparently starting martial arts in your late 30s is a bit complicated...
At work, I spend my days looking after snakes and spiders!

So today I went and inquired about a job I had heard about. Well right now it's not posted and I am to watch their web site and go from there. This was a big move for me I don't think I would have ever done anything like this in the past and It was nerve racking but nothing ventured nothing gained. :)

Took the garbage over to Mom's and then today I shredded stuff as hubby said I couldn't go into the room I had wanted to do today until he looked at some of the stuff. OY If you haven't used anything and didn't know what ya had you won't miss it.

@1skholloway I wish my fitbit linked to the computer so i could save some extra cash. I love mine wear it everyday but I won't be buying a new one til this one is dead in it's tracks. I did tell my sister and daughter so they could link up. Maybe it will get them moving. LOL

@2020pinktogo good for you for checking on the job! I hate that your Fitbit won't sync to your computer. I don't know that I could hold out and not replace mine. I feel like mine has helped to change my life. I have heard the company is good about replacing them when there are problems. Have you checked with Fitbit?

Hello, @KrazedBemused and welcome! I recently joined myself. My name is Danielle, am 47, retired, and living in Seattle, WA. I have never been to Australia. I enjoy traveling and should really check it out sometime. Have you ever been to the US?

@CaptainBoing -- I hear you! I didn't really get active until I was in my 30s and I started lifting weights when I turned 40. Now I have my chronic knee injury and tendonitis in both arms! Oh, well, just means we have to be creative in our exercise.

@1skholloway -- Thanks for the link! I am a cheapskate and do not have a device like Fitbit. My phone has an app that measures my activity, and I'll use it sometimes. But, I do it oldschool- turn on a timer when I start, then turn it off when I'm done, then log my activity. XD

@2020pinktogo -- Glad you got the ball rolling on looking for a new job. You are a cleaning machine this week!!!

Was so hot today. I did my calisthenics, some housecleaning, and went on a short walk with DH. That's it for my exercise today. Better than nothing.

@CaptainBoing what do you that you look after snakes and spiders?

I basically work at a specialist zoo. The complex includes a museum, an oceanarium and a snake park. I am based in the Snake Park mostly but get to help out wherever needed. Found out yesterday that I might have a chance to go on a field trip to turtle nesting areas with the university in the summer! It will be tricky as that is our busiest season but I have wanted to go for years and now they need someone to help catch snakes for a project so I can motivate that my specific skills are needed! Super excited about it.

Tonight I'm going to fencing because we have a big competition in town in 10 weeks. Between knee surgery and acl tear recovery then fencing clashing with my new Jui Jitsu club times I haven't actually done much fencing since August last year...

Recovering from some surgery and some meds that make it more difficult to lose. But recovery is well underway and meds are done. I have a trip planned end of August (actually 4 weeks from tomorrow) and plan to have the weight back down a bit. Excited to get it done!

I get to do fencing every Wednesday now! So excited to get back on piste.
Tried a new class at the new gym this morning and turns out it is run by a biokenetesist who works with my knee rehab guy so she is super good at correcting form. Class is all about glutes and abs which I really need. Wednesday morning training sorted as well!

@JMarcella57 and @CaptainBoing Glad to hear things are going your way.

I had to make the trip to Brownsville again yesterday because my cousin passed away. (Cancer is a *kitten*.) I drove through a lot of rain. It was great to see the rain actually because it had been so hot and dry lately.

@CaptainBoing , well that's an interesting job! It's not one that I would want but it's very interesting. I skip the snake building when I visit the zoo.

I had my first encounter with a snake in my yard this summer. It was about 18" long and non-poisonous. The problem was it appeared on my front and back porches and that wasn't cool! I was scared it would get and my house. I had just bought a hoe in case of snake encounters while working in the yard. I chased the snake up and down the length the back of my house a couple of times and then it went around the corner. I was concerned it would get in the bushes in front of my house and I would lose it. At this point I knew I had to move in for the kill. I started praying out loud and quoting "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" and finally killed the garter snake. I chopped it in to 5 pieces. I'm sure it would have made a funny video.

Nothing like a kitchen sink drain leak all over the kitchen floor at 6 a.m.! Praise the Lord I had already made and drank coffee! It was a new kind I had found, Folgers Chocolate Silk which is wonderful by the way. On a positive note, I was able to get instructions over the phone on how to fix the leak myself. Water is cleaned up, the pipes are tightened and double checked to make sure they don't leak now at $0 cost to me!

I am blessed to work for a wonderful employer and being late for this is no problem. I'm also going to see the chiropractor before I go to work.

@JanolaBarbara my husband has encouraged me to go back to my high protein way of eating. I did indeed lose the better part of my weight that way and of course have gained it back as I allowed breads and pasta to re-enter my life. Spanish lessons. That’s great. I also love the idea of your job. Support and learning while siblings are going through cancer. That is awesome.

@2020pinktogo you are a cleaning master. My sister’s husband is a hoarder also. The man keeps bean dip cans “because you never know when you need one”. We have all laughed at him, but I can tell you the man uses those things like crazy. Odd screws/nuts/bolts…bean dip can. Transporting cupcakes…bean dip cans keep them from falling over. Are you usually the one who goes to Sonic for drinks for the office during happy hour? Bean dip can Velcro-ed to a laundry basket and easy transport… I love that your neighbor is so helpful in your process of trash eradication. Love helpful neighbors.

Reminds me of a story of my grandmother. I used to laugh at her when she would leave cups of ice, 2 liter cokes and snacks out for her trash pick up guys. But whenever she needed something picked, up…they would just happen to swing by her house and it would be gone. Yes, I leave those things now (well a cooler of ice with cold sodas etc). It still works!

@1skholloway I looked into that link. Definitely worth signing up for. I am addicted to my fitbit. I actually set a timer on my phone for say, 10:55. That way I can get my 10 o’clock and 11 o’clock steps in during one walk break. I have also put off my walking while my fitbit charged because I want my credit for those steps. Hello, my name is Cindy and I’m addicted to feedback from an electronic device.

@KrazedBemused welcome aboard. My sister loved her time traveling Australia and I would love to get there one day. I’m with you, I love having the support of these small groups and really feel it when I am away like I have been the past few days. Can’t wait to hear more about roller derby. A coworker has recently joined a team and is just now trained enough to actually compete. It’s a trip hearing her talk about it.

@CaptainBoing you will have to let us know how the training for the fencing competition goes. Is this something that happens regularly? An annual competition? I find I am very competitive and also have some fear of public humiliation which definitely seems to counterbalance. I’m in awe of people who can hone a craft and do it publically. I may do these 10k’s etc, but there are so many people in them that I can easily blend into the background. Kudos to you!

@JMarcella57 it is definitely difficult to lose weight/stay active after a surgical procedure. So happy that you will be able to focus on that prior to your upcoming trip. Where are you going?

whew. I hate having to catch up after several days away. So much has happened on this group. That is awesome.
I've been filling in for several people at the office this week with some planned vacations and some out with sick relatives. Now, I'm back to my job only and so I can catch my breath a bit.

My husband has encouraged me to go back to my high protein way of eating that I was successful with in the past. I agree that is the best way for me to feel success as cutting out the breads and pasta, while still eating my fruits and some grains seems to help drop the weight and for me to feel successful. I guess I am one of those that can't gradually ease back my "usual" eating habits as it eventually ends up being my usual eating habits and blammo there comes the weight again. It's been successful so far as I have lost 2lbs this week (of course likely lots of water weight) but I need some success in order to keep motivated.

We have a cruise planned the week of Sept 17th and this will be the first one we go on without family to have to meet up with and ensure they are having a good time. My family are ones to center entertainment around food, whereas my husband and I are more active. The last time I was doing so well was right before our last cruise (this time last year) and honestly never got off of vacation mode eating.

    Feeling hopeful again!

Beautiful, sunny day here today! I'll probably go walking for my exercise. I love being outside! However, I got a little burnt yesterday. I don't feel it today, but I guess I should be more careful. I am Latina, so I tan beautifully (if I say so myself), but I should still protect my skin. We are planning a trip to Chile in Dec or Jan and we'll be doing a lot of hiking, so I want to be in shape. Walking will also give me a chance to hatch some Pokemon eggs and collect more pokeballs. XD

@blitzbis -- They really are keeping you busy at work. Glad you can focus on 'one' job now. Isn't it great when our spouses are supportive instead of trying to sabotage? I hope you have just as much success with a high protein diet. I've never been on a cruise. Where is yours this year? A lot of our vacation time is taken up in family visits which is nice, but I prefer when it's just me and my husband. We're also a bit more active than my family.

@1skholloway -- Oh, no! Sorry about your sink, but kudos for taking care of it yourself! You're lucky to have a flexible start at work. How was your visit to the chiropractor?

@NewOR2015 -- I am so sorry for your loss. Your family is in my thoughts.

@CaptainBoing -- Fencing!?! Awesome! Wow! How do you have time to sleep with all your activities? lol. Way to stay active. Do you think you'll be able to get up to speed in time for the competition? Are your a herpetologist? Hope you are able to check out the turtle nests. I saw a sea turtle make a nest in Florida many years ago.

@JMarcella57 -- Glad your recovery is smooth. A trip by the end of Aug? How exciting! Where to? How long? I'm also working on getting down a few lbs before our trip in Dec/Jan.

    @Jacquitheelder -- I had a great July 26. Happy July 27!

@JanolaBarbara this time we are heading out of Galveston, TX to Mahogony Bay, Belize and Cozumel (been there 1 other time). Have one hiking excursion and then one at the beach. At Cozumel we'll just get off the ship and walk around. This is the first cruise we have been on with a "real" exercise room. Last time there was an outside walking track and some fitness equipment outside that as body weight resisitance stuff. Pretty nice, but it was windy on that top deck, that I didn't feel comfortable walking around it early in the morning. I'm a hefty girl and thought I was going to be blown down several times!

@NewOR2015 I thought I had done better, responding to all the posts until I saw @JanolaBarbara mention your loss. Travel for funerals is difficult. Be safe and you are in our thoughts!

Eating well so far today and have able to get in a few quick walks. It really does clear the head!

@NewOR2015 Travel safe and I'm so glad you had some rain. We had a little rain Monday but not enough to get us off the water restrictions ban. My daughter stopped in yesterday and spotted my new Pink journal and made a face and said is this for me. :| I said well sort of I am going to put in notes in it for you in case I were to drop dead. ;) She laughed and said really mom and I'm like yep I said just in case you'll know where to look for dad's life insurance because it's not in the fire safe with my papers. She rolled her eyes and I said and I figured there is a bunch of things I would like you to know but you really don't want to talk about so I'll just jot them down. ;)

Oh my lordy I had so much recycle out today it took me a half hour just to get it all outside. I started dragging everything to the street at 4:30 am so I wouldn't miss the first truck. LOL

Today was go visit grandma day and as I'm tired I kept tripping and my mother was like what are you having and i'm like seriously there is a lump in the carpeting. I don't know why they wouldn't believe me. LOL

@JanolaBarbara I ordered a tie dye pokeball shirt for my nephew. I pick it up at the farmers market on Saturday. Another thing I was laughing at my daughter about as she asked me to drive her to the pharmacy and she had her phone and I teased her I thought she should be walking to catch these pokemon not have her mom drive her around town. ;) By the way I guess I did well on being clueless I had ordered a blue and white tie dyed shirt with the poke ball in the center and lo and behold that's the team my daughter is on. So my nephew who is always doing the same thing as my daughter must also be team blue. I just liked the color combination LOL

the only thing I did which touched a nerve was I asked my daughter to bring one of her suits home for me and she did. She insisted I try it on as I just put it in the closet so I did and it fits me and it does not fit her. I think she has 6 suits and I just didn't want her donating them when I could wear them. I'm hoping it gives her some incentive to lose weight but I don't think right now it's on her priority list. My mom was glad I had asked she's like you bought the suit you just bought her a new suit why not? I still felt bad I hated when my mom and I were the same size when I was younger. When I was older I really didn't care but when I was younger I hated it.

@1skholloway Great job on fixing the sink!! My work would never be flexible.

Today's donate box was a box of school supplies I had my daughter go through the tote of school supplies and she said OK all this stuff I will not be using and will never need so I boxed it to go to church. Our church is helping a poor parish with their school supplies and I am downsizing everything now. I'm also going to look for the tote of fabric to donate to the seniors who make comfort dolls. They're the dolls that are given to children who ride in the ambulance. Fabric hasn't been touched in years time to go.

@blitzbis I feel your pain about gaining weight when you add back carbs. I don't do moderation well. I am kind of eating high protein/low carb as well. I eat no added sugar if I can help it. I eat whole grains such as oatmeal, low carb tortillas, and Wasa brand crispbread. I want to continue to eat this way when I start maintenance.

I too seem to be addicted to my Fitbit. Someone in an MFP forum told me about AchieveMint. You can earn points based upon healthy activities and when you reach a high number of points you earn an electronic Visa gift card. It syncs with things like MFP, Fitbit, etc. You don't have to link it to your phone. The person said she had used it and earned money using it. I signed up and it let me use my history for the last month.

My sink fix was an easy fix but I was proud that I was able to fix it myself. I am single and not very handy at fixing things. I can break things very well though.

@2020pinktogo My job is wonderful! I hope to stay with the organization until I retire. I am a secretary for a non-profit that provides residential care for children, mainly ones in foster care.

Good for you for getting rid of stuff! I am doing the same. A guy who works at the local thrift store where I donate has started recognizing me because I have been taking so much stuff there lately. I still have 2 rooms to clean out. It can be hard for me to let go of things but I am getting better of it. It's hardest for me to let go of clothes that are too big for me. I am scared I am going to gain the weight back again and need them again. I am getting of everything that is too big this time though. I'm not saving a cushion.

@JanolaBarbara I walked outside about 2:45 and it was beautiful here too. The heat wasn't unbearable and there was a breeze. I would walk outside except I really need to get back to the gym today. I haven't been in 2 weeks. I so do not want to go to the gym!!!!!! I'm not sure why. I'm kind of bored with it and since summer started it smells like a gym. Ugh!!!

The chiropractor visit was good. I have sciatica and it's acting up some. I think it's one of those lovely ailments one acquires with age that never goes away. I had a session of about 10 minutes with the tens unit on my back and then an adjustment by the doctor. I still had to use Cryo Derm when I got to work. It's a miracle product and better than Bio Freeze. I recommend the cold version (it has blue print) for anyone experiencing pain. Amazon sells it.

I love my fitbit I was really compulsive with it and the badges every time I got a new badge I would email it to my nephews. LOL I think before it went on the blitz I was down to the last 3 badges. At work they had put up a cartoon of a woman not going to bed until she got her steps and her next badge/level. :D Now it's a part of me but I'm not so compulsive about it. I do like to get a set amount in daily but I'm no longer worried about badges etc.

It's like taking a leap of faith when you get rid of all your large clothes. I took the leap and then I said woohoo and bought bright colors. Then when I was having a mini crisis and would have liked to have eaten myself into a stupor I just got back some comfort colors as I call them. The blacks and navys so when I am having a day and I want to blend more and not be seen I can wear my comfort colors.

I have gotten rid of most of my larger clothes too. I had this one pair of jeans that I had kept and that pair of jeans allowed me to re-gain about 10 pounds over the past 2 months while we were having landscaping done (I wasn't sleeping enough and was out of my routine). This time, as soon as I am out of that pair of jeans, they will be "out the door"! There will be no going back! :#

I, too have recently gotten rid of lots of clothes. We just had so many in the closet and really only wore about 20%. Not sure if I got rid of big clothes or small clothes. Guess I figured either way it was time to clean house.

Got lots of good rain yesterday. I was so excited. So far, this summer we have been able to avoid a burn ban (I love to BBQ) and this most recent rain likely kept one at bay!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Today's stuff I scuttled out of the garage was more cardboard. OMG will it ever end. I loaded up my dad's car to take to recycle. then I went over to the church and dropped off 6 phone books and magazines and newspapers into the paper recycle bin. Only to come home and notice 3 more phone books I missed. OMG will it ever end. I can actually say the garage isn't paths anymore.

took mom to a gift shop she wanted to go to and she bought yogurt covered pretzel. Well I have never had them before and we just gorged on them and thought really how bad can they be. OMG it was bad I won't be having those again any time soon. I really must remember if it doesn't list the calories it's because they don't want you to know.

Well I'm off to bed mom said she may walk with me tomorrow morning. then I need to finish up the garage as mom wants to go to a flea market on saturday. I said no problem and dad asked if he could tag along too. Dad's the one we have to worry about as he can't just look he feels obligated to buy.

Wow! Lots for me to read today!

I'm pretty good at getting rid of stuff. My house has only what I need. I love having space, just space. That's why it bothers me to visit my mom's house. She has stuff, lots of stuff! And she doesn't want me getting rid of any of her stuff.

Well, returning to Brownsville messed up my routine that I had wanted to get back to doing. I ate more than I should and exercised less than I should. I need to learn to survive in spite of things that pop up. I keep coming up with excuses.

As a retired teacher I can tell you that anytime is great time to donate school supplies.

I concur anytime is good to donate. I work for a nonprofit. People think about us at Christmas especially but our clients need things year round.
