I don't think I could ever exercise first thing in the morning. It takes me hours to warm up and get my body going. That's just me.

I really enjoy getting away from the office for a bit. Usually, I eat at my desk, stay in the building all day (except when I have to get my hourly steps) and so being alone for 1/2 an hour walking in the park nearby allows me to come back and get busy again. (sometimes)

Well, it's going to be a beautiful day today. I think I'll spend a couple of hours in the garden today for my exercise. Since I haven't been able to work on it for a couple of weeks, it really needs the TLC. Yesterday, I spent an hour in the veggie patch alone! I have a lot of other chores to get done today. I feel like I have to get caught up on my life before I can settle back into my regular routine. We have friends coming to visit for the weekend (and next weekend), and I still need to do laundry from our last guest 2 weeks ago! Plus, it's time for some meal planning and grocery shopping. Oh, well, it'll all get done.

@NewOR2015 -- I get on the scale almost every day. For the most part, it no longer bothers me so much. What I avoid is the mirror! However, a couple of months ago we stayed at a B&B and I happened to catch myself naked in a mirror, and my first thought was, "Oh, I'm not that bad looking!

@blitzbis -- I'm giggling, imagining myself driving along and then being pelted by candy and cheetos! XD But, the struggle to stay on track is real. When I want to eat something unhealthy, I settle myself and try to figure out why. Am I hungry? Am I craving something salty? sweet? Am I angry? sad? Once I know why I want it, then I negotiate with myself and try to find a healthier alternative, like a low cal option, a good walk, or a good cry.

@2020pinktogo -- Seems there's always a good reason for not exercising. I'm proud of you for making time for it today! I've heard people say that exercise in the morning energizes them. How did you feel the rest of your day?

Thank goodness I did it before as my relief called to say she would be late and ticked me off. 3rd time this week she's late but hey I am sorry we are an inconvenience. Oh they drive me crazy

It is the start of my week long birthday celebrations today! Tea with my friend and her girls (it is her birthday this month as well!) Tomorrow I'm baking cake for my tribe!

I'm also joining another gym (a normal one in addition to the MMA one, because the MMA one has few classes and I really want to do more, plus they have a special on!)

@CaptainBoing Specials always make me think Hmmmm I can do this then it's that germy thing that gets me every time. LOL I like cake but I don't like frosting on it. I know I think it's because I was a cake decorator for so many years and when you make frosting by the lbs it just turns your stomach.

@NewOr2015 Her excuse was she was stuck in town I'm sure she could hear my eye's roll my boss says this one has taken over crazy's spot. Thank goodness I do not work with her this week our paths may cross but probably not as she is always late and I no longer wait for her. I may have to on the one day as I can't leave our dept completely empty. We shall see.

If we lived in the days of feeding the volcano she would dance her way up the side of the volcano and inform every woman how she was chosen as she is the most desirable. And once she did her dance and leap in you know what we are all thinking. ;)

I have to get ready for work as the said offender needed off so I have to work late today. til later or tomorrow, sue

Well the said offender has not been clocking in and has just been signing the sheets and getting paid for coming in late. I saw this one and let my boss know she is like What is with you and always having to be on top of things. I'm like I'm compulsive I just can't stop myself I am going to drive myself crazy. I really need to find a new job as this is going to send me over the edge. If only I didn't need the insurance. LOL

Sue, good jobs are not easy to find these days. Hang on to what you've got...no matter how many wackos you come across.

Danielle, I'm avoiding the scale AND the mirror these days. :)

I have not been doing anything to get me to my Slim By Summer goals. I eat whatever, and just hang around the house with my mother. Our only outing was church this morning. I think I'll head back to my real life on Wed or Thur. I really need to. I need to start watching what I'm eating and desperately need to start walking again. I've been logging between 2,000 and 3,000 calories a day and not giving it a second thought. If I don't stop, I am going to be back where I started in Jan 2015. The only good thing I've been doing is drinking lots of water.

How is everyone else doing? Better than I am, I hope!

NOPE it's hot here and we are in a drought and I think I may have to break out the shorts. I really am not a shorts person but when the whole world has them on and I don't have to buy them just put on a pair of my daughters UGH!!!!! why does it have to be so hot. :s

Not to worry I'm too practical I will have another job before i even give my notice and I have to wait 3 years til my daughter is out of school and off our insurance:smirk:

I did well today on the water but I had a few days where I was drinking everything but water. Going to have to work on that.

I give you a lot of credit I think if I spent as much time as you do at my parents I would start cleaning things out. Though for fear my sister will come in with a dumpster my mom and dad are already doing so. LOL Yep my sister rules the roost. LOL Good thing she lives far away and can only voice her opinion:smirk:

So sorry I have been MIA since joining the group. Life seems to have been busier than normal lately.

Someone asked me to tell about myself. (You may regret that as I this will probably be very long.) I am divorced with no kids or pets. I have always lived in N Louisiana but I HATE the heat. Since losing weight this year, I do tolerate it better. It's hard for me to believe I am still occasionally walking for exercise outdoors in July.

I have had a weight problem all my life. Truly! It is inherited and from learned eating habits. I can recall dieting as early as 2nd grade. I actually starved myself for a little bit in about the 5th grade. Around the same time I did Weight Watchers for the first time. My mom started buying diet pills for me by 6th grade.

Fast forward to age 30, I had been divorced twice and was diagnosed with chronic depression. My 30's were very difficult as I was in and out of depressive episodes. Praise God turning 40 was a turning point for the better in my life. It took a while to get better. I am not where I want to be but I am not where I was.

A few years ago I lost over 100 pounds. I used MFP then also. I got somewhat obsessive about my losing weight but I didn't recognize it at the time. Toward the end of my weight loss journey I recognized I had a food addiction and it scared me. I then got ill with a sinus infection or something and couldn't get well. My general doctor told me to start eating more and not exercise until I got well. Unfortunately, once I got well, I didn't stop eating more and I seldom exercised again. I gained all but about 15 pounds back of what I had lost. I ended up eating like there was no tomorrow and I didn't care what I weighed.

Finally, toward the end of last year, something clicked and I decided it was time to get healthy. I don't use that awful 4 letter D word when it comes to my eating habits (diet). I choose to say healthy eating choices instead. I joined a gym and starting eating healthy. As of now, my exercise of choice is walking. I try to walk at least 30 minutes a day as often as I can. Sometimes it's only 3 days a week and sometimes it's 6. I really don't like exercise and I am trying to change my mindset about it. Getting a fitbit has helped me to move more. I also do some strength training at the gym.

I am very consistent with my eating. I eat 1200-1300 calories a day. I eat a nutritionally balanced diet with 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables, 3 servings of whole grain, some healthy fat, and healthy protein. I have given up added sugar and seldom drink diet soda. These were huge for me! I tend to eat the same thing day in and out and I find that works for me. People think I eat weird stuff but it works for me. I don't cook much so so I choose simple stuff. Thankfully, I don't get tired of eating the same thing.

So far, I have lost 70 pounds this year. I am blessed in that I can lose weight as fast as I can put it on when I set my mind to it. I don't know how many more pounds I will lose until I will decide to maintain. I want to lose at least 10 more pounds but it's getting harder to lose the weight. Currently I weight 180 and wear a size 14.

I went to my doctor last week and my cholesterol had dropped by 41 points to 175 and he let me get off my cholesterol medicine. All my numbers were good. Diabetes and heart disease run in my family. I want to continue to make healthy choices eating and exercise choices for the rest of my life so that I won't have the health problems that some of my family has.

This morning was rough and in the old days I would have been eating sugar and chocolate and guzzling diet soda. Today I have had coffee and Jesus to get me through instead.

Y'all seem life a fun group and I look forward to getting to know you!

@1skholloway - Thank you for sharing. Your story is inspirational. I have been losing weight using the same healthy method. Over the past month, though, I have gotten a bit off-track while I haven't been able to maintain my usual routine. I got up this morning and smiled knowing that new days are wonderful. I look forward to being back on track any back to making the healthy choices. For me sleep is key and I can now finally get back to my better sleep patterns again.

Hey all. I have started this reply 3 different times and for various reasons have lost it so now, for generic responses.

It seems like everyone has had some interesting times lately. @2020pinktogo pinktogo I hate it when co workers don't pull their weight. Now that I'm a supervisor, I find it difficult to judge someone's work ethic based on an interview. Everyone knows what to say and human resource departments can't/won't tell you anything except their job title and whether or not they are re-hireable. Good luck!

Happy Birthday week, @CaptainBoing sounds like you have lots of celebrations planned. Is the new gym more of a "regular" gym..treadmillw, weights etc? I miss being attached to a hospital with a good gym and even better inexpensive personal trainer rates!

@NewOR2015 are you visiting your mom for the summer? or is she needing extra care right now and you are caretaker? So proud of you drinking your water. One thing at a time, right?

@1skholloway Welcome aboard. Congrats on your weight loss! Itsn't it awesome when the numbers go down and then labwork also shows an improvement as well. So proud of you for alerting yourself to the need for more mindful eating choices due to the bad day. Sometimes I'm good at that, sometimes not. Lately, I'm "mostly not". But today is a new day and start to a new week.

Yesterday i completed a 10k run in Dallas. I have entered a series of 6 races and the last one is August 14th. The one yesterday about killed me in the heat. I know it will only get hotter, but maybe this last one won't be on as much pavement. Fingers crossed. It really bummed me out that it took me 2 hours to complete it. But, as others tell me, at least I completed it. But when it's 30 minutes longer than you usually do, it's hard to be excited.

    Good morning, all!

It's cloudy here in the PNW. It even drizzled a little. I am still going on a walk today. I will aim for 4 mi and walk along the beachfront. I prefer to walk there when it's gray because I love being near the water, even on cloudy days. Otherwise, I'd talk myself out of exercise! My squashes seem to have a fungal-thing going on, so I'm also going to deal with that today. And try to get my usual Monday household chores done.

We had friends stay with us this weekend and we went to a brunch party yesterday. Our friends have a toddler (we are child-free), so there was a lot of adjusting for me and making the house toddler-proof, one knickknack at a time! XD Overall, I made good food choices, but it will be nice to get back into my routine again. Although, I promised my husband I'd make an apple pie for him to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary. Today is really the only day that works for the both of us (how can we be so busy already???). I'm sure I can enjoy one piece of pie and still stay within my calorie goal (maybe I will do a 5 mi walk?).

@1skholloway -- Welcome again! Thanks for sharing your story. I've also been struggling with my weight my entire life. I lost 60 lbs with Weight Watchers years ago, and kept it off for 5 years, but it's crept up again. I discovered that I have food sensitivities, so this summer I am concentrating on eating clean, which is turning out to be as hard for me as cutting out calories! Diabetes, depression, and other mental disorders run in my family and they are great motivators for me to continue making healthy food choices (I also hate the D word!) and exercise. Congrats on getting off of cholesterol meds! Also, I'm impressed with your consistent eating.

@2020pinktogo --grrr! I hate people like your coworker! I would think your boss would be appreciative of you pointing this out. She's losing the company money that way. I totally agree with your plan-- don't leave until you've got a new job waiting for you! I don't miss dry, hot summers. I grew up in Southern California and totally love the cooler, green summers here in Seattle.

@NewOR2015 -- Well, I didn't weigh myself today!! Yesterday was a challenging day, so I'm taking today off from the scale. :-P I'll see what it says tomorrow. Kudos to you for staying with your mother. Anything that takes us away from our normal routine throws us off and is a challenge. At least you are logging and drinking water, and you want to do better! I hope you are able to set a small goal and accomplish it soon.

@CaptainBoing -- Happy Birthday Week! Tea with your friends sounds like a great way to start the celebration! What kind of cake did you bake? What else do you have planned for the week? I'd love to hear more about the number and types of gyms you belong to. What do you get from each gym? I used to do Crossfit, then I moved and joined a weightlifting gym, then moved again and joined a "normal" gym. Then moved AGAIN (and for the last time, hopefully) and now workout from home.

@JMarcella57 -- I love your positive attitude. You are so right, today is a new day, full of opportunities to be successful and make healthy choices. Sleep is definitely important for good health and weightloss. Hope you had a good day!

@1skholloway Thanks for sharing and congrats on the progress. One part of my story may help you. I basically lost all of my weight through exercise. I was doing fencing (something I had always wanted to try, I mean it is sword fighting!) and I wanted to improve my fitness so my fencing could improve. My fitness level was shockingly low. I tried an MMA gym that lots of my friends trained at and was hooked. Gradually my fitness level improved and because i was training so hard eating healthy was just easier somehow. 6 months in to that I tried Brazilian Jui Jitsu which had since taken first place in my life over fencing (although I will get back to fencing soon, after a time away thanks to a torn acl) and then 6 months later tried judo which I also love and will get back to as soon as my concussion recovery is over. Basically, I learnt to try new things because you never know what you will enjoy. I was useless at them when I started (concussions are because I was so bad at judo!) but I found a passion for it and love seeing my improvement, even if it was much slower than others! So, my suggestion is to try different kinds of exercise etc, even if you think you would not like it. Just try it once, you never know. I was convinced MMA style training was not for me!

Thanks ladies! Wow you read my novella! :)

@JMarcella57 yes! Sleep is so important! I didn't realize what a difference it makes and boy do I need mine! I use a cpap machine every night and usually get at least 7 hours of sleep a night. I could probably sleep at least 8 hours or more hours every night if I made the time. I'm a secretary and my job is very low stress. By Friday I can usually sleep at least 12 hours. I can tell a difference in my weight loss when I get the a good amount of sleep.

@blitzbis WOW! Congratulations on completing a 10K in 2 hours in the Dallas heat yesterday! That is terrific! I know that's not the greatest time but the heat is bad right now. I'm concerned Aug. 14 will be even hotter. And to answer your question, yes getting good labwork is an awesome reward for my hard work. That helps make it easier to make good choices when I don't want to.

Hey, if I can exercise and make healthy eating choices, anybody can do it! Good support from people like y'all is a great help!

@blitzbis I generally celebrate all week long. Yesterday was one of my favourite times though. My best friends all came over for cake. I baked a Dory cake (blue cake, yellow icing) which was delicious. Also doing breakfast with a few of them on my actual birthday which is Wednesday! Benefit of being in maintenance is that I'm not monitoring food this week. I'm just enjoying life, which does include lots of activity! Yes, the new gym is a normal gym. I am mostly keen for classes (yoga, pilates etc) at the moment because of my concussion recovery, but all the Cardio machines are a nice option for rainy days. I am not allowed to play with weights until my recovery is over. There are benefits in having a good friend (who is like a little brother to me) who is qualified in training and rehab. He designs programs for us, but also is very strict on what we can't do when injured! He was doing my knee rehab until he got a great job as a surgical rep.

@CaptainBoing great suggestion! I would love to try Karate but don't have the money to invest in that right now. I do try new things by checking out dvds from the library and watching youtube videos. I am uncoordinated and have no athletic ability. I embarrassed myself while alone trying to follow a Zumba video and a dance video. My heart wants to dance but my body won't follow. I was raised in a very conservative household in which we weren't allowed to dance so I never learned how.

I do enjoy canoeing I just don't want to do it alone and I don't have anyone to go with me. I want to start hiking but I am working on a big home improvement project and just don't have the time right now. I enjoy nature and I want to explore.

@1skholloway Thanks for sharing your story. I, too, have a history of losing weight only to regain it. Through mfp I am learning about healthy eating. I am struggling right now but have definite plans to get into a good routine again once I go home.

@blitzbis The day my father died my mom seemed to lose it mentally. She has not been her old self since. She is 83 and has good days and not-so-good days. Her older sister has Alzheimer's, and she fears that will happen to her. She also has trouble with her legs and heart. My siblings and I take turns being with her 24/7 because her doctor says she could have a heart attack or stroke at any time. I live in Austin, and she lives in Brownsville. It's almost a six hour drive each way when I visit.

@JanolaBarbara I am afraid of getting back on the scale. I plan to do it when I go home sometime this week and face it head-on. I know I have gained weight by the way my clothes feel on me. Setting small goals will soon follow.

@JMarcella57 I'm glad you're back. I thought our group was shrinking, but Sue brought new members in. Yay!

    @CaptainBoing Continue to have a happy birthday/week/month!

@2020pinktogo I rather be comfortable in shorts with this heat than sweat it out in pants. I keep them at a decent length for my weight. And, yes, most of them are black or navy. Maybe next summer I'll get shorts in brighter, lighter colors.

OMG today was one of those days where you can't help but laugh. Mom wanted to go out and so we did. She got some fancy new knickers the big decision was do we pick all white or go with the variety pack. Oh we went bold and went with the variety pack. LOL :D Then we decided to look at bras for me. OK I guess it's been a long time since my mom has been to the store to get a bra as she was a hoot. Look at this one there is so much padding in it it could be used as a life preserver. Check out this one it is HUGE! I don't know how I did it but I actually found 2 bras.

My sister called and as my mom was filling her in she laughed and said well Sue has been buying your bras for the last 10 years what did you expect. I really hope my mom doesn't need a bra for a very long time as we are no longer the same size how am I going to buy her a bra. LOL Oh well I will deal with it when the time comes.

@1skholloway I too am not one for gyms but I try dvd's and different things. We have a lot of churches in our area and they do different exercise nights where everyone is welcome. YOu have the people who are the die hards and then you have the people just there for the social hour and to have fun. I am very uncoordinated and usually start off stating it and some old lady takes me under their wing. LOL we also have during the school year programs at the school called our community education program that offer a lot of different things. I used to love aqua size my biggest problem is getting off on the nights so I don't sign up for the programs as even though it's not a lot of money i don't want to throw money away if I can't attend.

@CaptainBoing Wow a whole week of celebrating you that is cool. I am lucky if my husband even remembers the day and last year he bought me an ice cream cake and he ate the whole thing before I even saw it. I would have rather he bought me a card just for me.

@blitzblis One of my goals this year is to do an 8k It's not that I can't do it. I have a big problem with crowds. this race is limited to 14k people and is usually sold out early and is on Thanksgiving day. I have someone to go with me and as long as I have my soul sister I should be fine. It's the thought of doing it alone maybe race number 2 but I will need someone to get me through the first one. My husband is not supportive he's very much if you have a panic attack I will not come to your aid you are on your own. So you don't know how much I envy your ability to just go do it. Who cares about time it's just a number you went you conquered you won. That's where I have to get to. That and I want to wear a tutu as a lot of people wear costumes and another one of my things was to wear a tutu and there a very few places that are tutu appropriate. LOL

Tried a new class at the gym today and it was so much fun! I am however already feeling it and the next couple of days are going to be sooooo sore. I sent my knee rehab guy a message trekking him that he is going to have lots of fun when he sees me on Thursday (he laughs when I struggle with stuff because I am sore because I overdid training!) His response was first concern that I got form wrong without him there watching and then moaning at me for cheating on him. Haha, it's actually quite fun having this guy in his early 20s making comments like that, especially when he totally could win a Wolverine look a like competition!

Then I went shopping and discovered that not only do certain girls clothing sizes fit me, but they are half the price of the adult sizes!

@2020pinktogo I really enjoy the runs. What I find exciting is that what I call the "real runners" are so encouraging. They dart past me and say, "great job keep up the good work" etc. I have never done a run that is more than probably 600 or 700 people. I don't know how I would do with 14,000. I don't mind crowds and that is pretty overwhelming! You are right, I am lucky to have a supportive husband. Lately, I have to remind myself of that but that's for another time!

@NewOR2015 wow, heading home. Enjoy being solo again and getting back on track! Be safe in your travels and the shopping stories are hilarious. On a similar note, when we were going through dementia with my grandmother, my mom tells this story. 10:00pm one night my mom gets a call "Someone has stolen my new panties. You have to talk to the administrator (She was living in an assisted living at the time) and make them go through everyone's drawers and find my panties." Well, then after calming her down some and getting to sleep, the phone rings about midnight and my grandfather says, "nevermind, there is no panty theif, they were hanging to dry on the shower rod". You gotta laugh, don't you!

@CaptainBoing so glad you enjoyed the gym and the class. Love that your rehab friend finds your zeal quite entertaining. I had a trainer for a bit who seemed to laugh at/with me much of the time.

@JanolaBarbara so, how was the apple pie? Sounds devine. We had a patient start today who moved here from the PNW and she was talking about how she misses the weather and scenery. Sounds like a great place.

Going to dinner tonight with some girlfriends. Hoping to stay true to my goal of eating right and imbibing in only one beer.....

I saw the post of you driving and it made me laugh. My daughter and her boyfriend borrowed his fathers vehicle and drove for hours with no reception and only one cd Mama Mia only to switch into my car and they turn on the radio and I have the cd Mama Mia in it. LOL My daughter goes her boyfriend freaked out and said OMG WTH is wrong with our parents She laughed and said I do believe mom leaves one of my cd's in the glove compartment. It is one of my favorite cd's to drive with though. B)

Howdy gang! Even though I'm retired, I am still so busy! What with housekeeping, cooking, exercising, socialising, etc. the days just fly by! Went to our local Stitch and Pitch event at Safeco field. Basically, there's a section of cheap seats where all us knitters, crocheters, tatters, etc can sit, knit (or whatever) and watch the ballgame. They had a lot of awesome fiber arts vendors, too. I am so proud of myself because I did not have any alcohol, but I did have garlic fries which I shared and did not finish!!

@blitzbis -- I finally got around to making the pie today. Actually, I made the crust yesterday and made the apple stuffing today. Basically, is a two-day project, but it's my gift to my hubby for our wedding anniversary. :-) I got the apples from our neighbor's tree, so I'm looking forward to it. It smells great right now. However, it's full of dairy so I'll probably let myself have one bite. I'm glad you had a good time at your 10k. I love how positive everyone is on race day. Hope you had a nice dinner with your friends.

@NewOR2015 -- Home again! Have a safe trip. Hope you are able to regain control. :-)

@CaptainBoing -- Wow! You are so active!! Glad you are fearless and try so many new things. You're right-- you never know if you like something until you try it. ooOOoo... Wolverine is also my fav X-men. ;-)

@2020pinktogo --Ha! I bet every kid has said that about their parents at one time or another. Glad you can laugh at it!

I'm home! Refrigerator is empty. I'm walking to the store in the morning to stock up on some healthy food. And I took a 30 minute walk today to get a head start on tomorrow's fresh start.

I think I've been living under a rock...I have no idea who Wolverine is and what Mama Mia is. I take my long drives in complete silence when I'm alone and have little conversation when I'm with others. I enjoy just driving the endless highways and seeing the scenery especially when you can see miles and miles far away in just a glance. Texas is big. :)
