@1skholloway what kind of nonprofit and what kind of stuff do they look for?

I'm sure if you all haven't noticed I am one of those people who is constantly moving and got a hand in everything at work. So if I know of a group that is considered a 501c group and we have things that need to be donated I make a call and donate. I have a roll a deck with numbers and I call churches and meals on wheels and I listen and then when we have stuff off it goes. Like meals on wheels the seniors love to have their desserts decorated and in pretty wrappers so when we have sprinkles and candy and cupcake wrappers that are ready to go off it goes to them. the same when it comes to packaging that comes in that no dept can use I donate it to them for packaging. One church has a thrift store so all our seasonal stuff goes to them. Another needs books. But you would be amazed at what stuff I have as a grocery store sells everything and some things get toted and are in the racks for years. I let the managers know who could use what and when they get stuff they call me and I get it donated.

When I first lost all my weight, I got rid of my big clothes. It felt great! I have slowly gained weight over the years and so have had to buy larger clothes again (but not as big as I used to wear). I am very slowly losing weight now. I am so happy that I still fit into last year's summer clothes, and that some of them fit me better than last year!!

I aggravated my knee again. I have a chronically bad knee. I am seeing the dr about it on Monday. In the past I was told that my quads were too strong and would pull my patella out of socket, causing pain and inflammation. I just want to be sure that is what is really happening. Hubby and I want to go to South America this winter and I would love-love-love to go trekking in Patagonia!

@2020pinktogo You are amazing! I am sure there are plenty of people who appreciate what you do.

@JanolaBarbara I have never been very active. I started walking for exercise last November but never overdo it. The minute I feel any kind of pain, I stop. I don't dare risk hurting myself. Plus, I don't like to take any kind of medicine. I hope your knee starts feeling better so that you can go on your trip and trek all you want.

@NewOR2015 -- Yeah, I didn't start being active on a regular basis until I was in my 30s. I'd had this knee thing for years. For the last 1 1/2 years I've been trying to strengthen my hamstrings and glutes without doing squats. This has helped my knee a lot, and I definitely feel a difference. I guess sometimes I forget about my knee and overdo it a little. It feels so much better today, almost normal.

@1skholloway -- So many non-profits do so much good. Glad you are making a difference with your work.

Good morning y'all, I work for the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home and Family Ministry (LBCH). We have been in operation since 1899. I have had the privilege of working for the organization for 7 years. My full-time job is a secretary and I send out receipts for donations and honor and memorial acknowledgments. My part-time job is the birthday and Christmas gift for our residents. I do very little actual shopping for gifts. :'( New gifts are donated at Christmas and I am able to use those year round for Christmas and birthday gifts. I started doing that job just a few months after I started working at LBCH. It gets very hectic at Christmas because it's the busy time for both jobs.

@2020pinktogo our web address is http://lbch.org/. There is a solid dark blue line with menu options near the top of the page. In the middle of that line is the option "Ways to Help." If you press the down arrow head, three columns appear and many ways to help appear - from shopping and having a proceed of your sale going to us to estate planning. The first option under the middle column "How You Can Help..." has 3 lists of things we can use including food dry goods, school supplies, and what we call practical needs.

We have 5 homes that have private placed and foster children, 1 home for residents that are aged 18 and in high school and college, and 3 homes for homeless children and their mothers. We try to make the homes as much like a regular home as possible.

When donating things, people forget that our homes need everyday things just like they use at home. We are very blessed that we are 100% privately funded and we plan to keep it that way. We find that donors are more generous around the holidays.

We appreciate all donations. As the person who has sorted donations, may I make suggestions for when donations are made to any organization. (1) Ask what an organization's needs are, don't just tell the organization what you want to do. (2) Don't donate your cast offs. If an item isn't good enough for you to use, don't donate it. (3) Don't be offended if your donation of material things is turned down. The organization is being a good steward of your donation so that it can go to the best place it can be used.

We must be having fun because time is flying by and "Time flies when you're having fun." I can't believe it's going to be August 2016 already!
