Very nice, Snoozie! I almost didn’t send cards this year but I so enjoy getting them that I had to do it. I feel like we’re losing those traditions that I grew up with and this is one thing I can do to try to keep them alive. I’m not really into the whole gift thing. We buy for our two kids and that’s about it, unless I see something that just screams “buy me for _____!” This year I ended up making something for both kids. I (finally) finished my daughter’s wedding scrapbook and I put together two big framed displays of my son’s backstage passes for tours he’s worked on. So we got off pretty inexpensive!!! Yay!!!
We’ve still got some snow on the ground here in Atlanta from last Friday!!! That’s how cold it’s been here. We really aren’t used to this type of weather.....as evidenced by my becoming a hermit to avoid the cold!! My hubby is off work for four days so we’re going downtown today. We’re going to the Kristkindle market then dinner then the Christmas lights at the botanical gardens. It’s supposed to be in the mid forties so that’s not too bad. Im really excited! Maybe it will inspire me to put up a small tree (still haven’t done that).
Meanwhile....Vailara and Milove are doing great and I’m finding what they’re losing! Vailara, I hope you’re feeling better!0 -
I love your Christmas tree , Snoozie. That's the height I usually have sitting on my dinner table, but this year with the new G-baby ,age 5, we had to size up so Santa would have some where to drop off the goodies. I think blue is a strange color for Christmas, also, but it is my husbands favorite color on a tree. We have had blue Christmas trees many years.
Suzy, I hate!! wrapping gifts. They always look out of shape. I have no patience. I was so excited when they started having gift bags. That is sooooo my speed. But I adore the look of a beautiful wrapped gift. Some people have such a knack for wrapping. I know you will have a great time in KC.
Milove, Have a great time in Montreal. I can relate to having no place for family and Christmas celebrating.
I am struggling right beside you all. I have gone up quite a few lbs since resetting my ticker, trying to hold off on resetting and just going with a new ticker weight in January. I think it will be a bit easier for me when DNL goes off to boot camp. I find myself buying and cooking things we usually wouldn't have.
Susan, sending out {{{{{hugs}}}}}
Vailara, hope you are feeling better. I ,too , am trying to get over the yuck again.
Carol, best wishes to you!
SNOW!! We got snow last week. It was so pretty! Around 4 - 5 inches, which is a blizzard in Mississippi. The G-baby absolutely loved it. I think it was her first time to see it in person. They got to make a snowman. She was so excited, she kept running in for buttons, a nose and eyes for her snowman. She had a blast.. I told them that next time it snows close to Christmas we are celebrating that day as the day Santa comes...even if we don't have gifts yet. lol The gifts can just come on the actual day.
Merry Christmas to us all!

Thank you all for asking after me! Yes, I'm better-ish now ... was out of action for a week, and I think I then went back to work too early as absolutely knackered now. So I'm only just checking in now and catching up.
On the bright side, I lost 7lb as I wasn't managing to eat much! I've gained back 2lb over the last week, so still an overall loss. However I completely blew it last night - I had to work late, and was tired and in an office on my own with cakes and buns. I ended up indulging and then couldn't be bothered to cook when I got home and had fish and chips delivered! Of course, I'm not supposed to have any wheat on this diet, and the only thing that was legit was the chips (fries). I did feel guilty about it, but of course we know that guilt isn't a helpful emotion, so I'm not going to stress, and will put it down to craving some easy calories after two weeks of not eating much.
We've had snow here too, but it has been a bit pathetic compared to what I was used to as a child! I'm glad your grand-daughter enjoyed it! It's so exciting for little kids! Great idea to bring Christmas forward if it happens again!
I haven't got in the Christmas spirit what with missing the first couple of weeks of December. I still have everything to do, and haven't even thought of decorations - I can't have a tree because my cat would eat it. So that's you and me both, Suzy! However, the city here is very Christmassy, so I might just go for a wander round down and let them do all the work of creating the atmosphere!
Milove, congratulations on the weight loss, and have a lovely time in Montreal! That's a place I would love to visit.
Have a lovely holiday season, everybody, and stay safe and warm .3 -

Ha ha! Although I think when I fall off, I'm still trying to convince myself that I haven't really, and am running along half-heartedly behind it!1
-
And while it was on fire I roasted marshmallows and made s’mores.
I hope you’re all doing a better job of meeting your year end goals than I am!1 -
lol suzy.... not likely here!! and no matter what the scale says by year's end.. we are ALL definitely healthier than we were when we first came to MFP right??
Wishing everyone in the group good times with friends and family over the holidays, and many happy moments and memories!2 -
Thank you Snoozie! Same to you! Let’s make 2018 OUR year!!!1
-
That message board is just right for me. : )
I tried to cut back to help DNL not feel alone while trying to lose weight to make it to Basic training ....and I am gaining!...must be water weight.
Gonna' give it a few more days before deciding if I need to quit cutting back , so as to not gain anymore. lol
Merry Christmas to you all! I Believe!! ... and in case you don't participate in Christmas..... have Happy Holidays!
Yes, I feel we are all a better, healthier version of our former selves... Bring it on, 2018!!!-1 -
Oh no! I've gained while cutting back too! How does that work? Lol! I got a headstart with the flu this year, but have gained back most of the seven pounds I lost - I suppose it was only water weight anyway! I'm finding it harder than expected actually this year. But still trying to keep in control.
Best wishes to all of you!1 -
Are you all like me and view the WOO as Woohoo! type of a thing? Some on the outer web view it as woo (an untruth or unbelievable). I found that out after woo -ing someone's post...luckily they didn't know me. lol
edited to add:
I forgot, What I originally wanted to say , It was: I like the hug feature! lol
Merry Christmas!!

I never even saw the hug thing til I read your post Gail!! So I hugged ya LOL
umm.. as far as the woo? I always thought of it as a "woo hoo yay" kind of thing.. so when I've used it on some of your posts, that's what I meant it to be.. and will continue to use it as such lol
my friend had her surgery today for the anyeurism in her carotid artery and came through the surgery just fine... I'm just home from the hospital and so grateful and happy. still a bit of a road ahead but the worst is behind her now thankfully.. so wishing EVERYONE a happy and healthy holiday season... with a HUG all around! and a WOO!2 -
I keep forgetting that there are those buttons at the bottom of posts! I would have thought that "Woo" meant "woohoo!" too. It's only now that you mentioned it and I look carefully that I can see it has a little non-smiling face next to it.0
-
oh well crud I never even noticed the face next to it!! I think we should all ignore the face and just keep using the woo as we intended it originally LOL1
-
I think you are right , Snoozie, we will use it as woohoo!! Truthfully, I couldn't tell it had no smile until you mentioned it, Vail. lol
Excellent news on your friend's successful surgery, Snooze. She will feel like brand new now....That's how my Uncle said it was for him.
I thought I had lost a pound, but I was mistaken....especially after today's Christmas party. There was so much homemade goodies, and I tried to eat a small bit of it all!!
No worries, 2018 will be here soon. A fresh new start!
I hope Santa is good to you all!!

Hi Hatters!!
I also hope everyone had a nice Christmas Day - look forward to hearing some stories about the travels and celebrations from all!
I had a lovely Christmas - skyped with my sister xmas eve and opened our little prezzies to each other together; went to work and it was a nice quiet nite and lots of goodies AND it was our last one so cause for celebration aone ha... then; came home xmas morning and slept for a few hours then helped served Christmas dinner at a local church from 11-2, then back home, jammied up in my xmas jammies, lit my tree opened my prezzies and had bacon and eggs for my Christmas dinner LOL.. and a chocolate bar!! Ha! Then grazed on goodies all night watching Christmas movies! We had a huge snowfall overnight and it was actually a perfect Chrismtas day for the little ones - tons of snow and sunny - I can see a lot of snowmen outside my window LOL.. I saved my turkey to make today once i'm back on a normal sched, but the bacon and eggs were excellent for a nite shift supper! Fortunately most of the goodies are gone from my home now... yes into my tummy! And i'm fine with it - no guilt no nothing except enjoyment of it all... I did hop on the scale this morning tho just to get my head back in the game; there's definitely evidence of the Christmas indulgence there but I enjoyed it all so in a happy place! I still plan to make my goal of weighing less on the 1st of the new year than I did on the 1st of this year.. it may only be by a few ounces but I will make it happen!! it's veryyyyy cold here right now so I may have to burn some calories off at home rather than the lake, but i'll find something to do
Merry Christmas to all the Hatters, and a happy and healthy 2018 coming up for all of us!2 -
It's lovely reading about your slightly alternative celebrations (bacon and eggs! Sounds lovely! I hope you enjoyed the turkey yesterday too). Christmas in my house is usually just me and my son. Christmas dinner wasn't conventional either as we had steak from a usually reliable local butcher, but on the day it smelt odd, so I chucked it just to be safe. I made a Japanese-style dish with some ham and eggs that were in the fridge, and it was very nice, if not very Christmasy! I had bought in desert from a local Japanese cafe (yes, I could have made something, but I like to be lazy on Christmas day!).
I have been indulging a bit, but having flu earlier in the month gave me a weight loss boost - lol! And although I've regained most of it, I'm still in credit. There have been various social eating events in the lead up to Christmas, but I've actually been kept on track by this FODMAP diet - a lot of the things at buffets and so on are off limits. I'm also finding intermittent fasting is helping too - I can just miss out some meals. I still need to get my exercise sorted out after having flu - I haven't felt fit enough for the gym classes, so have just been walking. I will have to try to build up to it with home workouts, I think.
Good luck with your goal, Snooozie! I'm 3lb heavier than I was this time last year, so I'm not going to make it by January 1st, but it could be worse! I might try standing on the scales with just one foot and see if that helps!
All the best for 2018 to all of you!1 -
Vail it was probably a very smart move throwing out the meat - and your dinner sounded yummy too! And huge congrats on sticking with the food map program ! I indulged a bit too much over the holidays so I may only skimp by an ounce or two less than the start of the year - but really it's immaterial whether i am lower then last year in the end as I have decided I will be back to my goal weight by June 2018.0

I did a long post and lost it all because I'm having to use my phone and it cuts off replies on boxing day the 26th I made my Christmas dinner put a nice glass of wine on the coffee table andmoved the laptop off a small side table so I could eat there when I brought my plate in I knocked over the wine glass all over my laptop and fried it lolol. That was one expensive glass of wine in the end! Anyway I'll keep it brief for now and just say I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone wants for themselves in regards to our weight and overall health for 2018!0
-
Oh no! Snoozie I’m so sorry your laptop took a wine bath! Ending the year down (even a little bit) is a win. Unfortunately I totally blew it and will end my year heavier. I was unable (or is that unwilling?) to stick to my guns and not overindulge on our trip for Christmas. We had a wonderful time with my husband’s family. We always do!
Anyway.... 2018 is going to be my get healthy year! I’m resetting my ticker and reviewing my goals. I’ll be 57 in June and I’d really like to be about 30 pounds lighter by then. Overall I’d like to lose 50 pounds this year. I know that’s an aggressive goal but I’m tired of ending every year heavier than I planned. Time to bring out my detailed goals and make a plan!
We have no plans for New Year’s Eve...thank goodness! I’m cleaning out the fridge and cupboards and throwing out all the leftover Christmas goodies, making my grocery list and getting some veggies and lean protein.
Happy New Year everyone! 2018 is going to be epic!!!1
