Maryanne--Love them all but the jealous pets link is hilarious.

Helene--There is nothing like a haircut to gie iyou a lift.

I'm tired from work plus the fact Midnight got me up three times last night. I hope he isn't getting ill or in pain.

Jean - I hope MIdnight is okay!!

Our Jessicat has had a few strange episodes lately. Combined with some weight loss and slightly worsening lab work at her last oncologist visit I'm thinking she may be starting on the downslide. She has an oncology appointment tomorrow. I'm guessing they will decide to change her chemo protocol. I took Jack to see the regular vet yesterday. His breathing is awful. She's going to call the internist and see if they want to change his meds. I also made an appointment for him to see a surgeon. DH doesn't even want to think about surgery but I couldn't live with myself if I euthanized him because DH was squeamish about surgery. All in all not the happiest Christmas in history.

Pet proofing the Christmas tree - some of these I've considered over the years - couple never even crossed me mind: http://cheezburger.com/4164101/20-hilarious-times-people-pet-proofed-their-christmas-tree

I love the tree wrapped from top to bottom in plastic wrap! Also the one on top of the refrigerator, although I have known some determined kitties that could climb to the top of the refrigerator.

We've never had a cat on top of the microwave. I used to keep it clear and I had a Halloween and a Christmas scene that I'd put up there. DH - aka borderline hoarder - now has it covered. Those displays haven't been out of the box in a few years. LOL!

Coming soon in January: veggie spirals

GAME-CHANGER! Green Giant has a new line of frozen Veggie Spirals coming this January… and here’s a sneak peek! They’re SUPER CONVENIENT: Just stash ‘em in your freezer. No prep, no cleanup! They’re 100% vegetables and have 65-90% FEWER CARBS than regular pasta. All 4 varieties are AMAZING: butternut squash, zucchini, beets & carrot!

Yes dynamo is a good name for my sister. She's having us for dinner again tonight. She's driving a friend to Charleston tomorrow for an early Friday surgery on her arm. They'll stay overnight with a Charleston friend because the surgery is 6 AM and the drive is at least 100 miles. We won't have a chance to spend time together after tonight unless she come down to FL for a visit. We're leaving for FL Friday because it's supposed to be a nice sunny day. Thursday's prediction is for rain and that's a miserable ride to do in bad weather. We have the flexibility to travel on good day only.

Maryanne, like you, I would get Jack the surgery, if it would help him.

Pam, how is your neighbor doing in his recovery? You haven't mentioned him in a while.

Both of my neighbors are doing well, Helene. The pilot who fell while on a layover in Spain and fractured his skull is pretty much fully recovered, although forced into an early retirement. Due to seizures he suffered during his recovery, he can no longer fly, which was a devastating blow for him. This is a man who genuinely loved to fly and loved his job, so that has been and continues to be, quite an adjustment for him. His wife tells me that there have been some personality changes as well and I suspect that there is some strain in the marriage as a result, but I’m hopeful they will be able to work through it.

My other neighbor is the young man who was found to have testicular cancer last spring. He had a very rough summer while recovering from a surgery to remove several tumors lodged in his torso behind various organs. He did not have to have chemo or radiation, but was on a severely restricted diet as well as IV nutrition for months. We saw him at a reception last month for another neighbor’s son who was recently married and he looked great! He is able to eat normally again, and is hoping to return to college in January. His father is also a pilot and has been based in Atlanta for all of these years since Delta closed its hub at D/FW. The family chose not to move due to schools and ties here in the community, so his dad commuted to Atlanta for every flight. Now that all of the kids are launched, married or in college, his parents are planning to move to Atlanta at the start of the new year. I’ll be sad to lose them as they, like us, were original residents of our neighborhood and have been good neighbors to us.

I’m mostly recovered from my cold now. Fortunately this one didn’t stick around very long, although I was pretty miserable for 3-4 days. I’m glad it’s gone because I have things to do! Tonight my friend and I are cohosting a jewelry party. A friend’s daughter and her best friend started a company about a year ago making earrings from leather. They are very unique and inexpensive. My friend and I decided to have a party to introduce their products to some of our friends, and that is tonight. I told my friend I would provide the food if she would have the party in her home, so I’ve been busy prepping everything. I got all but one item done yesterday, and the one I’m making today should go together pretty quickly, I think. It won’t be a big group, unfortunately, since there are several competing events tonight, but I’m sure it will be fun.

That's good news about both of your neighbors' recoveries. I'm sure the pilot must have some depression issues over losing his career and the ability to fly. I hope he and his wife can work out any tensions, After all they've been through, they deserve happiness. That's nice the young man is doing s well too. I'm glad your cold has moved out so you can enjoy the holidays. How kind of you and your friend to do the jewelry party for the young entrepreneurs. We had planned to leave for FL tomorrow but the weather is cold and rainy. I just canceled my hotel reservation and rebooked for Sunday. We're in no hurry so it didn't make sense to drive through 2 days of rain when we could wait for the sun to come back. It will make for a much more pleasant trip.

Jean - as much as I love spaghetti, I probably should give those Green Giant items a try. The largest local grocery store has fresh versions of those which I've never tried. Shame on me. LOL!

Pam - I'm glad your neighbors are recovering but I'm sad for the pilot who had to retire. I'm sure that would create tensions at home.

Helene - I suspect your rain is coming this way as snow. Apparently we're having snow tomorrow. Oh, joy!

DH insisted on having a plumber come yesterday even though he admitted it wasn't an emergency. I suspect he's bored. I wish he'd find something to give his semi retirement meaning. Heck, I'd settle for him starting to declutter.

It's always a hassle having a workman here because of the cats.

Because we're supposedly having snow today I went out late to do a round of adding bowls at colonies and filling everything to the brim so they'd go into today with full bellies hopefully.

Marylanders are just plain nuts about snow. Predict 1-3 inches and you'd think a blizzard was coming!

I'm going to make a pot of chili today, do the laundry and try to figure out something for work that's WAY out of my usual area of expertise. And of course the boss promised a maximum number of hours. That just means what I get paid will be limited; not how long it will take me to figure it out.

I've been buying thank you cards on ebay for CROM. They are really nice but a little pricey. Just stumbled on some on amazon that are much more reasonable and have great reviews. Ordered some to try.

Maryanne, this made me think of your description of Marylanders’ response to the weather forecast. It’s true here in Texas, as well!

It was 25 this morning when I realized I had not brought Midnight's Fancy Feast in from the car on the shopping trip and he was insistent I go get it as the dry food wasn't appealing to him. We have a forecast of some snow but I haven't heard the update. As long as I'm not leaving the house, it doesn't make much difference.

The cycle and I are getting along well. I had set a goal of 5 days of 30 minutes each day for this week which has been met.

I'm thinking of switching to the NS Advantage a la carte program and called to inquire about it. I just got an email that they had cancelled my current program.

That is SO Maryland! Hilarious! I've learned not to try to go to the grocery store if there's even a hint of snow in the forecast. Do people not keep toilet paper in their houses? They can't live a day or two without milk and bread if they don't have a day or two on hand (and seriously do that many people not have a day or two of bread and milk on hand?) We've been her since 1980 and the longest we've ever been snowed in is a 3 days and I think that's happened twice. In 37 years.

We have this local website thingie called Nextdoor. Don 't know if it's national. Someone posted this long list of tips that were posted by the powers that be. Instructions for disaster prep almost. Seriously, we're getting a dusting. Geesh!

Jean - I've been taking a can of Fancy Feast to the one cat who's left at Pep Boys because I feel so bad for him. Made the mistake of leaving it in the van one night. Not a good idea.

I'm glad you and the exercise cycle are getting along so well! That's fantastic!

We have Nextdoor here as well. Some of the postings are quite helpful, some not so much. It’s been a good resource for me when I’m looking for recommendations for various things like jewelry repair, specialist mds, restaurants, etc.
