I wasn't expecting much this week but have to say I'm pleased at the loss.
I didn't fast this week, and was out of town for a couple days and missed two runs.
I also ate out a few times and slightly indulged myself.
So while I wasn't expecting to lose, midweek I started noticing the unmistakable sign that I was losing weight,
frequent urination over several days. I have no doubt of the correlation now as it has happened to me over and over.

Another sign of progress is that I've had to lengthen my Sunday run again in order to keep it at 2 hours. When I started a few months ago I don't think I was even doing 8 miles in 2 hours, now I'm pushing 10 miles, meaning that my pace is picking up.

Its now been a full year since I started on this journey. 172 pounds later and I'm so thankful for this new lifestyle I have. I'm also thankful to everyone here that sends encouragement. I meant what I said above that in some way I am inspired by everyone who posts their stories here.

Technically today I weighed in just below my goal of 180 lbs. I'll give it a few more weeks before I say that I've hit that goal however. I'd like to at least come to the point where the majority of daily weigh ins over the span of a week are under that mark, not just one day. I'm doing a 72 hour fast this coming week. That normally brings a 2-3 pound loss so we'll see.

My updated weight loss graph for those who like data. You can see I had a whoosh in early August and then a bit of a slowdown since then.

Wow phenomenal! I'm so excited to see this can be done. May I ask if you eat from all food groups during you OMAD? Have the fasts aided in your mental determination? Like Brenda, Arguablysam ...you guys have a really great handle staying steady and continuing forward. Thanks for all the insight B)

I eat vegetables, dairy, meat, and fruit almost exclusively. Almost never have any grains or foods with added sugar of any kind. I try to focus on foods with low caloric/high nutrient density.

Great, thank you.... the way we were meant to eat. I'm still in the OMAD honeymoon phase but my mind knows what it should be doing. Thanks again & hope you have a great day.

Your graph is pretty amazing! Even though you say you've had a bit of a slowdown since your whoosh, the slope of the line is fairly consistent. Though, it does make sense that weight loss slows down a bit as you get closer to your ideal weight.

172 lbs is such a major accomplishment, you must be so happy!! You have lost almost a whole one of me (I weigh about 177 today)!!

I get a reality check when I think my suitcase is too heavy for the weight restriction. Then I'm shocked that it's only 45 pounds when I weigh it. Then....I think OMG I need to lose 60 pounds and that's so much more than the suitcase I'm trying to pick up. I can't believe the weight we can carry on our bodies when we have a hard time trying to lift less than what we need to lose. Isn't it amazing that we walk around pretty effortlessly? It really is a pretty dramatic reality for me.

I had to carry a bucket of sand a fair distance today (long story involving a plant that Darcy stole from the beach that needed some sand and Darcy deciding to steal the sand from this place by a creek on our walk so he brought a bucket and he always runs the last 500m of our walk so I had to carry the stupid bucket of sand for those last 500m) and man, carrying that thing was a killer, I think it was only about 9-10 kgs. I thought the same thing - I need to lose so much more weight than this weighs - all that extra fat must put such a strain on my poor body!!

I think the body adapts to the weight shift. When I was 350 I carried more muscle in order to be able to walk up stairs etc. Losing so much weight has meant losing some of those now unnecessary muscles.
If I had to carry a 170 lb person on my back now I couldn't make it up one stair let alone several flights. lol
Before I would be totally out of breath after climbing a flight of stairs and it would take me a minute or so to catch my breath and for the pulse to stop racing. Thanks to my running and lower weight I can now zoom up the stairs should I choose to and catch my breath in seconds.

It's crazy how well the body does adapt... Probably be a lot better if it DIDN'T adapt so well - like if you went over that obese line and it just refused to move anymore! We'd all be like - whoa, maybe I'd better do something NOW instead of letting it get out of hand!

Your strength/weight ratio has improved a lot. That is what is important. You may have lost some muscle but you can do a lot more with your body weight now like run, climb stairs, etc.. Congrats on that, you have really done something special! You and Joe both.

Thanks Bob. No doubt that I can do more now, it's like night and day.
I bought a body composition device, essentially a fancy scale. Playing around with it now and will post some details tomorrow.

How does a scale measure body fat? I mean I have loose skin so how does it know the difference?

    Brenda,
It's called bioelectrical impedance, it sends an electric current through your hands and feet and makes a calculation based on the fact that different tissues conduct electricity at different rates. I chose it because it's automatic and does not rely on my measurements and it's relatively inexpensive. Whether or not it gives an absolutely accurate number is less important to me than tracking the data over time to see how it changes, and I can minimize variation by always taking the readings at the same time of day, right after I wake up and weigh in.
I have to say it's pretty cool.

So helpful to have tools that give us a clearer picture of what's really going on in the body.

Nope it's the Omron 514C, see picture below. Was pleased that as far as weight goes it was within a half pound of the scale I had been using.

    53.............175.8 .........-3.7............-176.2...........-4.2 (184 high)

Well I'm going to say now that I've hit my goal, as 5 of the last 8 days I've weighed below the goal weight of 180.
This week was a big loss, I'm not too surprised because I could feel it coming on last week, and timing was perfect.
Another very satifying milestone has been hit, notice that my current weight this morning is LESS than the amount I've lost! That means I'm half the size I used to be. This also rolls back the clock 40 years for me as I've not weighed in the 170's since high school.
I'm not ready to go to maintenance, what I'm planning is a phase 2 - transition to maintenance which will hopefully end by the end of the year. I'll post something on that later.

Here are my stat's according to my new toy
Weight 175.8 (old scale gave the exact same result! nice)
Body Mass Index 23.2 (normal 18.4 to 24.9)
Body Fat Percentage 18.8 (normal 11 to 21.9)
Skeletal Muscle Percentage 36.3 (normal 33.1 to 39.1)
Visceral Fat level 6 (normal <=9)
    Resting Metabolism 1668

I think my primary goals for phase 2 will be to improve on BMI and Body fat %
But I have to say I'm pretty happy to be in the normal range on all metrics.
Last time I checked I was still in the overweight range in some areas.

Very nice! 1/2 the size is amazing! Your new toy looks like fun. %bf I think really is our ultimate goal (to have a good percentage) and also to have a descent amount of muscle (not too much or too little). Good luck. Will be interested to hear about your future plans.
