Runners that need some nutritional accountability

I am eating whatever I can find in my cabinets... I was in desperate need of a real town shopping trip... but instead we have 6-10 inches of snow in progress. Real town is 30 miles away, and I’m too stubborn to defrost the car to buy marked up groceries that aren’t what I actually want. And I’m trying to be stubborn enough to not defrost car to go to a restaurant.
I have been trying very hard to not go back to my food hoarding ways, because it’s expensive to have it all expire, but weeks like this make me wish I had a fuller pantry.1 -
I am making bacon and eggs for breakfast. DH wanted to go for doughnuts again or to a local Cuban bakery and I said No - no more... I haven't been eating them so he does 😫
Looking at my food diary I really need to get a handle on fat calories - I am consistently over even if well under my total goal - I need to be using those calories better, like for protein.
So lunch will be a salad and dinner... well I dunno. DH will want pizza because we are watching football tonight (college conference championship). I am thinking chicken in the IP and fresh veggies, probably broccoli.
I will be going to the grocery store - need veggies. Also need cookie baking ingredients so I can get them packed up and shipped off to family next week.0 -
Yesterday was OK. I kept to plan until after supper, when dw and I went out to a local bar. I wasn't driving so I had three bourbons. Came home with the munchies, so ate cheese and crackers. And did whipped cream shots straight from the can. I was probably close to maintenance. We were going to get half price apps but the menu listed calories and what I want was 1650 calories!! No way! So I'm happy to have resisted.
This morning was eggs with onions, feta and butt bacon (yes it's a thing and it's awesome! It might go well with pocket nuts).
Later this afternoon we're taking my mom out for her birthday. She's 85 today! She has dementia so I'm not really looking forward to it in general but I know it will make her happy so it will be worth it.2 -

Texas/ Ou? Root for Texas!!!!! I like pizza but it sure gets old. And I absolutely love settling in with an endless bowl of good for you, feel good foods. I want cacciatore and to watch " 'Allo 'allo" again because it was such a cosy combination!0 -

Haha! Butt bacon! I think I've heard of it... We dont have any butt labled meat here butt sure in Delaware they sold pork butt. Or maybe it was Georgia... Its just not labled like that here. I never heard of pork butt until my kids watched "cow and chicken". Horrible cartoon.
Enjoy your mum! Just enjoy the moments she she has. I hope today she has a good day.1 -

If i dont shop, i give into the crap dh has brought in... Brownie mix, chocolate in the freezer, just prowling like an animal in the kitchen.
Can you do some canned food for such situations? I know you're not getting out, i totally understand that. If you do though, may the force of disapline and good choices be with you! Be safe!0 -
MFP says I was under 1200 net calories yesterday but Garmin is a bit generous with adding back. Still, I think I was good for the day.
Today has started with peanut butter toast, an apple, and coffee. Now off to get pictures with Santa and then groceries on the way home. All we have in the fridge is some peppers and 2 packages of tofu.1 -
@7lenny7 - Isn't it amazing how many calories are in restaurant/bar food?! I wonder how much it deters people in general or if most just order it anyway. I hope you have a good day with your mom, more that she is having a good day and enjoys it so you can as well!
@Elise4270 - DH is waiting for the UCF game to come on and we will watch the BSU/Fresno game later. It is a repeat of the game we went to a few weeks back in Boise. If BSU beats Fresno and UCF loses Boise has a chance to go to the Fiesta Bowl again... we'll see. I'm sorry but it looks like OU is taking advantage of Texas by a lot.... Maybe Texas can make a comeback?
I can't eat pizza, although I do order a veggie flatbread once in a while but it gets old and isn't really what I want (I want the one with all the good crap on it). So I usually end up with a big salad and make some chicken to put on top of it - not nearly as fun as pizza but it doesn't make me sick so there is that...

NUTRITION. (anyone watch Fiddler on the Roof?) NUTRITION! ....if i were a rich (wo)man... This time of year i really long for my Jewish roots. I'm so lost. We have zero Jewish community here. I tried to raise my kids Jewish, sure easy in Delaware. Ardmore Oklahoma? No chance. Ah what a cruel universe...
Anyway!
What proper nutritional choices are you making today? How about tomorrow or the rest of the week?
My plans? I want soup. Tortilla soup. No chance of matzo ball soup here... Or gefilte fish. Suppose i could bake a chicken.... Oy what a mess. Its like I'm lost in the desert all alone again!
Be a mensch!

I LOVE Fiddler on the Roof! I used to listen to the music and watched it over and over again. Would have loved to see it live in NYC.
Could you try making matzo ball soup at home? Even if they don't have the flour there you could probably find it on Amazon.
I never got to the grocery store yesterday. Have to go today... I did fix chicken in the IP with veggies and baked sweet potatoes for dinner. It was pretty yummy.
The only thing I have planned is to make some spaghetti sauce. I have ground turkey thawing and just need to pick up sweet Italian sausage and an onion for it when I go today...1 -
I ate pie today. It was horrible pie. I had the tortilla soup. Layed around all day watching "Killing Eve" now I shoul get a tm run, see if my knee will tolerate it. Dang thing pops when i run or walk sometimes.
I could order matzo meal... Wonder if the cohabitance will eat it? Good call Shana!!!
Oh UPS is going to deliver my noise canceling Bluetooth headphones any second now.... I wonder if i can tm with them...0 -
Chocolates today. I really need to stop self-sabotaging.1

I'm an introvert. Now I'm an introvert with head phones. It's heavenly.3

So @Elise4270, I want you to turn on your TV or other music and see if you can still hear it with your headphones in? If not, I want to know what brand/model they are.
Tonight I did go shopping, well partially. I still didn't get to the grocery store but did go to Trader Joes and Sprouts. Tomorrow I will get the rest of the shopping done. Tonight was BJs and while DH got a huge pizza I got a salad and a flatbread pizza. I was good on calories and under on fat! Success! Sodium was a little over though.0 -

They are noise canceling. I dont hear the TM, the tv, dh talking or anything if music is playing. But without music and just the ANC on, i can hear him talk although its muted some. I definitely cant hear the background noise. I got cheaper ones. I bet nicer ones might be even better. I have a coworker with some, I'm going to ask him about his for comparison.
These are the ones i got.

I'm off to a slow start today. Not awake. Think this tom headache is finally behind me. Now in to the abyss.0 -
Thanks @elise4270 - I have Jaybird wireless that are really nice and I love them when I run outside. They block just enough noise but I can still hears sounds around me which is good when on the trail but not great in the gym. Note after I complained at the gym last week they have turned their music down and kept it down.
My day went totally haywire today and I didn't get to the gym for cardio or anything else for that matter. I do have agility tonight with the pup so at least I will be moving a bit. We went to get my cracked phone screen fixed and amazingly the guy found it was the screen protector that was cracked and not my screen at all - score! Then we went to Home Depot and Costco and my foot was killing me so I just took some Aleve and vegged out the rest of the afternoon. I ate well for breakfast but had flatbread pizza leftovers for lunch. Not sure what dinner will be but I am not particularly hungry so may wait until after class and have a snack then.
Do you guys ever wake up in the middle of the night hungry? I never have before but I did last night and I felt like was starving and my stomach was growling (so weird because I ate a lot for dinner). I didn't get up to eat anything but wonder if maybe I should have - what do you do?0 -
Nothing like a bit of gastrointestinal distress to lose weight. Yesterday was miserable. I did lose 3 pounds though!3
-
@shanaber I do wake up hungry occasionally. Not usually though. If i up my mileage or cycling i do.
I went for a light lunch. Just almonds and a protein drink... No breakfast. I'm going to have to plan dinner. I need to go to Walmart. Ugh. I should do the online order thing. I just hate shopping especially during the holidays.
So... What's for dinner?0 -
-
Wow these bugs really seem to be making the rounds! I know so many who are sick or getting over being sick and I just want them all to stay away and stay home!
I do hope you feel better @7lenny7!
None of you are eating romaine lettuce are you? You can't even find it here at all.
We are having leftover IP chicken, sweet potatoes and veggies for dinner and tomorrow we are going out to a movie and dinner for my birthday. I already know I will be having steak and eating whatever else I decide I want at the time - got to do that at least once in a while! I might even have flourless chocolate cake! they have a wonderful one where we are going mmmmm....2 -
Grrrr. I know not planning and not eating enough sets me up. I was not hungry. But i decided to have a donut (dang coworkers). One donut and i realized i was hungry. I ate 3, wanted a 4th and remembered my protein shake. Gah.
Well. No need for lunch now. Upside, i suppose those 3 donuts saved me 7$.
What are you eating?0 -
I had yogurt on top of bran cereal for breakfast, currently drinking coffee.
But I'm at reception all morning and had trouble with the candy dish so unless I work out tonight, none of the gingerbread we are baking will be eaten by me today .1 -
That bug was just a one day bug. Back to normal! I'm trying to figure out what it could have been and the only thing I can think of is the butt bacon. The first piece had a weird green/gray spot so I threw it out and started with the second piece. I didn't get sick until after the second time I ate it though. I guess it doesn't matter...I'm feeling better.1
-
@7lenny7 - glad you are feeling better!
@elise4270 - I never liked donuts much at least not any that people brought into work. For me it was the home baked cookies and breads... like @sarahthes' gingerbreads! mmmmm....😋
I cycled this morning... wasn't hungry before so just had my protein bar that I have when I first get up. I had a protein coffee when I got home and part of a Starbucks scone. We went out to the movies (resisted popcorn and all candies!) and just had water ($4 ripoff for a little bottle of water!). We walked from the theater over to a favorite restaurant for a fairly early dinner - got my filet steak with bleu cheese on top with asparagus. They also brought me a Yorkshire pudding which I love! They are freshly baked and light, eggy and delicious! Oh and of course I got my flourless chocolate lava type cake to share with DH. I ended up being too full to eat much of it even though it was delicious.
Tomorrow I am making spaghetti sauce, baking cookies and have a chicken pot pie to bake for dinner.3 -
I've done fairly well these past few days, helped by the stomach bug. Last night I started letting it slip away but reigned it in before I went past maintenance.
Our company has a deal where every two weeks, on the Wednesday before payday, they bring in all manner of donuts, rolls and bagels. They also have bananas and apples for healthy types, but I know the risk of donuts would be too high, so I don't go to the room where they put them out. Thankfully it's 2 floors above me and I can't even smell them.
Another thing I'm proud of...our company is big on catering lunches for all manner of meetings. Leftover are put out in the kitchens for anyone to grab. If you were quick and motivated to eat free, you could probably find a free lunch 2 or 3 days per week. It's a rare day I take advantage of that, preferring to stick with what I bring, and sticking to plan.

@7lenny7 - that is a nice perk to save money or when you forget your lunch, if it lined up to when there were leftovers. When I had to go into the office for meetings or seminars they would typically bring in pizza or pre-made sandwiches neither of which I would eat. I think after a few people complained they started to go with letting each person order what they wanted from a restaurant that delivered. It was great cause we could get salads and other more healthy choices.1

I struggle with company food and such also. Normally, the challenge is that I eat zero carb / carnivore. When the company offers meals to all employees (the annual holiday meal is coming up in a couple weeks, for example), I just eat the meat item.
However, I also use the off season / after my last race of the year as a chance to slow or stop running and focus entirely on quickly losing excess body fat built during the year. So not only am I not eating plants right now, I'm not even eating high fat meats. We are supposed to have a potluck next week and I'm thinking about just bringing something for others and not eating anything myself. My diet consists of boneless/skinless chicken breasts, egg whites, and tuna right now. I'm not sure what to bring for an office potluck from that, so will probably just get something I wouldn't ever eat anyway.0 -
We dont have many provided meals. And like tour say @shanaber , it not usually something i eat so i usually pass. They did great at our all day training though. Had healthy options even a veggie wrap.
I had 1 donut today. We have a meeting amd i dont know when itll be (just whenever i guess), so i skipped lunch to make sure I'm available. eh. I need to sort of somehow make up for yesterday anyway.0 -
I am going to bake Christmas cookies... It is pouring rain and they just issued a flash flood warning for our area. I have strength training later and hoping the rain has mostly stopped by the time I need to leave. Hopefully I will not eat any (many) cookies. I just want to have the oven on and smell them 😊
@sarahthes - how did the gingerbread turn out?0
