@midwesterner85 as I’m sitting here eating a chicken/veggie/rice dish... could you bring something like that? And bring some chicken on the side, for you?1

Nah, if I'm going to bring something I won't eat, I'm not going to put any work into it. It will be cookies, donuts, chips, etc. that does not require any preparation on my part.
The alternative is to make it a cheat meal (still carnivore, but higher fat) and bring crock pot scrambled eggs with cheese and ham.1 -
@shanaber it was ginger crackers. For some reason the dough was really dry.
We had a gingerbread house decorating contest at work and my husband and I won with our ramshackle my little pony bakery.

My work never provides me food. Although for parties they make sure the vegetarians/vegans have something and tell me I can "just eat a salad". They never have anything that would be more than a side salad. I even tried being on the committee but they just said "we'll have a salad". Why do people think people with celiac disease just eat salads? Wtf?
Last nigth DH and I went to Island's (I think its a chain?) And I ate half an order of cheese fries and a chicken sandwich. It was like an entire day worth of calories but so worth it! And I haven't been eating much lately so it evens out for the week. Lol1 -
I thought tomorrow was dh's marathon. OMG. I'm running around packing, and stop to check his start time and the weather and see that packet pick up ends in 90 minutes and were 90+ minutes away on a good day with no traffic, not rainy in the dark and "where are we going?" And Dh isnt even home yet.
Whew. Its Sunday.
So now i gotta figure out dinner. All day i thought it be a burger or sandwich on the road... Maybe DH will get something.2 -
Weekend plans? What's on the shopping list? What situations do you plan on managing better?
Me? I love a good plan. But i can not seem to force myself to plan meals. We'll be leaving for Dallas soon, so the weekend is road food.
As holidays approach there's more junk food available at work. So i need to not be hungry and eat it. I need to plan something better. Chick-fil-A has soup. I can always do that. Maybe i can cook and portion out chicken, but i don't like chicken. So.... Well.... I gotta get back to doing better. Burgers, cheese sticks, and brownies yesterday. That's some lazy eating.
I'm gonna make a food plan.
And I'm gonna use my gym membership.0 -
@sarahthes - that gingerbread house is so cute! Congrats on winning!
@Elise4270 - so glad the race is tomorrow and not today! That totally sounds like something I would do! Tell your DH good luck!
I had brunch today with a bunch of women (mostly pretty young) runners. It was fun to hear them talking about what they want to accomplish and the races they are planning to run (Boston, Chicago, Philly and LA). They were all clearly out of my league but it was still fun. Oh and there were two girls who are sponsored by Oiselle - one was a sprinter and the other a pole vaulter but she competes in other events too.
We had a white elephant gift exchange but we didn't have to bring any gifts they were all from Oiselle. I had a super cute shirt that was likely to be too small but then someone stole it in the exchange. I ended up with really cute running shorts but I am pretty sure they are going to be way too big. Ha!
Also watching them eat was pretty amazing. Lots of avocado toast with eggs but one had some Korean beef/tater tots bowl that looked really impressive but I can't imagine anyone being able to eat even part of it alone. For my part, I had a scramble with spinach and avocado. It was delicious and came with breakfast potatoes that I didn't eat much of and a biscuit that I brought home. All in all it was a fun morning and I consider it a win.
I don't have any other weekend plans, don't even know what we will have for dinner tonight. Sunday will be pork chops or spaghetti. I will get to the gym today or tomorrow to get my cardio in though.
@Elise4270 - is there anything you can put on the chicken or make it with a sauce or even shredded with salsa so it doesn't taste like chicken?

My daughter is Celiac and hates salad.2

We're out for dinner.
I just ordered a salad with chicken. but were at an Italian place. Soo... I passed on any pasta.
@shanaber Chicken seems so dirty sometimes. And TMI, sometimes it give me gas. DD says it does the same to her. So weird.
I scored a sweet new nike jacket. The aeroloft (like the one i ruined) was 180 -40% off. Eek. So i chose a cheaper 125-40% off. I can't remember what its called. I like it. Its ugly army green. I'm totally rockin' it.
ETA the jacket is the aerolayer.
Eric says "thanks" @shanaber !0 -

I swear people just assume that's all we can eat? I am not a big salad person, to begin with, and have to be in the right mood to eat it. I voluntarily eat a salad as a meal about 4 times a year. LOL1 -
I scored a "free" coffee today. I grabed the wrong card and it was expired. So they gave me my coffee free. Haha! Awww. I'll go back an pay for it. I did find a new card. But didnt have it with me walking dh to his corral. I figured id find Starbucks where i have an account on my phone and wouldn't need the bank card.
Now i got dh off, some caffeine, I'll head down to the hotel TM.
No idea what is on the menu today. I suppose thatll depend on how sore dh is afrer his race.
I could "hunt" up a nice fat burger and fries for him post race and just have it ready for him (at the hotel, where they gave us a super late check out, 2pm).
What are y'all having today?0 -
I kind of let things get out of control these past couple of nights. Nothing terrible, but still. Today is going well so far. Eggs scramble this morning and a couple of tootsie rolls for lunch, along with a small glass of bourbon.
Trying to get my gear together for next weekend's hunting trip this afternoon so I'll have time to take Kody on a short walk this evening1 -

I generally encourage my daughter to eat ahead of time and just feel extra excited if someone has safely accommodated her, however it makes me grumpy that she should be accommodated far more than she is. I can tell you college dining hall eating is frankly the biggest disappointment (and financial suck) I have encountered with gluten free.0 -
I had a cookie for breakfast and went out for lunch, but my calories are still under control. We are doing potato pancakes for supper apparently.
I want to run but we've been getting freezing rain for the past 2 hours. So we will see. Looks like it might be trying to turn into snow, but I think that might actually be worse.1 -
Hi folks! Yeah Yeah...I am back...again LOL
I want to start putting notes down and again and getting good sanity check from my fellow runners.
Running has been going really well. I left my coach mainly because I had been working with him for 2 years and felt I could do it on my own and still make some gains. If I get stuck again, I will give him a call...but it saves me $75 a month. I had my first race of the year LOL With all the moving and what not it has been crazy. I did a 5K in Davis near the collage and got a PR by 2 min and got 5th in my age group. Pretty stoked about that and really cemented letting my coach go.
I have been losing weight like a champ for the last 2 months and am down 7lbs. I have hit a bit of a plateau and was watching some YouTube videos and really started questioning if I was doing it harder than it needed to be. I kinda like the idea of Keto but not ready to commit to that level of planning yet. I came across Dr. Fung? Fong? and his Fasting interviews and I loved it! He really advocates intermittent fasting for controlling insulin responses and hence fat storage/release responses. Problem is he doesn't apply it to athletes. A lot of blogs I have read says it is horrible and stupid for a runner to try it. IDK. So I am going to try it LOL. I am so excited to not be counting every.freaking.calorie!
So Day 1: I am doing the 16/8 fast since most folks agreed that was about as aggressive you want to go to a)start and b) keep running. So my feed window is 10am - 6 pm. I do this b/c I am a morning exerciser (always) and I really enjoy dinner with hubby, our only meal together. So here it gets tricky and this is where I need your help...I am brainwashed COMPLETELY on eating right after a run and fueling before a hard run blah blah...so slap me if I am just complaining ...or throw me a cookie if I pass out.
Got up at 5am, started workout at 5:45 am (partly due to sulking over no creamer in my coffee)...35 min super easy run and 20 min strength circuit. Felt good. 8 am...started getting hungry...8:30 am...thought I was going to die (but still felt ok)...9 am...started the countdown...9:59 FOOD! I broke my fast with a protein shake laced with lots of adaptogens. I was ok for about 1.5 hrs and then got HUNGRY again! I held off till 1pm and had a salad and 4% yogurt with granola and lot of water (with a bit of hydrate/sugar in it). After that...I am not hungry in the least bit. It is now 4:30pm and I have dinner in 1 hr and I really don't care. I am tracking my calories loosely to make sure I am getting enough.
Tomorrow is a rest day so it should be ok. I think I might not spread my calories out so much, the shake didn't do it for me like it does in the morning...it was like my body wanted all the calories it knew it was due by that time and then shut up. Anyone else manage this? Or am I crazy?0 -
Today was shaping up to be a pretty good day. Until I went to Aldi. And they had snickerdoodle cookie cereal. And I bought 3 boxes.
It's a limited edition, so I had to, right?!?0 -
I have mostly not eaten the sugar cookies I made & decorated yesterday.
Actually today has been a pretty good day. Hopefully tomorrow also cooperates.1 -

Oh no!!!! Well. Does that mean youll give it up for Lent?
Dh bought cookies. Thankfully that are mostly ones i can give to the dogs if i think i have to have a handful. Some of them are so buttery. Mmm. Stupid cookies!
Coffee so far today. No lunch plans but im leaning towards something healthy (er). Maybe some egg bites from Starbucks. I dont want a salad. Its too cold to want cold food.0 -
Somebody just brought in some fresh baklava. Holy was that amazing. Fresh!2
-
Good afternoon folks!
I am so full that even sugar cookies and baklava sounds horrible! LOL
Today (Day 2 of 16:8) has been pretty good. No run this morning but did go out for a 2 mile walk before work, dang it was cold! I was stomach crampy hungry by 9:30 but it was so close to food time! I had a last minute meeting pop up and didn't get to eat till 11:30! And you know what! I lived! I had both my breakfast and lunch at the same time and I am soooo full right now. I put it in MFP to make sure I am still ok and it came in around 1K calories. Yesterday came in around 1700 I think. Scale went down a bit but I as also a bit puffy from the weekend holiday party.
So Pros so far:
I like that I can "eat to my fullness" and I seem to stay fuller longer
I don't snack between my meals during "food time" b/c I am so satisfied
I dont snack in my fast time b/c I am so full after dinner that cuts out night time snacking and in the morning I am busy and I know 10am will role around pretty quickly. It is so much easier to say no to a donut than try to eat 1/2.
Cons:
Weight? I dont know what will happen...some people say they lose a ton, some dont.
Morning hunger when I work out...I need to sort that out. I might use UCAN on really hard days.
IDK if someone can answer this or it might be person dependent. At what point am I fat burning? Or is it too short of a period to do that? Maybe if my meals were Keto I would. I have read you use your glycogen within 6-12 hrs...I have a hunch it is longer than that. I might by some of those strips you pee on and see for fun if I even do get some sort of ketosis effect.0 -
@CMorning99 I did LCHF a few years ago and I shed water weight really fast, within about 2 days of starting. That's the water bound up with glycogen. So you should have mostly depleted your glycogen stores within a day or two depending on how active you've been.
If you find yourself hitting a hard wall drink some salty broth. Some of it can be due to peeing out electrolytes.0 -
@CMorning99 I like the idea of IF and sort of do it. I try to skip breakfast except coffee and not snack after 8pm. That puts me close to the 16:8 IF.
I think of you get refined foods, mostly those high glycemic foods out of your diet, or under control-if needed, the AM hunger will not be a thing. So i think it'll get better as you addapt.
I am not usually hungry come lunch time unless I've had carbs (cookies, or something equally as sinful), the few days before.
I saw an article about a guy that was an athlete and did 20:4 IF. I wish i could remember it, although at the time i thought "what crap. I'm not doing that". Haha!
Anyway, do keto if you want to do it. I find as a runner/active person natural carbs are fine and don't seem to cause weight gain as easily. For me its pizza. Pizza is the culprit of all my weight gain. And brownies, and pie....0 -
@sarahthes, @Elise4270 Thanks for the advise. I don't think I am going to go keto...when I do eat in my window I am not sticking to low carb at all. I normally don't eat junk but I also am not too often drawn to breads or fruit...so I doubt I will reach any level of true keto.1
-
@CMorning99 I'm not particularly interested in keto anymore either.
---
Food wound up being pretty much on point today despite the baklava.
And I went to the gym to run because it's a rink outside and I don't have screw shoes or grips. Maybe I should buy some...1 -
What are yall eating today?
I had coffee, a pear and Starbucks egg bites. No sure what I'll do for dinner.
My guts hurt, URQ. (Insert TMI, UC type concern). I have a doc appointment Monday. Sure I'll live til then. If not, sure the world will carry run on.0 -
Breakfast: coffee, protein shake, cookie.
Lunch: Tim Hortons Mediterranean lentil soup, whole wheat bun, potato wedges, coffee
Supper: thinking about grilled cheese, some fresh cut veggies, hummus. Also I may try some mushrooms because they need to be used up
Evening snack: cookie
Also I'm decorating cookies for a cookie potluck tomorrow. I plan to indulge, but I'll skip breakfast.1 -
What are yall eating today?
For breakfast, 4 eggs with diced onion, shredded spinach, feta cheese, tumeric powder and my favorite seasoning, Milwaukee Iron. I also snitched a fourth of a waffle from my wife and had a half pint of blackberries (79¢ at Aldi, I stocked up!)
For lunch another half pint of blackberries, a honeycrisp apple, two hard boiled eggs, and a Kirkland Nut Bar.
I'm not sure what supper will bring. I'll probably dig up something from the freezer and have a fruit smoothie for dessert.
I'm starting to think I should forget about trying to lose weight until I can run again, or at least walk. It's really hard to keep my eating in check when I'm not doing anything to burn extra calories.
@sarahthes that lentil soup sounds great! Maybe I'll make a soup in the IP tonight.

I am cutting pretty hard right now. I had to remind my husband that my net calories are pretty low (with Garmin adding exercise it's a bit of a crapshoot but I think around 1400 - Garmin claims more like 1100 but I don't buy it) and he shouldn't copy me and probably needs to eat more. He had to go and get yogurt twice in the middle of the night last night because his stomach was growling so much!
Of course my husband could probably stand to lose 10-20 lbs as well but he's maybe barely overweight by BMI (like we're talking 25.5-26).
I'm planning to keep this up until I am either running too much for it to be sustainable or until I'm back to where I was last summer, which is 30(!) lbs lower than I am right now. Whichever hits me first.1 -
Ugh, spoke too soon. Cookies.1
-
I ate a whole frozen pizza with goat cheese.
My weight diped a bit the last few days and i thought it meant i had room for pizza. Sure tomorrow's visit on scale will set me right.0
