Interesting... I actually thought of you yesterday when I was picking out bacon and wondered if you could have it w/o a migraine.
So can you drink cherry juice (can't imagine anyone wanting to drink celery juice) or does it also give you a migraine? I drink tart cherry juice somewhat regularly for inflammation. Per the nutritionist I should have it daily.

I can't do the cherry juice and try to stay away from cherries. I love them both, but they cause terrible GI upset. I dont think the juice would have enough nitrates to bother me. It might though.

I don't do many juices. Coconut water maybe with a splash of pom or cranberry juice is about it. I mostly indulge in kombucha.

@7lenny7 I saw a weight drop too when recovering. I think its the lack of exercise and the body adaps no longer having all the fuel stored up in muscles and I felt i shed some water/inflammation weight.

You will probably see your weight return days after adding cardio back.

Least that how it works for me.

Monday to a short week! Dh told me last night that this was Thanksgiving week. Whaa? Yay!

Whats the plan this week? What yums do we get to enjoy?

@Elise4270 the only yum I know I'm getting is my singular contribution to Thanksgiving dinner, which will be a crustless pumpkin pie made with real pumpkin. It will be my first time using real pumpkin so I hope it's not disaster. My wife is making some sort of sickly sweet pie with keebler cookies that the kids have always liked.

My oldest son will be coming home from college Wednesday for the T-giving weekend, and he's bringing his girlfriend with him (whom I adore!), any my wife is going nuts with all meals she's planning on making. It's also his 21st birthday Friday, so we'll be taking him out for his first (legal) drink, so there will alcoholic treats as well. He's had a fake ID since freshman year, so it will be far from his first drink.

Well I had a carb fest day yesterday... not sure what was up with that. Carbs for breakfast carbs and a little protein for lunch and carbs with a little protein for dinner. Followed up with too much ice cream which I actually don't really like much. It all added up to an upset stomach last night and this morning. Still trying to head out the door to the gym.
The only real yums I have planned is pie. I told my husband to pick pumpkin or pecan but only one. I really want both but am fighting that urge. I mean seriously there are only 2 of us and the little old lady we help out across the street. I don't think we need 2 pies.

I realized last night i should be digging into weight maintenance the best i can since we're going to Hawaii in January. I'm not sure I'll wanna go already bloated with tight clothes. So i ate the last of the pie so it is no more.

But dh phoned from the store already complaining that i et all the sweets.

In my defense, there was no cranberry sauce and the pie was a sweet/tart mixed berry and substituted fine.

Ok. I'm just going to let him eat all the junk. My pants were way too snug all day so i have some damage to undo.

I did well today until dinner. DH decided to go to In-n-Out and brought home burgers. He got mine ordered right but it didn't taste good so I didn't eat it all... Still need to get my protein up.

    Me too!
    Coffee
    Protein bar
    Greek yogurt with nut granola

Trying to decide if I should head to the gym and do some cycling... I have strength training tonight but that isn't cardio and we are doing primarily core and upper body

    Oatmeal and coffee for breakfast.

Coffee and only one trip to the candy dish at work.

Lunch: yogurt, orange, carrots, cheese? And a hummus & cheese sandwich.

Dinner: spaghetti with marinara and tofu.

So far, so good for me today

Breakfast cookie (oatmeal, chocolate chips, peanut butter some other stuff. No sugar, and supposedly keto)

    Kirkland Nut Bar

Kirkland canned chicken, doused with sriracha sauce

    black coffee & pu'ehr tea.

Yesterday was not as good. I was feeling so horrible with sinus drainage into my stomach that I felt I needed to nibble all day just to keep from feeling nauseous. Mission accomplished! Finished the day with half a pizza.

On a positive note, I think after 8 days I'm FINALLY on the upswing!

@7lenny7 - what is a Kirkland nut bar? Protein bar of some kind?
  • 7lenny7
    7lenny7 Posts: 3,498 Member
@shanaber they aren't a protein bar, but very similar to a Kind bar. The ingredient list looks pretty good and they are quite a bit lower in carbs than other bars. This site has more info
    https://www.linsoftware.com/snacks/kirkland-signature-nut-bar/

About the only bars I buy any more are these, Lara bars and Nature Valley chewy protein bars.

@7lenny7 - those look just like Kind bars honestly! I like Kind bars, sort of... I bought an entire big box of them at Costco once and realized I would really love them without the chocolate on the back of them. They sat in the pantry cupboard for a long time and I think we threw them out... or they could still be sitting there way past expiration date.

I ended up doing ok today. I cycled over lunch and then had to rush to get ready for Strength Training (had to shower first because - sweat!) so I just grabbed some graham sticks and peanut butter. I had a small protein bar that they gave me to try at the store where I buy my protein bars and OMG it was SO nasty... I spit it out and threw the rest away and was so happy I had something else to eat! Had a Cliff protein bar on the way home and then chicken leftovers for dinner. Calories were good and got in almost 90g of protein - needs to be higher but better than the last few days.

I've been avoiding this thread like I've been avoiding logging.

I struggled with the junk food this week. We went grocery shopping Sunday and I bought a reese's bar. Ate it all at once then started on some cookie dough. Monday I finished the cookie dough.

Also... I haven't run since Saturday. Ughhh

I've been doing okay during the day, and then eating too much in the evening when I should be running.

Work day started stressful as I glanced at my email on the drive in (I carpool) and saw we had Proficiency (aka blind test sample) results from our biggest study of the year. I hate not knowing the results and worrying if the lab screwed something up...

Lab 1 (tiny, only 4 tests) did great.

Lab 2 (medium, 50-something tests) did great.

Lab 3 (big, the one I work out of) mostly did great but one parameter was ranked unacceptable and now my day will be wasted with starting the investigation before I hand it off.

Better than the old days when I'd be looking at 10 or 20 failures though.

My college boy comes home tonight and he's bringing his girlfriend with him. My wife has far too much food planned for the weekend but that what she enjoys, so I've learned to shut up and let her enjoy it.

The ramifications for me is that from tonight through Sunday, I'm going to try to be somewhat good, but I'm not logging and I'm not going to feel bad about it.

We tend to bracket our PT/RR tests with standards. It helps some. Great job still!

I don't have any food plans today.

Last work day before a few off and karma is making sure we still have the same weekly average of hell. Well. Least I'm not doing investigations (yet). Just wrapped up an instrument issue that took all of yesterday and this morning. Fingers crossed everything holds together til Monday (preferably a far away Monday in another century).

Food... Idk. I'm hungry. Probably tacos.

I hope everyone working today in the US has gotten out early to start your holiday and enjoy your families!

I really should have gone to the gym today but I didn't because I had to go to the dentist for another attachment for the Invisaligns and then my mouth was sore.
Instead being the data geek that I am I started looking at all my weight, calorie and macro data and creating comparative charts with trend lines of everything... all it really did was show that my spiral started in 2016 (March) with my hand surgery and has never really stopped. My calories and macros were pretty stable in 2016 (avg ~1200) as were the calories burned (~1800) while my weight climbed.
In 2017 it continued - I started seeing the nutritionist mid year and you can see the increase in calories to over 1500 but there was no change in the weight trend and it just continued along with almost exactly the same slope as 2016.
For 2018 my calories consumed have stayed around 15-1600 average but the burned was increasing (over 2000) and my weight actually saw a negative slope finally. Well, until October when I had to stop running. Now I am back on that same trajectory as 2016 and 2017. I have cut my calories back to 1500 or under but... this is just so depressing 😣
On any individual workout or day I am not convinced in the accuracy of the calories burned value but I figure over the trends they should be ok.

I don't even want to cook for Thanksgiving... I really need to go to the gym, I wonder if they will be open tomorrow

I ate chocolate last night. Dh found some with no soy, I thought "i bet thats fine". Nope. horrible headache all night. I also ate 3-4 slices of very thin hard salami. I'm just so stupid.

Dh just left to go find burgers. He was at the store yesterday and i asked for today food. Oh well.

With any luck this headache will be gone soon and i can get out and try to start a Thanksgiving streak. Think i usually make it 3 days.

Guess everyone is having turkey today??? Mines already been eaten. No one really cares here anyway.

I am going to try so hard to discipline myself to stop eating poorly and avoid migraine foods. Sugar makes me dumb. I just cant think clearly.

Not sure what I'll do with the burger dh brings back. Suppose ill have to check for migraine triggers and lose the bun.

Gobble till ya wobble. Yes, do get out today for a wobble.

We are having a Crock-Pot roast today since we have to work since it's Canada, but my husband is American.

    I skipped breakfast.

I found a coconut water with coffee in my fridge. Omg. Way to turn the will to live around. Mmm! I must have more.

I got some exercise today. That's two exercise days with out pain. Now if i can dig into a modest (mouse) run and continute to float on, i might not miss the boat and catch those lampshades on fire...

Eh.. just seeing if you're sober.

We did gobble today but no wobbles. Not because I didn't try - dumb gym being closed w/o any notice, guess I should have known but the website just says open 24hours... I did my workout videos (2 of them - SO hard and now I hurt) then I was on my feet pretty much the rest of the day cooking and cleaning up from cooking. Don't know what happened to DH cleaning up when I do all the cooking. Seems we have gotten away from that practice lately and I need to bring it back!

@elise4270 - I envisioned you with dancing with the lampshade on your head - not sure how I got that out of catching them on fire!

It was the same way last weekend. I cooked turkey, stuffing and roasted brussel sprouts. Dh made the green bean casserole (dumped it in a pan). I baked it.

All the mess was mine to clean. The universal code is to clean when you didn't cook. What's happening to this generation of men?
Well. I'm up too early. Fyvaham. Dern cats and the empty bowl.
Not sure what to do now.

The fresh pumpkin pie I made... Amazing! Best pumpkin pie I've made. Leave the nasty store-bought crust on the plate and it's not a bad thing to eat. I'll be making more, and may try other squash, and with less sugar

@7lenny7 - you just need to learn to make yummy delicious pie crust. It can be an amazing part of the pie (and other things too) when done right!

@7lenny7 last year my husband made pumpkin pie from a fresh, lovely blue pumpkin that tasted like vegetables. So now we just buy canned.

@shanaber crusts can certainly add to a pie, but I'm fine with avoiding the refined carbs (and the time it takes to make it) and eating the good stuff inside. I was going to make this a crustless pie but we had an extra Pillsbury crust in fridge.
