2018--Striving to Make This Year Our Best Possible

SUPER windy here today. Power outages everywhere but we still have power (for now).0
-
I hope your power stays on. I just checked our Cape newspaper online and see there are 1000-3000 outage in our town. I hope my house isn't one of them. I'd be worried about frozen pipes. That happened to a friend of mine during the January storm. She's in FL and her son checked the house. A basement door had blown open and the pipes had frozen The house was heavily damaged. She' been in and out of the hospital because of a fall so I'm glad she has the boys to deal with the damage.

Helene - I hope your house is okay. We're still good. I think DH is a little disappointed. He loves disaster planning. He's been puttering around for days, moving the generator here and there, sitting out battery powered lanterns, etc. Of course I'll get to put most of it away because that's not the fun part. LOL!
I'm dreading what I may find at the colonies. Wonder how many bowls will just be gone. Of course on the up side that would be bowls that will never have to be washed. LOL!0 -
I talked to my friend who checks on the house while we're away. Nobody in town has power and lots of trees came down. She said our house was okay and no trees came down in our yard. That' a sigh of relief.0
-
Helene - that's great news! We never lost power luckily and no trees down around us. Of the three colonies I feed only one had the bowls blown around and it wasn't the one I would have expected. I took the opportunity to change out dirty bowls. I've got quite the pile of bowls here to wash!
Yesterday I did our taxes and got CROM's books caught up through the end of February. That was more than I expected to get done in one day so I'm pleased!

Sounds like you all weathered the storm well.
I went to the city yesterday and got my hair colored and highlighted. I've been dragging all week since the prep for the procedure so I just didn't have the energy to do anything more so I came home. The leg pain has also been keeping me awake so that hasn't helped. I need to get back into the routine.0 -
Jean - I'm so sorry to hear you're dragging! I hope your leg pain improves!!0
-
Jean, sorry to hear you’re not feeling so good. Hopefully you’re getting some rest since your schools aren’t open right now. At least, I think that’s your state?
Slow going on the diet front. The overall trend is down, but very, very slowly.
Did anyone watch the Oscars last night? I like to watch, mainly to see all of the pretty dresses. I had seen a few of the movies, so that it made it more interesting for me. I was pleased for Allison Janney and thought her award was well-deserved. I had also predicted that Phantom Thread would win for best costume design and it did. I didn’t like the movie, but the costumes were beautiful.0 -

I confess I've never watched the Oscars. People magazine will no doubt have many of the dresses in the next issue.

I watched the Oscars. I enjoyed it but there were very few surprises. The front runner won the major awards. There were lost of lovely dresses. I have to confess wondering how a few women with the plunging necklines avoided wardrobe malfunctions. I know they use double stick tape but the side view exposed a lot of breast profile.
My friend called to say our power was back and the heat was running. We had no damage but another storm is supposed to hit tomorrow.
Jean, I saw on the news that strike has been settled. When do you expect to go back to work.0 -
Helene - I hope your house survived the latest storm!0

That episode seemed to drag on for some reason. Wild blindside at the end though.

Today marks the start of week 4 of my NS restart. So far I’m down 3 pounds, despite several meals eaten out or off plan. Last night I went to the once a month wine tasting that I’ve been attending for awhile now and I was afraid that might undo some of my progress, but my weight was only up .2 of a pound this morning, so I guess my strategy of compensating with lower calorie options for the rest of the day worked the way I hoped. All of the wines were Italian, and 3 of the appetizers were seafood, 1 was a small salad, and the last was a delicious beef tenderloin crostini with a delicious mustard sauce. I really enjoyed 3 of the 5 wines, and thought the other 2 were just ok. I think this wine tasting is a terrific value since the 5 wines and 5 appetizers are all included for $25 per person. The food is always excellent and I always like at least 1 or 2 of the wines. It’s held at a really nice steakhouse that is near us.
I’m starting on a knitting project with a friend. She’s a much better knitter than I, but neither of us has ever done any of what’s called Fair Isle patterns. She found a pattern she wanted to try and I agreed to do it with her, so when we went to the yarn store last week we selected yarn for it. I went over to her house last Tuesday to get started, which was a bit of a disaster. One of our friends came over as well and there was a bit too much chatter for me to concentrate enough to get much work done. I kept making mistakes, which was frustrating because the part I was trying to do is the easy part of the project, and one I’ve done many times before. Anyway, today I was able to get it started and now I’m ready for our next session where we will start working the actual pattern. Hopefully that will go a little better next time. The funny thing is, my friend is a really good knitter and she was having even more difficulty than I was. I had to rip out stitches several times and redo them, but she actually had to start over a couple of times, so I felt a little better about my mistakes. Of course, she kept stopping to help me and our friend, so it’s no wonder she had problems. I really had no excuse, lol!0 -

I was pretty surprised. I thought it was Audrey for sure. Are the 2 groups 4 and 4 after the vote? I don't know the name well enough to know who belonged to which old group. The new purple group was pretty bad at the puzzle.0 -

The wine tasting sounds like a really good deal. I'd have loved the appetizers. Nice job with your new strategy. # pound i good considering you've eaten out. I'd be pleased with those results.0 -
I’ve seen ads for a new product some of you might like for breakfast. Here’s a link: http://www.justcrackanegg.net/0

One of my stores has that. I tried one of the lower calorie ones (they vary wildly in calories). It was way too salty (even for me).0 -
Pam - great job on the NS restart! The knitting sounds frustrating!0

Yes, they are 4 and 4 after the vote. I don't by any means have them all straight either. Some of them (as always) are just bigger personalities than others.0 -

I've seen them in the store but hadn't tried then. I probably won't now that Maryanne commented on the salt content. I've been trying to watch how much salt DH and I take in0

Well, we got set up for the cat show. With a little glitch. Bonnie opened the toy tubs and said one was missing. I know I checked every tub in the storage unit but back I went. Sure enough, I messed up. I forgot we put the snowmen in with the non Christmas stuff. They were on top. I took a quick look. Thought "Christmas". And set it aside. Luckily, for a Friday anyway, traffic wasn't too back for the extra trip. And luckily no one had anywhere they absolutely needed to be.
I'm feeling pretty good today. Usually I take Aleve all week leading up to the show.
Standing on the concrete floor so long on Friday always leaves me in serious pain. Because Aleve has started ripping up my stomach pretty good, and I can no longer take the stomach meds (diarrhea, I know, TMI) I decided to take one yesterday morning and one last evening. I can't believe how good I feel. I feel like I lucked out.
I just got done putting together a spreadsheet so we can inventory our Mouse Factory catnip toys and plan our next order. We're overdue. I actually ordered some toys on ebay for this show. Turns out they are really nice and we'll probably keep ordering from them but our Mouse Factory toys are our big sellers! http://www.catnipstore.com/

I didn't literally look at the salt content but I know they were way too salty for my taste. And that seldom happens (I like salt).0 -
Maryanne, just an FYI about Aleve. A friend of mine took it for several weeks due to pain from a tooth extraction and ended up with elevated liver enzymes. She was taking high doses for about 5 weeks, so I’m sure that was a factor. Taking it at prescribed levels for a week might not affect you the same way, but be careful.0

Pam - thanks for the warning! It does seem to work SO much better for me than tylenol or ibuprofen but I definitely can't take much of it.0
