Pam - what a hoot! Took me a minute but I guess that thing sticking out is a doorstop? Maybe?

I think it's a small peek at the toilet paper roll and holder. LOL

Maryanne, that's great news about your dad's heart test. Must be some good genetics in your family. Or your dad too good care of himself.

Only half. My mother died of a sudden article at age 75. Which is why I have a cardiologist. All four of our grandparents lived into their 90s so I admit we felt sort of cocky. But then mom died. And all that went out the window.

Pam--I got the same email. I thought it was a good deal and hope it works for you.

    Maryanne--Glad your Dad didn't require a stent.

I decided to have a little break from healthy eating. I had carrot cake at the Outback but after soup and salad it was taken home to eat later. Oh, so good! After six weeks of nothing "bad," it was super good.

I just finished booking my tours for England. I'm not much of a person to wait until the last minute when it comes to major activities.

Sorry to be so MIA. I've been sick since Saturday and it's only slowly improving. I spent much of the weekend dozing. VERY unlike me.

Was it the flu? Resting is good. You don't want to have a relapse. We went to the rec center today. I did 3/4 of a mile. We seem to get busy and don't make it over there as much as we should. So I haven't built up the stamina and distance that I need. I made myself do 20 minutes. I wanted to quit after 15 but I pushed myself. If I get back tomorrow, I'll try for a mile.

I don't think I have the flu; no fever or chills. More of the "stomach bug that's going around".

I'm spoiled. Now that I work at home I never get sick. So this really surprised me.

I got all of my NS food yesterday and today and got it all sorted and stored, which was a job! Getting rid of all the packaging was a chore as well. One surprise was the box labeled TurboStart, which contained the first week’s recommended foods, including shakes and some bars to crush cravings. I thought I had declined this box of stuff, but apparently that was not an option. I called this morning to discuss this, plus 2 items were damaged. NS customer service is still awesome. They agreed to credit my account $30 plus send me replacements for the 9 items that I know I will never eat, like the shakes and bars with peanut butter, which always gives me severe indigestion. I won’t start for a couple of days because I still need to get stocked up on my “Power Fuels” and “Smart Carbs”, plus starting on Valentines Day just seems cruel, lol!

Maryanne, I hope you’re feeling better by now. This has been a rough winter. I think everyone is ready for it to be over, and for the flu bug and other illnesses to start abating. I know I’ve been trying really hard to avoid the flu and so far I’ve been successful.

Pam, good luck with your N restart. We went to the chiropractor today. In addition to hi adjustments, we both used the hydro massage bed. That' my favorite part of the visit. I found out his wife works part time at the rec center. She asked if we were there the other day (yes). They belong plus her husband has a membership at Planet Fitness in FT Myers. They've open a new one one town over from us on the Cape so we'll look at doing $10 memberships there during the summer months. After the appointment, we headed down to rec center for some treadmill time.

The weather has become quite the excuse. Tuesday morning here was warm and sunny. But some Amazon shipper is showing a delay in Baltimore due to "weather or natural disaster". Yeah, right.

Pam - good luck with that restart. I agree restarting on Valentine's Day would be cruel. LOL!

I've been eating what my stomach could tolerate without much concern for the diet. It's been a rough week. I'm almost afraid to think I'm feeling a little better.

I have an appointment this week with a new gynecologist. Hopefully I'll feel good enough to go. When I called in the late summer to make an appointment with mine (who I"d probably been going to for 25 years) I got a recorded message that she'd closed the office and a number to call for your files. Wow! What they sent is a brown envelope, name/address scrawled barely legibly on the front, filled with a messed up clump of paper. What happened to the computer files? Who knows? She was part of a major hospital system so I'm surprised it was that disorganized. I checked the obituaries thinking if she died I could almost forgive her but nope, she's still alive. And apparently comes from a family of doctors so even if she had died they should know better. The good news is the new one is VERY close. If you could get there as the crow flies (you can't, even on foot), it would probably be 1/4 mile. I just hope she's tolerable and doesn't take forever. The gynecologist is one place I always saw the nurse practitioner which gives you some idea where they rank on my list of docs.

I'm doing mental gymnastics. As I'm feeling better, I need to convince myself that this is NOT an excuse to go off the rails!

Good luck with the new doctor. The way the old one closed up shop is disgraceful. Seeing someone new could be a good thing. We went to the rec center today for the 3rd day in a row. I was pretty proud of us for showing up. We did the treadmill and I did a little bit on one of the machines. It was the one Where you lift up a padded bar with your legs. A man came over to use the machine next to me so I asked him if he could help me with the settings. He was very gracious and helpful. I had him set it on the lowest setting and was surprised that was too easy. He went up a setting and I could feel the difference. I only did a couple of minutes but it was good for the first time.

I think I lucked out. I made an appointment with the board certified gynecologist closest to my house. I love her! Who woulda thought? My appointment was at 1 and I was home by 2:10.

AND they apparently have an internal medicine group with two nurse practitioners she'd recommend. I will definitely give that some thought. My internist has always been the weak link in my healthcare.

Maryanne, that’s great! Sounds like you found a good one, and that her office runs efficiently is a definite bonus!

I hate changing doctors although I am currently contemplating finding a new family practitioner. I feel as if my current doctor spends more time on her computer than she does actually listening to me, and when I get the written summary of the visit with the treatment plan there are always items on it that we either didn’t discuss or that are just incorrect, which doesn’t impress me. I think she’s quick to assume she has all the facts but she doesn’t always allow me to fully explain my concerns. And my last complaint is that she often keeps me waiting while I can hear her talking with her staff or just chit chatting with them. Maybe she’s reviewing files at the same time, but I don’t appreciate being kept waiting.

Pam - that's what my appointment with the new cardiologist was like. I kept trying to get her away from the computer just long enough to look at the lab work I brought her. She wasn't interested. I definitely need a new cardiologist.

Now that I've had time to ponder, I'm wondering if, even though I really liked this woman, if I really need a gynecologist. Apparently I've had my last PAP test (new Medicare guidelines are to do it only every 3 years and only until age 70). My internist could write the prescriptions for the mammogram and bone density test. If the mammogram showed anything I'd head for the oncologist. If the bone density test showed worsening I'd head for the endocrinologist. Doesn't leave much of a role for a gynecologist.

I've been MIA simply because I had a bug that wiped me out. I just didn't have the energy to post. I even gave up some work. Needless to say, there was no exercise last week and eating was not good as I tend to eat when not feeling well.

Maryanne--I got an email today offering 50% off on a la carte orders as a President's Day special.

Pam--I hope the program works well for you. I've been tempted to buy the Fast Start program as WalMart sells that by itself.

Helene--I hope the new exercise program works well for you and that you gradually add resistance and time.

Jean - you sound as wiped out as I felt all week!

Jean - that 50% off offer, combined with the Success a la Carte plan which is usually 40% off and free shipping, combined for a 62% discount somehow. That makes absolutely zero mathematical sense but I decided I'd take it. Just ordered about $160 worth of shelf stable food for about $60.

Pam - good luck in the doctor search! I've had fantastic luck with specialists but internal medicine, not so much. So I just rely on the specialists.

Jean, I’m sorry you’ve been sick and had to miss some work days. I know you enjoy the work and appreciate the extra income, so I’m sure you must have felt really bad. Hopefully you’ll regain your strength and energy quickly.

The Turbo Takeoff package I received was full of, mostly, the foods I liked the least from NS, including a box of 7 chocolate shakes that are supposed to be energy boosters. I was not a fan when the shakes were added to the program, so I was not pleased to have those included in my shipment. There was also a box of 7 chocolate peanut butter bars for craving crushing. The problem for me with those is that peanut butter invariably causes me severe indigestion, so I can’t use them. The other selections for lunch and dinner were the shelf stable items that I never liked very much. In looking at the stats on them, I think all are on the lower end of the calorie count spectrum so by eating this box of food for the first week, NS is stacking the deck to ensure that you maximize your weight loss for the first week. Not a bad strategy, but I wish I had known what I was getting. I don’t recall anywhere in the ordering process being informed that I was getting this box of preselected food.

So far, I’m doing ok with my NS restart. I’m finding it a challenge to get in all the veggies as I’ve fallen into a routine that doesn’t include as many as I should have daily. I’m not following the plan exactly as recommended since I refuse to drink the shakes and can’t use the craving crusher bars. Also, I only had 1 usable lunch in the first week box, so I’m eating lunches from my general supply until the replacements arrive from NS. Today is Day 4, so it’s too soon to say if I’m losing weight yet. We went out for dinner last night but I had grilled shrimp with mixed veggies and cole slaw with an apple cider vinegar dressing, so hopefully that wasn’t too far off course.

Pam - I've never thought much of NS' communication skills. Of course for all I know it's planned chaos. If no one knows what the "deal" is maybe less people complain?

In spite of having "let's eat" urges over the last week I lost a pound. Hopefully that will be incentive not to give in!!!
