We had barely a dusting of snow but of course the anticipation got DH all atwitter. To placate him I moved Jessicat's oncology appointment until early next week.

I feel SO bad for the cats at the colonies. Wish there was something I could do. We have made shelters at most of the colonies but it's not like bringing them in which I'm sure everyone is advising people to do with their pets. I wish I could tell them "three more days and then the arctic chill is gone".

I've pretty much told my bosses I won't be available Monday and Tuesday because of Jack's surgery and Jessicat's oncology appointment. Once I get Jack home (being positive here) I'm sure taking care of him will take some time too. I just hope this goes well and gives him qualify time! I'm a nervous wreck.

I didn't make it to the rec center today. We were planning to go but the tree trimmers we talked to last summer showed up today to trim trees and clear out the brush around the house. We got an estimate back in August but DH had just started rehab and we didn't get back to the landscaper. He called once and DH was actually at rehab during the call. DH isn't great about returning calls and by the time he called him back, Hurricane Irma had hit FL. We didn't have any real damage and the fellow who cuts the grass cleaned up the fallen branches. I'm sure the landscaper was busy with major storm clean up jobs and probably didn't put us top of the list since DH had kept him hanging for a month before telling him we'd have the work done. The was no real rush since we weren't in FL and other people had fallen trees and such that were more of an emergency. I was beginning to think he'd forgotten us or wasn't interested when the crew showed up about 11 this morning. They are now picking up all the stuff they cut cut down. Maybe we can take a walk in the neighborhood once they leave.
Pam, the center has elliptical machines and bikes that I could use and they have a better view of the TV. I think they have a stepper as well. I could probably figure those out myself or watch when someone else is using on. Watching you Tube videos i a great idea. Maybe they could show me how to adjust the weight machines.

I forgot to mention the landscape crew found a 2 foot iguana in one of our palm tree. They put it in their truck and will release it off island. Sanibel consider them nuisance animals that eat the local wildlife. DH got a look at it and told me about it. Right after that, a new story came on talking about how the iguanas get cold stunned and become very lethargic. I guess that helped them to catch this one.

Helene, I really like the elliptical machine and don’t find it hard to use at all. Just take it slow at first, and skip the arm part until you’ve worked up your endurance. There should be a place to hold on besides the arm part. It burns more calories than the treadmill or bike, too!

Good to know. I'll give that a try.

Good morning, school is closed because of wind chill warning of up to 20 degrees below zero equivalent. Frostbite can develop in exposed skin within 30 minutes at that wind chill.

I worked yesterday in about 7 degrees, two consecutive days of braving the cold. When I got home yesterday evening, I remembered to transfer my new insurance card and car registration to the insurance/registration folder I carry in the console. I've never had any problems with this folder until now. It was so cold that when I went to open the vinyl folder, it cracked and broke in half.

The only exercise I got in yesterday were the steps involved in regular walking at home and work. I only got in 4500+ steps and zero active minutes. I was so tired yesterday evening that I chose not to use the cycle or recumbent type thing. I guess that will count as my day off. Now, today I will have to find something entertaining on Netflix and pedal away. Trust me, I would rather sit, do things around house, read and vegetate.

The positive thing is that food or calories in is at or slightly below each day's recommended amount to lose, but I've been down that MFP route before with little or no loss.

    Great selections, Maryanne!!

I gritted my teeth and completed 60 minutes of pedaling, pedaling, ;pedaling. If you haven't seen Mindhunter on Netflix, it is an excellent series. Think Criminal Minds set in late 70s when the FBI began the behavioral analysis unit.

Pam: That is hilarious. I can really identify with that. The older you get the less likely the skin is to firm up as you lose.

Laughing out loud at Pam's post. The only walking I got in today was walking the aisles shopping.

True story: a friend’s MIL told her when she turned 40 that she should only have sex on her back because everything sags in other positions. She was a bit taken aback by this advice, to say the least!

Turned up the resistance one notch. Much more effort is required. I guess I'll have to work up on the number of minutes per session. I may not lose weight but perhaps I'll tone the legs.

    This week's active minutes (those that are long enough for cardio effect);

Jean those are impressive numbers. Increasing resistance will pay off in the end. Plus you probably don't need to keep increasing minutes if it takes more effort to pedal. DH wants to go to a local home show this weekend. We have to decide which day to go since it's a bit of a drive.

Maryanne--Great graphics as usual. Of course, I'm partial to the black cats one.

Those minutes last two weeks came from being trapped inside. I started out with one level of resistance and then the next week, upped it another level which didn't overly challenge me. This level definitely challege me When I'm working, I'll be lucky to get in 60 minutes in the evening.

Jean, have you tried starting the day with 10-15 minutes of pedaling instead of doing it all at night? It might give you more energy at work and you might not be as fatigued at night. Try it on a non-work day to see if it makes you feel any better. Many experts suggest breaking workout into 2-3 segments.

Helene--I break it into segments, but when I work it will have to be done at night. I get up already at 5:30am when I work. After I pedal, etc. I always need to rest so I would need a half hour recovery time before getting ready for work. I like 30 minute segments. With ten minutes, you are just getting into developing a good rate so a good cardiac influence isn't developed. 15 minutes might be an option. I really hate early morning exercise but I know some get up at 4am to 5am to do it. The evenings are so boring in winter that watching a good Netflix series while pedaling makes the evening go by so much faster in the winter.

I was bored tonight so I put in another 20 minutes while watching a Netflix program. These are active minutes in which the exercise is intense enough to raise heart rate into cardio zone. I really don't anticipate much if any, weight loss despite what MFP says with the FitBit info synched into MFP.

This is the day's summary: met all goals, except for calories burned. I think I needed to burn about 250 more.

I'm trying not to think too much about taking Jack for surgery. Funny memes is about the level where my mind is right now.

Maryanne--It is understandable that you would be concerned and thinking about Jack's surgery. Sometimes, a little humor helps and these memes are great choices. I think both apply to me.

I discovered a box of Wonderslim pancakes so I had one of those for breakfast. I really like those so I need to have them more often.

I was up at 6am and discovered it was 6 below but the promise is for the temperatures to warm up. It is now 8:45 and have got my morning routine of taking meds, waiting, eating something for breakfast, and having coffee. Time to hit the exercise before I get too comfortable relaxing here.
