Maryanne--Me thinks it is more comfortable inside than out in the nasty weather. Smart cat!0

Pam--That is funny, but I have to confess that my indoor cat never eats in front of the TV but Momma eats, uses the laptop, and sometimes will eat in front of the TV.
I'll get to sleep in tomorrow (what a joke) as we are expecting snow and ice up to 3 inches. Will this stuff ever end?

Too funny Pam! I'm sure if anyone expected our pampered babies to go out for any reason they'd get a major protest. They have no interest in the TV though. Even if I pop in one of those just for cats tapes.
Our forecast for the next 10 days or so is warmer and rainy. I'll take it! At that point we'll only have about 5 weeks of time that really nasty weather threatens. We do occasionally get snow in March but it doesn't linger.

I pent the mot of the day in Fort Myers. I had an appointment with the dermatologist to look at a couple of moles. My primary care doc was concerned about one of them. They turned out to be age related spots and I opted to have them frozen. I had a biopsy of my eczema because the doctor wasn't sure that' what it was. The biopsy was a piece of cake but the liquid nitrogen was kind of painful. Actually, I'd have to say it burned for a few moment. It will be worth it when these mole like thing dry up and fall off. I did a little shopping while I was in town. When I got home, I suggested we head over to the rec center. We hadn't been there recently. I thought DH might make excuses but he aid okay. Neither of us wanted to go but it's a slippery slope when you miss too many sessions. I only made 16 minutes while he did 20. I need to build my time and distance back up. We were both glad we made the effort to show up. Weather here ha turned nice and we should be in the 70s all week.0
-
Helene--Good job on making it to the rec center. I've had the nitrogen thing done. Worked well.
We have a 3 hour delay because of icy roads. I just heard a plow which I guess is taking care of the frozen slush on the street. "Heat wave" later this week.
This is my cat contribution:

Helene - good job all around!
Jean - Funny! schools are delayed here too. Our driveway, sidewalk and street are a sheet of ice. If I could get to the main roads I'd likely be okay but I opted to call and postpone Jessicat's chemo. I'll risk me but not the cats!
Today will be a waiting game - waiting for Jack's surgeon to call!0 -
Maryanne--They ended up cancelling school. Just another day to be made up. A principal in another county lives in ours an left for work but came very close to sliding into a creek about a half mile from the house. She just parked the car, walked home and called to let them know she wasn't coming to work
I think you made a good judgement call. I am so tired of all this stuff. It isn't worth taking a risk to venture out. I hope next Monday is ok as I have a car appointment, state inspection, and a big need to buy food.
Are you still buying from Diet Direct? I just had one of the Wonderslim pancakes. Those are so good.0 -
As soon as I get back on track, I'll be ordering from Diet Direct! I do love the wonderslim pancakes. They are a staple. I've just been lazy in every way about food and eating and the scale reflects that. Couldn't have "packet day" without Diet Direct.
The surgeon called. Jack survived the surgery. One side of his nose was completely closed; the other had only a pinprick. No wonder he couldn't breathe. His septum was also gone. Have to wait for the radiologist to read the CT scan and for the biopsies to come back. Surgeon says that to him the CT scan looks about the same as a year ago and that it doesn't look like cancer to him but we have to wait and see. He wasn't able to preserve separate nasal openings so there will be a single opening now. He's going to monitor him closely. There's a possibility that he might recommend a second surgery but he's thinking that's unlikely. He actually said I could visit tonight but this isn't a road I'm that familiar with and going down after dark when there are still ice patches just doesn't appeal (plus I'm a softy and I hate to have them thinking they are going home when they aren't!). Plus I have to get up early AGAIN tomorrow to take Jessicat to the oncologist (and be home by 10 am for a conference call)! Anyway, so, so far so good with Jack. I asked the surgeon if he'd ever had a patient before where THREE vets - one in Philly, one in Towson and one in Fairfax - were all anxiously awaiting a report. He had to confess he hadn't. Everyone loves this cat!0 -
Maryanne--Good news on Jack. I confess when I read the description of what was done that I can sympathize a little with Jack. Although I didn't have that extreme of a procedure done, I did have breathing issues and had to have a septoplasty with nose rebuilt and tissue growths in the sinuses removed. Recovery was miserable as I had to sleep at a 45 degree angle for two weeks before the braces and packing were removed.0
-
Maryanne, I’m glad to hear that Jack came through the surgery and that the news sounds promising. Good luck tomorrow with Jessicat and getting back in time for your conference call!0

I'm not working today, and since there is a rumor of a weekend storm, I have decided to make a run to the city. I need groceries and had planned to do that on Monday when I had a car appointment. I called and the dealership could work me in during the afternoon today. I'll then have all taken care of just in case it gets bad again. The car's inspection sticker runs our this month, plus it needs an oil change.
I did an hour of exercise this morning as I'll be in the city. Early morning exercise is not my cup of tea but it got done.0 -

That's good news about Jack tolerating the surgery. Being able to breath better should make a difference in his quality of life. We're planning a rec center visit after lunch. I would have gone in the morning but a friend stopped by. He stayed on the island during Irma and was telling us about what it was like to stay. Irma came in south of us so he stayed high and dry but power was out for the week. And many contractors (plumbers electricians, AC people) got flooded out and weren't available while they fixed their own houses. The landscaping guy we expected in November came last Friday. We had planned to have him cut back a lot of trees and bushes because they were so overgrown. He was backlogged with jobs involving storm damage so we were lower priority. That was fine because we were routine maintenance and not an emergency. We were talking about people that wait to the last minute to make storm preparations and they get caught unprepared. We're like Jean. If you know the storm is coming, get what you need to do done days in advance like food shopping and her car service. During storm TV coverage, we were surprised at people waiting in long lines for gas. We would have had the tank filled a week in advance and would have stocked up on water. That's what we do up north for blizzards and hurricanes. I don't understand the mentally of it may not come so I'll wait until the last minute to do anything.0

We made it to the rec center today. we both did a mile on the treadmill. DH did another mile on the recumbent bike and I tried one of the elliptical machines. I only lasted a couple of minutes because I was pretty tired from the treadmill. Next time I'll revere the order of the machines and see if I can do a bit more on the elliptical. We got there at 2 which was a good time. There were only a handful of other people there. The place started to get busy at 3. Maybe we'll try to get there at 1:30 next time. I like it better when it's quiet. There was a young man there the other day. He moved from machine to machine and really clanked the weight as he made adjustments. He was giving me a headache. I don't see why it would be necessary to disturb everyone else with the lamming and banging.

Helene, that is something I also find very annoying at the gym. I always assume that anyone who is slamming down the weights is lifting weights that are too heavy for him or her. If they were in control of them, they wouldn’t need to bang them around. I think it’s very rude. And don’t even get me started on the men that grunt loudly every time they lift. Again, if they have to make that amount of noise, they’re lifting too much weight.
I spent much of today preparing a decadent chocolate torte for a good friend’s 70th birthday surprise party, which we will be attending tomorrow. I’ll add the finishing touches tomorrow before the party. If I remember to get a picture, I’ll try to post it for y’all to see. I’ve made this before but it’s been several years. There’s nothing difficult about it, but it involved several steps and by the time I was done, I think I had most of the dishes in my kitchen dirty. It has chocolate hazelnut spread, a caramel layer, and a chocolate mousse layer, and is finished off with a thick layer of chocolate curls and a dusting of powdered sugar. Totally decadent and delicious. The base and sides are ladyfingers which I bought, so there’s no baking on this dessert. And still I had a mountain of dirty dishes, lol!
Our temperature has been dropping all day and some areas got a light dusting of snow, though I didn’t see any here. It’s supposed to be pretty cold for the next 7-10 days, I think. I can’t wait for winter to be over.0 -
I worked today and will tomorrow. I came home and didn't feel like exercising but I managed it by dividing it into two separate sessions with a total of 75 active minutes. The steps at work do not count as active minutes as they do not elevate heart rate, etc. I finally ended up with the equivalent of 11,476 steps or 4.56 miles. I have met my goal of exercising 5 days a week but have been doing 6 days the past two weeks.
We hit 70 degrees today; tomorrow evening, rain will turn to sleet, to ice and then possibly snow. Wonderful weather.0 -

The weight banging guy was a twenty something kid. He had trendy bleached blonde hair and looked like he thought the world revolved around him. The banging was from when he was adding or subtracting weights to the machine. He didn't seem to stay more than a few minutes on any machine. I think he was completely oblivious to how annoying he was. I wasn't near enough to him to ask him to tone it down. Whether it would have made a difference or not, who knows. I hope we don't show up at the same time again.0

Pam, the cake sound amazing. Your friends should be impressed by it's beauty and all the work that went into it.
Jean, good job sticking with the exercise, especially when you didn't feel like it. I was reading the new People magazine and it's the issue about how people lost half their size. The stories were inspiring and basically were about making small changes, sticking with it and building from there. None were quick fixes. Rachael Ray had 2 of the featured people on today and they both said it took about 7 years. They both started from around 40 pounds. The woman made an interesting smoothie with frozen mango, pineapple and banana. She added cauliflower, chia, flax and spices to it. The recipe is on the website. It sounded pretty good.0 -
Here is a picture of the cake.

Pam---That cake looks so, so good!!
Helene--On the exercise, it is now becoming a habit. I worked a full day yesterday and had some evening activities, so I chose to pass on the exercise yesterday as I would have to wait until around 8pm, and I was just concerned it might interfere with sleep.
This past week as of today, I got in 7 hours and 20 minutes of exercise. The funny thing is that I now feel more energy.
If you stream from Amazon and have a Prime account, this series is excellent: Why Are We Fat? The first episode deals with the contribution of processed foods to weight gain and diabetes. I am on the second episode which deals with exercise. The statistics given during the shows are eye-opening.0 -
Pam - that cake is AMAZING!!!
Jean - that amount of exercise is fantastic and if you're feeling more energy that's a truly good thing.
Helene - your experiences at the rec center remind me of that awful Geico commercial with the two steroid laden men are lifting weights and talking about "bro this" and "bro that". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIqGRMf3LYc
But at least they aren't clanking the weights.
Between work and taking care of the colonies and Jessicat and Jack I feel a trifle overwhelmed. It really isn't that much. But I miss having the majority of my days be 100% at home.0 -
Apparently if you copy and paste a you tube link you get the whole video.0
-
Maryanne--I love Geico commercials but I must have missed that one. My favorite one is of the deer off the side of the road looking at an "injured" car with the deer saying, "Where there is one, there is another." (or something like that)
As to taking care of everyone, it is understandable that you miss the old routine.0 -
All I can say about the cake is, wow, that' impressive. Jean, I've heard that doing regular exercise gives you more energy and you're proving that to be true. I don't think I've seen that Geico commercial but Planet Fitness has a couple of commercials with similar gym guys. How is Jack doing? We had a bit of a cold snap today. I ended up doing laundry, making chicken soup and staying cozy inside.0
