I've started logging day 5. Today was Quaker Overnight oats raisin and walnut. It's a little sweeter than I like my oatmeal but it was super filling. I bought a variety of flavors on sale. I keep forgetting to add the milk the night before which explains why I just had the first cup today. Yesterday, I had a NS breakfast bar and I had to have a snack a couple hours later. I think the oatmeal will stick with me longer.
My S key sticks so if my posts look strange, mentally add an s to any inappropriate words.

Maryanne, who's feeding the colonies while you recover?

Maryanne--Thanks for the info on eating "dated" NS food. I may do this for a week for a break from the other routine.

Helene--Keep up the great work on posting. It will become a habit.

I have an appointment with my primary physician tomorrow for the routine follow-up and prescription refills. Today, I went through some storage to determine if things were worth keeping. I found all my diplomas and looked at them again to revisit those times. I found in my high school diploma a copy of my classes for my senior year....heavy on math and science: solid geometry, trigonometry, chemistry.

Didn't sleep well last night. The cat kept getting me up every two hours. I suspicion that there was a cat visiting the deck as I had to calm Midnight down yesterday afternoon. The cat disappeared when I opened the door to the deck, but that doesn't mean it didn't come back

I have my appointment with the primary this morning. I hopped on the scale and was rewarded with a one pound gain. It is a losing battle.

Maybe it's a stress pound because you knew you had to go to the doctor. My scale hasn't budged at all. I may be trying that salmon dinner tonight. I'll bet it will be gone in a couple of day. You certainly didn't eat an extra 3500 calories. Good luck at the doctor.

The original caretaker whose cancer is in remission. She had offered some time back to take it all back but I'd talked her into letting me keep 4 days.

Maryanne--I love the memes, but especially the "Country Roads" one.

I am back from the doctor's office. All is on track but since I haven't had a bone scan in several years, I will be having one on Wednesday. My BP was 110/60 in his office. How is that for "White Coat Syndrome?"

That's an excellent reading. I hope I do as well Thursday at my primary care appointment. My usual doctor is out on maternity leave so this doctor is a stranger to me. My last 2 doctor have been women so it will be strange seeing a male doctor as well.
You're not doing your 4 days while you're still recovering? I'm figuring you mean when you are healed and finished therapy. I love the West Virginia meme with Midnight's cousin singing along. Ha Ha
Day 6 of logging food and eating healthy. I'm snacking on hummus and snap peas and carrot right now.

Helene--Congrats upon Day 6 of logging and eating healthy and for a good choice for a snack.

I am on Day 52 of logging food consecutively.

My poor niece waited all day for her colonoscopy procedure and was then told that there was a scheduling mixup and they can’t do it until tomorrow. Of course, that means she went without eating since yesterday morning and won’t be able to eat anything tonight unless she does the prep again. So far her husband and her mom are not impressed with this hospital. Yesterday the head resident tried to discharge her because she was stable, before any tests were done. Staff Sergeant hubby invited the doctor out into the hall and told her there was no way he was taking his wife home until they had answers about the cause of the bleeding and a treatment plan to address it. He keeps detailed notes about everything that occurs, discussions with the doctors, medications, etc. I suspect that makes some of the medical staff nervous, but I think it’s a good thing. I hope this scheduling “mixup” wasn’t retaliation for his assertiveness.

I’m still plugging along trying to lose weight. I’ve been up and down but staying around the same weight for the past 10 days or so. One day I’m up half a pound and the next I’m down. I suspect that my dabbling with low carb while still partially doing NS is the reason. I probably need to commit to one or the other to see real results. I don’t have much NS food left, so once it’s gone I’ll try low carb 100%. As long as my weight doesn’t start climbing consistently I won’t worry about it.

That's horrible Heather had to go through that. The resident sounds like he had no idea what her situation was. Thank goodness for her husband. I hope they have her scheduled for early morning since she hasn't been able to eat. Sending prayer that everything goes right tomorrow. Thank goodness her husband is so vigilant.

Heather did get her colonoscopy this morning and it didn’t show anything problematic. She is now undergoing anbarium CT scan of her stomach and after that she may get to go home. She will do the virtual colonoscopy where she swallows a pill that contains a camera and that may give them a better idea of what is going on in her small intestine. This is considered an outpatient procedure. I’m a little anxious that they are sending her home before seeing how she tolerates solid food, but I know she is more than ready to get out of the hospital.

Wow, I'm hoping they figure it out soon! The strongest of positive thoughts continuing to head out. It's good her husband is keeping top on everything, everything you read tells you to do exactly that.

Pam--I really hope they have an answer for your niece's distress before they release her to go home.

Maryanne--Logging the food has become a habit. Love your memes. The escape key doesn't work for me either.

I went to the city today, had lunch at the Outback, and since I had not had a glass of wine for almost two months, I had one...and all of this was logged. By the way, the Outback's 6 oz sirloin with a side of steamed veggies is very low in calories and if you are doing low carb, it is a great selection.

60 active minutes of exercise, part in morning today walking near mal and 45 minutes this evening exercising while watching TV. The pedaling does get the heart rate up.

Have a bone scan in the afternoon.

Today, I'm trying to start the routine of getting in the 8 glasses of water. I don't have a problem with other fluids such as coffee and diet Mountain Dew but water is a challenge. I put a flavor enhancer in the water so hopefully that will work.

My niece went home yesterday. They still have no answers but she is feeling 1000% better, so that’s a big plus. She was advised to be much more proactive in the case of another flare up of her Crohn’s disease and I think she will be much more vigilant about the dietary recommendations for the illness than before. She’s very weak and I’m sure that it will take awhile to get her strength and energy back. Luckily, her job as a school secretary means she has the summer off, so she will have a couple of months to regain her strength.

Jean, I struggle with drinking the recommended amounts of water. I find it easiest to just fill a 12 ounce glass with cold water and then “chug” it down a couple of times a day. I also count the ice in my drinks in that water recommendation, lol!

Pam--I do hope all goes well with your niece when she goes home. It will take time to recover, and I hope she adheres to the dietary regulations. It is so easy after a long period of time to become lax but I'm sure her memories of this experience will help keep her on track.

I found drinking the water with a straw made it easier to get it down. No idea why that worked for me, but it did. I also tried to drink a glass of water with meals so that got 3 out of the way pretty easily. I count tea and coffee (drink both black) as water as well. Putting a slice of lemon help flavoring the water. I've also heard of putting slices of cucumber in the water for a refreshing summer drink but I've never tried it.

Helen--If I could count black coffee as water, I would easily get my water out of the way. I drink about ten cups a day.

My primary who also happens to have a kidney specialization said that coffee is not a good substitute as it acts as a diuretic and removes essential water from the kidneys needed for good functioning. Although my lab results looked good, he took one look at two of them and automatically said, "You're not drinking enough water." He then said coffee shouldn't count for more than 4 and then explained why. If you consume more than 4 cups of coffee a day, it creates the diuretic effect. It can count but it shouldn't be the full expected amount a day.
