Jean, I think there’s a NS refugees forum here on MFP that Michelle might be on. You might try reaching out on it to see if she or anyone else who is on it might remember her plateau buster.

We knew dolphins are smart. Making smaller pieces of paper shows that. Good for them.

Thanks for the info. I'm actually a member of that site but haven't looked at it for a long time.

    That is one smart dolphin,

This is how to calculate your estimated Total Daily Energy Expenditure (Calories Burned) on usual day based upon the info you provide. The goal to lose is to eat 15-20% less than you burn. My TDEE is 1316. At 20% less that would mean eating 263 calories less or 1316 minus 263 which is 1053 calories a day.

The results of all my lab tests posted to the patient portal yesterday afternoon.

My Total cholesterol is now 160 and all the sub categories are in the normal range. I considered this a great accomplishment since for years I have been over 210, dropping down to 190+ last year. In addition, all the other lab results were in the normal range except for three indicators of kidney issues, but that is nothing new.

I also am finally down another pound.

Jean, that's wonderful new about your cholesterol number. The exercise and dietary changes are probably playing a part in the reduction. o even though the scale sometimes seem stuck, you are doing good things for you body besides just weight loss. Keep doing what you've been doing. I'll bet the exercise is doing the most for you. When I went to Curves, I had the best cholesterol numbers of my life. They closed the facility and there went my best effort at exercise. Congrats too on the scale finally moving. What a good day for you.
I'm on the way to the chiropractor for an adjustment. I saw him last week and felt better for going. He felt I needed a follow up to make sure all the joints stayed in place.

Good job, Jean! Even when the scale isn’t moving as fast as we’d like, there are always other indicators that show you’re doing good things for your body. And you got the cherry on top of the sundae when the scale did move for you!

My scale also moved downward, finally. I’m now at 10.5 pounds lost since I started in January. It’s been slow, but I can definitely see a difference in how my clothes fit and I’ve lost most of the roll around the middle I’ve been carrying. I still want to lose about 10 more, but I’m happy with my progress so far.

I’m going this afternoon for a pedicure, then I’m getting a haircut which is long overdue. I think my last haircut was back in January or maybe February. I got quite a bit cut off and have been unhappy ever since. I don’t know why I ever cut my hair short as I hate it every time, but I get tired of it after awhile and get it cut. My friends all like it better short, but it drives me nuts. So I’ve been trying to let it grow out again and avoiding haircuts but it’s finally to the point that I can’t do much with it. Hopefully, I can just get it shaped up without losing too much length today.

Tomorrow I’m seeing Oceans 8 with my girlfriends, then we are going for Happy Hour. As often as we go to HH, you can imagine that this is a very happy group, lol!

Helene--I do hope your chiropractic appointment goes well. I think exercise plays an important part but I haven't been exercising that long as I had the tests the same week I started exercising. I've been very good about what I have eaten, however. I would like to lose some weight but I know that it will not change the size. It took me over 20 pounds off to go down one size.

Pam--Congrats upon your weight loss. Enjoy the Happy Hour with friends. You have something to celebrate.

This was today's effort as I'm getting back into the swing of it, and this was not done at the Senior Center:

The chiropractic visit went well. I'm feeling better with each appointment. The doctor had me stand with my back against the platform so he could work on my foot better. I've had chronic pain in the ball of my foot. I mentioned I've been having bouts of vertigo for several weeks and this maneuver would probably trigger it. I was right but it also was a good thing. The doctor is trained in the Epply technique which aims to reposition the crystal in the inner ear. It never occurred to me that he treats vertigo. It's too soon to know if the vertigo has improved yet. I see him again next week.

Helene--Glad the chiropractic visit went well. I do hope the vertigo improves as well as the pain in the foot,

I just got home from a lovely volunteer brunch. I made what I thought were pretty good choices. They had a big variety of pastries. I took a mini croissant. I had 1 slice of bacon, a spoonful of potatoes and peppers, scrambled eggs and a half slice of French toast. They had 2 sizes of plates; what looked like a platter and a salad sized plate. I used one of the small plates. Considering what I could have had, I thought I made reasonable choices. And I enjoyed seeing a number of friends I hadn't seen in ages.

Helene--I agree that you made good choices, plus the interaction with friends made for a good day.

Maryanne--I agree with the comment about the crow. Some students expect everything to be provided to them.

I saw a story about crows a few years ago while watching TV. It aid crows were the smartest birds. In the segment, a crow wanted a drink of water but the water was in a tall container so he couldn't reach the water. He dropped pebbles into the water until the level rose high enough for him to take a drink. It was impressive to watch it.

Jean, I went on the NS Refuge group to ask Michelle about her plateau buster. She responded quickly with the info. She said it should only used for a true plateau as when the scale is stuck for 2 week or more. Here's what she does:

Go out or prepare a salmon dinner. Yes, it has to be 4 ounces of salmon*. I can't promise results using any other fish.

Get or make it grilled -- no butter (TELL the waiter that).

    No carbs beyond your veggies.

Plenty of veggies -- no butter.

Do not add a fat serving (those on the Advanced Plan).

In other words -- have this as your complete dinner (in place of the NS dinner entree and the SmartCarb). Eat the rest of your day on plan.
Why does this work? My theory is that it is a major change to what we are used to eating with NS food. It is high in good fat, high in protein, and no carbs except what you get with your veggies. It shocks the metabolism and gives it a good ole kick start.

If you try it, she'd like to know if it worked. Since the scale just moved for you, you'd have to wait 2 weeks to see if you get stuck. Let u know if you try it and if it works.

Helene--Thanks for the info on the plateau buster. How often is that salmon dinner eaten? I tried to log in but apparently I had forgotten user name or password or both. Great story on the crow.

Helene--Thanks. I do the low carb thing and normally have a meal of salmon, tuna or tilapia one or two times a week with steamed veggies.

I had my first two physical therapy sessions this week. One of the first things the therapist told me is that she only has two more weeks. And as of this moment they do not have a replacement. Oh joy! So we've been looking on the Internet and have a couple places to call call Monday morning. She's given me exercises to do three times a day. There is nothing that hand does ordinarily that mine does as well as it did a month ago. But in at least one area – ability to make a fist, I'm already seeing some small improvement. I suspect it's going to be a long road back but really I already knew that.

Another week or two, the doctor said I could drive if I feel up to it. Being better able to make a fist gives me some confidence that I might be able to try that in a week or two.

Today I've been playing with the voice recognition software, trying to learn some new techniques.

Jean, you might try not having the salmon until you plateau. The trick is supposed to shock the system so if you've been eating salmon regularly, it wouldn't really be a shock.
Maryanne, that's good and bad news about the PT. You'd think they would have told you she was leaving before they started a new client. If they had a replacement on deck, that would be different. I hope you find a new facility and I'm sure you'll be asking if that person will be there through your whole therapy.
We bought a bunch of annuals at a 50% off sale so we'll be planting containers today. We have a beautiful day to do it. We've been alternating nice day with one or two crummy days. It's hard to believe it' almost summer. We never got out of the 60s yesterday.

Helene--I could trade weather with you. We are going to be in the mid-90s for the weekend and next few days. It took a while but it was like Momma Nature flipped a switch out of the cooler than usual temps. Thanks for the info. I also remember her saying to go out and order an off plan meal to shock the system.

Maryanne--I agree that you should have been alerted to the fact that there was no PT replacement before you began therapy. It is stressful enough undergoing PT without hunting new provider. I know you are looking forward to being able to drive

I'm doing some decluttering while watching Criminal Minds on Netflix. I always liked that show so I'm watching it from the beginning again.
