Helene, when I wanted to get off BP meds a few years ago I started keeping a daily log of my BP readings at home for about a month prior to my appt. I took the record with me and when she saw it she agreed that I didn’t need the drug any longer. If your higher readings are white coat syndrome, this might give you added ammunition to reject being put on meds. Can’t hurt and it might help.

Pam, that's a good suggestion. DH has a BP machine. so far, I've been able to convince my last 2 doctors that I didn't need meds. The first one left the practice last year so I switched to DH' doctor. We both love her. The appointment was supposed to be with her but she went on maternity leave last week. She'll be back in September. o we'll ee the doctor covering for her. We've never met him. My thing with the BP meds is so many people have side effects. o if I don't really need them, I don't want to expose myself to possible side effects.

I'm meeting a friend for lunch in a bit. DH and I were really close friends with her mom. The mom passed away suddenly last summer. We had been at the house for a family dinner the day before she died. he didn't feel well that day but none of us realized she had a massive infection. Her daughter live in Boston but still comes down to the Cape for hair appointments. he usually gives us a call to see if we want to get together for dinner or a movie. She's just down for the afternoon this time so I'm just meeting her for lunch. I'm glad we've been able to stay in touch. It would have been important to her mom.

I was really worried that my white coat hypertension might derail my wrist surgery. They just called it 'borderline' and cleared me anyway. At the surgery place it actually wasn't bad. I think by then I was too exhausted to worry.

I watched America's Got Talent the other day. The first act was a mother/daughter who trained cats. Simon C, who is a dog person, asked them why? Anyway, the cats were amazing. You can watch it On Demand or perhaps it's online. Since they're the first act, you don't even have to watch the whole show. You're gonna love it!

Week 3 of the dedication is beginning. I have lost 6 pounds in the last two weeks, 4 pounds the first week and 2 pounds the second week. It is time for the stall to set in. My current weight is the lowest it has been in over 25 years.

Congratulations Jean. That's fabulous. While I hope you don't hit the stall, remember that you're still at your lowest weight in 25 years. Be proud of that and enjoy it.

Thanks for the comments. I thought I would add exercise today but procrastination set in on that. Instead, I've been shredding papers, and also paying the State my quarterly estimated tax. It comes in and it goes out!

Maryanne--I hope the flooding isn't bad in your location. We are expecting thunderstorms, and it is beginning to get dark.

This article is very good but it is long. It has some great info:

I am playing with voice recognition software. The strangest thing about it is that it does not capitalize the same as spellcheck. Otherwise, it seems to be pretty useful.

Jean, that article was very good, though a bit repetitive in places. My takeaway was that calorie counting is the least helpful method and low carb is the best way to go, both for weight loss and maintenance. The one question I have that wasn’t addressed has to do with how frequently we should be eating. I know NS and many other plans recommend eating up to 6 smaller meals and snacks per day, but I really dislike that approach. For me, it results in never feeling satisfied and constantly thinking about food, which leads to feeling hungry almost all of the time. I think I do better with 3 reasonably sized meals and occasionally a snack before bedtime if I’m feeling hungry. I would have liked to see that addressed in this article. My sister and her family are currently eating a low carb diet and she reported that her husband lost 10 pounds the first week and she lost 5. They lost a bit less the second week but continued to lose. I think I may give it a try once I’ve finished my NS stash.

Pam--I don't necessarily think one size fits all. My doctor years ago recommended South Beach which is a type of low carb with high protein isn't restrictive like keto or the severe low carb.

In answer to your question about frequency of eating, the big medical proponent of low carb as well as keto for those who choose to go that low, says that hunger is a guide and that eating frequently is not necessary. I signed up for the two week thing just to see what all was available but I didn't pay for the full membership. The site as it is provides a great deal of info as did the emails if you choose to sign up for them.

I am doing a type of low carb my own style with no more than 50g a day, and that includes the Lessman chocolate squares with a cholesterol fighter in it. The most amazing thing is that I have no urges for bad things, and I rarely eat a mid-morning snack or an afternoon snack. I do have a late evening snack high in protein. The carbs on a low carb diet come primarily from veggies that are not root vegetables.

I doubt very much that I would sign up for the dietdoctor site but time will tell.

I am in the posting mood this morning. I'm off to the Senior Center to see how the fitness area is. I used to go there a couple of years ago, but quit when work started because they close up at 3:30pm.

20 min on recumbent bike; 10 min on treadmill. Cooling off now. I was the only person using the equipment. They have ten treadmills, ten recumbent bikes, spin cycles, weight lifting machines, stair climber.

After a week of much fluctuations with my weight, mostly in an upward direction, this morning I was shocked when I got on the scale and registered a full pound lower than yesterday. I had to laugh at myself because yesterday I read the article that Jean posted a link to, and then spent time looking into low carb recipes. So my first thought was, low carb really works! Then I remembered that I didn’t actually start low carbing yesterday; I only thought about it. Lol, the power of suggestion!

    Maryanne-Cute photo!

Jean, the fitness area at the Senior Center sounds like a great option. You can use it on non-work days and the summer. Is school out yet? The kids have a couple more weeks here but they start after Labor Day.

Helene--School is out today and starts back first week of August.

The Center has ten treadmills, ten recumbent bikes, three spinner bikes, two ellipticals, a stair climber, and a weight machine

I'LL bet you're looking forward to the summer off. When I was working, I worked every summer. With all the tourists coming to town, it was our busiest season. Having the summer of is a retirement perk for me. Hard to believe, but I'M retired 7 years.

Helene--I actually like work. I could live with 9 or 10 week terms with a two week break in between. Summer this year is the dreaded "see what you can get rid of" time, something I procrastinate about during the regular year. I have things I have forgotten.

I got up at 6am and put the trash out. I didn't get the desired 6 bags of stuff put out but I did get three 30 gallon bags and a big selection of boxes.

I did the mid-week scale check. No weight lost so far this week.

    Maryanne--You find the best pics!!

I just got back from the Senior Center. 45 minutes on the recumbent bike and 5 miles. The funny thing is that the calorie burn on the bike was only one calorie different from the burn I got from entering the info into the FitBit app.
