Maryanne--Those statistics are unreal. I assume there was speculation as to the reason.
I know it is early but I was checking out hotels in Sydney for the dates we are going. Some were being "sold out" as I looked at the type of room I needed. I decided to go ahead and book it now as it can be cancelled 24 hours in advance. I stayed at this hotel the last time I was there as it is in the center of all the activities. It is a Travelodge Hotel but is rated 4 stars. I really enjoyed it the last time I was there. The restaurant in it was excellent as was the service and hotel room, etc. The staff was great! $1700 right now for 7 nights, but this is Australia and it is not a typical Travelodge, but is less expensive than some hotels in the center.0 -
I just returned from the family's graves about 20 miles away. It is a sad time but also a time full of memories. The families used to get together for a picnic, etc. about this time. At this time, however, only the descendents are left and are scattered far distances.
Maryanne--I saw the flooding in Ellicott City. I hope you weren't affected.0 -
I see the Maryland flooding is being called a 1 in 1000 year event by the Weather Channel.0

Glad you could remember your family!
We have water in the basement - no surprise!0 -

Maryanne--Water in the basement is bad but not as bad as the pics I saw of Ellicott City. Love the pics.

I had to look up the Cape statistic for violent crime after reading Baltimore stats. We have 15 towns and the largest towns had 2-3 homicides in 2016. I feel very safe where I live. Hyannis has quite a bit of drug crimes but most of the gang member are now serving prison terms. There was a big crack down 2 years ago. We have more of a problem with DUI drivers.
The sun jut came out after rain all day Sunday, carrying over into Monday morning. We had no holiday plans but I feel for people who drove up for the weekend for crumby weather. They had to fight traffic coming and going.
Jean, when is your trip?0 -
Helene--I had to check out the statistics also. Our State Capital City is one of the top 50 in the nation . The trip? Last of March 2019. I am using frequent flier miles for the ticket to Australia, so to get the shortest flight time and flights I wanted I had to book early. In fact, I had to delay my planned departure one week because in one day the available free ticket for the desired route doubled in required miles from 80,000 miles to 160,000 miles. That increase is the equivalent of two free tickets at the lowest amount. By delaying it a week, I got it for 80,000 miles.
Maryanne--I heard that figure again tonight in reference to the Ellicott City flooding. Apparently two years ago, it was so severe that they called it a 1 in 1000 years incident but now it happened again two years later.0 -
It really makes you wonder how global warming is effecting all these weird climate situation that used to be unusual.
I've been experiencing vertigo for almost a week. I had a very severe case about 5 years ago. I went to the doctor then and got a prescription for motion sickness drugs. The drug helped but didn't cure the condition. A friend suggested going on You Tube to find self help exercises to reposition the crystals in my ear. I followed the instructions and it cleared up. It cropped up again last week but not as bad as the first time. I get it in the left ear when in bed. It happens when I lie down or get up from lying down. It wasn't as scary as the first time I had it because I know why it's happening and that it stop in a few seconds. I'm going to give the self help exercise a try to see if it will go away.0 -

Helene - here's hoping you can deal with the vertigo quickly!
Pam - good one, A friend clipped my nails today, Not a prince but helpful!
Jean - I agree we're seeing evidence of climate change, Stupid gov't!0 -
Did you get polish on the nails or just clipping? Just wondering. I got a badly needed manicure last week. I'm sporting sparkly lavender nails at the moment. I do the dipping powder so it easily lasts a month without chips.0
-
Helene--I have no idea what the person uses that does my nails. I don't do color but she uses about 3 different bottles of clear polish, base coat and top coat. Mine lasts a month. You might want to see the doctor if this vertigo continues, especially if you start having balance problems.
Great! What's new? A school shooting video game to hit the market. The Uber app will now have a 911 emergency call number to protect riders from Uber driver mischief, etc. I love the world in which we live.
I'm supposed to keep an orthopedic appointment tomorrow. I worked the afternoon today.

I looked up some self help exercises for the vertigo. I wanted to try one called the half somersault but It requires getting down on the floor. I have bad knees and was afraid I wouldn't be able to get back up. DH has a cardiologist appointment today which I'll go to with him. I'm thinking of trying the exercise when I get home. It looks more like a yoga pose to me rather than doing a somersault. If I do it and don't see results, I'll go to the doctor. It only bother me in bed, when I roll to the left. Because of the dizziness workshops we attended on FL, I know it will only last for seconds. I wait for it to pass and then it goes away until bedtime. It's a lot less severe than the episodes I had five years ago. Back then, I couldn't walk a straight line. Knowing the cause makes it less scary to me.0

I have had severe pain at times and could barely flex right index finger or touch things with the finger without pain or sometimes almost drop something because of sudden pain. It is a small issue compared to what afflicts many. However, if right handed and frequently using that hand and finger, it is quite literally a painful nuisance. Bottom line is that the joint has deteriorated to the point the finger needs assistance or buddy strapping as well as otc drugs such as Advil. The problem is that I cannot take Advil often because of the blood thinner I am on. I do know that middle finger typing is a very slow process. I'll likely take wrap off when typing.0
-
Jean, so sorry to hear your finger is giving you such pain. Does applying heat give you any relief?0
-
Jean, I’m so sorry about your finger. I’m sure that must be very painful and inconvenient. I’ve been buddy taping 2 of my toes for months and it definitely helps with my neuropathy pain, but it is a bit of a nuisance. However, I’m sure it’s not nearly as much of a nuisance as buddy taping your index finger.
I had not planned to order any more food from NS but they had such a good sale over the weekend that I decided to order some items. I’m planning to start transitioning back to eating regular food, but I really like some of the NS breakfast bars and the frozen lunch hamburger and grilled chicken sandwiches. They were offering 50% off and free shipping, so I decided to stock up on those items that I liked. I’m close to running out of some items, so the timing was good.0 -
Jean - that's awful!0

Love the cartoon. You find the funniest items. It brings back memories of the cats waking DH. I used to "play dead" in bed so they would concentrate their effort on him. And it worked!
We went to DH's cardiology appointment yesterday. he was very pleased with how he looked. As per her advise, DH got a FL cardiologist. He will see each of the once a year, splitting his care between them. Afterwards, we treated ourselves to a delicious lunch at a restaurant that overlooks Hyannis Harbor. The weather was gorgeous and the restaurant was uncrowded. That will change in a few few weeks. DH had GF clam chowder and a lobster roll on a GF roll. I had lobster bisque and a chopped Cobb salad. We watched the ferry boats coming and going and enjoyed the view and ocean breezes.0 -

Oh that sounds so good!
DH deigned to take me along to the grocery store today; nice to get out of the house. First tine since the surgery. But grocery shopping with him is get in/get out. No browsing!0 -
Maryanne--That cartoon is hilarious. The spinner doesn't have the option of patting face or clawing ankles if face patting doesn't work.
Helene--The lunch sounds delicious especially when accompanied by a great view.
Pam--I saw the sale promoted and it was a good one for stocking up on items you like. I'm debating any future ordering. The buddy taping of the index finger does help eliminate pain as it discourages some activity of the finger. Right now, I have it off after wearing it all day. I'm learning not to rely upon that finger when I can use left hand to turn keys, etc.

We just got back from running errands. We stopped for lunch at a nice, local restaurant that has a good GF menu. DH ordered a GF pizza and I had soup and salad. I had a slice of his pizza along with my salad. I'm trying to be conservative with food this month. I have a doctor's appointment at the end of the month to check my BP. I had a good reading at the dentist last week, 131/80. I tend to run higher whenever I see the doctor. I'm hoping if I lose a couple of pounds this month and do deep breathing to relax before the BP gets taken. I'd like to avoid BP medication especially because I don't think I need it. I have white coat syndrome and that' the only it shows higher than normal.0

Maryanne--I love the password meme. I've had to change mine twice this week. I try to save mine in a notes section on my cell phone.
Helene--Good old white coat syndrome for the blood pressure. I like to sit and visualize a peaceful beach scene with the waves coming in. Good luck on the appointment. I have to monitor my blood pressure and it runs fairly close to what the doctor measures, unless they don't give me much time to recover from getting up and walking fast to the room where the nurse takes the vitals.
