I decided today to get back into exercising. I did two 15 minute segments while watching Bosch! I should finish season two today.

I spent 40 minutes out in 90 degree temps trimming boxwood as it was the first chance I have had to do it while feeling good. The boxwood is half done and there are all kinds of trimmings to be picked up plus fine-tuning the trimming before I tackle the other boxwood. Something tells me that I needed a break, so I came in and cooled down while finishing season 2 of Bosch. We have a severe thunderstorm warning out now.

I'm always checking the frozen breakfast section at the grocery store and today I found something called Kodiak power flapjacks. 100% whole grain (not whole wheat), 190 calories for 3, 14 grams of protein. I bought a box to try. I don't even see them on the Kodiak web site so really new???

They also had at least one flavor of these shelf ones - I can't even imagine what these would be like http://www.kodiakcakes.com/flapjack_onthe_go/

Maryanne--I've never heard of those flapjacks. Let us know how they work out. Also, that little giraffe is so cute!

Today's trivia. This is my FitBit Cardio Fitness score, but they also show what it might be if you lose 5 pounds. I have a low resting heart rate which contributed to this score.

    Jean - excellent indeed!

Apropos of next to nothing - I watched a Dateline the other night where the most likely murder suspect (aka the husband) solidified his defense with his fitbit!

Some days, especially days I feed, I just like to nuke breakfast, eat and run. I was debating buying another bag of buttermilk pancakes but found those instead!!

    Maryanne--Love the spider control agent!!

Breakfast nuke and run? Is there any other way. I jokingly said that because my breakfast is usually either a Kellogg's Special K sandwich or Great Value Equivalent, rotated with nuked instant oats. Sometimes, when I'm in a pinch, I'll drink a Premier Protein shake or eat a Pure Protein bar. I really don't enjoy cooking anymore as it is just me and has been for a long time. It is so much easier to grill something easy or to nuke it.

At first I thought you meant actually running, like jogging. Lol. Then I realized, not in this group. I used to do the eat and run when I worked. Now I'm a retired lady of leisure. I eat and get a cup of coffee while I watch Kelly and Ryan.

Helene--Your mindset was on exercise just for a moment. I also have my breakfast and coffee but with the morning news. You would think that would cause indigestion.

Maryanne--I am so sorry about the broken wrist. Hang in there!!

Maryanne, I’m so sorry about your wrist! I hope it heals quickly and the pain is manageable. I look forward to hearing how you did it when you’re able to type comfortably.

Not much going on here. It’s already getting very warm, with summery temperatures. It’s been an unusual spring for us with almost no rain and no tornado warnings. Typically at this time of the year, thunderstorms are common and they are usually accompanied by tornado warnings and/or hail that can get as large as softballs. Not that I’m complaining about this, but it’s definitely not our usual weather pattern.

I’m still losing weight, but it’s slow going. I’m starting to think about and plan how I will continue once I’m done with the NS food I have on hand. I will not be ordering any more at this point.

Helene, have a safe trip home.

Maryanne, so sorry to hear about your injury. Did you break it in a fall? I hope you're not in a lot of pain.
We got home lat night after several days in NJ. The weather there was lousy and I thought we'd have to ride 300 miles in the rain. We ran out of the bad weather in CT so the ride was better than I expected. We're pretty tired today. We spent the day doing a few errands, like buying groceries, picking up the mail and going to the bank. And I'm catching up with season finales that I missed by watching therm On Demand.
We had very little food in the house. I thought of Jean when I had a packet of oatmeal that I found in the cupboard. It's not my usual choice but it was filling and tasty.

Up bright and early to watch all the Royal Wedding coverage. I'm not a fashion expert but some women could have made better choices as some were not figuring flattering.

Helene--Glad you arrived home safely. A trip such as that would be tiring, not to mention having to take time to grocery shop.

Pam--I think we have been getting your typical weather. Good job on the continued weight loss, and also planning ahead to continue the loss or to maintain it.

We stopped at a diner a few hours from home Thursday. We had a good meal and an hour's break from the drive. Our GPS gave us strange routes to follow. For some reason, it directed us through downtown Baltimore. I don't know if it was because of an accident or construction. Or maybe it was a mistake. DH complained the whole route. I found it very interesting. We went by the sports stadiums and by the inner harbor. The architecture was interesting. I'd never been to Baltimore before.

Helene - I'm not sure if I'd ever get used to gps. I like to pick my route. Downtown is nice but you don't have to stray far to see not so nice. I hope you waved in my direction.

Pam - we had a worker coming and I was carrying a cat upstairs to sequester and I tripped, Urgent care sent me to the ER. The "reduction": was maybe the most pain I've ever experienced in my life but not too bad now, I see an ortho onThurs. I may need surgery. DH is being a huge help. I sprained the other hand so I'm still experimenting with what I can do.

Good job on the weight loss!

I took a fall a few weeks ago in FL going up the stairs. I must have missed the top step. Like Maryanne, I had something in my hand o I wan't holding on to the railing. I landed hard on one knee but I was luckier than Maryanne. Nothing was broken but it was pretty painful for several weeks. I still get a twinge now and then. I saw the chiropractor a couple of weeks after the fall. I was actually there for a general adjustment for my whole body to get ready for the ride. He aid my knee cap was slightly out of position. I could feel the difference after the adjustment. I knew nothing was broken because I was able to stand up and hobble right after the fall. I won't make the mistake of not using the railing again. Lesson learned the hard way. I hope you can avoid surgery.

Helene--GPS can also take into account traffic density and congestion at specific times of the day, and how feeder routes affect interstates. I've been on interstates that were slow as molasses during times people were heading home from work. Also, if you go off the pre-determined route to get to a restaurant, the GPS will sometimes recalculate the route based upon whether you have it set to fastest or shortest route.

Maryanne, I’m sure that was not a fun experience at all. When they reduced my ankle fracture, they put me under so I wasn’t aware of the pain. The doctor told my DH and SIL that they should go back to the waiting room because they wouldn’t want to hear me scream from the pain. Apparently, the drug doesn’t keep you from feeling the pain, but you aren’t conscious when it happens. I just recall waking up and feeling like I was on some kind of psychedelic trip. Everything in the room was spinning and rolling, just like the picture used to do on old TVs. However, it wore off fairly quickly and they sent me home that night. I do hope surgery won’t be required for your wrist. Glad your DH is being helpful, especially since both arms are impaired.

I use the GPS in my car a lot and really like it, however, all of the maps are now outdated so it is less useful than it used to be. I looked into downloading newer maps last year but it is ridiculously expensive. It would have been cheaper to buy a new portable GPS device. What I use now is the free WAZE app on my phone and it works great. It takes into account reported accidents as well as traffic density, warns you about hazards ahead and police. As long as I remember to keep an extra charging cord in the car, it is a great option.

I have a Garmin which has free updates, 4 times a year. It is great. I got it from Amazon for around $125 and has a 5 inch screen, lane assist, etc. The frequent updates really help with changes in traffic patterns, hotels, restaurants, etc. It doesn't have the traffic warning feature which reports accidents ahead, etc. as that is not something implemented much around here.

I get what I fondly call "the Michael Jackson Drug," when I have procedures. Less than a minute from injection, you have no memory of what takes place but you are aware as you might have to respond to questions, etc. You wake up in recovery with no memory of what took place. Propofol works wonders.

Our GPS is built in. The strange thing is sometimes we get a warning of traffic ahead or of an an accident. Or it will say traffic ahead, do you want an alternate route? We got no explanation of the detour through Baltimore. And I did think of Maryanne as we drove through the streets. I also thought of a favorite old show, Homicide, Life On the Streets. It was filmed in Baltimore and the row houses were a prominent feature.

Maryanne, I think anyway you can manage to type at all is just fine!

The drug they used on me for my ankle reduction was Ketomine. I remember the name of it because when the anesthesiologist told me that was what he was going to use I responded with “Isn’t that what they give race horses to make them run faster?” He looked really shocked and said not many people know that. I have absolutely no idea WHY I knew that, but it immediately came to mind as soon as I heard the name of the drug. For other procedures I have also had the Michael Jackson drug and tolerate it well, although it seems to really knock me out as I have no awareness at all during the procedures.

I have built-in GPS in my car as well, but now that my car is 6 years old, the maps are outdated. I’m sure newer versions have better features than mine. The ability to update the maps without paying exorbitant fees would be a plus, IMO. When I buy a new car that is something I will definitely investigate and if that isn’t an option I may just forgo the built in GPS and go with the portable model such as Jean purchased.

I woke up to thunder and rain this morning, which was most welcome. Well, I could have done without the thunder waking me, but the rain was much needed. It had been a restless night anyway, starting around 4 am because that’s when DH started snoring. Every time I would get him to change positions and stop, just as I was falling back to sleep he’d flop back over onto his back and start up again. It’s a miracle that I didn’t smother him with my pillow, lol!
