Our absentee ballots came today so I'd better do some research!!0

What a great canine mother to rescue her puppies but then also to take them to the rescue truck.
Sometimes, with these elections, the choice is difficult. Once they get elected, will they follow through? There are too many variables to rely upon promises made to gather votes.0 -

In the minor races, I want to make sure I don';t vote for someone whose candidacy is a stunt, e.g. I've done my homework on the big races. I was torn between 2 candidates for governor. Decided to vote with DH so we don't cancel each other out.

Maryanne--"Let Daddy Get It For You" is adorable and appropriate for today.
I'm down a half pound, so that is some progress.0 -
I was thinking about Michelle’s plateau buster. It seems to me that the basic intent is to surprise your body with a meal it hasn’t had for awhile that still fits somewhat within the parameters of whatever diet plan you’re following. So if you’ve been having salmon regularly that wouldn’t work, but perhaps you could have something like a small steak and baked potato, for example, instead. I haven’t actually hit a plateau yet where I’ve stayed at the same weight for 2 weeks or longer, but I think if I do I may try something like that.
DH was craving a hamburger last night, so we went to a new place that recently opened near us. I ordered the child’s burger and sweet potato fries. I laughed a little when I got my burger because it was a normal size bun but the meat patty was less than 2 inches wide and thin. I had about an inch of bun all around my patty, it was so small. I loved the sweet potato fries and ate everyone of them. DH liked his burger, but we both felt the place was too loud and crowded. I might go back for a late lunch sometime when it isn’t so crowded and I’m not on a diet, lol! The scale still moved downward a little this morning, so I guess I didn’t do too much damage.0 -
Pam--Congrats upon the small loss; any loss is a good one. Craving a burger? If you are doing the low carb thing, a lean burger 4oz without bun is very acceptable or use a wheat bun. The carbs are low with high protein. I've been having two a week since I started on this latest effort.. When I eat at the Outback, I have either the 6oz sirloin with steamed veggies or the tilapia with steamed veggies. Both of those are very in calories, low in carbs and high in protein. Just don't touch their wonderful bread.
I had a 4oz lean burger grilled, no bread with steamed broccoli for dinner. I am very satisfied. I eat a variety of foods as long as I keep the carb count down for the day. It is more along the approach advocated by the South Beach Diet in its book. All of my doctors recommended that approach but it didn't click with me when I first tried it. I think it was all the hard boiled eggs for snacks during the first two weeks that got to me.
I log faithfully everything I eat on MFP and plan my day's meals in advance by pre-logging them so I can see the numbers for carbs, protein, and fat. I try to keep the carbs around 50g a day. Once you find the right combo, it seems to help with urges. I have snacks (the wrong kind) that are in the house but I have not touched them in 4 weeks. I just don't have the urge for them. I do have an evening snack of a protein drink or protein bar which I have already included the carb count in the daily planning.
One of the things that bothers me is losing weight at my age. The skin is not as elastic and doesn't shrink. When I hold up my arms a certain way, the skin hangs or wrinkles badly. I may not lose much weight but I am eating healthy which paid off with the great blood tests.

I’m still working to finish off my NS stash before I go the low carb route, so it will be at least a couple of weeks before I switch over. I think it’s a very reasonable diet approach and shouldn’t be too hard for me, except for breakfast. I’m not a big fan of eggs, so I’m still trying to figure out what alternatives will work for me for that meal. I’m much more of a pastry lover for my breakfast foods, but that means carbs, unfortunately.
I wasn’t really wanting a burger last night because I’ve been enjoying my frozen NS burgers, which are really very good. Small, but delicious. However, DH hasn’t been eating those, and he rarely mentions any cravings other than for Mexican food, so I figured I “owed” him the indulgence. I honestly would have enjoyed a NS burger as much as the one I had last night at the restaurant, although I really did love my sweet potato fries!0 -
Pam--Not a lover of eggs? Check this link out:

I don't mind the Southwestern Egg Beaters topped with salsa for eggs. I'm lazy so that works for me.0 -
I'm a big fan of eggs. I could have some form of them at breakfast every day. I looked at the links for the low carb recipes. They look pretty interesting and not all that difficult. There's a local blood drive today so I'm planning to donate. I think last fall was when I did my last donation. I didn't come across any local drives while I was in FL. I' sure they had them but just not in my area. I need a pedicure so maybe I'll do that after giving blood.0
-
Helene--I could have eggs everyday for breakfast also. I do hope the blood drive donation went well and that you rewarded yourself with a pedicure.
I was rewarded this morning with another pound down. After the first week's water loss, it has been a slow process but I have never felt hungry. I did have a couple of weeks in which the scale didn't budge much but I am now down 8 pounds in five weeks. This just shows 4 weeks.

Maryanne--Now that is what I call a real rope pulling contest! Wonder what zoo does that?

Jean, what do you attribute the loss to? Is it those candies you mentioned or just being low carb? Whatever it i, it's working well for you. I'm happy for you.
The blood donation went well. I remembered to be well hydrated before I went, so the nurse had no trouble finding a vein. I asked her for help getting up in case I had an attack of vertigo. She had me lay there for about 15 minute and got me something to drink. Thankfully, the vertigo didn't happen. And I did get a pedicure. My toe are a lovely shade of deep lavender to match the manicure I got a couple of week ago.
I went to a fashion show/luncheon this afternoon. It was at a lovely country club with a view of the ocean in the distance. I left there and got a haircut and picked up a prescription. Now I'm planning on doing nothing. It' pretty hot and humid today. Walking across the parking lot left me breathless so I'm listening to my body and relaxing.
The Island Getaway is very cute!

Helene--The chocolate squares one at each meal were to help with cholesterol. I think it is the low carb approach with some exercise added. I've logged my food every day and kept an eye on the number of carbs. There are days I am not perfect. I just feel good with what I am doing and that is as important or more important than any weight loss. I anticipate another slow down.
Your description of the fashion show/luncheon with the ocean view sounded like a great respite after the blood donation.

It really was a nice break from normal routine. The clothes were from J. Jill which is a national chain. The clothes were things my friend and I would actually wear. They had a lot of light weight sweaters over outfit. That would be useful when going paces with AC. Many stores and restaurants set their's way to cool o a sweater is a necessity.0
-
Helene--I so agree that some places have the AC set too cold or you are seated near a vent which makes it very uncomfortable. A light sweater or a jacket is a necessity sometimes.
61 Active Minutes of Exercise today with 44 in cardio and peak zones. The gap in heart rate chart is when I was charging the Fitbit, not when I was "checking out."

Jean, I love that you've found your exercise mojo. I'm still looking fir mine. Great job with what you've been doing. Congratulations on losing 8 pounds.0
-
Helene--Thanks! I hope you understand that the 8 pounds is the total since I switched to this routine, so it is 8 pounds in five weeks. I remember when I first started NS I lost ten pounds in 4 weeks and then after that I was lucky to average a pound a week with stalls.
I've found that my mini-bike does a good job of putting me in the cardio range, so it is "comfortable" to just pedal away at a good pace to keep me in the right range while watching TV. I increased the resistance on Sunday. Now, I don't notice the increase but Sunday, I could definitely tell it was harder to pedal.0 -
Slow and steady is the way to go. I think what you are doing this time is better than a quicker 10 pounds and then a stall. What you're doing now seems more sustainable. I think low carb and exercise is going to get you where you want to be.
Maryanne, have you found a new PT place yet?0 -
I just made barbecue one-handed! This recipe is very close to my mother's (her quantities are a little different): https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/92763/pennsylvania-coal-region-barbecue/

I did find a new PT place (at the hospital where DH used to work). My first appointment there is July 11 (the hand person at the new place is off the week of the holiday).I've been trying since Monday to get a copy of my prescription. Starting to get a little unamused.0

Jean-any forward progress is great! I don't think any of us are going to keep off weight lost in a crash diet for very long.0
