Maryanne & Jean, I was watching America's Got Talent on Demand last night. Check out A woman and her daughter had a trained cat act. Those cats were amazing. It's episode 1310. You'll really get a kick out of it. I think they were the first act so you don't have to watch the whole show.
I'll have to look for that!
I've been watching old episodes of shows like Criminal Minds, House, Law & Order - Criminal Intent, Without a Trace, etc. I am SO ready for the fall TV schedule to start. The last two summers have been a TV wasteland.0 -
I’m totally frustrated with my TV right now, or more accurately, my cable provider. In the past week I’ve spent at least 5 hours on the phone trying to figure out how to fix the issues I’m having without success. Now they have agreed to send out a technician, but he won’t be here until Friday morning. In the meantime, half of my frequently watched channels are either pixelated with garbled sound, or I get the message that that channel is unavailable. DH’s TV and channels work fine and the channels I’m having issues with are fine, so it’s definitely something specific to my TV setup. They sent me a new DVR box which I received and installed yesterday, but it made no difference. I spent over 2 hours last night on the phone with them only to be told in the end that I would have to call back this morning to ask for a network chat. When I did that this morning, I was on the phone for about 90 minutes, resulting in the decision to send a technician out for more troubleshooting. I’ve spoken with 3 of their service people so far and all were knowledgeable and professional, but the one I was talking with for 2 hours last night seemed to think I was someone who wanted to know his life story. By the end of the call I knew that he and his wife work opposite shifts so they barely see each other, they are raising their 7 year old grand daughter, where he went to high school, they have massive debt problems due to him being unemployed for 3 years after being laid off from NASA, and I could go on but I’m sure you get the idea of how that call went. I thought I was never going to get off that call!0

Pam, I would have been tempted to say I had to go and ended the call. I would have waited a few minutes, called back and got a different tech. I'm surprised he hared such personal info with you. Most calls of that nature start out by saying they are being recorded for service quality or something of that nature. Hi employers would get an earful of him spending time telling you his problems instead of cutting to the chase about your issues.0

This year, I skipped ahead to the judges cut episodes of AGT instead of watching from the beginning. That way, I only saw the good acts. So I've enjoyed it more.
I've been watching Younger on TV Land. It's about a 40 yr old woman who can't find a job because of her age. She starts passing for 27 and then is stuck with the lie. Sutton Foster is the star. I love her so that's why I watched. In the show, she's divorce with a college age daughter. Of course, she's dating younger guys who think she's their age.
It' a really smart show. I binge watched the first 4 season (12 shows per season) and I'm watching the current season weekly. It's only a 30 minute show so the time spent binging wasn't all that much.0 -
Helene, I had to wait on hold for almost an hour just to get to that guy for help, which is why I didn’t end the call and call back. Most of the personal info was shared while waiting for the DVR box or TV to respond to various interventions from his end. And yes, there were all the warnings about calls being recorded and monitored but this guy didn’t seem to care.0

I haven't seen a cable tech for years. I rarely have a problem but when I do, I just call and they send a signal to the cable box to do whatever is needed to be done.0

Jean, all 3 of the support people I spoke with tried multiple times to send a signal to my box remotely, but it didn’t correct the problem. The theory now is that there might be something wrong with the wiring or the cable itself, which can’t be fixed remotely. If it’s wiring, that could be expensive to repair due to the location of the wiring inside the wall behind a built-in entertainment center.0

Monday I took Indy to the vet. I had myself all tied up in knots because her rabies was late. I was terrified she'd bite someone. I told the tech my whole tale of woe. She said "we'll take all precautions". Then before I could open my mouth to reply she'd opened the carrier and reached in and pulled Indy out. Seriously, that's "all precautions"???????
Indy was good as gold. She was the whole 6 months she spent there. I think I'm the only one who's seen why she's unadoptable. But I still worried.
I was going to take her next week to get her teeth done but realized I should google how long the rabies vaccine takes to get to full strength. 14 days. So I postponed her dental. Not taking any chances!

Today I'm off to P/T. My therapist is at the beach this week so I'm seeing "Pixie". Who'd name a child that? Heather introduced me to her last Friday.
Tomorrow I have my annual oncologist visit. I had my annual CT scan done last month. I go to Hopkins because on their portal I can see all my results. So I already know they found nothing changed on the lung scan. The oncologist and I usually end up chatting about cats. Hopefully this year will be no different.
Then Friday P/T again.
Add in my 3 times a day exercise sessions and I feel like I get nothing done. I was checking out post surgery wrist exercises on the internet yesterday and found one expert that thinks I should be spending 2 1/2 hours a day doing exercises. No one has suggested that to me. I think before I leave P/T (which I'm imagining Medicare will want to be fairly soon although I could be wrong) I should get Heather to go over my at-home exercises. They tend to give you exercises but never revisit in any fashion.0 -
Maryanne, why do you think Indy is not adoptable? You've probably mentioned it in the past but I either missed it or forgot. I'll bet Pixie is a nickname rather than the name her parents gave Why don't you ask her. Just comment that it's an unusual name and ask if it's a nickname.0

Indy will sit on my lap very happily, if I'm sitting on the kitchen floor. Then suddenly she'll attack my arm. I've started covering my arm with old socks,0
-
Wow, I see what you mean. She must have had some bad experiences in her early life for her to lash out at someone she knows and likes well enough to it on your lap. Are you usually petting her when she lashes out? Maybe she's hyper-sensitive and too much petting feels like tickling to her? My cats were like that if you stroked their bellies. A few strokes was fine but after that, the paws would come up to let you know to stop or else.0
-
Pam--That would be an expensive repair, and one not to look forward to.
Maryanne--You are certainly making the rounds of all the health professionals for yourself as well as Indy.
Helene--Midnight only tolerates so many strokes and it varies. He will grab my arm with his teeth and look at me to give me the message of stop or I will actually bite.0 -
I can't relate what Indy does to anything in my experience. I've had stimulation biters - it's not that. I can't relate it to anything in particular. She doesn't even seem "mad". There's no heat behind it. I think she does it a whole lot less than she did at first but she still does it sometimes.
I've always had most of my doctor visits in July/August because (1) traffic is better (no school) and (2) if we're ever slow at work it's those 2 months. But of course then they mess you up sometimes by wanting to see you every 6 months all of a sudden.
I've been trying to move the cats up more into this time of year also but it will take awhile because I can only do rabies a month early. And of course this whole arm thing has slowed down my grand plan of moving up the cat appointments.0 -
I try to get all my appointments between June and October because of going to FL for several months. I've been pretty successful in moving things. I used to have one in April, one in May and one in November. The doctors were pretty accommodating because they know we go away for the winter.
Our traffic is bad in the summer but I can use local back roads to get to mot places. Fortunately, most of the tourists don't know those shortcuts.
DH had an eye appointment this morning. He has a film on one of his implants so he'll get a laser treatment to clear it up. We got in a couple of errands and then had lunch at a lovely restaurant right on the Cape Cod Canal. We had a table on the upper deck so we would watch boats ailing by through the Canal into Cape Cod Bay. It was the first nice, sunny day we've had in a week. It was so relaxing and the food was delicious.0 -
Sunshine two days in a row!! What a treat! It was in the 50s, however, this morning which definitely is not August type weather.
My specialist appointments are now 6 months apart up from the 3 months when I first started. I guess I "graduated." I have one next week to establish the time for the next cystoscopy, and my cardiology appointment is in early October.
I had a Great Value egg croissant sandwich for breakfast. I really like these but at 330 calories, they are higher than the Special K version.0 -
I'll bet the Great Value product was tastier than the Special K because of the croissant. I've been eating Just Crack an Egg products. I make them with Eggbeaters. Even with a piece of toast, it comes in under 300 calories. Has anyone seen Peppridge Farms sandwich thins in the store. I used to buy them for the 10 calories each. I can't find them in the store anymore. We have Arnold sandwich thins but they've make them thicker and they're 150 calories. And I don't like them as well. I'm wondering if it' jut my local stores that aren't carrying them.0

Hallelujah, my TV cable problem is fixed! Turned out to be a problem caused by old equipment left behind in the attic by our previous provider. Why it just started causing problems now is a mystery since we changed providers last December, but I don’t care as long as it’s fixed now.
Since I’m just not a fan of eggs for breakfast, I usually eat a breakfast protein bar and a small glass of milk. Quick and easy, and the calorie count is around 250. I like the Zone Perfect bars, but sometimes have a hard time finding the flavors I like. They have around 10 grams of protein so it gives me a good start. They aren’t low carb, but I try to compensate for that in the rest of my meals, so it balances out by the end of the day.0 -
Top 50 thin breads (but all WAY over 10 calories): https://www.nutritionix.com/grocery/category/bread/sandwich-thin-bread/1407
I've tried a couple of those Just Crack an Eggs and I do not like them so I actually went to Walmart (where I never go) to get EB Southwestern.
I am only happy with a protein bar if I'm racing out the door.

DH bought a family reunion photo on ebay. I'd love to see him get into his family history. He needs something to do since he keeps talking about retiring. I gave him my ancestry.com, newspapers.com and folio3 passwords. Maybe he'll get the bug. He has a first cousin that's totally into it.
Showed up a p/t today and found out I was going to be with a different person. I saw Pixie Wednesday and was scheduled with her today but "Katie" claimed me. Sort of cool in that I got two different perspectives (albeit a trifle puzzling). "My" Heather will be back next week.

Did you like Pixie or Katie's approach better? DH had part 1 of his periodontal treatment today. I dropped him off and went to the market to pick up some ingredients for a potluck tomorrow night. I'm making a corn and bean salad and a Creamy Grape salad. This will be the first time making the grape salad but a friend made it for another event and I liked it. There's no cooking involved in either. Just some slicing and dicing and letting everything meld together overnight. I got the corn salad recipe from my sister. She knows I love it so she makes it each year when we visit SC.0

Actually, I'll be glad when "my" Heather is back. Interesting to see the other two, and get a few tips, but I didn't "click" as much with either of them.
Yesterday I had all of them comparing how their pinkie fingers work. It started as an innocent question. I can no longer bend the pinkie finger on my left hand separately from the other fingers so that's one thing I asked each of the two ladies about. Well, it turns out some people's hands have never done that. Who knew? Not even all the therapists that were working yesterday. If someone had walked in while everyone was holding up and comparing their hands they'd have concluded we were all nuts!
In two weeks I'll come to the end of my second 6-week prescription from the doctor and I've already blown by the Medicare "no questions asked" limit (which doesn't take long at all) so when Heather comes back I'll soon need to pin her down on what, if anything, comes next. Part of me isn't ready to stop and part of me thinks I've maybe plateau'd and any further improvements are only going to come with time, at home exercises, and actually using the hand. The fact that I'm typing this means I've come a long way.
Helene - no cook dishes are great! DH has decided he loves the marinated basil/cherry tomato/mozzarella recipe I saved from last year when the tomato onslaught hit. The garden isn't producing nearly as much this year but we have had cherry tomatoes and he's proud to add his own basil (that he grew from a free packet that came in the mail addressed to me for some reason).

I had a call from Lil that "my" Pep Boys guy hadn't been seen for 2 days. So I went over after p/t yesterday. He was there and he remembers me. I was SO relieved. He looks great - almost like he's been groomed - although that seems highly unlikely.0

I saw a cat that looked like this on the news last week. He weighed 20 pounds and could it up like this. The shelter had lots of calls about the cat that could sit up and that's the reason he got adopted. I hope his new family puts him on a diet for his health.0
