We just got back from DH's second periodontal treatment. He goes back in a month to see if his gums have improved. Here' hoping.

Just explain to your doctor that you only have 65% function back and that therapist feels more PT will give you more function. Laid out in percentages like that, I can't imagine your doctor telling you to settle for 65% you have when you can attain more range of movement by continuing therapy.

I think there's 0% chance he wouldn't approve it. In fact the office will just rubber stamp it (literally). It's getting them to do it that's annoying. Because one of their hand therapists left, my doctor's office has actually been referring patients to my new place so you'd think they'd be more accommodating but it doesn't seem to work out that way.

Pam, Hopefully talking to the doctor and being able to talk to the business office straighten out your claim problem. If not, you probably have the option of submitting a claim yourself to your Medigap insurance company. That would be a pain in the neck but you probably could do it. Or you can look for a more accommodating medical practice.

Unfortunately Medigap will only pay if Medicare pays. If the doctor doesn't take Medicare (at all or unless you're in an Advantage plan) that means Medicare won't pay which means Medigap won't pay.

Pam - have you actually had a claim since you went on Medicare? If so, you can go to the Medicare website and see if the claim has been submitted to them.

I've been watching all my claims wind their way through the system. First, through Medicare and then onto Medigap. Along they way their have been hiccups that I've had to deal with and solve but you can watch everything move along.

My Medicare and gap coverage doesn’t actually begin until October 1st. I’m just trying to be proactive and find out if I will have any issues once it begins.

You're smart to figure this out in advance. I'll bet most of the specialists you see take Medicare.

I'm on a Humana Medicare Advantage plan. Humana had the state insurance contract, so when I went on Medicare I accepted the transfer to the Humana Advantage plan with the state insurance as the backup. I never worry about submitting any bills to the state insurance part as Humana takes care of it. I've been on this combined plan for ten years.

It seems ridiculous to see a doctor to make an appointment for a test but in this case the insurance will not pay for it unless the doctor documents it is a necessary part of the follow up for the bladder cancer. The nurse did all the preliminary stuff and then said, "The doctor will be with you but he is running late because of an emergency earlier." 30 minutes later he shows up, spends 5 minutes asking me questions and then sends his nurse in to get me to schedule the appointment.

DH's gastroenterologist had to cancel his appointment to make a colonoscopy appointment until mid September. He asked whether he could go ahead and schedule the test but they said not until after he reschedules the appointment to make the appointment. Say that fast three times!

Lot of appointments to make appointments, but I guess the doc has to see the patient in order for insurance to pay.

    Love the meme, Maryanne!

We have a local candy company named Wockenfuss that has a store near our printer. I stopped in to get a gift for a friend's birthday (she's rail thin). I ordered a pound assorted with nuts - light and dark - caramel okay. Thinking I'd covered all the usual questions. They usually have no problem but this girl was for some reason having trouble filling the box. She asked about coconut? I thought she meant coconut and nuts but said "no" just because I'm unsure of the friend's view of coconut. It wasn't until after she asked me about peanut butter and explaining her questions that I realized she was asking about anything with "nut" in the name. Like cocoNUT. Seriously????

At the holidays they have all those one pound assortments made up but I guess not this time of year.

They also have yet to bring back the white chocolate almond bark thankfully since it's my downfall.

From the Hamilton twitter account (as opposed to the Lin-Manuel twitter account):

Hamilton at the vet secretly hoping they'll throw away his shot.

(Sorry if that's too much of an "inside Hamilton joke")

We all know how "wonderful" the NS meatloaf was. I actually found one that is decent. I was loading up with groceries in WalMart when I saw a Great Value Meatloaf in the freezer section. I decided to buy it, and had it for dinner. I'll buy it again!

I hated the old shelf stable NS meatloaf, but I loved the frozen meatloaf sandwich item. It was much better and a fairly generous portion.

I’ve backslid a bit over the weekend due to a birthday dinner for a friend Friday night and a birthday brunch yesterday. I actually think I didn’t do too badly yesterday, but the scale was still up from Friday night. I hope to get it back down to my lowest weight so far (or lower, hopefully) before we leave for our family beach vacation on Friday. I know I won’t have the will power to stay on track the whole time I’m down there, so I’ll do the best I can and try to compensate by being as active as I can manage. I can always get back on the wagon when I get back home.

DH just got back from his camping trip. I think he had a good time but he’s glad to be home.

It’s been raining off and on all day, with temps in the upper 70’s to low 80’s. Not typical Labor Day weekend weather for us but I’m not complaining!

I just saw an announcement on TV that all schools without a/c are closing 3 hours early tomorrow - the first day of school here - because of the heat.

Today was primary day in MA. We had a new polling place; a church instead of the middle school we've used for decades. I suspect the change was spurred by the Parkland shootings. It makes sense to limit access to the schools to keep the kids safe from outsiders. The church is very generous in hosting community functions and group. And the parking is much better at the church. It was a pretty steady turnout for a primary election.
We stopped at Panera to pick up lunch and drove down to the beach to enjoy the view while we ate. It was a beautiful day and the crowds are gone during the week.

We ordered absentee ballots for both the primary (which is over) and the November elections. Lazy way to go I guess but sure is easy!

As long as your vote is counted, who cares how it was cast? I usually do early voting simply because I can do it at my convenience on a day when I’m out doing other things. I rarely have to wait very long and can go to any polling place to do it so it’s much more convenient than voting on the actual Election Day where I have to go to my specific polling place and wait in line. And it seems like the past few elections, the official polling site for my precinct has been in a different location each time, so I have to look up my precinct number and then figure out where to go if I wait until Election Day. Much easier to do early voting.

Maryanne--Love the "I have nothing to play with meme."

Pam--We do the best we can when eating. I think it is natural to have a day that is off plan, but we try not to make a habit of it.

Helene--Remember you comment about your Outback closing? I asked ours in the city if they were part of the nationwide test to see if opening for lunch would be profitable. It definitely was and this Outback is currently among the top ten in the nation. They just recently started delivery service which is a major hit and success because of all the businesses in the area. The schools here are among those used for polling places, so they are closed on major election days. It is just another day to be added or made up in the instructional calendar.

I worked yesterday and when I came out at 4pm, the temperature was in the low triple digits. I thought it might be a thermometer fluke but people on FB was reporting similar things throughout the county. It was like breathing fire.

That's interesting about Outback testing lunch openings. Ours might have stayed open if they'd done that. We had a Red Lobster for a couple of years but that closed as well. With the abundance of real seafood restaurants on the Cape, there wasn't much chance a chain restaurant could compete with that. People could go to RL at home. On vacation, they wanted the real experience.

I found an interesting website in the business section to do with unclaimed money. www.unclaimed.org I went to the site and found some CVS refunds owed to DH. CVS had used an incorrect mailing address. I told BIL and he found an old bank account he had years ago with MIL. We both started a claim to recover the money. If you go to the site, check your name in the states you've lived in. You may get lucky. DH will get back more than $150 and BIL i owed over $1,000.

Helene--I've done that search often as it is heavily promoted in our state via newspapers, TV, etc. I've never had any luck. It is good that you have had luck.

Helene - for fun I tried some family names in PA but the PA site is very generic in terms of names and doesn't include much specifics on location. MD OTOH has addresses - found a claim for a friend and emailed her the info.

    Jean - hilarious!!!!!

I did my searches using last name only. When I came up with the names, I looked for first names and towns where we lived. Sometime the names were not 100% accurate. I found my aunt's name. She was Agnes but one of the listings said Agne. I figured the name got truncated. There were several listings that could have been her son. The town was right and the street was in the neighborhood where we all lived. I didn't know his middle initial or house number so it may or may not be him. Both are deceased so I forwarded the info to his sister. I hope she discovers some money and claims it.

Locations on then PA site are very vague - like "Philadelphia".
