Hi everyone. My name is Mel and I am from New Zealand and now live in Western Australia. I have been overweight since I had my last child almost 5 years ago and have yo-yo'd a lot over that time. When we moved over here I took time off work to spend time with my children as an at home mum. I work most nights which helps me stay active, but I may have to go back to teaching next year. I realised that if I didn't do something about my weight this year, then I would have wasted the opportunity of time that I have available to me right now to do something about my weight. As of January 1st, I have lost over 20kg (40lbs approx) and plan on continuing my progress. Spring is here so the motivation to be in shape for summer is staring me in the face!4

Hello, team The Big Butt Theory! Welcome to September and a special welcome to the newcomers. Please take a moment to introduce yourselves to the team and tell us a little bit about your goals for the month.
Hi, my name is Lisa and I have been with this team since October and in a leadership role since December. I am your captain for September. I am 52, a Canadian living in Southern Ontario, married 26 years and have two grown sons. One is done school, living at home and working at the family business. The other is still in school, but completing his business degree in Germany.
I did really well with this challenge until Christmas, then I completely fell off the rails. Had some success in April, and a little more in June, but am still struggling with consistency! You know what they say....consistency is key!! Being involved with this group helps to at least keep my head above water!! If you are struggling, it can help you, too. So, the more you interact, the more you will feel the team's support.
A little about this challenge.....it runs Sunday to Saturday. Post your weigh-in on this thread on your chosen weigh-in day. If you need to miss a weigh-in, let me know. If you forget to post a weigh-in, post as soon as you remember, up until Saturday evening. (I'd say Saturday at midnight, EDT, but I am not up that late!) Please post a weight even if you have gained. There is no judgement here, only support, and it happens to all of us at some point!! If you miss two weigh-ins, you will be removed from the month and will have to re-register for the next month if you wish to continue.
Yes, this is a weight loss challenge, but I would like you to think of it more as a support group. Sometimes, you can do all the right things, but the scale just doesn't move. If you have taken measurements you will be able to see that you are making progress, just not contributing to the team's weight loss. But we don't want you to despair, or leave, if this happens, thus the focus on the "support" aspect!
We are all here for the same reason....to lose weight and get healthy. Some days will go better than others....weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint, after all!! But with the support of this team, and some hard work, we can all make it to the finish line!
Have a great September, everyone!!1 -
Hello again, team TBBT. The September challenge doesn't officially start until Sunday September 2nd, but I thought I'd give you some more information so that you can be ready to jump in with both feet! Within the main weight loss challenge we have another optional, but highly recommended, challenge. It is called the Mini Ultimate Accountability Challenge, or the Mini Challenge. It is based on another MFP challenge group by the same name, or UAC.
The way it works is simple:
1. Log everything you eat that has calories in MFP.
2. Stay inside your allotted daily calorie budget.
3. Do at least 20 minutes of activity daily. This could be anything that gets you off the couch and being active: run, walk, cycle, swim, gardening, housework, yoga, gym, etc.
4. Report each day on this thread (something to the effect of logged food: yes, under calories: yes, exercise: yes, and a brief description is nice)
****When you post your accountability, please put the date, or the day of the week to which you are referring. We are all in different time zones, and some people post in the evening for that day, and others post the next morning, so it gets confusing trying to decipher without a day or date. Thanks!!!*****
You get one free pass day a week (went over calories, could not log food, rest day, etc.) At the end of the week, if you have managed to be "accountable" for at least 6 of 7 days, you will be recognized on this thread as being in the Winner's Circle!
This strategy works for weight loss because it is based on CI<CO. When calories in are less than calories out, you stay inside your allotted daily calorie budget, and you will lose weight! And exercise is just good for you, plus it will burn calories and help with the calories out portion of the equation!
What's great about this challenge is that it works for everyone, as long as you are honest with yourself. There are no dietary restrictions, so you can eat whatever you like, and follow whatever plan you like. Your own daily calorie budget is set by you and MFP and you choose your own exercise and intensity of exercise! Plus it is a practice that can be carried beyond weight loss into maintenance! If you are having a bad week, a new week and a fresh start is just around the corner!
Consistency and new habits have been shown to be the keys to long term successful weight loss. Why not make the Mini Ultimate Accountability Challenge your new habit, that you do consistently!!
Week #1 for the Mini Challenge starts Sunday, September 2nd!!1 -
Hi everyone, Im Ashley. Im a single mother to a miracle baby who was born at 24 weeks. He is my inspiration to make a difference in my life so. I can be the best mom for him. My goal for this month is to try and get portions under xontrol and learn to count calories (Im really bad at it). Hi everyone! I’m Stephanie and I’m super excited to start this challenge. I’m going on a beach vacation on October 5th and this is my last 30 day push to lose some weight before I’m back in a swimsuit. I’m really motivated and I’m hopeful this challenge will keep me on track this month. It’s been a rough year staying focused!!!3

Hi my name is Stephanie, I am from Toronto Canada.
This will be my second round. I really love this group it has been extremely helpful and supportive. I have always struggled with my weight but after being tired of always being tired I decided a change had to be made. Now, I have increased my activity and am pushing my body and it's boundries, doing things I have never been able to do before ( like push ups) loosing weight in places I never thought I would every be able to loose weight and am impressing myself along the way4 -

Welcome, Ashley! Yes, children do have a way of putting things into perspective for us!! How old is your little guy now?
If you haven't been on MFP long, then it will take some time to get good at logging your food. However, the more you do it, the easier it gets. Do you have a food scale? Weighing and measuring your food is the only way to get a true handle on portion size and to know exactly what you are eating. Most people are surprised to see how many portions they truly were eating at one sitting!!
Good luck with it, and if you have any questions, just ask. We are here to help and support!!1 -

Welcome, Stephanie!! Nothing like a beach vacation to get you motivated to lose weight!! Hopefully we can help you in the motivation department as well!! Where are you heading?
Push really hard for the next thirty days...you never know what will happen!! Good luck!!1 -

Hey, Stephanie! I don't think I realized you were in Toronto! We can get to the Toronto Airport in an hour and a half with no traffic, but on the 13th it took us two and a half with all the construction!! Thankfully, we always leave lots of time!!1 -
@HASWLRS He is now 6 months corrected (if he was born on his due date) but 10 months old since birth. I had a food scale before but in the process of moving so im not to sure where it is right now.2

Hello! My name is Netzi I am the mother of 4 boys. I have always put everything ahead of me: children, husband and my job. I am the kind of person that does not give up, strives for excellence and gives it my all and I usually succeed in what I put my mind to EXCEPT WEIGHT LOSS!!! The struggle is REAL. I guess I am so busy helping every one that I eat what I can (usually junk) when I can. I am getting older, my body hurts and I am not happy with how I feel or how I look. I still haven't lost the baby weight and my son is 12 years old! I joined this group because it is easier to be accountable when my results affect an entire group. It's easier to be accountable to a team than to just myself. My goal is to be healthy and happy in my own skin. Let's do this!4

Hi everyone I'm Destiny. I'm a stay at home mom to 4 kids ages 8, 6, 2, and (almost) 10 months. I've been in this group since January and it has been really amazing. I'm about 12 pounds from my goal weight! I just had my wisdom teeth removed so I haven't been exercising because I haven't been able to get in many calories. I'm hoping to start getting exercise back into my routine soon!6

Hi Everyone. I'm Stephanie. I'm a full time accountant for a hospital and a full time grad student! This is my first month in this group but I'm really looking forward to being in it! I recently had knee surgery (a month ago) so I'm finally able to be back to my usual routine!4

Hey, Ashley, that is a great loss to start the month of September!! However, the September Challenge doesn't start until Sunday the 2nd. You are right that your weigh-in day is Saturday, so your first official weigh-in will be on Saturday, September the 8th. Keep up the great work, and see how much you can add to that 1.4 pound loss!!!1 -
Hello all new friends and old friends.
I’m Erik, 37 years old. I am married with no kids and one cat. I work in the beer industry which is tough for weight loss, but I have been committed to changing that in 2018.
I am fairly new to this group myself, June was my first month. My whole life I have been up and down with weight, the past few years I have been lingering between 250-260. Last year, 12/28/17, I weighed in at 275.5 after a really tough year mentally, which led me to give up on my health.
I am down 30.3 lbs in the past 8 months. I joined this group at 252.9 and I am at 245.2
August was quite a ride for me but I still managed to lose weight with lots going on. The first week I was away on vacation, the next Saturday was my wedding anniversary The next Saturday was my birthday. To end the month I hurt my back and could not go to the gym. Through all this I lost weight 4 out of 5 weeks and ended the month down 3.3 lbs.
I am determined to get out of the 240s, going to make that my goal for the month.4 -

Hey there, Big Butt Theorists! My name is Mikayla and I am 21 years old. I am currently employed as a Student Activities Assistant at a New York College. I essentially plan and run student events on the campus. I am single, no kids, and living at home with the fam. I have struggled with my weight since I was at least 9 or 10 years old. I am incredibly tired of not looking the way I want to look, feeling sluggish, and not living my life to the healthiest it could be. My weight is currently 165.4 lbs and my ultimate goal is 135 lbs.
For the month of September, I really hope to lose at least 5.4 lbs to bring me down to 160 lbs. Other goals include eating whole foods consistently, preparing meals for success, exercising at least 5x a week, and getting restful sleep. Looking forward to losing (or is it winning?) with you all!4 -
Hey all! My name is Mike and I'm 39, married with 2 little girls(8 & 3 years old). I work from home and my wife and I homeschool our kids. I currently weigh 290. I started 7/25/18 at 309.
The heaviest I've been is 330 and the lightest is 220. I'm 6'4" and an overall big guy. At 220 I had lost a lot of muscle and was about 5% body fat. I want to maintain / build muscle as I lose fat this time. My overall goal for is to get down to about 240 / 250, just depends on how fit I feel and look at that time.
Every other time I've lost weight, I've focused on exercise first and the food habits just kind of fall into place. This time I started focused on the food. I found an online calculator that told me the calories needed to maintain my 309 weight was 3400 calories a day. I couldn't believe how much I must have been eating to stay at that weight. So my goal is to stay around 2000 calories (give or take) a day with a focus on high protein and low carb whole foods. I'm also exercising about 3 times per week in the gym. So far, so good. I've had 2 cheat days and lost 19 pounds over the last 38 days. Some days are absolutely killing me, but about 80% of the time I feel satiated and have decent energy. I'm looking forward to continuing the streak and be at 280 by the end of September.4 -
Hi I’m Bobby T, this is my second month competing in the biggest loser challenge. My first experience was a rewarding one with me hitting my target. I want to thank the Big Butt Theory Team for the platforms and processes to success. We can all do this!
I am from Pittsburgh and manage two tax offices. With such a cyclical job all my numbers go to a bad place around tax season. I am very active in Fitbit with a target of 20,000 steps. I max out at 10 challenges every week. Please feel free to add me to MFP or Fitbit. Robandy12345
My journeys with food and exercise is feast or famine. I played on 4 softball teams this summer. Currently still playing on two as well as volleyball and basketball starting shortly.
My target this month will be the same as last month, reduce my weight by ten pounds. (199 to 189). I also seek to find a better balance with food, exercise, and rest. Please let me know if I can help on our mission to succeed. Susan B Anthony said it best “ Failure is impossible “3 -
