Hello, I live in the Atlanta Georgia area. I'm married with two grown sons. One son still lives at home and has built a music studio in our home. He is an audio engineer, producer and also performs (guitar and sometimes bass). He is also into body building and will be helping me with my efforts in our home gym.
I've been on this journey for a few years now. I am down 40 pounds from where I started. I struggled a bit during the last week or so of August. Good news is that I took this past week completely off from MFP (and a few other things) and really focused on some of the new lifestyle habits that I've wanted to incorporate into my life. My weigh-in tomorrow will most likely be a significant gain from where I ended the August challenge. But it should come back down fairly quickly.
I've been amazed at how difficult it has been to create new habits. Over the past 3 years I've developed some excellent habits that are now simply a part of my lifestyle. Right now, I'm trying to add to those lifestyle habits. I'm at a place where I really have no excuses except that change is difficult. Over the past week, I have been working on a different morning and evening routine. I will continue to work this out over this next month and by the end of the year, plan on these changes becoming a part of the lifestyle that is just who I am.
My goals for the month:
1. Strength training
2. New morning schedule
3. New evening schedule
4. Organized weekly schedules that work (so I don't forget what I meant to do each day)
Looking forward to a great September!

The September Challenge starts today....who's ready to kick some Big Butts into high gear?!!!5

I just noticed that my weigh-in for August 20th (Week 4) was entered as 150 instead of 151. So week 4 and 5 should have been 151 and that carried over to September. I know that I will be posting an increase in the morning from even the 151. Maybe if we could at least change my starting weight for September to the 151 number. That would be helpful. Thanks.
It's good to be back after a week off-line. It will be good to get back to logging and seeing the number go back down.2 -

Yes! I am going to ease back into working out. Back feels better now. Swimming today. Easy walking tomorrow. Mix in weights once i’m confident I can handle them.
Family bbq today. I am going to have to really watch my portions cause healthy options unfortunately are not an option at bbq’s on my wifes side of the family3 -

I essentially plan and run student events on the campus. I am single, no kids, and living at home with the fam. I have struggled with my weight since I was at least 9 or 10 years old. I am incredibly tired of not looking the way I want to look, feeling sluggish, and not living my life to the healthiest it could be. My weight is currently 165.4 lbs and my ultimate goal is 135 lbs.
For the month of September, I really hope to lose at least 5.4 lbs to bring me down to 160 lbs. Other goals include eating whole foods consistently, preparing meals for success, exercising at least 5x a week, and getting restful sleep. Looking forward to losing (or is it winning?) with you all!
Welcome, Mikayla! Sounds like you are making the most of your college life by getting involved, and getting others involved!! What are you studying? Sounds like you have a good plan in place to have a successful September!1 -
Hey all! My name is Mike and I'm 39, married with 2 little girls(8 & 3 years old). I work from home and my wife and I homeschool our kids. I currently weigh 290. I started 7/25/18 at 309.
The heaviest I've been is 330 and the lightest is 220. I'm 6'4" and an overall big guy. At 220 I had lost a lot of muscle and was about 5% body fat. I want to maintain / build muscle as I lose fat this time. My overall goal for is to get down to about 240 / 250, just depends on how fit I feel and look at that time.
Every other time I've lost weight, I've focused on exercise first and the food habits just kind of fall into place. This time I started focused on the food. I found an online calculator that told me the calories needed to maintain my 309 weight was 3400 calories a day. I couldn't believe how much I must have been eating to stay at that weight. So my goal is to stay around 2000 calories (give or take) a day with a focus on high protein and low carb whole foods. I'm also exercising about 3 times per week in the gym. So far, so good. I've had 2 cheat days and lost 19 pounds over the last 38 days. Some days are absolutely killing me, but about 80% of the time I feel satiated and have decent energy. I'm looking forward to continuing the streak and be at 280 by the end of September.
Welcome, Mike! Congratulations on losing 19 pounds so far, and having a solid plan in place to keep losing and to reach your goals!! It is a balancing act, isn't it, to find that perfect amount of food that lets you lose weight but not feel so hungry that you can't function!!1 -

Hey, that's good news about your back, and easing into some exercise this week!! Best of luck watching portions at your BBQ. Enjoy!!0 -

This will be my second month in the challenge. I work at a school and try to drink 3-4 of my big water bottles daily, which helps a lot with being less hungry. I use 18shake as a meal replacement once per day, and they are quite good though not inexpensive. My Fitbit goal is 11,000 daily and I’m usually over. I am typically at Zumba and other gym classes at night. I’ve dipped under 160 but need to keep working at that.2

Thank you! I actually already graduated from a different college with a bachelors degree in Biology. I was highly involved with student activities there, and ended up finding that job after graduation.
I am hoping to have a great September! I have yet to utilize the online weight loss community and challenges, such as this, and my hope is that it makes me consistent with my diet/exercise.2 -
Just a question for everyone-- what diet methods are you all using during the month of September? ( i.e. CICO only, eating whole foods, keto, low-carb, etc.)0

Hi there,
I think I won't be doing the mini challenge this month. Ive been logging in my food for months and would like to stop it for a bit and see how it goes.
I will still be doing the weekly weigh in foutu but was wondering if I could change my weigh in day to Saturdays ?

Eating whole foods with a focus on calorie restriction and low carb. My macro goals are 45% fat / 35% protein / 20% carb and my calorie restriction is approx. 1000 deficit per day.
Of course, today I'm having my birthday party and making it a cheat day. So everything I said above is null and void after breakfast. There shall be cake and large quantities of regret this evening. But tomorrow I'm back on the awesome bandwagon of health, fitness and the pursuit of a belly button that isn't perpetually frowning1 -

You would think that by now I would have learned that I can not have a weekend where I indulge in foods/drinks that I enjoyed in the past. First, I find that I don't enjoy them like I remember. Second, I find that once I do that, I start having crazy cravings for for stuff that I don't even want/like any more and then I have to work my way back to my new normal again. This time I will remember.

Sorry to hear that your neck and back are still sore! I wish that 20 minutes in a hot tub actually counted as exercise!!! Hope that and the sauna and the yoga are helping!!0 -

I find one of the hardest things to get used to is the feeling of being hungry when starting on a calorie reduced diet. Your stomach is stretched from being constantly fed larger amounts of food, (think trying to get back into it after the Christmas holidays!), so it takes longer to signal that you are full. Decreasing in increments will help, as will making sure you drink lots of water!!!1 -

We are going to need more to go on, Bobby T. Who sings this song and what is it called? It kind of reminds me of Earth Wind and Fire's "September" (great song!). Is that what you are referring to?1 -

Great question, Mikayla. When I am into it, I just do CICO. Nothing fancy, nothing restricted. I kind of get into a rut, as well, where I am eating mostly the same things everyday. Boring, yes, but easy to maintain, when everything else in my life is in place.0 -
