Hello Team Slimsons and Welcome to December!!
My name is Ashley @AB0215 I will be your captain for this month.
Here's a little about me:
I am 32, and I have been overweight basically my entire life and in the last 18 months or so, I decided to change that, I have been working towards that goal for the past year. I'm down about 73 lbs and I still have a way to go, and I just recommitted to my goal. Let's do this!
Please feel free to introduce yourselves and share your goals for the month, I'd actually like to encourage this as I know that for me it helps me to have some accountability and helps me reach my goals when I share them..and with that in mind, my goal this month is to lose 5 pounds. I've been training for an Olympic Style Weight lifting competition and that was just last month, did okay, now I have some things to work on before my next one!
We are also going to be running (Optional) Mini-challenges again this month: Question of the Week and Daily Posts
First and foremost is that participation in these challenges is optional. It's up to you as to whether you want to try this. If you don't want to participate in these challenges, you don't have to, the choice is yours, but I would like to encourage you to participate as it seems to help keep us on track and thinking about our goals on a daily basis and it's encouraging to see other's successes and struggles so that we realize that we are not alone!!
The Daily Posts Challenge is based on another challenge on MFP called UAC (Ultimate Accountability Challenge). The way UAC works is that the aim is to follow 5 basic rules.
#1. Track EVERYTHING you eat that has calories.
#2. Stay inside your allocated daily budget.
#3. Try to do at least 20 minutes of activity a day (anything: walk, run, cycle, swim, gardening, housework, yoga, gym, etc.. As long as it gets you active and off the couch)
#4. 1 pass day permitted per week (went over calories, could not track, not enough exercise, intentional pass)
#5. Check in daily (tracking yes/no, calories yes/no, exercise yes/no).
****End of the week. those who have managed to keep to plan for 6 out of 7 days are recognized in the thread as being part of the weekly "Winners Circle".
A side note as there has been a bit of confusion for new members in the past, this is not the same as the official results, which are weight based, this is just another tool to help you reach your weight loss goals.
**REMEMBER**
You set your own daily budget.
You choose you own exercise and intensity (no step limit, no exercises you cannot or should not do, 20 mins of gardening counts as much as a 10 mile run, activity is activity, anything that gets you up and moving!).
Is not weight based (as weight fluctuates day by day).
Can continue beyond weight loss.
Daily check in keeps you in touch with those doing similar. Longer term weight management is hard to do on your own.
It also has frequent resets (as in a circle each week).
It works on an honor system. Being honest with yourself and others is a key to making things work. Remember, this is a judgement free zone, everyone has good days and bad days, but the way to get to the finish line is by being honest and when we have a bad day, picking ourselves up and carrying on the next day!
Consistency and new habits have been shown the only long term successful way to change weight. We all want the progress made here to last a lifetime.
Your posts should look like this:
Daily Post (Sunday/Date)
Track: Yes/no
Calories: Yes/no (were you under)
Exercise: Yes/no (what type and how long)
Goals/Day/Comments: (Tell us a brief description about your how your day went or your goals for the day)
The Question of the Week Challenge is a fun participation booster and we will be using it sometimes just as fun and sometimes it can help to foster new ideas for others as we all are different and have different experiences so sharing ideas can help someone else with motivation of freshening up their routine even!! Keep on the lookout for these questions.
Please post your weight on your scheduled weigh in day, as if you miss weigh-ins, you may be eliminated from the challenge and we don't want to see that happen!!
Your posts should look like this:
Username:
Week: November Week 1
PW =(previous weight)
CW=(current weight)
Just type PW & CW if you'd like (or if it's easier, you could keep a note on your PC desktop to make it easier to copy and paste from week to week.)
Please, please setup your posts in that format as it really makes it much easier for me to track your progress for the challenges and the weight loss!!
I'd like to help us be as successful as possible and if I can help in any way, please let me know. Also, if you have any suggestions for the team or fun ideas to spice things up a bit, please feel free to share them, I look for new ways to help engagement and keep people motivated!!
I am committed to this group and to help where I can, and please let me know if I can help in any way!!
Side note--I follow a Ketogenic diet for any that may be interested, I have tons of recipes and resources for anyone interested.
Welcome to December and let's make things happen this month together!!
Your Captain,
Ashley (@AB0215)0 -
Hello my name is Diane. I am 62 years young and have been overweight since the birth of my daughter 32 years ago! A couple of times I reduced by 20 or so pounds but sadly put the weight back on. I have tried only 2 diets. WW too many times to count and low carb for 2 days😬😬. At the end of the day I truly believe calories in/out is the only true way to success. I have 100 to lose.
My goal is to walk 60 minutes 6x week and weights 3x per week. My goal for December is to be 10# down This is my first month so I believe it’s attainable.
Ashley. Thanks for leading this group. We can do it

Hi! I'm Becky. I'm 37 years old. After having my first two daughters, I was able to fairly easily lose the baby weight and then some. Both times I used MFP and ran to do so. I had my third in January. Not only did I gain too much weight, but I'm having trouble staying motivated to track, weigh/measure, and stay under my calorie goals. At just over 250lbs now, running is difficult for me.
I signed up for the Holiday Mile Challenge, where I need to walk or run at least a mile everyday Thanksgiving through New Years. My first goal is to run the mile at least three times a week. I'm running a 14:00 min mile right now, but it still feels good to be out on the trail.
My second goal is to honest track 100% of what I eat (and weigh/measure before I eat).
And my third goal is to be under in calories 90% of the days in December.
I'm looking forward to doing the challenge with everyone, and I'm hoping it'll keep me motivated and hold me accountable to my goals!2 -

@goodreadsgal Calories do matter, no matter what others will say. I do follow a low carb diet, but for me it makes it easier to eat less as I'm not constantly hungry like I was before. The thing is, you can't do both low carb and low fat, you really have nothing to fuel your body with, you need a fuel source, either carbs or fat, and personally I prefer the fat, I feel better, it's saved me from a lot of issues, but it's not for everyone. The trick is finding what works for you!
Your goal is attainable, you got this! Welcome to the team!1 -

@Beckymomof3girls Honestly is the best policy, you can't achieve your goals if you aren't honest with yourself.
As for staying motivated, I try to remove all of the reasons why I won't. I don't love tracking my food, but I realize that it's a necessary part of the process. You have NO idea what you're taking in if you don't track it. I like to track at the beginning of every day, and that way I already have a plan. Another idea is to prep your meals for the week, you already have it ready to go, that way you're not tempted to stray.
You go this, welcome!2 -
Mexiconona 11/26
Tracking yes
Calories yes
Exercise yes water aerobics 35 min, walking 20 min.
I am going to try again tomorrow. With all the delicious gravy, stuffing, leftovers, etc. it is too much for my self control! I guess it’s one day at a time for me!!!! 🍗🙏😳 We need pray for one another for self control and resolve! You have my prayers! 🙏
Becky, I am going to try what you do tomorrow and track at the beginning of my day like you do. I also have to freeze the goodies such as the delicious fruit cake my friend gave me so I have to go to some trouble getting to it. I air sealed the candy my daughter just sent me and put it in the hall pantry. Out of sight, out of mind! My big goal this week is to track what I eat before I eat it! Thanks for the tips Becky!!

I would love to take credit for the great advice, but it was all Ashley. Good luck with tracking this week!

Hi! My name is Bre and I am 28 years old. I have played competive soccer since I was 5 and had to give it up over 2 year ago due to a knee injury. Not playing soccer has been an adjustment for me and I am ready to get back in a routine again. I found a new love for exercise in OrangeTheory Fitness. It has been great for me. Now I am working on my food intake. I have slacked off on counting calories in the last 6 months, but I’m working to get back to tracking all of my meals. My big goal this week is to track all my food intake, even my snacks that aren’t so good for me. I look forward to get to know all of you and work on our goals together!2

@AB0215 how do we do this. When we weigh in from Sunday will we write December : Week 1 and then just our current weight and from week 2 it will be PW and CW? Or those of us from Nivember challenge will put our last weight from November weigh-in and the current?
@Jaydoh120 This is the last week of the November challenge, so all challenge related posts still go in November and on Sunday Dec 2, we move here. And your last weigh in from November becomes your December starting weight and you will just weigh in for the 1st week of December on your scheduled weigh in day, in your case, your Mon Nov 26th weigh in becomes your Dec starting weight and your 1st weigh for Dec is Mon Dec, does that make sense?1 -

@BreanaRenae Hi Bre and welcome! I know how you feel about soccer, I was a competitive softball player all of my childhood and through high school until I was too old for the league I was in and then had to make the choice between softball and getting a job...so I chose money and sadly, that may have been the wrong choice, but I was 16 and wanted to drive a car, so you know, priorities....
I will say this, you get your food intake on track, and that's most of the battle. It's really amazing to me that you can be so far away from what you think you're doing and what you're actually doing...if you don't track and measure....and honestly, that's most of the issue right there. I'm sort of a data nut, and what I've learned from that is you can't figure out what the issue is when things aren't working as planned if you don't have the data, you can't really go back and say well, maybe I'm eating too much, or maybe it's this, because you have no idea what you did, so my best advice is, you can never have too much data, and data has a story to tell...
And as far as tracking, I found that until I got good at it, I took a picture of my food as a reminder of what I ate, and that sort of really prompted me to realize that it's far better to track it before you eat it, weigh and measure, then eat, because later, you really have no idea what all was in it, but it did start me in the right direction. Either way, you're doing great by recognizing that tracking is important and heading in the right direction by trying to track your food every day! So awesome job!1 -
Thanks for the encouraging advice! Great idea on the picture. That is something I will utilize. I’m working on making it a habit! Thanks!1

Hello, I'm Cindy. I'm 5' 2" and 55 years old. I finally got sick of being fat about 2 months ago when I was almost too big to sit in an airplane seat and a mean woman seated next to me requested to be moved somewhere else. I was so embarrassed. About 20 - 25 years ago I was a distance runner (I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 1994). But, since then I gained a ton of weight and I was miserable. I started here in Oct and weighed 273 lbs and I'm down to 249 lbs now. I'm already feeling soooo much better. This group is a wonderful place to get support and to help stay on track with what you want to do.3

Hello! Sarah here with a little history on me....I am 37 and my goal is to lose 7 lbs in December. I like to run and just started yoga to compliment the running. I have to work on maintaining weight management as I have the tendency to gain weight quick, if I don’t monitor my calories. I was doing well until the summer and stopped keeping track. For me it’s a slippery slope, so I want to get back into it. Thanks for having me and look forward going thou December with you all! 🎄1

Hi my name is Kirby. I have been overweight my entire adult life. A few years ago I had lost 50 pounds by counting calories, cutting sodas completely out and being more active like doing a boot camp class, jogging some days, or even a 2 mile walk in the afternoon. Then my mom passed away, and I went through a separation and I’m a huge stress eater and I gained all my weight back and then some. I’ve tried to get back on the wagon but keep falling off. I’ve decided I needed to lose the weight for me and so I could be healthy. In the past I did it for the wrong reason but now I want it for me. So I’m getting back into the swing of things starting today no sodas counting calories and being active.3

Hi team Slimson's👋
I'm Amy, 36 years next week 37! I'm a tall 5'1" 👇 need to lose 28lbs to be back at my lowest weight. I had lost 4 stone but have put half of that back on during my 3rd pregnancy. Now my baby is 13 months so no more excuses, this challenge will help to keep the motivation going.💪2 -

I was a big soda drinker too (Dr. Pepper)...but I tapered off of them slowly. I didn't want any of those awful caffeine headaches for days. I don't really miss it as much as I thought I would. I tried diet soft drinks and they taste a.w.f.u.l. So, it's water and sometimes vitamin water for me. The vitamin water doesn't taste great..but it's better than those nasty diet sodas.0 -

@schewe1 Hi Sarah! Welcome! Yoga is great exercise, great choice! I agree with you on the slippery slope, I am the same way, it's all or nothing for me and when I let go a little, I end up letting go a lot and I just can't do that anymore, I need to work harder to get to the goal!
You've got this, you're well on your way, you at least know what you need to do to succeed so that's half the battle!1 -

@kirbyallison Hi Kirby! Welcome to the team! I think it's really important to find an outlet for grief and other emotions that isn't tied to food. I do think that it's a really hard thing to train yourself not to do, and maybe by starting with small things like replacing high calorie stress snacks with something like sugarfree jello which has only like 10 calories, that's sort of like a Jedi mind trick on your brain, you're giving it what it "wants" but not really because it's low cal, and eat it slow! And also take it slow with the jumping back into things, build your healthy habits up a little slow at first, you'll be making healthier habits for the long term and not really burning yourself out, which is important too.
Sorry to hear about your mom! I have to believe she'd want to see you succeed and that somewhere she's watching you and rooting for you to succeed!
You got this!0 -

@burnthatfatamy1 Hi Amy! Welcome!! The tall 5' 1" made me laugh, I'm a "tall" 4' 10" (and a half). I like the no more excuses attitude, that's what got me where I am, you have to be honest with yourself and make changes when things aren't working, so that's a great attitude to have!!1 -

A little about me: My name is ally, I’m from Ontario Canada, I’m 31. I have been overweight since I was about 10, and obese since I was about 20. I’ve tried diets and programs before and I’ve been a member of almost every gym in town.
I’m just getting back to trying to change my habits (in the last week) after taking about a year off.
I enjoy hiking, biking, and weight lifting. For the month of December I’d love to lose 10Lbs2 -

Hello Team Slimsons,
I AM BACK FOR ANOTHER MONTH! CHEERS TO GETTING MY HEALTH BACK ON TRACK!!
My name is Gloria @gjaholy33
I am 39 years old and trying to lose 200lbs by April so I won't have to do the bariatric surgery although it is looking like it cause even though I've lost 11lbs this month my heart rate is still high 139 (not good).
I have been disable due to a work injury in 2015 and need to lose weight in order to get better as I am severely obese. Just to encourage those who are struggling with staying on track I have been trying to get healthy since 2010 and it's a constant struggle but I've learn to set short attainable goals in order to succeed. There are a lot of days which the pain is unbearable along with additional health issues such as asthma and pulmonary hypertension due to a long slow gas leak in my apartment has not help matters but since I am determine to lose 200lbs I know I have to Stay positive and look forward and not back at what I did yesterday.
I am currently STRUGGLING JUST TO MAINTAIN FROM DAY TO DAY on my weightloss journey. BUT I HAVE BEEN PRAYING AND MEDITATING MORE IN ORDER TO REMAIN POSITIVE WHICH TO ME IS KEY TO BEING SUCCESSFUL AT MY GOALS. ALTHOUGH I am surprised that I'm actually losing weight but my friend and Captain of this team, Ashley (@AB0215) is helping me with the Keto Lifestyle and its really working.
I always set goals for myself and once again this month my goal is to lose 30lbs! Didn't do it last month and even though this is my birthday month I have high hopes since I will not be cheating until Christmas (have to have mac & cheese) and the day of on the 31st when I'll be having a slice a cake to celebrate my mom turning 60 and me turning 40 (YES I WAS BORN ON MY MOM'S BIRTHDAY ON NEW YEAR'S EVE!)
WE GOT THIS,
Glorious Gloria @gjaholy332 -
Username: gjaholy33
Weigh in day: Wednesday
Current Weight: 504.5lbs0 -

December beginning weigh in: 188
Hoping to lose a few, and at least maintain during Christmas week. Definitely want to start out the new year under 188!
