It’s a beautiful, warm, sunny day here. I went for a walk in the park with a friend and enjoyed it a lot. I really need to get back to doing that more regularly. It was good that I did it because my weight was up in the danger zone for me this morning so I have to really work on getting back into my comfortable range again.

We went out to dinner last night with friends and I know I ate too much of the delicious pasta and bread. It was a restaurant that serves very large portions family style. We brought home half of the entrees, but still ate too much. And it showed this morning when I got on the scale. Despite that, it was a nice evening with friends that we don’t see very often.

DH and I just returned from viewing an open house near us. I think the house is overpriced and there were a few things I would want to update, but overall, it was very nice and would suit our needs very well. DH agreed that the house is overpriced but seemed to like it too. Now I’ll wait to see if he wants to pursue it. The thought of moving is quite a daunting task as after 25 years in this house, I know it would take a lot of work to clean out, organize, and get rid of a lot of unnecessary stuff before we could even list our house. And that doesn’t even take into account the areas that need to be updated or freshened up.

Pam--Moving is exciting but also a little intimidating at the same time. I don't know how fast houses are moving in your area but perhaps negotiations on the price are in order.

I leave tomorrow. I am looking forward to it but am tired after preparing for it. I have promised myself when I get back that I will try to eat more healthy and perhaps lose a few. Promises, promises!

Hold down the fort and have fun while I am gone!

Pam - I dread the thought of ever having to move from this house. We have STUFF everywhere. If you decide to for it - good luck!

We had to empty MIL’s house 10 years ago. It was a nightmare. It was the family home for 60 years. In addition to a two story house, there was an attic and a basement. We need to start doing the same thing with our house. You can’t start too early. If you have to do it on a deadline, it’s overwhelming.

I plan to start going through closets and cabinets this spring just to get a start on it. Whether we move or not, it needs to be done. I helped go through MIL’s house a few years ago and it wasn’t fun at all. We ended up paying a company to come in and hold an estate sale to get rid of most of it, but we had to go through everything first to take out the things we wanted to keep or save. It was quite a job, and I really wouldn’t want to put that burden on anyone else.

I walked in the park again this morning with my friend. My legs are a little sore, but I’m encouraged that the neuropathy I’ve had in my toes isn’t bothering me. I’ve had an issue with two toes on the foot where I broke my ankle and sometimes it is so painful that walking is difficult. Sometimes it helps to buddy tape those toes, but mostly I just have to be very careful about what shoes I wear. I recently bought a pair of Skechers that seem to be working very well for me. I’m encouraged because I have a trip planned to NYC in May, and I know I’ll be doing a lot of walking on that trip.

You may remember that I told the story last week about my old roommate and friend and how the friendship ended, then we reconnected via Facebook and met for breakfast last week when she and her husband were in town. (How’s that for one long run-on sentence, lol!). Today I received a very sweet card from her acknowledging that the rift in our friendship was entirely her fault and that she regretted it deeply. I was very touched by the gesture. I responded via Facebook Messenger to tell her that I appreciated the card and apology and considered everything forgiven and forgotten. I also told her I had always hoped she was happy and doing well in life and that I enjoyed seeing her last week and confirming that she was well and happy. She again invited us to come and visit, which we may do at some point. I’m not too fond of the San Antonio, which is where she lives, but it might be worth a visit.

That’s a wonderful outcome for your story. Thanks for updating us on the outcome.

I’ll bet your friend was nervous about extending the original invitation. She took a chance knowing you might refuse. It was brave of her to take a chance. She must have done a lot of work on herself since the split. Apologies are always hard ((if it’s sincere) so kudos to her for following through and accepting responsibility for her actions. I hope you’re able to pick the friendship up where you left off.

Today is a therapy day for me. I finished the shoulder 2 weeks ago. That area is pain free now. I’ve had a problem with my hamstring for a few years ago. I never sought treatment but continued limping along. The shoulder therapy worked so well I decided to see what therapy could do for my leg. I injured the spot where the hamstring attaches to the knee. I’m learning stretching exercises and getting ultrasound treatment on it. It would be great if I can go home fairly pain free.

I'm trying to talk DH into PT for his shoulder. He'd rather rely on over the counter rubs and things like that.

You know I'm a big believer in PT so hopefully your leg will respond as well as your shoulder.

As it turns out, I was a day early for my appointment. Better that than a day late. I misread the calendar. I’ll be back there tomorrow. I think the cold I’ve had all week fuzzed up my brain.

My shoulder was my first PT. I’d had a sore shoulder for months. When it started interrupting my sleep and made every day movement difficult that I decided OTC measures weren’t going to fix it. I would think your husband would be willing to try PT if it meant he’d get better. After all, it’s not surgery. And if he had a few sessions and saw no improvement, he could quit. I went from a pain level of 6-7 down to zero. It certainly was worth a couple of months of exercises.

My leg is a combo of stretching exercises, massage and ultrasound treatment. After 3 sessions, I have a bit less pain. I think the ultrasound is doing most of the work. And I’m more consistent about icing it at home.

I know why DH is so afraid of prescription meds (his mom did a real number on her kids in that regard) but he's seen what PT did for me - twice - so I'm like you and not understanding why he's so resistant.

Have you asked him to explain his reasons for avoiding PT. Maybe it’s fear of pain. Or maybe something else. Exploring why might allow him to work through whatever is holding him back.

He wouldn't admit it but I think the truth is it just seems like too much effort.

Therapy went well. I told Dan it was good I did my arm first. We used pulleys, weights and various bands. So it would be harder to do those kinds of exercises without equipment at home. In contrast, the leg is all stretching with no equipment needed. Those exercises will be easy to learn and do at home. I see some results from the ultrasound. I have high hopes the leg will as well as the arm. One of the reasons I started treatment for the shoulder/arm is I couldn’t bear lying on my side anymore. Now I’m back to sleeping on my side with no discomfort.

Helene - DH complains about sleeping on his side so I passed along your experience. We'll see if it nudges him at all.
