Fosse/Verdon starts tonight on FX. Lin-Manuel Miranda is one of the producers and has been hawking it big time on twitter so I'll DVR the first episode and see what I think.

Glad you had a good trip, Jean! I’m sure the jet lag is going to take a few days to get over. I look forward to hearing about your trip when you’re more rested.

Thanks! My niece and I both agreed that we would never walk that much in one day at home. We are tired and sleep is a big issue. Can't go to sleep on Eastern time.

Foster dad uses legos to build wheelchair for kitten with only 2 good legs (who is not old enough yet for a regular pet wheelchair):

Love the idea of the kitty wheelchair!!

Right now, I fall into the last stage of this:

I have 367 pics after deleting some; still need to choose but hard to do as I shoot things from different angles, etc.

    Stupid congressman attacking John Kerry:

When I asked Kerry if he had a science degree, he answered “no” but forgot to turn his microphone on. The left has been using his flub to conceal what this exchange proved which is Kerry admitted he doesn’t have a science degree, even though his degree says “science”

Hilarious responses on Twitter including from John Legend:

Next our great congressman will grill the high school Home Economics teacher on the Fed's monetary policy. "You profess to be an expert on Economics, do you???!!!!"

Some days any more it's either laugh or cry.

I read today without knowing it was a special day. Back home, they used to celebrate it in the local schools. I wonder if they still do it?

That would be a cool thing to celebrate in school!

Jean - I took off to feed the colonies this morning. At the second stop light, I suddenly realized I was sitting behind a car with West Virginia plates! Not something we see often around here.

(I also saw California plates the other day. We NEVER see those. It had 7 letters. I guess with that many people they need all the combinations they can get.)

I ended up with an infected toe 3 days after my pedicure. We have a couple of walk in clinics on the Island but they closed at 4 on Friday and no weekend hours. I didn’t want to let the infection grow until Monday so drove about 10 miles off Island to a clinic affiliated with the hospital system. They were open until 7.

As soon as I got inside, I realized I’d left my purse, with my ID and insurance info at home. We had to drive home for it so I didn’t see the nurse practitioner until 6:15. One look and she agreed it was infected (cellulitis). I gathered she wasn’t a fan of mani/ pedi. She told me to soak my foot in hot water with a tablespoon of bleach in the water. Adding Epsom salts or baking soda to the water is okay. She said I should do the bleach and water soaks every pedicure. I’m passing the information along for if you get pedicures. I’m also on an antibiotic pill and ointment.

The pharmacy was closed by the time I left the clinic so last night was just soakin my foot.

Helene - what a PITA! Hopefully you'll be better soon.

Helene, I hope your infection heals quickly. I get regular manicures and pedicures and so far I haven’t gotten any infections. I don’t allow them to use the rasp on my feet because a neighbor of mine got a very serious infection several years from one of those. Apparently, they aren’t sterilized after each use. Plus, I really don’t like them. I did get an infection on one toe last year but I don’t think I got it from a pedicure. I was able to treat it myself with neosporin and bandaids and it healed quickly.

I went over to Dallas yesterday for lunch with my two good friends from grad school. We almost cancelled due to heavy rain, but decided to go ahead because it’s so hard to find windows of time where all 3 of us are available, and we were all glad we did it. We had a great meal in a nice restaurant and really enjoyed talking and catching up. One of my friends is turning 60 in August, and as is our tradition for our “round” birthdays, planning a girls getaway weekend to celebrate. She’s invited 8 friends to join her for 3 days in Rosemary Beach, Florida. She will provide the accommodations while each of us will pay for our own transportation. I made my plane reservations as soon as I got home! We always have such a good time on these trips, and I’ve never been to this particular beach.

The restaurant where we met yesterday was very interesting. They served a very Mediterranean influenced menu. Instead of a traditional appetizer menu, they offered many unique and interesting combinations of vegetables prepared in a variety of styles. We ordered a sampler of 5 different types and all were delicious. Each dish consisted of about 3-4 bites per person, so they were a nice size to share without killing our appetites for our meal. I ordered a chicken paillard over roasted fingerling potatoes and a salad for my meal and then we all shared a decadent chocolate dessert. The dessert was fairly small, so none of us felt too guilty as again, it was only 3-4 bites per person. The pic below is the three of us. I’m on the end, on the right.

Helene--Hope your infection clears quickly. What a stressor to go have it treated and discover all the necessary stuff was not with you.

Maryanne--Our basic WV plates provides for 8 characters. Of course, most people get the personalized plates with nice backgrounds and personalization. Mine is "Kona Kat." One of the kids asked me if I knew how to spell cat correctly. I told the kid I did but I wanted it to match the K in Kona.

Pam--You look terrific in that picture. You could be a spokesperson for any weight loss effort.

I saw this ad for Noon or something like that which is a weight loss program being hyped as a personally designed program, blah, blah, blah to help you succeed for the cost of a pair of shoes. The cost of the program is $159 for 3 months. I've never paid that for a pair of shoes but I live in an area in which that would be considered an extravagant expenditure. The most I ever paid was $129.

I go back to work this afternoon, and work the next two days. It is called getting back to reality. I made my local doctor's appointment for June, which should give me enough time to get my act together.

I’m with you on the cost of shoes. My most expensive pair of shoes was a good pair of walking shoes for $110. I went to a store that specializes in shoes for athletes. Of course I’m no athlete but I felt like I needed a good, supportive pair of shoes.

Pam, you look beautiful in the picture. Your trip sounds like fun. Where is Rosemary Beach? I’m guessing it’s on the west coast; maybe in the Panhandle? I’ve never been to that part of FL. I’d like to go there but it’s so far from where I live.

Getting the toe treated was a hassle because I didn’t realize I had a problem until 3 o’cloc Friday afternoon. The local facilities closed at 4 and l couldn’t get there before closing. None were open on the weekend and I figured I would be in trouble by Monday. Even with 2 trips to the clinic, I knew I could get in before they closed. I had to wait until Saturday to fill the prescriptions but I started the soaking as soon as I got home. There’s probably a 24 hour CVS in Ft Myers but I hadn’t researched any locations.

It’s feeling less painful so I’ve probably turned the corner.

I'm guessing my Spira shoes cost over $100. They are part of my coordinated effort to get through a cat show weekend with less pain.

Thanks for your kind comments! I was happy with my “look” that day. I actually changed my shirt at the last minute before leaving because I was cold, so it was kind of unplanned, lol!

Helene, Rosemary Beach is in the panhandle area of Florida, near Destin. It’s an upscale, planned community right on Hwy 30A. I’ve been to Destin before, but not RB. The sand there is sugar white and so clean it squeaks when you walk on it. We are hoping for good weather since the trip is planned for the first weekend in October.

Jean, my niece tried Noom and liked it a lot. I think she did a free 3 month trial, but couldn’t afford to go on after that. She liked it and did lose weight on it.

I have spent up to $200 on shoes on one pair, but generally prefer to keep it lower. I got great service out of those shoes since I wore them for work almost daily for about 3 years. I even had them reheeled so I could wear them another year, so I considered the $200 to be money well spent. Unfortunately, since the broken ankle, I’m finding it more difficult to find shoes that provide enough arch support to prevent pain without spending more money. So far, I’m finding some good options with Munro and Clark’s brand shoes, but they are a bit more expensive. Thank goodness for Zappos and their pricing, as well as free shipping. Since I wear a small size, I find it very hard to find shoes locally that fit. Vionic is another brand that has been recommended for me, but so far I haven’t had much luck with their sizing. They seem to run a bit on the long side. I’ve returned a couple of attempts with that brand. They have great arch support, but just don’t fit my foot correctly.

Lin-Manuel's g'morning tweet yesterday really hit me for some reason. So true.

    G'morning
    From a stranger
    We’ve most likely never met
    And yet
    these words have reached you
How damn lucky can we get

Pam - funny that you have to order shoes online because your feet are so small. I order online for the opposite reason. LOL!

Our neighbor is getting a new roof so of course vehicles are illegally parked all over the place and we have "stuff" raining down on our driveway. No prior notice to us of course. No one thinks about anyone else any more. Luckily I'm not parked in the drive way as I have to go feed this morning.
