I listen to commentators describe CNN heroes and think "there are actually still good people living in this country" and then they switch to another horrible story and it's such a contrast.

We had a good time visiting my sister and seeing her daughters as well as some of my cousins. It was a short 24 hour visit, but it went well with no heated discussions or disagreements. The middle daughter and her husband and son are now staying with us for a couple of nights so that they can visit with his family before they head back home to Virginia on Tuesday. Tomorrow we are planning to ride the train from our town to downtown Fort Worth then we will take a bus over to the historic Stock Yards district and spend the afternoon exploring that area. I think it will be fun and somewhat educational for their 11 year old son. Twice a day they do a cattle drive with longhorn steers and cowboys on horseback. There are lots of shops and restaurants, so I think it will be a fun excursion.

On Tuesday I was supposed to go to one of the museums in Fort Worth with some friends to see a new Monet exhibit, but I think I will cancel on that outing. We are leaving Wednesday for 4 days in Houston with DH’s family, so I will need a little time to prepare for that. After having guests here, I think I’ll appreciate having some downtime before our trip.

I've been decluttering up a storm this weekend. After weeks of effort, I've got the first two floors 90-95% done but keep thinking of more I can do. I lie around when I need a break and take a mental tour; thinking of nooks and crannies not yet touched. Meanwhile, I am woefully behind on filing. I have three sets of files here - personal, work and CROM - and all THREE are behind. So I'm digging in. Produced two boxes of shredded paper already for recycling. Have 2 boxes ready to take to the office to be scanned. But lots more to do. I have an appointment tomorrow morning but have carefully been keeping my Tuesday morning clear (while DH is at work). Probably my only time to "work around" him this week (LOL!)

Great job on the decluttering. I wish I could say I’ve been as productive. We’ve had the hot, humid weather for several days. We don’t have AC so I’ve been I’ve been feeling the heat.
We picked up the new truck Friday. We ran out time and the service department closed before we finished all the paperwork. We have to go back for the state inspection sticker today. We dropped the old truck off in the morning so they could move some equipment from there to the new truck. We had use of a rental car for the day. It had lane assist which alerts you if you stray over the yellow or white lines. I discovered I tend to hug the shoulder so the alert went off several times when my wheel touched the white line. I wasn’t aware I did that so it was a teachable moment for me. The truck has that same feature.

Hugging the shoulder is a bad thing? Now you tell me. LOL! (I always thought it just kept me from hitting oncoming vehicles).

I'm headed to the Toyota dealer. Light came on on my dashboard and AC is off. My trusty google says maybe alternator belt (whatever the heck that is). NOT the month in Baltimore to be without vehicle AC.

I’ve been up since 5 am because my niece and her family wanted to get an early start for their drive home to Williamsburg, VA this morning, so don’t hold me responsible for any incoherence in this post, lol! We enjoyed their visit, but it will be nice to have my house and routine back, even if only for a day. We leave tomorrow afternoon to spend 4 days with DH’s family to celebrate his birthday.

I think I mentioned that I saw my ortho doc last week for the hip pain I’ve been having and was given a steroid injection in the hip at that time. My pain has been completely gone since the evening I got the injection, but the doctor wanted me to follow up with some PT. I just got home from that evaluation. The therapist thought there was a bit of imbalance in the strength of my left hip versus my right hip and that that was causing the issues I’ve been having, so the focus of treatment will be to strengthen the muscles on my right side to achieve more of a balance. Should be a relatively short course of therapy with exercises that I can do at home. I came home with instructions and pictures of 4 exercises to start with. More will be added when I go back next week.

I decided to bow out of the trip to the museum today with my friends. I could have squeezed it in, but I’m tired after last weekend’s trip, having company, and then the extremely early start to my day today. I think I wouldn’t have enjoyed the trip today because I’d be thinking of all the things I need to get done prior to leaving tomorrow. The exhibit just opened a couple of weeks ago and should be here for awhile, so I’ll have other opportunities to go.

Huge crowds lined the streets and one observer called the procession "the most brilliant ever seen in America.” For more info visit (link: https://bit.ly/2ZbfNiU) bit.ly/2ZbfNiU #Hamilton

Pam - sounds like you're getting a lot of family time. That's really great.

Good luck with the PT on the hip!!

I am having a completely boring day today. It started last night with severe thunderstorms and a tornado warning for our area. Such a warning is extremely rare in my part of the country. I switched the TV to a local station and they were showing the areas under the watch and posting times when an area was all clear. The warning passed with just heavy rain. I watched TV for a while and went to bed. My phone started sounding a weather alert around 10:30 this morning. Once again, we were under a storm and tornado warning. I switched on the Boston station and found the warning centered one town south of me and was moving towards Martha's Vineyard. I was relieved about that but w were still in the path of wind and rain. No problem. I was safely at home. The power went out just before before noon as heavy rain and strong wind gusts buffeted my neighborhood. I waited until the rain had stopped and then called the power company's automated line to report our outage. About and hour later, we got an automated call saying crews were assessing the damage. working on the outage and I should have power by 2:30. It's now two hours past that and we still have no power or updates on when we might get it.

I read a book by flashlight for about an hour but it was too awkward to be enjoyable. I suggested to DH we take a ride to the library to see if they have power. They do so I'm using the computer, enjoying the AC and will catch up on People Magazine. It was darkish in our house even though sunset (what sun?) isn't for 3 hours. If we don't stet a call before 7 when the library closes, we'll probably get dinner out somewhere. We located our flashlights and lanterns before we left the house. This may end up a very early to bed night.

Helene - never fun to be without power! We have a generator but it's a standalone. I wish we'd get a whole house generator.

Power back on after 34 hours. Falling trees took down a pole a quarter mile away. Phone company had to replace pole before power company could replace the wires. Two tornadoes touched down a couple of towns north of me. The worst hit town may not have power back before Frieday night. Compared to that, I guess I count myself lucky.

I had a crazy day. I went for my doctor’ Appointment only to be told I wasn’t on the schedule. The young man on reception asked who made the appointment. I asked his name and told him it was him. I had called at the end of June. He said he writes everything down and started looking in his notebook. I told him to look in late June. He finds me and says I had an appointment June 27th and didn’t show. I politely told him he may have been looking at June but told me July. I suggested we do a new appointment. He gave me one next Tuesday. When I got home,I realized I had a conflict and needed to reschedule. I called and got a young woman who told me my appointment was this afternoon at the same time as the Tuesday appointment. I told her I had the appointment card for June 30th. She didn’t doubt it. She transferred me to scheduling and I left a voice mail. I had an eye appointment in the next town that would have overlapped this afternoon’s appointment if I’d been inclined to keep it. I didn’t get a call back before I was on my way home so I went in person. It’s only 10 minutes from my house. When I walked in, he apologized and said he hadn’t gotten to calls yet. Since it’s a physical, the first date was end of September. That was fine because it gives me more time to lose a bit more weight.

He was telling me how short staffed they are and I can believe it. He thanked me for being so nice about the mix up. It wasn’t a big deal because it was so close to home.. I might have felt differently if I’d driven 20 miles like I did for the eye appointment.

I'm glad you have power but 34 hours is a long time! Friday night is awful!

I think between climate change and the aging infrastructure we're going to have more and more issues.

I just ran around and did a TON of errands, including getting the first Shingrix shot. So I can finish that off in 2 months, before winter sets in!

    Okay, today I did errands:

Storage unit - paid bill, dropped off items to sell from my decluttering efforts

Office - dropped off boxes of files to be scanned

Vet - bought food, looked at pictures and video of one of our adopted cats (adopted by friend of receptionist), petted our cat in the adoption cage, met donor in parking lot to pick up donated cat show items

Storage unit - dropped off new donations

Grocery store - got first Shingrix shot and bought a few groceries

Home - answered work emails and finished up a project; then made dinner (BLTs and sweet potato fries (my reward for being a big girl and getting my shot))

    Now - I am TIRED!!!

So far, Shringrex hasn’t made it here yet. I checked Walgreens last week. They said they might have it in August. It shouldn’t be this hard to do something that will help keep me healthy.

If we'd been able to get it here when it first came out I would never have had to suffer shingles. The Giant grocery store seems to be having it fairly regularly now. I'm going to get the second shot at the earliest possible time if it's still available. No sense waiting.

I'm getting my second shot next week. My CVS/Target pharmacy called me last week to remind me I was due for it and confirmed that they have it on hand. I was busy with company and getting ready to go out of town myself, so I asked if they could hold my dose until I was back in town and they agreed to do so. I want to get to it done, but the first one made my arm really sore so I didn’t want to be dealing with that while I was out of town.

So far the PT for my hip is making it hurt more and may be making my back hurt as well. I don’t go back until Friday so we will see if it gets better or worse.

My arm is a little sore - noticed when I rolled over last night - but not too bad!

Pam - I really hope you don't have a bad experience with PT!!!!

CNN's Victor Blackwell became emotional while responding to President Donald Trump's tweets calling Rep. Elijah Cummings' (D-MD) district a "very dangerous & filthy place" and calls out the President's repeated use of the word "infested" while attacking minority lawmakers.

Note: I live in Elijah Cummings' district.

Equifax class action suit. DH and I both plugged our info into their online tool. I wasn't affected; he was and can file a claim.

Here's an article that includes a link to the online tool:

Thanks for that info. I checked and we’re both affected. As far as Shringrex, I’ll have to check Stop and Shop. They have the same parent company and the logo (purple and mustard) is the same.
