Jean - I'm always amazed you work so early in the year. (I can just see our principal if one of us had taken off that early in the year - our lives would have been h*** the rest of the year (unless we could prove we were dying or nearly dying)0

Reminds me of my former roommate’s cat that terrorized me for a year!0 -
I got that look a few times in my life from our cats. I love that feline independence streak. Cats rule.0

So far, my DIY on my Nook battery appears to be successful. I hadn’t realized how poorly the old battery was performing. I was needing to charge it almost every other day and that was only using it for an hour or two a day, at the most. The new battery has been charged only once and is showing to still be at 90% after about 5 days of use. I’m very glad I decided to give replacing the battery a try!
Today I don’t have much going on until this afternoon. I am putting together a cheese board appetizer tray to take to a friend’s house for a little Happy Hour. Another friend is bringing the wine. Our friend’s husband is in very poor health, requires 3 times a week dialysis, and just recently had a very scary incident requiring a week’s hospitalization. She was unable to leave him to join the rest of the gang for HH last week, so a few of us are taking HH to her today. DH may go along to keep her DH company while the ladies visit, if her DH is feeling up to having a visitor.0 -

Me, too! Cats are so independent and so much fun to share the household with. The first thing DH fell in love with was how individual they all are. He wasn't a cat person before but he is now.0 -

How great of all of you to do that. CROM's storage unit is next to a dialysis place (middle of nowhere pretty much, I'd hate to have to go somewhere that dismal for dialysis but I I digress). Today I saw an ambulance over there with lights flashing. I wonder how often that happens.
My friend who had a stroke is having some other issues. For example, at the moment her house has no water. Today I talked her into letting me do a very overdue cleanout of her van and then took her to lunch. I offered to have her come over and wash clothes and she'll think about that but someone else already took a bunch of her clothes home to wash.0 -
I went to the orthopedic today to get a cortisone injection before school starts, as my leg had been bothering me. I was a little early but I was overwhelmed when I saw the waiting room stuffed to the gills. It was hard finding a seat. Where I sat, I could count the people and came up with 67 people there for afternoon appointments. That was a lot of co-pays collected today.
I now have 7 sub days scheduled through Oct. 15. Some may be mental health days, medical, professional development. etc. The law gives them 15 days a year to use and days not used accumulate for future use. At one time, unused sick leave at retirement could be used as credit toward calculating retirement pay. I had the equivalent of 2-1/2 years of unused sick leave that counted toward experience and retirement pay. It could also be used on insurance when retired. The State did away with that so there isn't much incentive not to use the days.0 -

Maryanne, how come she doesn’t have water? Is it a temporary thing like having plumbing work done? If not, how can she stay there. I hope she gets it resolved soon.
Pam, what a kind thing for you and your friends to do. Your friends are lucky to have you in their lives.
Jean, I retired with a lot of sick time. The town took back 150 days, divided the rest by 3 and paid me for that amount. DH worked for the federal government. They increased his years of service by the amount of sick time he had at retirement. He got credit for an extra year. Neither of us used much sick time. I felt anyone could be in an accident or get a major illness and would need sick time.0 -

Helene - the good news is she has a neighbor who considers her family who can fix the plumbing. The bad news is that means he doesn't feel compelled to get to it right away.
It's been over 20 years since I last had any paid time off. I remember it fondly (although I've never had a job where you could actually take much of it without subjective consequences).

I can’t imagine a job without some sick time and vacation time. We had very good benefits. After my first ten years, I got five weeks vacation. I usually carried at least a week of it over every year. We could carry six weeks over. I got paid for all my unused vacation time when I retired. DH likes to joke that he gets no sick time, vacation days or holidays since he retired. Of course no inducement would have persuaded him to go back to that job.0

Stacy Abrams is not going to run for president but has launched an effort to combat voter suppression in battleground states:

That woman is an inspiration!0 -
Stacy did the Democratic response after the State of the Union address. Her speech was excellent and she’s pretty impressive. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about her in years to come.0

One beautiful, feisty cat. The best kind.0

It is a beautiful sunny day. I hate to th ink that we are one more day closer to Winter. I've been killing time this weekend watching HGTV. Some of those renovations are remarkable. I saw one last night in which they used old vinyl music records found in a storage and used them on the wall. I thought it was tacky but when done and room furnished, it looked great. I wouldn't want it but the prospective couple with a music interest loved it.
Will HGTV pay for a renovation and what minimum is required?

I got a ton of chores done this weekend. Did two pages of the next newsletter. Got other paperwork caught up! Many, many truly miscellaneous chores.
One downside of decluttering is trying to remember where you put things. LOL!

Maryanne--I also have a problem remembering where things are organized when I re-organize to make it easier. Love the "day off" but both are good.0
-
One thing I discovered in my decluttering was a whole lot of prints (cat of course) and original paintings. Since my walls are full, they were squirreled away. I measured them all and ordered frames and trying to get them ready to sell at cat shows. Fighting with frames of all different types is not my forte. I've had to enlist DH's help for a couple of them. Most recently this weekend. I had ordered from England four frames that hold three ACEOs each for a cute set of prints I have. Some are moonlight; some are sunset. All have one black cat in the first, two black cats in the second and three black cats in the third. When the frames came I couldn't for the life of me figure out how the back worked but Mr. Fix-it of course did. I guess I just don't speak "British". LOL!0

Maryanne--Those prints will look fabulous when framed. I'm sure they will sell well if you can actually part with them
I'm home from work, which was a fun day. I'm relaxing by watching HGTV.1 -
I uncovered ***cough*** 29 ***cough*** original Anne Marsh paintings. Those are in page protectors in a binder to put on the cat show table. I'm framing the stuff that doesn't fit in a page protector.
I also found two original Gladys Emerson Cook pastels. I've got an original on the wall already that is far nicer than either of those.
Everything else is a print.
When I say there is no room on our walls, I truly mean it. If I uncovered something nicer than what I have already hung I might be tempted to swap out but so far I haven't.
With two exceptions.....
I uncovered an already framed Artist's Proof of an Irene Spencer print that I just had to make room for:
Also, because I'm a black cat nut as well as an Anne Marsh fan, I might be compelled to keep one of those trios of black cat ACEOs.0 -
The decluttering is mostly done except for work files, photos and the "rat hole". Heaven only knows what all I'll find in the rat hole. Anything in there has been in there longer than any place I've attacked so far.
And of course I keep thinking of stray drawers I've forgotten. But major progress so far!0
