My niece and a mutual friend came to the house when they realized they hadn't seen me post on Facebook nor had a text from me in two days. They came at the end of the second day when I didn't answer my phone or cell. The phone was on the other side of the bed and the cell was in another room being charged. As I said, I wouldn't wish this on anyone but hope others learn from my experience not to take things for granted. I had done that same move several times before with no problems but I gu ess this time I reached a little too far. The bed is now moved so that there is more room in case I need room to maneuver should it happen again. It doesn't help that I have a back issue in which the nerves don't communicate well as a result of a fracture years ago. I have very little upper body strength.
People are making sure they look for a text from me everyday, etc. I carry my cell phone with me when I remember. I enrolled in one of those medical alert systems. It is cellular based and runs off ATT. It has a gps in it. It comes with a main base and a very small one for the handbag when out and about. It comes with a lanyard, a wrist version, and a Help Button to put in a location you think would be desirable. It also includes a lock box to put the keys for emergency personnel to use to enter the home. I'm paying $256 every six months for this.

Thanks for all of the support. I actually feel good right now. I've been up around ten hours. I got up and sat in the comfy chair at 5am in the hospital. The bed does nothing good for your muscles. Are you ready for this figure? The physical therapist said that for every day of bed rest, an individual will lose 3% of their muscle tone and the muscles will gradually waste away at that rate.

I didn’t realize you are still in the hospital. I do believe the figures the physical therapist gave you about how quickly you lose muscle tone when inactive. I certainly saw it for myself when I was recovering from my broken ankle and spent months in a chair or bed with a wound vac attached to me 24/7.
It sounds like you are setting up all the appropriate precautions for going forward. People who live alone really have to be extra vigilant about safety in the home, and setting up some check in systems with others. I know when DH goes out of town, I make a point of putting a cordless phone on my nightstand so I can (hopefully) reach it easily if I need it in the night. I’m so sorry you’re going through this! I hope you feel better and stronger every day.0 -
I didn’t realize that you were still in the hospital. Is it because of the blood clot? Where is Midnight while you are in the hospital. It sounds like you have a good plan to check on you going forward. A friend of mine had to get one of those lock boxes. She took a number of falls and called us. We were able to unlock the door for the paramedics. But we spend the winter in FL. Hence the lockbox. Police and fire carry a special key to open the box to get a house key. Have they given you any idea when you can go home?0
-
Jean - I'm glad you are upping your precautions. Better safe than sorry! That's an amazing fact about the loss of muscle tone!0

Great lines from a tv movie:
A pessimist sees the dark tunnel.
An optimist sees the light at the end of the tunnel.
A realist sees the train coming.

I'm not in the hospital. I was sent home on Thursday when they couldn't do the cardioversion because of the blood clot. It was a small clot so it is dissolving at home. I spent 6 days in the hospital. The type of AFib I had before was the type that would come and go and would last a very short time. This has been non-stop since the accident. Picture walking non-stop for that long with a heart rate that finally settle into the 120s and 130s. Is it physically exhausting? I am tired and sleepy all the time.0
-
My friend had the type of Afib that kicked up about every two days. It would take the better part of a day to stop. She had 2 procedures. The first one didn’t do that much. The second was a real success. I asked her recently if she was still getting episodes. The good news was she hasn’t had any attacks since the second procedure. I hope you get that kind of results. She may have needed 2 procedures because of the frequency of her attacks.0

jean - that sounds terrible. I really hope the doctors can help!!!0

Comic: the day the cat met Alexa (please note that the cat in the cartoon has a tipped ear: universal symbol of a cat from a managed colony, like my Indy):

Maryanne---Love the cat meeting Alexa. Midnight has slept with me every night since I have returned home.
I went with MobileHelp from this review page and another. Why? No hard sell and were very good at answering questions plus they were the only one to return a call over the holiday.

$256 for six months, slightly less had I paid for a full year but six months worked for me. Now to wait for the thing to arrive.0 -
Six months sounds like a good plan. That will give you time to research other products to compare prices and services. What product did you have before?
My sister and BIL evacuated to our home on Sanibel. They live just above Okeechobee inamobile home. It wasn’t safe to stay but the path of the storm was too uncertain to leave. At one point, all of FL was a possible route. We’re on a barrier island and would have had mandatory evacuation. Sanibel is in the clear so they headed there yesterday. Its good to know they’re safe.0 -
Helene--I could have paid for a year but the savings over six months was not that much. I have 30 days to use it with return for full credit. I didn't have a "help I've fallen" type alert before the accident. I do hope the storm doesn't affect your family.0
-
I think they’ll be safe The storm is moving up the east coast so everything is calm and nice weather on the west coast. I’ll be speaking to my other sister tonight. She lives in North Myrtle Beach. I’d guess she’s a mile back from the beach. I don’t know if she’s in an evacuation area or not. If so, they haven’t left yet. My brother is 30 minutes inland from her. I can guarantee he won’t evacuate. During Florence, last year, parts of his town had bad flooding. He lived far enough from the river that he was totally dry. I think that’s given him the feeling his area is completely safe. I hope he’s right. My sister will know what his plans are.0
-
DH's boss is scheduled to go to Myrtle Beach this weekend. He seems to pick the worst times and places to vacation.0
-
We are going to Orange Beach, AL this weekend for a week with DH’s family. It appears that the storms are not going anywhere close to that area, so we should have a good week. I was afraid Dorian might go straight across Florida and if so, that would have put our vacation spot right in its path. Looks like the Bahamas is pretty much devastated. I’ve only been there a couple of times in the 80’s, but it was a lovely place to visit. Hopefully they can rebuild and will receive enough aid to survive until they can.0
-
The Bahamas situation is horrible; hopefully they will get better assistance from the UK than what rural Puerto Rico got from the U.S.
I am watching 600LB Life on Hulu. Dr. Now is confronting a patient about her excuses for not losing weight before surgery. Said patient stated she had been in her body for 26 years so she knew what worked for her.The doc said he had been a doctor far longer and knew what med and science said. The patient retorted with "If God wants me to lose weight then I will."

I’m surprised Dr Now didn’t give her walk-in papers on the spot.0
-
Which adorable "contestant" was that? Sounds like Penny. She's a legend on the bulletin boards.
It takes a LOT for Dr. Now to fire them, at least if they're on the show. I think it's a combo of the patience of a saint and the needs of the show.
I haven't watched any of those for awhile. I need to get back into better habits, including the treadmill which is when I watch things like that. The last year was horrendous - broken wrist/surgery, cardiac issues, blood pressure issues, shingles. But I feel like I'm out the other side and need to get back in the groove.
On the lighter side, I saw my oncologist yesterday for my yearly visit. Because the CT scan of my lungs hasn't changed in years we always end up looking for something to just chit chat about (he's the head of oncology but partially retired and not at all rushed). Yesterday it was his son. I had a little excitement in the morning because the hospital web site showed him in a new location, complete with driving directions. But turns out it's not accurate.
Today I need to finish up the week's grocery shopping which usually gets done Wednesday.0 -

This is hilarious. Trump or one of his people doctored this map with a sharpie to try to backup one of his more ridiculous lies:
Beginning of one of today's Washington Post editorials:
President Trump has never been good at governing, and has never been able to fulfill the mourner-in-chief role. But wasn’t he a better liar and more clever grifter once upon a time?

I guess this is the latest. Taking a photo to show you your amazon package after delivery. Next to the bird bath with the ground bird feeder in the background.

Hmm--I haven't seen a photo of my delivered Amazon package.
On the contestant who thought she knew more than Dr. Now, he considered that she was frustrated and spoke without really meaning it. He tried to call her at home but she blocked his number.
I no longer get anything from NS. I remember how I liked the scones and other foods that gradually disappeared. I just shop Lean Cuisine, Smart Ones, etc now.0 -
I haven’t gotten any NS foods in several years. At first they kept sending me attractive incentives to come back. I guess they’ve given up on me. I haven’t had an email from them in ages.0
-
I don’t order from NutriSystem anymore either. I can find better foods for less money at the grocery store and have more variety as well. They are still trying to woo me back, though. I get emails at least once a week from them.0
