Is this supposed to be an "I'm super honest and friendly; hire me" face? Or a wanted poster?

Today I baked and decorated a birthday cake for a friend. Another friend is hosting a party for her tomorrow night and she requested her favorite cake, Dixie General’s Cake. The story goes that this was General Robert E. Lee’s favorite cake. It is really delicious, but it’s a pain to make, lol! It’s got lots of lemon and orange zest as well as freshly squeezed lemon and orange juice in it, so it tastes very fresh and summery. Here’s a picture.

I also saw my family practice doctor today for a regularly scheduled appointment. It was timely because an issue has come up with my blood pressure medication. The one I’ve been taking since last October works great, but unfortunately it’s no longer available. I learned this when I called in a request for a refill and the pharmacy informed me that they could no longer get this drug. So the doctor today agreed to switch me to a different drug in the same category, so we will see if it does as well as the other drug.

Pam - that cake looks fantastic!

Here's hoping the new blood pressure meds work.

That cake is gorgeous. I wonder if they realize how much work goes into it. DH might have been taking the same BP med as you. He hasn’t been able to get it since April. Turns out there is a recall on it. Before we knew that, we tried multiple drugstores without success. His doctor changed it to another drug. The only downside is he has to take that one twice a day. We found one dose of Shingrex at CVS. Since DH has more health concerns, I had him take it. I’ll keep checking for myself. They said they are only allotted a limited amount at a time.

I'm really, really hoping I'll be able to get the second Shingrix does when it's due. DH has had both now.

I checked online today to make sure our water bill was showing as paid. This has been a LONG saga from ransomware attack to getting back online to getting meters read to sending out bills. The web site says they are sending out 10,000 bill a day.

Went to the hairdresser today. Did some work for a client. That's about it!

I’m totally frustrated right now with the blood pressure medication issue. The medication I was on before was a combo of two meds. One was called Losartain and the other was Hydrochlorothyazide. Apparently the issue is that there were manufacturing issues related to this drug resulting in several recalls and shortages. When I called my pharmacy to refill my prescription they were unable to refill it due to it being on back order. At that point they called my doctor and asked him what he wanted to do. He authorized them to separate the drugs and fill them separately so I would take 2 pills instead of one. When I saw him yesterday I told him I would prefer to only take one pill so he ordered a different drug in the same class, however when I arrived at the pharmacy they informed me that this drug was not on my drug plan’s formulary. So I ended up accepting the 2 separate prescriptions option even though it is not my preference. At this point I’m just tired of messing with it. I’ve been trying for 2 weeks to refill this prescription. They wore me down, I guess.

I just got home from my friend’s birthday party. It was a lot of fun and the birthday cake was a hit, which always makes me feel good.

DH will be back from his camping trip tomorrow night, so my week of freedom is over, lol!

Pam - you could have a custom pharmacy make up combo capsules but likely your insurance wouldn't pay. I use them all the time for our cats' pills. They can combine drugs, make dosage amounts not otherwise available, make colored capsules (so if I find a capsule on the floor I know what it is), etc. Sometimes they can even make medications not otherwise being sold.

Maryanne, I’m sure my drug plan wouldn’t cover that. The two separate prescriptions cost me $6 total for a 90 day supply. It’s really just a convenience thing for me in wanting to only have 1 pill instead of 2 but it’s really not a big problem. Just a change in the routine to get used to.

I’m going to see The Art of Racing in the Rain later today with a friend. I read the book a few years ago and loved it, so nice I will enjoy this movie, although it has some sad parts. DH will be back from his camping trip tonight, so my vacation will be over, lol!

Pam - we want a non specific report on how sad that movie is. From what I've read, I don't think I could handle it.

Sorry your vacation is over! When DH cut back his work to 2 days a week, I really missed having the house to myself those other 3 days. Now I'm campaigning hard for him to keep going to work those two days. House to myself plus income plus keeps him involved with the world - win, win, win.

I actually take 3 blood pressure pills plus a cholesterol drug plus tylenol plus supplements so one more or less I admit I wouldn't notice.

If you want to get clever, you might be able to buy some empty capsules to put your pills in (depends how big they are). I do that with Jack's meds (I'm using our late Gordy's leftover capsules).

You could also ask your doctor to send in a form to the insurance company telling them you need this particular drug. My doctor did that for me when a prescription I needed wan't on the formulary. Blue Cross sent me a letter saying they would cover t for a year. By then, the drug I needed was on the formulary list. He could say the covered medication you were taking isn't available and this drug is in the same class. It couldn't hurt to try that route.

To my surprise, I'm down a pound today. I often weigh daily but hadn't done it this week. I'd eaten out and thought I should check if I'd gain. So the reading was a pleasant surprise. I'm down 8 pounds since leaving FL.

The movie was very good, IMO. Very faithful to the book as best I can recall it. I read the book at least 5 years ago, so I may not have remembered all the details. There are some very sad parts in the movie, but they have more to do with events happening to the human characters than to the dog, if that would make it easier to handle the sadness. The way it ends was on a positive note.

Yep I'm much better with sad things happening to people, at least grown up people. Kids and animals, not so much!

ancestry.com has some new features. They've updated their DNA results, I assume due to updated science. The Scandinavian references that had puzzled me are now (almost) gone from my results. And they are now telling me that I likely had ancestors and may still have relatives in the area on this map. That's where I grew up. Spooky......
