Safe travels home, Pam. You’ll have to tell us what was your favorite part of the trip after you get home and rested up.

Pam--Safe travels home; you have created some wonderful memories and worth the risk of a weight gain. Perhaps you lost if you didn't care for the Greek food that much.

Maryanne--I am about out of the Diet Direct pancake mix packets. I think I will be stocking up at the next sale.

Helene--Congrats upon the continued weight loss. Seeing continued losses are very motivating.

I've been working this week so I'm tired. Inspired by Helene, I ordered a new scale as mine was starting to fluctuate on weigh ins when done immediately after each. We have had below normal temperatures and that called for comfort food. I hate Winter.

    Inspiration is good!

After we set up the flea market yesterday I took the two volunteers to dinner at Bob Evans because it was convenient. Never again. It was COLD here so we all ordered either coffee or tea only to discover they have no creamer. A place that serves all day breakfast has no creamer? Really? The manager came out to apologize and explain and so many customers have complained that they are bringing it back. In a few months. Meanwhile they brought us some of those little packets that leave stuff floating on the top of your beverage. After two replacements, and the same result each time, we finally gave up and drank water. The menu did have calories. Boy, is that a shock in a restaurant! I had a grilled chicken breast, mashed potatoes no gravy and sugar snaps. The chicken breast was awful and the sugar snaps half singed. I'll never go to a Bob Evans again.

Good news at the retina specialist on Thursday. No new tears and my pressure continues to be in the normal range. Macula good. I do have early stages of cataracts but I've had that for awhile so doesn't seem to be progressing rapidly or anything.

Pam - sounds like it was a wonderful trip but I'm sure you'll be glad to be home.

I don't know offhand if I've ever had any Greek food. Doesn't actually sneak into Dutch country PA or sweet tea MD.

That’s terrible customer service. They could at least have brought you some milk for your coffee. They must sell glasses of milk to children. Have you considered sending a comment to corporate? I did that years ago with Pizza Uno asking why they didn’t have a printed GF menu. People like DH had to go to the front of the restaurant and look at a computer screen to order. Talk abut making them feel different. I got a nice response ack telling me I was right and within a short time, they had nice printed menus. Today they have added gf into the regular menu.

Jean, good decision on the new scale. I hope you got one that measures tenths of a pound. As I’m a slow loser like you, seeing a couple of tenths drop every few days has made a big difference to me and kept me more on track.

We had fun at the flea market today. Got to pet a bunch of dogs and even an Australian Heeler. A lot of the dogs were available for adoption and folks were just walking them around to meet people.

Strange food service though. This just wasn't our weekend for food. One of the volunteers is disabled so I always get her food. Everything she wanted was gone so I took her other stuff. Chose something that didn't require condiments because the onions, ketchup and mustard were empty. Got ham in the plain grilled cheese I ordered. Got chicken soup. The only crackers were in a long sleeve - sanitary much?????

Luckily I'd taken my own food. LOL!

That sounds pretty unappetizing. We were out doing errands today. We both got haircuts and I got a manicure. I have a follow up Monday with the physician assistant to see how my PT went. I scheduled a pedicure after I see her. I don’t like to do both on the same day because it takes too much time. I’d rather split them up. And a pedicure lasts longer on me anyway. We went to Subway for lunch and I tried one of their sliders with a cup of soup. It was only in the high 30s today so the soup was very welcome. I love soup and could eat it every day.

Did you sell a lot at the flea market?

We got home last night about 9:30 after a very long day traveling. We were fortunate that none of our flights were affected by the Lufthansa strike, but many of the others on our tour were not as lucky. The tour company really worked to get all of them rebooked on alternative flights with a minimum of inconvenience. I was very impressed by this tour company. We had never heard of them prior to this trip and feared that it might not be as good as some of the others we had heard of due to the extremely good price of our trip. However, they were excellent in every way. The hotels we stayed in were 4 star, breakfast and dinner were included every day, and in some cases lunch as well. The tour guides were extremely knowledgeable as well as personable, and the professional driver we had for the land portion went above and beyond in every way possible, often driving ahead to our hotels while we were at historic sites so that our luggage was unloaded and waiting in our rooms when we checked into our hotels at night. The cruise portion was also excellent. Although the ship was older, it was very well maintained and clean, and very efficiently operated. On a 4 day cruise we were able to make stops at 6 different islands, so we really weren’t onboard the ship much during the daytime, but while onboard all meals were included as well as drinks, including beer, wine, soft drinks, and mixed drinks. That is not the case on other cruises we have taken. We had a tour host while onboard the ship as well, and she was also excellent. She even gave one of the ladies in the group a pair of her own shoes because she had inadvertently packed all of her shoes the night before disembarkation and had no shoes to wear off the ship!

The trip was extremely busy almost every day. Most days we were up and having a buffet breakfast by 6:30 or 7:00 and on the road by around 7:30. We usually got to our hotels around 4:00 and could go into whatever town was nearby or stay at the hotel for a buffet dinner. We were always too tired to do anything but eat at the hotel and fall into bed after getting organized for the next day. We would have a wake up call early every morning, put luggage outside the door a half hour later, eat breakfast, then head out to that day’s itinerary. The cruise portion was a nice break from that routine since we finally had a chance to unpack and not have to be as rushed every morning.

We did have 2 days in Athens at the beginning of the trip, and another day at the end. The first 2 days we we were with our guide but the last day we were on our own. We paired up with another couple and went back to an area called The Plaka which is at the foot of the Acropolis and is an older part of the city where there are lots of restaurants and shops. We also visited a museum that had many statues that were originally part of the Acropolis and had a glass floor in many parts of the museum as it had been built on top of a partially excavated ruin. It was very interesting, although I think we were all too tired by that time to fully appreciate it.

It’s hard to pick out a favorite part of the trip because it was all spectacular. Our last stop on the cruise was Santorini, which is the home of the white churches with blue domed roofs that you often see on postcards featuring the island. We arrived just minutes before sunset, so it was a mad scramble to get to a good vantage point for pictures before the sun went down, but well worth it for the beautiful views.

My weight was up, as I expected, but not quite as high as I feared. I plan to start exercising as soon as I can, but this morning I hurt my back again so I’m not sure when I’ll be able to start that. Right now I can barely move at all without pain.

Today starts the last week before we head to FL. I have a ton of things to finish up this week. I have an appointment to follow up with the physician’s assistant. She wants to see how my PT worked. I have a pedicure this afternoon and several appointments to do before and after the appointment.

I had a great follow up appointment this morning. The main reason was to check on my PT progress. If I hadn’t made good progress, the PA was planning to refer me to an orthopedic doctor. So I won’t be needing the services of one. Yay.

I also had lab tests a few weeks ago. Everything came out normal and a few tests were better than average. My cholesterol was 139 and they like it less than 200. My LDL and HDL levels were great. I did a little deep breathing before having my blood pressure check. It was 130 over 72. She wanted me to get a bone scan but I didn’t remember that coming up. I guess we talked about so may things I didn’t remember talking about one. So I’ll have one when I come from FL next spring. I have mild osteopenia and that’s why she wanted it checked. My last one was about 2 years ago. I’m doing a better job remembering to take my vitamin D. I was pretty sporadic about taking it before this.

Jean, did you get the new scale yet? I got mine from Amazon and had it the next day. I’m working my way through a to do list before we leave for FL Monday. We dropped off the mail forwarding card and did some banking. I’m gathering bills, doing laundry and packing. I still have to clean out the refrigerator.

I picked up our Jack today. He had a dental yesterday and now has no teeth (also no nose and only 1 kidney). Poor thing has one of those awful cones on. I hope he'll eat with it on.

Thanks. It’s always nice to get good feedback. Of course, that means I have no excuses for avoiding exercise hen I get to FL. My knee is better and my health is good. Now I have to get my motivation to match my physical abilities.

I’m trying to do better at nutrition. I’m cooking more meals from scratch. I’m working in more seafood since DH was getting sick of chicken. In the last week, we’ve had salmon, swordfish, scallops, shrimp and tilapia. I cooked the scallops in the air fryer with just a little bit of olive oil. They came out pretty good. I broiled the swordfish, baked the salmon and tilapia and stir fried the shrimp with quinoa and veggies.

I came home from running around yesterday to discover DH had taken off Jack's cone. So far I haven't had the heart to be the bad guy and put it back on. DH's argument is that he couldn't stand watching him try to get a drink of water. (And everyone thinks I'm the softie). And that Jack is so laid back he can't picture him worrying his mouth. The critical care folks had told me that he'd only eat with the collar off. So I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place. Right now the collar is still off.

Poor Jack! I hope he does paw at his mouth and gives it a chance to heal.
I’m doing my last loads of laundry so I can get my suitcase packed. I have some bills to mail and more non-clothes packing to do. I wanted to pick up a couple more audio books for the trip and return any books I have checked out. Lee Child and Michael Connolly both have new books coming out. I’ve put in requests at my FL library which will activate in December.

We have a trip to CT tomorrow to the dentist. It’s just cleanings. The timing isn’t great but DH’s brother wants us to spend a few days in NJ on our way south. They’re going to CA for Thanksgiving so that dictates our travel schedule. So the dental trip takes a day away that we could have spent packing. DH made a Christmas arrangement that we’ll bring to his parents grave. It’s in the town next to where the dentist is.

So pretty busy schedule the next few days. We leave on Monday.

My back is finally getting less painful, but still giving me some problems. I have so many things I need to do, but just can’t right now.

Helene, it does sound like your to do list is very long. Good luck getting it all done. You are doing so well with your healthy routine right now, from exercising to eating healthier. Keep it up and you’ll keep seeing good results on your scale.

This afternoon DH wants me to go with him to the AT&T store to get new iPhones. He’s been using my old iPhone 4 but the battery isn’t holding a charge anymore so it’s time to upgrade. My phone is still working ok, but I think Apple has stopped updating the software for it so many of my apps will soon stop working and I won’t be able to download new ones. Mine is an iPhone 5s, so it’s not much newer than his. We checked into new phones before our trip but DH didn’t want to bother with learning the new features on a new phone while we were traveling.

We also need to get my car inspected, pick up a prescription, stop at the bank to exchange our leftover euros, and pick up some groceries. All of that is contingent on how my back feels. I can walk without much pain, but standing up after sitting for awhile is very painful still.

Helene - that's cool that you can put in requests to the Florida library.

Jack's regular vet isn't too concerned about him not having the e-collar on. DH wanted to know if I blamed him. Me: "of course". LOL!

Ha Ha. I’d tell him they too. It’s a little reinforcement for when you tell him to do or don’t do something important. If you let him think this was okay, he’d probably dismiss other things you tell him as not important or optional.

I've been busy working and have been very tired, so I haven't looked at any website much when getting home. Today I am off work, so I have done some things around the house and am now just checking in. I am so tired of the holiday hoopla already. Let the new year get here so things can be normal.

As I race around getting the holiday newsletter out and foodstuffs purchased for Thanksgiving dinner, I know that next I need to deal with the CROM mail from the last two weeks and then start on my annual Christmas spreadsheet (everyone to gift/thank/etc). I definitely get a bah humbug spirit by the time the holidays actually arrive. Everyone has "just one little task" they'd like me to do. Ya know, when you get a whole pile of those, they aren't so little any more. LOL!

Then in December we're doing a cat show AND a flea market.

Time to eat right? Not so much.

    From the Washington Post:

Amazing but true: Americans eat substantially less ice cream per capita nowadays than they did in 1946.
