I have a primary care doctor, a urologist, a podiatrist, an ophthalmologist, a dermatologist and a dentist. I see the dermatologist yearly for a skin check to make sure I don’t have skin cancer. The podiatrist is as needed, the dentist 3 times a year and the others are once a year. That’s not too bad for a 71 year old.

My dad told me once that at a certain age all you do is sit at the doctor's office. Some days I can relate. Especially the ophthalmologist. My two specialists are from Hopkins. They are sent out to the northern outpost one day a week and totally overbooked. You always sit there for hours. But they are most excellent and the retina person has twice fixed a tear on the spot. No wonder she gets behind.

Here is DH's lab on TV. A story about testing public spaces for drug residue. He's not on the clip. The lab director is his boss. She's from Nepal.

I couldn’t watch the clip. It froze about 30 seconds into the report. I tried it a couple of times with same results. What drugs did they find?

    Weird! They found cocaine.

I told DH that would worry me about a baby but I confess I'm not worried about cocaine residue on my purse. I'm sure my purse has worse things on it.

That’s for sure about the purses.

DH sort of looked at me funny when I said there were almost certainly worse things on my purse. Then yesterday I went to the hairdresser and reminded once again how strange I think it is that their bathrooms have no purse hooks on the doors.

Today I get to go to the vet to get Indy. Yeah! Normally I would have gotten her yesterday and gone to the hairdresser today but I would have had to take a late afternoon appointment. This hairdresser is in Columbia and that's somewhere you don't want to go during Friday rush hour.

We got an early Christmas present today. While we were on our trip one of the places we visited was Ephesus, Turkey. We saw the ruins there, then we were taken to a place where they make beautiful hand-knotted rugs. They were absolutely gorgeous, though not inexpensive. We ended up purchasing 2, one for our den that is a combination of silk and wool, and another smaller one that is all silk. The all silk one was still being constructed in the size we wanted but we were able to choose the exact rug we wanted for our den. They promised both would arrive before Christmas so I wasn’t expecting them until next month at least. Imagine our surprise when the truck pulled up today! However, the all silk rug had been misrouted so it is slated to arrive tomorrow by FedEx. The delivery guys were great. They came in and moved the furniture out of the way, rolled up the cheap old rug we were using and moved it upstairs for us, laid out the new rug and replaced all of the furniture. Then the head guy offered to bring in a couple of runner size rugs to see how that would look in our entry hall, which is fairly wide and long. Conveniently, he just “happened” to have 2 in the perfect size for our entry. Anyway, long story short, after some haggling, we ended up buying one of them, too. So now we have (or will have) 3 gorgeous hand made, heirloom quality Turkish rugs for our heirs to fight over when we are gone, lol! I believe this takes care of Christmas gifts to each other for the rest of our lives.

    What a nice surprise Pam.
Maryanne, as we drove through MD, I thought of you. We prefer the Gladys Noonan Pkwy over I 95 through MD. We had a few slowdowns but nothing major. We take the express HOV lanes through DC and VA. It’s worth every cent of tolls to drive past all those cars sitting in rush hour traffic. We got to the hotel at 5. That’s one of our earlier arrivals.

The old thing about men being babies when they're sick. How true!

DH had crown prep on a tooth this week that was especially bad. He says it hurt to swallow. Won't take any of his stash of pain meds. Expects me to magically produce at dinnertime whatever he suddenly feels like eating. Won't hear of me going out to buy him some liquid protein drinks. I'm about ready to throw up my hands.

I'm working on two work emergencies (neither of my own making) instead of taking the weekend to do CROM stuff which is what I'd planned.

Grouchy much? Methinks I'm entitled. LOL!

Maryanne, you have my sympathies for dealing with a sick husband! A friend of a friend who is a nurse said she always at some point considers applying some pillow therapy whenever her husband get sick. When asked to explain what that is, she replied “You hold a pillow very firmly over his face until he stops thrashing around. After that he’s always much more agreeable!” I’ve never tried her method, but I’ve been tempted a few times.

I told DH last night that it’s a good thing the last rug is arriving via FedEx today because I don’t think we can afford to let their delivery guys back into our house!

I know I've been missing. I've worked every day so I've been wiped out. In addition, I don't have anything exciting to share. I am off next week for Thanksgiving break.

Pam--Your training accounts for your wonderful cakes.

    Maryanne--Congrats upon your weight loss.

Helene--Safe travels. I've always considered I95 in Georgia and Florida a race track. Despite the speed limit sign, people pass you if you are going 75 to 80mph.

I know this is to promote a product but it has to be the funniest commercial I have seen in ages:

DH and his medical friends are all terrified of anaesthesia (I don't ask too many questions). Don't know if they'd appreciate this but I thought it was funny!

I couldn’t get the whole story to copy, but the men singing were anesthesiologists who met in nursing school and sang as a way to relieve tension. Apparently they worked up this song as a celebration after they passed their exams. They are really good, IMO.

I arrived at my brother’s house in SC last night. The ride from VA took longer because we ran into rain from VA through a good portion of NC. We got to my brother’s house around 8 and he had two choices of dinner waiting. We had a choice of Mac and cheese and cornbread or pulled pork. We did the the Mac and cheese last night and will do pulled pork tonight. Yum either way.

I’ve mentioned that Noom asks that you weigh yourself daily. I had no way to do that while we were traveling. I used the same weight each day so it looked like I had a plateau. I weighed myself this morning on Jimmy’s scale and I was 4 pounds lighter than on my scale. I’ll take it. There are no special foods to eat. It’s all psychological and teaching you why you overeat and encouraging better nutrition. I followed the premises and read each days quizzes. So I guess it paid off. Accord to my brother’s scale, I’m down 22 pounds from last May.

Pam--That group of anesthesiologists often sing at medical conventions. There is a YouTube video that explains and gives the contact info for those interested. They do another video called "Breathe" which is good but not as good as the one you posted.

Helene--Congrats upon your weight loss! Enjoy your trip to Florisa and your stops and visits.

Maryanne--Love the red flag. I just have the same spirit animal.

Thanks. I’m going to my sister’s book group tonight. She told me what the book was in advance and I finished it last night. I went to the group last year and everyone was very welcoming. Other than that, I’m catching up on laundry and relaxing.

Jack had his recheck at the dentist this morning. She's happy with his mouth! Yeah!

Some man had a small dog there - no leash, no baby pouch, nada - it kept getting away from him. I think there was something wrong with it as at times it seemed to be going in circles and other times trying to walk into a wall or door. I wonder why he didn't have it contained. They'd never let someone have a cat loose like that.
