SIL has been a Type II diabetic for many years and on medication most of that time. She’s also an RN, so she has a good understanding of the medical and dietary issues. I think she’s had the nutritional counseling and she’s certainly intelligent enough to figure it out. She knows what she should eat but so far just hasn’t found an approach she can stick to. I never bring it up but she talks about it pretty often. I’m at the point that I just agree with whatever the diet du jour is and move on.

With a background as a RN, that’s surprising she hasn’t made her health a priority. Go figure.

The wacky holiday shipping woes are apparently already upon us. Even packages from normally reliable Chewy.com are being delayed all over the place (and those come from fairly nearby so it's not a weather thing).

Maryanne, some of my deliveries have been early. I had ordered something for my MIL for Christmas from Kohl’s and it was supposed to arrive on Friday. We were leaving Wednesday morning for my sister’s home for Thanksgiving but planned to be home Friday, so that was perfect timing. However, on Wednesday morning just before we were getting ready to leave, I received an email showing that the delivery was due Wednesday, but in another place it still indicated a Friday delivery. Not knowing which was correct we went anyway. And when we got home Thursday night, the package was sitting on the doorstep. I also got 2 amazon orders delivered on Monday that weren’t due until Tuesday. The amazon orders didn’t surprise me particularly since we have 2 or 3 fulfillment centers near us.

I got out yesterday and did some Christmas shopping. I think I am just about finished. I have 1 more Amazon delivery to come and I’m still waiting for gift ideas from a niece for her son. That will most likely be another Amazon order that I will have shipped directly to her, so it will be an easy gift. Now to get everything wrapped — my least favorite part of the holidays!

For my great niece her mom has requested hair bows. I started looking on Pinterest at tutorials for making them and decided to give it a try. A friend is going to come over one day next week and we will try to figure it out together. Neither of us is especially crafty, so this could go very badly, lol!

Yep, the wacky holiday deliveries have begun.

I was at the grocery store this morning and there were FIVE Fed Ex trucks circled in the parking lot. It looked like they were chit chatting when I was headed into the store and when I came out it looked like they were transferring packages around. I'd love to have known what that was about (cause I'm nosy about how people run their businesses).

My Chewy order arrived its usual 2 days for me. My QVC orders arrived in usual time as did the Amazon orders. That would be interesting to know why the "wagons were circled up."

We made it to Jacksonville after 8 hours driving. I was up early to finish packing and loading the truck. So I’m pretty tired. I’m surprised I got in 2800 steps today. Most of it was the packing n loading process. And I walked around a bit at our rest stops. I expected about 500 steps today so I was pretty pleased to see my total.

Trump's favorite makeup brand - and references to his illegal workers (which we know he must have given the industry he's in - I've long wondered why the press doesn't dig into that):

There’s a luminary festival in town tonight. We didn’t know about it last year. We went out to go to the stores and saw hundreds of white paper bags lining the street. Each had a candle inside. The line went on for about 2 miles. There were other activities but we couldn’t find a parking spot. Since we know about it this year, we’ll go earlier and hopefully find a spot. One of the churches has a living Nativity which I’d love to see. There are carolers in a few of the shopping centers.

We went to Luminary Night as planned. Many of the businesses have beautiful Christmas lights and other decorations. There was live music and refreshments at many of the shopping centers. We parked at one end, listened to a brass quartet and then started walking. We had planned to view a living nativity at one of the churches but we made the mistake of going there last. The line was too long and we still had a half hour walk back to the car. The decorations were beautiful and the temperatures were in the 60s. I started out wearing a light jacket and had to take it off halfway through the walk. I ended up with 6,700 steps which is about 3.5 miles. Since I started Noom in September, 1.5 miles was my highest total. I didn’t plan to walk that far but the only way back to the car was foot power. I treated myself to Tylenol and an ice pack on the knee when I got home. I amazed myself when I saw my total. I wouldn’t have thought I was capable of that distance. I guess that PT really paid off. The knee held up well until the last mile. I felt it more in my low back than in my knees or hips. The Lion’s Club has placed benches along the bike path. We sat on a number of the benches to take a short break. The knee didn’t start to hurt until about the last half mile.

Helene - that sounds lovely and you were able to accomplish it thanks to your own efforts over the past year. Good job!!

I really, really, really miss my Aleve! Daggone HBP anyway! We did a cat show set up yesterday. I was po'd because the show coordinator (read the folks making money off running the event) was over 1 1/2 hours LATE. We still got set up and out to dinner but all that time on concrete floors does a real job on my legs and feet. Tylenol barely makes a dent! But we're set up!!

I amused myself during the hour and a half by making by own assignments of where vendors should go. I knew I wouldn't get any grief from the organizers because, to the best of my knowledge, I'm the only one who's been spending time and money advertising their shows. Right at the moment, they are sort of in "anything you want Maryanne" mode. By the time the tables and chairs arrived with the coordinator, everyone had hauled in their inventory into their Maryanne-assigned space. LOL!!!! Of course, I should admit that most of us have done the show for decades and pretty ;much know our own spots anyway.

We had dinner at Applebees. Now I see them on a list of businesses that support the orange cheeto and I regret our choice!

? Was it a success? I didn’t know that about Applebee’s. We don’t have one nearby me so I rarely eat there. The only chains on the island where I winter are a Dairy Queen and seven Eleven. A McDonald’s tried to open here about 25 years ago and the residents fought hard to keep them out. They passed strict laws banning franchises. The existing two have been here for decades and were grandfathered in.

Luckily we had volunteers covering the show today. I won't get a feel for how successful it was until I get there tomorrow!

I haven't eaten at Applebee's for a couple of years; they kept changing the menu with increasingly bad service. Now, I have an additional reason.

Maryanne--Great job on the show. Sorry Tylenol doesn't work for you; it doesn't for me either.

Helene--You are doing some really great work on your health! Keep up the good work!

Remember "white coat syndrome" when it comes to blood pressure? I went to my primary this past Thursday and had a blood pressure reading of 115/50. I meditate before they take the reading but I also check frequently at home.

I’m not a fan of Applebee’s either, both for political reasons and just not liking their menu very much. There aren’t any near us, but I do see them in some of the areas where we travel.

Maryanne, I have HBP also but I’ve never been told to avoid Aleve or ibuprofen. I do avoid them, but it’s because I take Meloxicam which is a prescription NSAID and there is a warning label advising against taking any additional drugs in that class.

Jean, I think taking your BP frequently at home helps to neutralize that “white coat syndrome”. Plus, it can’t hurt to keep an eye on it. I can usually tell by how I feel when mine is elevated because I get headaches.

I am done with my Christmas shopping but I still need to wrap the gifts. I really don’t enjoy that part, but it must be done.

DH talked to his cardiologist about at home BP machines. She feels they aren’t very accurate and not worth using. That was an interesting take on them. He hasn’t used his machine since then. Last time I had my BP taken, I did some deep breathing while I was waiting for the assistance to come into the exam room. It worked and I had a good reading.

As far as wrapping, that’s why someone invented pretty gift bags.

Interesting. I suspect mine expects me to take my pressure at home much more frequently than I do.
