Hey Guys.... Just a wanted to check in, it's been awhile. (I've been spending and enjoying time on the MFP newsfeed to be completely truthful... 😆)
Just wanted you all to know, I'm down 71 pounds as of this morning (3.9 more pounds since last Monday).
I quite smoking 9 days ago. I started walking every morning around a course that has a big hill in it for 5 laps which amounts to 1 mile perfectly. ( No was was I going to start walking and still smoke, so it had to go ).
And I'm in the process of building a weight training room (with an elliptical for good measure).
I'm feeling great! And a whole lot poorer... 😂😥😪😋😎8 -
Hooray for Poobah! So tell us, which has been harder, quitting smoking or losing 71 pounds?3
-
Losing weight is hard....being overweight is hard....choose your hard!2
-
Well done Poobah!! Saving extra money on those smokes will contribute to buying your weight training equipment. That's a great benefit.2

Hi all!
I've been MIA for a while, but am still around! Still tracking, though I have gained back some weight. Every trip I make home to see family, I come back about 8 lbs heavier (clearly I need to work on this), but once I get back, back to tracking. Sigh. Hoping that reengaging will give me that extra boost I need!5 -
Drama on my usual, but muddy, wet walk yesterday.....I came face to face with a beautiful doe; the dog nearly had a heart attack, but she came to heal immediately. ( Best thing about working cockers - fab recall!)
The doe was not fazed; we spent what seemed like an eternity looking at one another..... me in shock! Then around a few more muddy squelches & puddles, the dog came across two expiring baby birds, perhaps fallen or blown out of their nest. I hoped against hope that their mum or dad was nearby & going to come to their rescue! The dog was, again, very good; came to heel straight away..... Left feeling nature in all it’s drama; breathtaking beauty and heartfelt sadness.
So not a usual walk at all! And with all the stops, only got just under 5,000 steps in and muddy boots to boot!
Wonder, if anything, what today brings? A bit of sun please and less drama!
Have a good ‘un whatever you are doing 🙂4 -

I had my first physical today in a long time. It went really well!
My blood pressure is great! The last time I had it checked was a few years ago when I was in the ER for some pretty extensive burns. It obviously was pretty high that day (170), since I was in quite a bit of pain. But even during those follow-up appointments, it still was higher than it used to be (140). It was right after that that I started losing weight. Today, my blood pressure was 111/76.
Labs won't come back for a bit yet, but I'm interested to see what they are. Haven't had them done for a while, so I'm glad to get a snapshot of my cholesterol levels. I've always had great HDL, so fingers crossed that is still good.
Most important to me: Today I had a provider who did not mention my weight, but instead spent twenty minutes discussing my actual health and lifestyle. What I cooked and ate, my physical activities, you name it. This was such a relief, as for many years, my weight was one of the reasons I avoided going to the doctor. My long-time provider was been very supportive, focused on my general health. Once when she was unavailable, I saw a different provider. I went in for something random (a sinus infection or something), and instead she spent the entire visit telling me that I had to lose weight (but of course, not HOW to lose weight). She even deleted the automatic computer note that said "overweight" and changed it to "weight problem". Because, as she told my 20-year old self, it was "a problem". Honestly ever since then, I have been so nervous with any new provider. Since I moved a few years ago, I had to leave my beloved nurse practitioner behind, and my fear and anxiety has kept me from finding a new provider. It was such a relief to see someone who saw me and my health wholly, and my weight as one piece of my health, not the whole picture. I have officially found my new PCP!
The only not fun news is that I now have to get my first mammogram. No concerns, but my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early 40's, which means I get to start my mammograms in my 30's. Joy.

Went to his mom's house and picked up the cats, who are all very happy to be home, and then made lunch and drove downtown to pick the prescription up for Girlfriend. (roll eyes) I do not know what is going on or why it couldn't be sent to the pharmacy that is five minutes from the house instead of a thirty-five minute drive, but okay, whatever. She has her meds. Picked up Boyfriend's meds at the local pharmacy, came home, and laid down because I felt overstimulated. Got up and made dinner. Am now deciding what I want to do after dinner; Boyfriend is teaching, and I don't like to make a ton of noise and banging in the house when he's working. I may play a video game.3

I got my first set of labs back today - I'm healthy! Waiting on lipids, but A1C is looking great.
I took a lunch walk down to the grocery store and swung by our local coffee shop on the way back to pick up some fresh beans (okay, and a bagel and peach iced tea). The weather has been sunny and perfect, and it was so nice to be outside. I'll get a few more hours of work done today, then work on supper. I might spend a few hours working in the garden this evening too.

Sounds like you are having a great day and great news on your good health!0

When the expiration date on the egg whites is a week ago, you shouldn't risk it. This is the lesson for today which resulted in a ziploc bag in the trash full of a large egg white scramble that was rubbery and had an off-putting flavor. I didn't have a good backup plan so I ended up eating yogurt again to replace the protein I didn't get.
Today will end in a full deficit though, tomorrow should be the same, then 2 days of maintenance. Next week, if all goes well, should be a full week of loss. Even with going back and forth some this week I am experiencing a water drop which always helps if you are me and prone to carry large amounts. It is resulting in that initial comfort that comes from dropping some bloat.6 -
Procrastinating on work all day because I'm anxious about it, which makes me more anxious about it. Ugh. Will have to get some done after supper.
Got my other labs back today. Everything is great, but LDL (and therefore total cholesterol) is high. Cholesterol ratio is actually okay though, due to decent HDL. Will chat with my provider more about this coming up. Hopefully some additional exercise can drop the LDL some more, because I'm not really sure what else I could do with diet
I got a few things planted in the garden today (broccoli, salsify, cantaloupe) and the rest of my seedlings (mostly peppers) moved to the deck to harden off.
Next up: getting the tomatoes in the ground and clearing space for the peppers. Oh, and figuring out where the heck to plant my green beans. I kind of ran out of space.

Well if you want a sure-fired system of being in a steep calorie deficit just ask for my dog after he has eaten a bunch of grass the day before, some of which likely had weed killer/fertilizer on it.
He is sick, both ways. I beg and plead with that dog not to eat grass but every once in awhile he has a day that he just goes crazy for it. We went for his walk yesterday and he just kept sampling it from various neighbor's lawns. I kept stopping him but the only solution is to keep him on the road which doesn't allow for him to do his various businesses. He is trained to walk beside me, which he will do 70 percent of the time if I issue the command but I try to give him some freedom because allowing him to sniff and roam some helps cut down his boredom. All the interactive toys out there will not keep a single smart dog living with two humans from getting bored. We can't play with him nonstop and we will absolutely not get another dog so walking 3 to 4 miles a day makes a big dent.
Luckily this does not happen very often. Unfortunately that doesn't make it any better when it does happen.
The sad fact of the situation is that we make it work but he is not a good fit for us but I am not sure there is a good home for him. Maybe that means we are a good fit but it honestly sucks a lot of the time that he is such high maintenance. If he actually cared what we thought and made an effort to please us without expecting payment it would suck less but it has been over 2 years and he has not bonded with either one of us.8 -
Sorry to read this about your dog....Willow was the puppy from Hell but she has become a great adult dog....she still has her “ moments “ but they happen less often....at 2 years old she weighs about 85 pounds, she is smart and very spoiled....overweight , too...she loves the entire family but especially my daughter who is her main care taker....she does not like other people or other dogs....she ate a lot of grass last week, too and was sick a couple of days....maybe it’s a doggie flu!....I hope your dog feels better soon....1

Tummy upset (or something eaten) sometime leads to grass eating to coat it and help it pass through. Do you have trail areas/off road areas near to where you're at? Walking Skylar on "city property" is a pain in the *kitten* because she will start / stop sniff / pull on the leash to get to somewhere / get dragged by me to get going .... or... just heel but then there is hardly any excitement or benefit for her.
But I regularly take her to a couple of forested areas / trails nearby and she goes bonkers chasing interactive toys. The only issue being that I'm occasionally late in saving said interactive toys from the interaction. Which has made me quite sad on a couple of occasions.
Our current major play friends are the beaver we've been stalking for two years now, and his new girlfriend who just moved in! Err... Skylar mostly sleeps... and apparently maintains a database of trees where squirrels have previously been spotted that have to be revisited on the off chance the squirrel is half asleep...2 -
And bunnies.....one bunny can cause a major accident for whoever is unlucky enough to be holding Willows leash!1

Skylar actually ended up causing me skinned knees and a shoulder injury that lasted a few months when she first arrived. She was a jail-house rescue at about 2-3 years old because of being too much of a handful for two or three previous owners who kept giving her back to the shelter... little 55-60lb bullet can accelerate and if there is no "elasticity" at the end... it gets quite jarring! Husky Border Collie mix.3 -
Husky Pittbull here called Pitsky!....she is so strong....has pulled me down more than once....I will have to share how Willow actually started me on MFP !2

Went to the store today, and have been precooking. So I have pork chunks in a Thai peanut sauce in the freezer, chopped bacon for a future quichecake, thinly sliced sirloin for Beef Stroganoff, cooked up hamburger with seasonings for taco meat (mild taco meat, this time; I make both hot and mild meat) and made baked ravioli for dinner for us girls; Boyfriend opted for a chicken cheese bacon barbecue sandwich. I blame the fact that he was sitting there smelling the bacon as it cooked!
I have a quichecake to make (Sausage, spinach, mushrooms) and a pork loin to slice, but I am sitting down for a bit because I would like to not overshoot my standing budget. My standing budget is bigger than it was, but I do still have one, and my feet were quite sore when I got back from the store today.3 -
Talked to my PCP today about my cholesterol. Neither of us are particularly happy with it. My LDL is high enough to be put on medication. She referred me to a cardiologist to gt a full risk assessment. That appointment is in just a few weeks. In the meantime, I'll try to tweak my diet a bit more and up my cardio intensity a bit. I switched my nutrient view to see saturated fat more easily, and also manually lowered my target.
I'm just not sure how much more I can adjust my diet. I think I usually eat pretty well...I stick with olive oil for cooking, don't eat red meat very frequently (maaaybe once a week), eat plenty of fish, eat whole grains and legumes frequently, lots of greens and veggies. I could add in more fruit I suppose. I'll keep an eye on my diary and see what my sat fat intake is doing, and where I can cut it further back.
I definitely have been slacking on exercise lately. I'll make a more concerted effort to crank up that intensity. I just got a free jump rope from a neighbor, and am kind of excited to try that out. Hopefully my weight continues to drop, the LDL might drop too. I'd rather not have to be on medication for it, but I also want to get it lowered as quickly as possible. I'll know more in a few weeks.4 -

Lost all my weight logging on MFP. With the reduced export options and two year retention limit on non-premium accounts I since moved to logging on Cronometer (free). Their databases are definitely less extensive. But they are also more curated and consequently less prone to random errors. Which may give you better quality saturated fat and cholesterol from food information3 -
Ah, yesterday was a great day.
I went for a morning walk along the river trails, which ended up being almost 4 miles. I saw a fox, oh so many cicadas, three deer, a turtle, and watched an osprey dive and catch a fish. It always amazes me that I live less than 2 miles from the DC border.
I attempted jump roping in the afternoon, which was short, intense, and fun. After supper, husband and I went for what was going to be a really short bike ride, but ended up being a nice 14 mile to the nearby lake and back. This is usually an easy ride for me, but I was exhausted by the time we got back (thanks jump roping), and literally stumbled my way off the bike and up to bed. It felt great. I love the feeling of going to bed totally physically spent!

@eliezalot - your PCP should have let you know that dropping weight can throw those cholesterol numbers into whack. This is because you are burning fat stored in your body so, your blood cholesterol is behaving as if you had a stick of butter for dinner. Not to panic! It's normal, a good thing, but medication won't fix it. When your weight stabilizes your numbers will become meaningful. Here's a link to the easy to read layperson article:

And then the scientific one if you have the patience to slog through it:

I am TIRED.
- Mowed my yard.
- Mowed a neighbor's yard.
- Engaged in what should have been a small shed reorganization that turned into a THING. I purchased a used shed last year and decided against moving a cabinet thinking it would not be a big deal to live with it. Turns out my first instinct was right and I really hated where it was placed. Listening to my own advice about dealing with small stressors that can be easily fixed I decided to deal with it before it gets any hotter. Sometimes my advice backfires because the person who hung that cabinet stripped one of the screws in the process. 3 inch screw. This is why NO ONE should still be using a phillips head screw longer than about an inch anymore!
- Prepped watermelon/feta/pickled onion salad for 130 people
- Got ambitious and pickled 6 pounds of watermelon rind because I like to offer people a taste of something they have probably never tried before and I AM NOT SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW WHEN TO STOP.

That sounds exhausting. My feet hurt just thinking about it. But 100% here for the pickled watermelon rinds...they are so good!3
