We've been having a great time at the lake so far. I've been slightly over maintenance calories each day, but I've also been more active than usual, so I'm not too worried. My brother-in-law's family is coming over today, which means I'll get to spend the entire day chasing around my favorite (and only!) niece, who is three. She is an absolute delight and full of limitless energy. Once the rain blows over, we'll take her out in the lake to splash around. Should be a good amount of movement and exercise today!4

According to the thermometer above my desk it is 83 degrees in the house with 52% humidity. Ah, that would be why I feel like a miserable sweaty mess and don't wanna anything.
We had burritos for lunch and we are probably going to have burritos (with different fillings) for dinner unless I decide I want to go to The Local Taqueria and get something. I have a six ounce bag of pork al pastor thawing, and a bag of mild taco meat for me. I'll throw chopped jalapenos in it if someone besides me wants beef, cause we're out of the hot taco meat. Time to make more taco meat.
I do large batches of it when I precook, and freeze it in about 6 ounce bags. That's enough for 2-3 burritos, so it doesn't linger in the fridge and go bad, and a small bag like that thaws quickly. Because they grew up in California and I grew up in Indiana, I don't have their tolerance for hot food. So I eat the "mild taco meat" and they eat the "hot taco meat".6 -
Not having an Alexandra handy I am enriching Galen and consuming President's Choice Red Thai Chicken Curry... two of them!... but one of the rice portions (130g cooked) went to "skylar's bowl" for later consumption. So altogether about 570 Cal and it's in the almost edible category!
House temperature increasing rapidly!!!!5 -
Air inside 73 degrees and outside 90+ degrees and 80% humidity!…..summer in Florida!4

Yesterday might have been the actual perfect summer day. Husband and I spent an hour or so snorkeling in the lake in the morning, and he caught a good size snapping turtle! After breakfast, we went to his brother's house for lunch, and also got to see his sister. We baked molasses cookies with my niece, then took her fishing down the road again. (My husband taught her the other day for the first time, and she absolutely loved it). Then we went to dinner at my BIL's in-law's house. They are lovely people, and we love getting to see them. Didn't get home until midnight, and now I have to work today, but so so worth it!4

Or Indiana. That sounds like August/first two weeks of September here. It's only in the high seventies here but the humidity is 60% so we're running the a/c just to help dehumidify the house.

And rain all weekend. Still hoping I can maybe get out for my long walk Sunday, but we will have to see. But it is for sure feeling a bit sticky in the apartment today!2 -

My hygrometer says 61% in the house. No wonder it's a bit sticky!

We just got back home (mid-atlantic) last night. Woke up today to 91 degrees at 10 am, with 65% humidity. High of 98 tomorrow. Pretty sure I won't be leaving the house! My thick Minnesotan blood just cannot handle it.4 -
From now on I am scheduling a vacation during vacation season because you know what happens... you end up covering for everyone else while they are having fun. Not to mention I am still behind on everything I need to do for work and home. I am almost done with my spring checklist though... and yes I know it is summer... the heat is why I do these things in the SPRING.6

Spring?!?!?! Checks Canada Day / July 4 calendar and fast approaching fall back time zone dates... scratches head2 -

The good news is that I don't have a summer checklist so even though I am running far behind when it is done I just maintain what is there until cooler weather. The other good, well mostly good news, is that my large raised bed garden EXPLODED this year and my plans to put a temporary fence around it have been cancelled due to cucumber vines stretching far into the yard. I did win the first tomato prize on my block which includes bragging rights and making people drool over being the first to have a proper BLT. Last year I was the pitied one because my soil mixture was off (first year with the raised bed) and my garden barely produced anything. I guess I got it right this year - heh.5 -
You gardening people!
That's why they've invented JARS <-- to put unruly cucumbers in after they've landed in a pickle!!!!!3 -

I have been getting up early, staying up late, and napping for about four hours in the middle of the afternoon. That's the only way I'm getting any housework done, doing it when it's cool.

I am born and raised in the south but I might have thick Minnesotan blood too because this heat really sucks the wind from my sails too.
Earlier today I was taking the dog on his quarter mile "business" route and we hit one of those weird pockets of weather that can either be much warmer or cooler than the surrounding space. This one was HOT. Like I am the ant under the magnifying glass hot. It was so intense I was worried and wishing I had put on sunscreen because I honestly thought I was going to end up burnt over it. I have a fair complexion so I do have to worry more but usually not if I am out for only 5 minutes.5 -
I have not forgotten about our LL zoom meeting. Originally I was planning on a weekend but somehow my weekends evaporate even faster than my weekdays lately or when one has a moment of peace I need the actual downtime. Now I am starting to lean towards a Mon or Tues evening if that will work for enough people.4

@#$&$ **kitten** screening!
Apparently Vancouver no longer has imaging screening as optional. Nope, everyone gets whatever-rayed with secondary pat down if needed.
Because of an unrelated issue (powetool in carry-on which semi legitimately had to be checked) I went through screening twice through both entrances.
Both alarming and requiring secondary pat downs because.... drum roll (roll being important here): my nice mostly empty right hand bottom of tummy skin roll and nicely folding fat.... alarmed / cautioned on both machines! Nice and yellow!
At least I now fit nicely in my sardine spot!4 -
Seriously yyc? Starbucks gate c was open these past 16 months and is NOW closed for construction?
All four in terminal Tim Horton's are closed?
Enjoying my $8.99 sneider snackables available at your grocery store for 1.99 to 2.99 and 6.99 Coke Zero plus regular snickers bar combo. Not sure it's working on my not being hangry!!!
Oh, well there's nicely frozen stuff at dad's, just a couple of hours and a bit away.... and I might still have a good 1000 Cal available 👍😇2 -
Don't they know who you are?!!!! You are our PAV8888 and they better be treating you right.2

Well they sure wanted to place their paws all over me and examine my "rolls" carefully! I actually flopped the belly one for him when the guy said what's this and pointed!!! To his defence, it did look like a melted droopy muffin top destined for the seconds rack was trying to escape from inside my shirt! I knew there was a reason why I've never looked into skin fold measurements! 🤣😹3 -
Huh. Out of the blue, there's a knock on my door, and it's Eldest Son. (26 years old) He has just got a job in his field (welding) in a small satellite town of our major city. He currently lives two counties to the north; the town he will be working in is one county south. If he stays with me during the work week, his commute is 45 minutes; if he continues living with my mother, it's an hour and a half. Soooo yeah. He'll probably be living here part-time by next Sunday, since he starts work Monday.
I have my sewing room area to pack up, and several other things, so that he'll have room for his desk. I'd go up and do it now, but Boyfriend lay down in that room, and so I can't do anything in there.5 -
My mom is the best.
We're getting ready to leave on vacation next week - spending a week with my parents on a houseboat up in northern MN. Now. My mom LOVES to cook. Good, flavorful, buttery, meaty, delicious foods. Since I told her about my cholesterol and how I need to watch my saturated fats, she has been worried a bit about cooking on the trip. They are meat 3 meals a day type people, so my new "red meat about twice a month" diet is quite a departure. I kept telling her as long as there are fruits and veggies, I'll find food. But mom loves to feed people so...
She has literally been studying foods and labels at the grocery store to figure out how to adapt all of her usual cooking so I can eat it. She tried a vegetarian "sausage" patty (not impressed lol). She and my dad tested out black bean burgers ("they were ok"). Today, she texted me a photo of a zero saturated fat breakfast sandwich she came up with - toasted english muffin, egg whites, and a vegan sausage patty with some ketchup and hot sauce. She adapted her curry chicken (using non-fat yogurt). She even came up with dessert - angel food cake with strawberries and no-fat whipped cream/topping.
She has every meal, topping, and snack figured out so that they are friendly to my low saturated fat diet. (Though we are having both ribs and steak on the trip lol...those will be my two servings for the month.)
Anyway, my mom is awesome. Talk about warm fuzzies. Moms are just the best.6 -

Congats to him on the new job! But oof what a surprise. I'm sure it will be lovely to have him around, but what a disruption to your usual routine. I hope that works out for you all with as minimal stress as possible!1 -
@eliezalot I have a mom like that too ❤️ We're very lucky!4

Ugh... this weekend was horrible for the diet. I gave myself permission Sunday to enjoy myself and eat at maintenance since I was going to a friends house for a cookout and she was making sure I could have everything even with my medical issues. So I didn't want to restrict. I did fine on Sunday, didn't binge or anything, even had half my plate full of grilled veggies to go with a small serving of potato salad and a single sausage.
But it is like giving myself that permission for one day just threw the doors open wide and I went wild. Monday I was under, but I ate just about every exercise calorie available to me. Yesterday (Tuesday)... well I didn't even log but it included a slice of Costco pizza for lunch and a dinner of a friend chicken sandwich, cheese fries, and a chocolate shake.
Deep breaths. Okay. We can get over this and get back on track.
I do think I am going to change my red meat 1x a month rule to up to 2x a month so that I don't get such horrible cravings for it. Been getting grass fed lean beef from a local farmer when I do eat it, so at least there is that. Also lowering my daily saturated fat limit and will use that as a goal more then restricting specific items. This will all start next week (since I already have my meal plan for this week and can't afford to go get all new groceries lol).
Still working hard in the back bedroom with cleaning (thus the cleaning logs for exercise). That room became a storage unit for boxes and just so much stuff. So I am clearing it out, boxing up what I am keeping (since I am most likely moving next spring), throwing away a bunch of junk, and donating even more stuff I simply do not need/want. When I moved here it was after my mom passed away and I wasn't able to let go of a lot of stuff. Then my dad died a few years ago and I brought some of his stuff back here as well. Now I am finally ready to let go. Not of everything of course (my dad had some cool stuff that fits my decor lol), but of a lot of it. I have my memories... I don't need all the stuff.4 -
@Athijade Deep breaths. You can get over this and back on track! THis is going to be a tough week though. Those parent treasures. I have them too. A little less every year. Every little thing that I manage to let go is a challenge but it feels like so much weight off my shoulders once the decision is made. And yes - it is all still here in my mind to recall with love whenever I want. I'm not forgetting any of it anytime soon - and when I do? I guess that is okay too because you can't pine for what you can't remember.
I really liked reading "I have my memories...I don't need all the stuff" - I'm going to hold onto that thought when I need it.4 -

This is what I have been doing as well. I am a very numbers/data driven person. I know I'm technically eating healthier for me if I have red meat 1-2 a month, and lots of fruits and veggies every day. But I like being able to see the actual numbers and to learn from them. As long as it fits, I can have it. And there are plenty of days I am under my goal, which means the occasional day over is still okay and balances out.4 -
Well it has been some time since I have been on. I took a break, fell off the wagon, just didn't focus on anything but me having a good time. I have paid that price in lbs. Not a ton per se. But yes the scale has gone up.
I lost my job in March. It was a tough pill to swallow but I took it in stride. I had plenty of money in saving and I wanted to go into private practice anyway. So I took three months to get my private practice up and running. I was cognizant of what I was eating but in no way measuring everything out. I then went on a two week vacation. Needless to say I ate all the good food.
My private practice is up and running. It is slow going getting patients in and scheduled and paid for so I am not making much money. I have also started to notice that my jeans are just a little snug. It's time to get my behind back into gear. There is no reason that I am not doing what I need to do except that I just didn't feel like it. So here is to starting again.
Lowest weight was 187 March 1.
Today weight 209.
That's 22lbs I have gained in 4 months. 5.5 lbs a month. When broke down like that I can see that while it isn't a huge gain it is a gain but absolutely fixable. I know that some of it is water weight but not all or even most lol. Here is to start tracking. That is the most important part. I need to input everything I eat accurately. Not guesses, but actual weighing of food.7 -
Very happy to welcome you back…I have missed your posts….I know you can do this because you have before!…I have been struggling a lot but really want to get back on track…we can do this!3
