This was so beautiful to read, Alexandra. "Tranquilly." Wow. I strive for that ... but it is so very hard. So much of me isn't tranquil by nature and feels compelled to "mother" though those days are long gone which is so very anti-tranquil.
Good on you, Mom. You deserve many kudos.

Lots going on and I am playing “ catch up “
Alex the relationship you have with your son is lovely….glad you enjoy your time with him….I have two kids 9 years apart and sadly they do not really get along….both of them are great but I stopped trying to make them like each other!…one is a Democrat and the other Republican…..need I say more?….both are honest hard working adults and I love both of their spouses….our daughter, the youngest, has never left home and lived at home going to college….both of our kids have college degrees and we are very proud of them….Amanda’s husband and both grands live with us….our son is about 90 minutes away….both are good company but not with each other!…oil and water!…..
Callsitlikeiseeit, if your daughter is happy and they love each other….what can I say?…do they come to you with money problems and disagreements?…is there any abuse?….sometimes it’s better to observe situations and see how they play out!
Ladybug welcome to our group….jump in anywhere….comments and advice are always welcome!
Laurie we seem to still be floundering in this heat….maybe all the pounds will drop off when it is cooler outside lol

no, not yet they havent lol
but they are both only making $8 an hour currently and no benefits. life is tough at that. he could apprentice under my husband (or another journeyman, even. or another TRADE, but we dont know those rates or have those union contacts) and make twice that as a first year apprentice. plus benefits. And it only goes up every year. in 4 years he could be clearing $80K if he wanted to. truly, i stay out of it but when we watch him try thing after thing to try and make money and they all fail (for whatever reasons, like i said, i dont get involved so i dont really ask many questions about WHY hes not doing *whatever* any more). hes a good kid. he has potential. I think we'd like to see him put it toward something a bit more... i dont even know what the word is im looking for. There's a lot of GOOD jobs out there where you can make damned good money and can move up but you might have to get your hands dirty at first.2 -
Got the mini-mural of the Boy up on Saturday. He was amused to see it - and very quickly put on the same face - a roar - one of his favourite expressions.

Not looking forward to the next 10 days or so; we're having all our windows and doors replaced. Aaargh. Just as we move from the wettest summer in recent memory into what promises to be a damp and rainy autumn. My house is Georgian ( built 1760) so we were legally obliged to use specialist stonemasons to make exact replicas of the crumbling stone sills, and specialist window makers to make identical sash windows. It's a huge job (scaffolding went up yesterday) and the weather is a further complication. We commissioned the contractors last October and were promised a summer installation but due to various factors we were pushed back 10 weeks. If it starts bucketing down with rain some comfort eating may be on the horizon...3

i dont think ive mentioned it on this thread but pretty sure i have elsewhere on this board, but for the past week been dealing with mystery pain in my abdomen (left side) with no other symptoms at all. Like im being stabbed. Had a CT scan done monday, finally got a call back from the doc last night...
We *may* have an answer. Some sort of weirdly named cystitis something or other which will be (well, IS) a chronic condition and is likely the cause of (seems to be, despite no other symptoms) a bladder infection. Also the cause of why I always say that I have the bladder of a 2 year old (I go to the bathroom more than any person I know - at least now I know theres an actual reason why LOL) antibiotics given for that (wont help the bladder of a 2 year old issue- thats here to stay). *If* those do not help the pain issue, I'll have to be referred to some sort of specialist.
Also Diverticulosis but NOT Diverticulitis (at least not at this moment in time). Which is common but uncommon at my age. Or so I am told and read. If you dont know what that is (I did not), the easiest way to explain it, is like a small hernia in your colon, but it doesnt go away. not painful in and of itself unless it turns into the 'itis' form, and then it needs antibiotics.
There are also several cysts that no one seems concerned about that were mentioned in the CT report, but one kind in particular I want to know WHERE they are (report did not mention or I did not understand), as 'normal' or not they CAN lead to a higher chance for uterine cancer if located in the fallopian tubes or uterus. So, again, depending on location... it can matter. I'd rather have a major surgery and yank all those parts out than you know, cancer 5 years down the road. Go ahead and yank it all out now (Im not using them, after all, and havent had a cycle since june? july? long enough for me not to know exactly when), at the end of the year when we are close to meeting our deductible for the year. Save us a few (thousand) bucks. LOL I see my regular doc in 2 weeks for a previously scheduled follow up and will add that to my list of things to talk to him about. My only request is that it is done after Halloween. Cause thats my day. LOL
wonder if we could convince the insurance company into a tummy tuck along with a hysterectomy? a girl can hope LOL
So, here's hoping the antibiotics work and I feel better in a day or so. I actually feel better this morning than I have in a week and a half, so theres that. Hoping its a sign of the antibiotics kicking in already. I generally respond pretty quick to them.

that mural is AMAZING by the way!2 -

IC? Interstitial Cystitis?
If so... that is the condition I deal with.
So if that is it, feel free to ask me any questions.2 -

Today I went and had my yearly labs done, so we'll see how that comes out. Also got the call back that my pap smear was fine, so that's good, and a letter about my mammogram that says I have dense breasts and that is hard to read so come back in six months and we'll try it again. OTOH, if they're dense that means (according to the letter) they have a lot of glandular tissue and not much fat. And that explains why I have lost everywhere BUT there. Nice to have an explanation for things.
Of course, since those were fasting labs, I had a migraine, because I can't skip a meal (or stay up too late or go to bed too early or get up too late or too early, or, or, or... without a migraine. This is another reason, besides autistic comfort, that my life is regimented and scheduled. And I can't take acute medications for the attacks (triptans) because I have peripheral vascular disease. (Raynaud's phenomenon). So I just get to go to bed and wait them out in a dark quiet room.5 -

right now I'm told its fairly mild, though im also told to expect that to change over time. more of an inconvenience than anything at this moment in time. i was reading on a message board for it yesterday and if thats what i have to look forward to, that will be ... fun3 -

@conniewilkins56 @callsitlikeiseeit, but camping's an adventure! Can't beat the feel of damp sleeping bags, sharp stones digging into your hipbones through your bed roll, the 2am trek across soggy grass for a pee, the eye-watering tang of fox poo, the deep ache of frozen 56-year-old bones! You don't get any of that in a Marriott...3 -

my brother hiked the entire thing. right before hubby and I got married. He was the one OFFICIATING OUR WEDDING. He wasnt slated to return until just a few days before the ceremony?
I cant tell you how anxious I was that he would be delayed for any number of reasons. (weather, trail disruptions, injury, illness, whatever)
He got back a month before the wedding. He had... not been truthful about the schedule. But he didnt TELL me he was back until 2 days before the wedding. He just wanted me to freak out.
That's my little brother, y'all.
He then left a week later to climb kilamanjaro (i think thats the one, i cant keep them all straight- hes always climbing something). yes, Everest is on his bucket list.
Obviously, he has no problem with camping. the weirdo.

Today we went out to our new local diner for lunch, and will be going back. Yummy good food, and I can see why they've been in business for 50 years. And it was enough to split the pork tenderloin sandwich for lunch and dinner, and take the fries home for Girlfriend's supper. (Surprise cheesy fries made her day.)
Then we went and sat on the couch that we had been looking at on line and decided that yes this is the one we want to buy. And then we came home and I had a nap because it was rather more Going Out than I had done lately, and I was feeling a little overstimulated. (autism)
A good day, though. I like occasionally taking my meal restrictions out and confirming that I can handle it.5 -
my day....
heres my day (copied from my MFP wall )
I can write semi professionally when I have to. This is an email that I sent to one of the reporters that bestie knows at our local paper. I was out (taking pictures for you *kitten*) when I got a call from the school... the email tells the rest. Sorry for the lack of humor, guys, but SOMETIMES I have to put on my 'I'm an actual grown up' pants LOL
Hello,
You may find this as interesting and perplexing as myself and my best friend did. Between the two of us, we have three students at (school) High. All three are fully vaccinated, as are we. Today, on the third day of school, I received a call from the school nurse saying that my son had been in direct contact with someone with covid and I needed to come pick him up. I was in the middle of something, the nurse sounded a bit harried (which is to be expected) and I did not even think about this until I was on my way to the school. I had called my friend to see if she had also received the call. No, but she says... "Your son is fully vaccinated. Why are you having to pick him up? That's not what the State or CDC guidelines say." I had no answer. Hung up with her, called the school. "My son has been fully vaccinated. I don't remember ever being asked for this information. Would you like me to bring the card or a copy of it so he can stay in school?". After being out on hold for a brief moment, I was told that no, that the 'vaccines apparently were 'useless' and that it was a 10 day quarantine OR we could do a PCR test on September 12 and if negative, bring the results to the school and he could come back'.
I asked again at the school, why a fully vaccinated child had to leave, who was showing no symptoms, who wore a mask all day, and where the child who tested positive ALSO wore a mask all day. I just got shrugged shoulders in response.
My questions are:
When did this school policy change and why were parents not notified?
Why does school policy seem to override State or CDC Guidelines (again, without notification to parents). Is this just (school) or County-wide? An actual policy or knee jerk reaction?
Why does the school get to determine that a vaccine is or is not effective (and science has proven that having the vaccine lessens the chance of getting covid as well as decreases the intensity of it for the majority of people if you DO get it, even with the Delta variant). A school employee telling a parent they don't even KNOW, that a CDC approved vaccine is 'useless' is gross negligence as far as I am concerned, regardless of what that employee's personal feelings are on the matter.
and finally...
If TEACHERS or other staff are directly exposed, are THEY subject to a 10 day quarantine as well? If not... WHY? Because up until this point, the policy was that if they had been fully vaccinated and were showing no symptoms, that even if they had been exposed, they were still allowed (and I believe, expected) to work. If they are going to quarantine 40 students for being exposed to one positive student, but not a teacher who was ALSO exposed, what is the point of allowing the teacher to stay (or bus driver, or cafeteria worker, or janitor, etc) to, in theory, expose even more people? Where is the logic in that?
So. That is how my afternoon is going. Hope yours is going better LOL
I'm sure eventually my mind would have stumbled on all of these things but right when I got the call I was like 'hurry up and do what I'm doing (Yes I was taking pics but I was also doing other stuff out there LOL) and hurry up AND remember the dates the nurse gave me cause when I asked if she was sending home a letter with these dates she said NO thats why im calling, and i didnt exactly have paper and pen with me out in a BARN. so when i pulled out of my driveway and called bestie and she said that i was like 'oh damn. youre right! why didnt i think of that!' APPARENTLY it doesnt even matter and i would honestly be shocked (in the area that we live in) if even a half of these kids are vaccinated that qualify for it. So this might be an ongoing thing. and this is exactly (one of the reasons) WHY both of us opted to get the vaccines for our kids. so all of these other people can NOT and thats fine and they can be sent home every other week for 10 days, and as long as our kids remain healthy and show no signs of having it, they can keep carrying their happy little *kitten* to school.2 -
Our grandaughter is fully vaccinated and she got a bad upper respiratory infection two weeks ago ( she has asthma ) doctor said she needed a COVID test before she returned to school….I don’t get it either….my daughter teaches and she is vaccinated and wears a mask….she is the only teacher that regularly makes the kids wash their hands and sanitize their desks….she showers the minute she gets home….there are no guidelines…..2

i have always had the rule of 'straight to shower after school' for my kids because kids and schools are disgusting germ factories and i *might just have OCD issues to begin with*
my husband said covid was the worst thing that ever happened ONLY because it literally validated 90% of most of my OCD *kitten* (that isnt food related)2 -
Went for my first "date" with a wonderful man last night. Oh...how the terror sets in - all the normal terror when you are 58 and the ups and downs on the relationship front puts your weight loss graph to shame +
now there is the how in the heck am I going to hide all this crazy *kitten* skin terror? LOL at crazy "*kitten*" - that part isn't too bad (probably only because I can't see it) but the rest - everywhere! - just flops around my heart rate went up just writing this.
With any luck I behaved like a complete fool last night and I'll never hear from him again.6 -
Well, I'm a ball of anxiety. So there's a benign tumor (actually two of them) in my thyroid gland. Or, in the half of the gland that's left after the left side grew a tumor and had to be removed 20 years ago. And it has grown a full centimeter over the last year. So it obviously isn't behaving itself quietly and needs to come out. I second this. I have to slow down and chew my food very well and moisten it a lot with liquid or it gets stuck. This is not good. I was told the surgeon would call me to set a surgery date.
(crickets)
I know that COVID may make them postpone it, but it would be nice to connect with the office and get a preliminary date. It matters because it will affect the timing of my breast reduction too, as they won't want to do the reduction till the thyroid is sorted out, as it can cause anesthesia problems. (This happened 20 years ago too; I had to get the thyroid taken care of before they did my tubal ligation.)
I'm one of those people who handles anxiety by planning. If I'm worried about winter storms, I make sure we all have warm clothes, store water, stocked pantry, have a way to cook if the power goes off, snow shovels, and an extra week of our meds. I would normally handle this anxiety by saying, "Okay, what can I plan for freezer meals for that time and for 7=10 days where I'm getting back to normal? Can I work this around the winter holidays where I will be doing All The Cooking? But I have no date. I don't know.
So there was a binge last night (but because bodies are weird I was down a pound today) and it was all about the anxiety of Not Knowing. I really really hope they call today because binging every evening to cope with the anxiety isn't sustainable.6 -
Not knowing is horrible.
Can you keep your hamsters (a nod to PAV here) content by coming up with a few contingency plans around some potential dates? Like Mid October, Mid November, Mid December?
Being down a pound this morning is just such a good example ofthe weight loss weirdness we see all the time it made me laugh out loud.
You are a crazy strong woman - you will find a way to plan your way through this.3 -

Thank you for the vote of confidence. In the whole Myers-Briggs thing I am an extreme J type. I am not at all comfortable with uncertainty. Situations like this ramp up my anxiety right through the roof.
I'll think out how to handle Thanksgiving and Christmas and that will help me a lot. And I can probably schedule around the precooking week before Thanksgiving, and that would work fine.
I also started on thyroid hormone replacement because I have all the hypothyroid symptoms despite being theoretically euthyroid according to the test, and so it doesn't surprise me that I'm dropping a little weight as my metabolism revs back up. The timing is just hilarious.3
