You seriously venturing to Port Dover in the summer? If so - you certainly must come visit the land of raining soy beans! I'll cook you up some of my favourite veggie sausages. :) Though wait. They aren't soy. :#

Sadly, on reread, I sort of misspoke.

I have an open invitation to visit some people in Port Dover and I'm hoping to someday do so. But no it is not in the cards for either this or next summer!🤷🏻‍♂️
However I would definitely drop by for veggie sausages and a dog walk by the cliffs!👍😹

I thought they would have "caravans" or what have you and "glam-ping" out there in the populated You-Ro-Pean continent... oh wait... is that island part of the continent!?!??!?! :naughty:

Why did you put "caravans" in quotation marks? Caravans aren't an exclusively British thing, are they? Don't you have caravans on the North American continent?

As for your other deliberately incendiary comment to this proud europhile, sadly, far too many of my compatriots now seem to think we're NOT part of Europe since we left the EU. Heaven knows what continent they think we belong to....the continent of the United Kingdom maybe, where the population density figures for Ignoramuses and bigots are off the charts...

It's fine in the UK to tell folks you're off camping...glamping...caravanning...but if you decide to rent a holiday cottage instead don't tell them you're off to do a spot of cottaging :naughty:

In this northern end of the North America continent we tend towards convoys these days...caravans are so passe.

    RV, camper, (camper) trailer.

Caravans tend to invoke a line of camels heading off into the desert!

Heading off to look into why you guys have apparently converted your summer lake residences into public washrooms🙀😹

Btw Garfield, isn't February sort of early for camping season over there? I thought it was more of a summer time thing!

A little late to the "Where is everyone?" party, but I am in Southwestern Kansas. It was a nice and sunny day yesterday and today is supposed to be even nicer.

I don't camp, when we go to the lake and stay overnight we rent one of the cabins. They have heat/AC, running water, full kitchen. I don't consider that camping. Someday we would like to buy an RV or camper trailer but that would still be comfy traveling.

Ha!….my idea of camping is the Marriott for a spa weekend….thinking of bugs, weeds, and sleeping in a tent makes me shudder!

I’m with Connie on camping. No thank you. We tried it a few times but I hated it. I like my nature visits in small doses without the critters and cooking over fires. Isn’t that why people began building permanent homes and going to restaurants? And no running water or flushing too!

About 20 years ago we bought a luxury motor home….our daughter competed swimming all over the state and we thought the RV would save us money!….Ha!….daughter preferred staying in the hotel with her team mates!….I hated using the shower in the RV and we still ate in restaurants…..we had matching china, silverware and wine glasses…..a year later we sold the RV after using it about 6 times!….

I love camping. Always laugh at myself when I'm freakin' exhausted at the end of the day, trying to find a comfortable spot where there are no roots or rocks under me and questioning why???? But, a change IS as good as a rest - and they are all different stressors - and I sleep like a log because of the day being so active AND it feels SO GOOD to get home to my bed and running water and toilet.

So we’re on our fourth day of a boil water notice. Apparently some doofus at the water treatment facilities made an error ( no more info given) and the water was considered unsafe. This is the 3rd time in the last four years with various excuses. It makes cooking and cleaning up difficult. And bottled water is scarce. Considering this is a city of over one million, it’s just hard to accept constant human errors on this.
So I’m boiling pots of water, using bottled water for teeth brushing, dish washing, cleaning up in general. 🤯🤯🤯
    Anxiety!

That sounds awfully annoying, Yooly. Four days is a long time! Any idea how long it will take to sort out?

@Yoolypr this sounds... very annoying for you. I hope they sort things out soon. You could try a water cooler delivery trial, though they might not fall for it at this time😹

@Athijade I hope for the best for you!

One way of going at things is by looking for THE HOME you will live in.

Another way is to separate it in your mind into a purely business transaction where you're investing current capital and ongoing payments and expected expenses plus contingency in return for something.

That something could then be broken down into what you would expect to spend elsewhere to rent. And what you would expect to get when you eventually sell if you decide to do so in the future. All discounted to present values.

I know you love Excel 😹

Well, of course you want a house that feels like “ home “ but a house is an investment, too….I have lived in 17 different houses in 49 years!…and 2 we lived in about 9 years each!….we moved a lot when I was growing up, too…about 10 different houses before I was 20!…the house we are in now ( 3 years ) doesn’t feel like home yet….it is so different from any house we have ever had but it is a great investment….houses in this area are scarce and the market is hot but I am not moving any more!

So, no go on the house. Taking this weekend off because I am just tired. Need some time to figure out what I want to do.

Good for you, Connie - and such good news about John!

Very happy he is feeling better from his bout with Covid…now if the diabetes, RA, and spinal stenosis would let up!….our temps going back and forth 40 plus degrees isn’t helping….he gets shots in his hip and knee next week at the pain management place and a visit to the RA doctor…some days I do not know how he gets through this…last night we argued who had what ache the worst lol….my toes are killing me and his skin is dry, my eyes itch and his fingers hurt, on and on until our daughter said she was just going to shoot both of us and get it over with which set Aliyah off giggling until we were all complaining and laughing because Amanda’s torn meniscus is hurting, too!…

Take a minute and make sure you know where your heart and mind are @Athijade!

Great news about John, though steroid fueled eating is scary to see... and should give us all a hint as to how powerful hormones are!

You deserve some quality "me time" @Athijade! Walking away from all that stress right now helps us regroup and relax the always working brain, in my opinion!

Glad to hear you both are doing better, @conniewilkins56! Here's hoping for a calmer day for you?

As for me, I think I'm just going to take it slow this week. Early start to practicing maintenance, I guess. Had a nice scare right at midnight that ended up needing to go to the emergency room for a few hours. Now I need to discuss with my doctor about this whatever monitoring to figure out what's going on.

Funnily enough, this somehow prompted me to reconsider my current meal plan goals and setup. I ended up on The Influence of Meal Frequency and Timing on Health in Humans: The Role of Fasting from the NIH website. I won't say I could read through all the scientific jargon (I gave up once I started reading section 4). Still, the concluding section did give me something to think about!

As I stared at this image and read the conclusion, I realized I could benefit from following the left side. I think I'll give this a try starting this week to see if eating more of my calories earlier in the day and increasing the "fasting period" at night helps with my horrible sleeping patterns. Maybe it'll also help with my issue this morning, too.

Keep us posted @luxia2020 ... this is something I toy with now and again - but then hit a few days where I stay up too late for work and come around midnight or so I start snacking and I probably don't have to tell you what that can lead to. But I do like the idea of having fewer, bigger meals, earlier in the day, because sometimes I'm fine until I eat something...and then I have a hard time stopping.

Hmm an interesting roundup of the studies...

All I know is that in the 46 weeks since I started controlling my weight, I've eaten 3 meals and 0 snacks per day; I eat my first meal between 08:00 and 09:00 and my last meal between 18:00 and 19:00, so effectively I fast for 11-15 hours a day. I've lost 68lbs in 46 weeks.

However, in the 46 weeks prior to controlling my weight, I gained 32lbs. I ate 3 meals and (usually) 0 snacks per day; I ate my first meal between 08:00 and 09:00 and my last meal between 18:00 and 19:00, so effectively I fasted for 11 -15 hours a day. Any snacks I did have were always in the afternoon, before dinner. Never after dinner, even during binge behaviour.

For me, the difference between gaining 32lbs or losing 68lbs doesn't appear to be one of meal timing, frequency and hours spent fasting; rather it's the caloric hit of the food eaten at those 3 meals, and the calories I burn through intentional exercise. Those are the big differences between those two 46 week time periods. Anything else is small change.

Personally I eat my last meal at 18:00/19:00 (around 6 hours before I go to bed) because otherwise I get heartburn and reduced quality sleep, not because of any natural aversion to late night snacking. Whenever I'm in Rome we start dinner much later (about 22:00) and I definitely notice that my sleep is poorer for going to bed within 4 hours of eating a heavy meal.

In evolutionary terms we're not natural nightowls, so I wonder if we have less willpower to resist the lure of overeating sugary/fatty foods at 01:00 when we're naturally at a low point in our circadian rhythm, than we do at 13:00 when we're much much more alert. For me, at least, it's easier to resist late night snacking in the first place, than to exercise moderation once I've started.

Interesting....I'll need to mull over this some more....
