I marvel at Alexandra’s organizational skills! I’m pretty nowhere near her standards.
Hey Connie- I’ll be 75 in four months and I still care!
You’re never too old to fit into last years pants👖. You can do this again and maintain it.2 -
Connie - from the glimpses we have of your personality, you'll NEVER be too old to care.
My MIL will be nailed into her coffin still caring deeply about her appearance.3 -
I can confirm re my mom vs your MIL vs appearance. Not necessarily any other traits. but the appearance issue for sure. Mom had the biggest fight with the greek priest as to whether her casket would be open as per greek orthodox tradition or closed so no attendees would be able to see her face. priest lost. And after everyone left for the reception the priest stayed behind with dad to do the open casket portion of the funeral with no-one else present.2

Connie: in a slightly happier but cautionary note because you know what my friend: you are far far far off from dead... m'ok?
I run your numbers in excel and made a graph last night. Of course I don't have the in-between numbers. So I assumed "linear" progression and the same amount of weight change every month in between. I know that this is probably hiding a lot of ups and downs. Maybe knowing the ups and downs would make a meaningful difference. Maybe it wouldn't.
But, you really need to take a minute and CHANGE how you are approaching things. Whatever happens when you "start losing" and then ends with you "but I didn't continue and I binged" has to change.
Take a deep breath. Think things through. Make small or substantial methodical changes in how you approach things. Talk things out with us. But for the love of Connie do NOT just continue to do exactly what you've been doing these past few months without a single change.
REGARDLESS OF UNDERLYING CAUSES the past few months have just not been working out well for your weight as you know.
On average you lost weight initially at a rate of about 4.4lbs a MONTH, which is a MORE than EFFECTIVE and respectable 52.8lbs a year. That is BARELY MORE than ONE lb a WEEK and yet you successfully lost a LOT of weight that way.
Your attempts to quickly lose any weight you had regained have ended up in a 5.3lb a month increase. That's a rate of 63.6lbs a year. We do NOT want this to continue.
Not continuing this is far more important than how fast you get back to 240.
All of us in this group are in this for the long haul. If we could just "auto-pilot" we wouldn't be here in the first place, would we!?!?!?!
I am not sitting here NOT minding and NOT paying ANY attention to what and how much I'm eating am I? I just try to work with my own hamsters within the parameters that they allow me to trick them and manipulate them into what needs doing!
There are many many things you can try--this is NOT a "OMG all is lost" discussion.
It IS a "the evidence to date hints that I really need to chill a minute and adapt and make SOME change in order to not continue down the same path" INVITATION to a discussion between Connie and her hamsters!
Ideas--many have been offered by everyone. From enlisting the aid of counsellor or dietician. To just trying for maintenance MINUS as opposed to maintenance plus like Laurie seems to have proposed for herself above.
Please drop the artificial timelines and just worry about setting yourself in a better general direction -- and I think you know that this was what Novus was writing about in his early posts -- or did I misread them?
For *kittens* sake. This is NOT dump on Connie. I just want to make sure that you're here to bug me about my fish-water soup when I make it again in a year or three!4 -
Well said, Pav. It’s a hard truth and you’re a good friend not to duck it.2

I will be here!…slimmer and younger than before!
Seriously I do need to make some changes….baby steps!3 -

I haven't lost as much as you have, but one thing I have learned is that "what works" changes as you go on with this.
What worked for me used to be three meals and two snacks, first meal more of a snack. I now have better luck with breakfast eaten in two halves, a substantial lunch, dinner, and no snacking. Apparently now if I eat anything after dinner I'll just keep going. (shrug)
So we readjust and do things a little differently, and adapt, and carry on. I know you'll do this and everything will work out all right.5 -
6 hours of gardening 🧑🌾 🧑🌾 I now feel about 90...2
-
Bella? Explain? Do 90 year olds garden more than Garfields do?!?!?1
-
If they do they must have bionic spines and knees....2

As you all have advised and suggested I am trying to make some changes….I know I am not eating enough during the day and I am starving by dinner…a good filling snack needs to be added mid day…I have been neglecting my alone time…I try to save enough calories to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate late at night when everyone is asleep…no noise, no TV on, no talking or music…I have missed my evening rituals where I unwind with a shower, scented body wash, facials, creams, sugar scrubs, etc….I have had to jump in the shower, use bar soap ( ugh ) and jump out without thinking of anything else…living with 5 other people, that alone time is key to my emotional well being…I have to start swimming again….I have been afraid to leave John alone but my 16 year old grandson is here in case of an emergency…( btw his heart surgery recovery has been nothing short of miraculous )…. I am buying lots more fruit and vegetables….I am tasting what I eat instead of mindlessly shoving the food into my mouth….John and I have started eating in our room, alone without the dog begging or other distractions…our family rarely eats together or the same meals….baby steps!……
I am considering seeing a dietitian especially after my cardiologist appointment…God knows what the doctor will tell me to cut out of my diet!…as for a psychologist or psychiatrist, I can be very manipulative and I have been down that road…for now I am concentrating on the things I know that work and making small changes!
Thanks everyone for your constant support…4 -
Go Connie Go! Here’s to never giving up 🥂 Welcome to th club & a very select one it is …. & I’m sure the Cardiologist will applaud your progress so far as well as giving you a kick up the jacksee some good advice to spur you on!2

Forgot to share my day! Despite creaking joints, went on a massive walk today …. Just out of the door & kept on going! Ended up at Saltaire Art Trail & had a very nice time indeed! Won a raffle prize of a piece of amateur art to put on the wall! Think ate ok … had beans on toast with some cheese at cafe!2
-
Sounds like a good walk/day, Atki!
Connie - Can't help but think a dietician/nutitionist would be good - at least for some encouragement/motivation/something to spice up your motivation on a different level? This long term weight loss thing gets a bit boring especially if your not currently getting the hit/high of losing.2 -
You have to provide your own entertainment 🐹🤔 🐇😘😎2

Hamster wrangling is infinitely absorbing and interesting!3
-
But to have a new wrangling tool!!!!! That sounds so exciting.2

Need @AlexandraFindsHerself1971’d dose of fudge….. cannot move here 🤪 … Playing… found Happy Weight App … what a toy!3

Today is probably not going to be as good as I wanted, as the worse of the two feet is giving me grief today. But I will see what I can do in between sitting till it calms to a dull roar. The sunroom needs vacuumed, as it looks like it snowed thanks to Hana, who is a medium-hair cat and sheds white hair copiously. They do love the sunroom though. They can watch birds and squirrels! What more does a cat need? LOL
Also going to clean the downstairs bathroom because it needs it. I may get the clutter dealt with in the library, or I may not. Depends on the standing budget, and that is limited already.5 -
Feel better. The both of you.
I can assure you that a certain dog I know definitely does not, NOT, need any of Alexandria's brownies.
I should have taken a picture of how her paw was positioned yesterday bent inside while she was staring at it. Pupils fully dilated. Full on ataxia and limbs going in different directions, stiff, and tiny steps. Nodding off while standing and not willing to lie down. Startled by noises or movement. Vitals ok. Spent 6 hours at emergency. Then they gave her back for her to sleep it off.
Better but not at all chipper this morning. At least sleeping and walking normally and not jumping at shadows!🤷🏻♂️
Probable vector food she swipped from people out toking or found after it was dropped by someone where we went for our 4pm walk! Though I would think that if they're smoking they wouldn't be eating too?

You're going to need to rob a bank at this rate....1
-
Maybe a leash for the wayward doggy?1
-
Swipes objects on leash with cone on head as evidenced by piece of marrow bone recovered from guilty subject when she didn't manage to swallow or fully crunch on on Tuesday. On leash. With cone. Cone on ground encircling object. Dive and grab!
Yesterday was "free" given that Thursday's planned surgical suturing was three/four times more than what I ended up paying when it was avoided. (310 GBP vs a projected 1000 GBP)
So what would yesterday's 150 quid get me over there? A jacket potato at Tesco?🤣 Gas tank was half of that. For the car!🤷🏻♂️🐹🤷🏻♂️ (CAD 2.09/l)

Let me get this right?….your dog ate a “ joint” ?…..interesting….I hope he/ she is ok….your dog has tried drugs, and me, a teenager during Hippie Days , has never had one single puff!…
Today Mr. Fixit is hanging a door and hooking the extra washer and dryer up in the garage….I have been hanging pictures, cleaning, laundry, prepping food, and other fun projects!….my son in law is trying to locate a tail light for our Navigator as I backed into a car and broke it….no damage to other car as I was going maybe 1 mph …. I hadn’t told anyone I backed into someone until the tail light fell out lol….4 -
Poor girl! Glad she is better....hope she keeps improving. Didn't realize how toxic it was for pups until recently when there was a problem at the dog park. A biggish park with lots of green space and people stroll there in the evening and drop their smokables that dogs have been known to get into.2

Something else to worry about when I get my dog.... (sigh)
It's been rainy/chilly today, so everyone has had some degree of a headache and varying amounts of body ache depending on age and life history. Not much has gotten done except reading books and drinking a lot of tea. I'm going to have a very good stretch of hips and hamstrings and see about cleaning up the dishes before I crawl into a hot bath and bed. Chronic pain isn't fun.6 -
Reefer Beauty has been reported as capable of chasing field mice and picking at her flank scab without falling asleep while attempting to do so!3

While I enjoy getting holiday pay for federal and state holidays, I found I don't enjoy having a random day off during the week that is not a Monday or Friday. We were off yesterday for Primary Elections so today feels like a second Monday. Ugh. Really struggling with energy. Plus, it is public service employee appreciation week and there is food. Like donuts. I had a donut this morning. Not the best choice. But free donuts...4
