    Great news/work, Yooly.
I haven't weighed myself in a while, and the past month has been mostly a moderation fail. My goal at the moment is to lose 20lbs. I guess I'll have to weigh myself so I can monitor it. But I think 20 lbs will make my winter coat fit and will make me feel better. I hope. And I will go from there in the new year.

Well, my numbers were doing great; until I got into stuff I don't keep around because I haven't been able to control the rampant cravings I get when I have just one and that one leads to the whole package of whatever that was. ... And so my weight is a bit higher today than it was when I reported last.

On the bright side though, I know this is but a blip on the scale and that were I not recording the weight for this specific date then it would have shown a loss. The scale weight is a moment in time and it will be different on the next time I weigh in. ... It's the trend I need to keep watch of and that trend says I am still maintaining instead of trimming down.

Hey a winter coat that fits is life or death in Canada 🇨🇦.

I weigh every day. While I recognize meds, salty food, stress along with bad choices show up on the scale, it still is discouraging. I’m basically maintaining my weight loss but want to lose the last twenty pounds. Although lately I’ve gotten less determined because generally I’m healthy. Should I be chasing rainbows at age 75 or just be happy about the 100 pounds that are gone?

Well... the dude over here also known as "max post Christmas weight already in November" has gotten so lax he didn't even remember till this very moment that November 20 was his 8th anniversary from the day he started logging on MFP!

Almost a lb down today when in actual fact he was expecting to be up... what the bleep?!?! BUT, it is (sadly) official... at max "scream weight" on November 20 this year.

I don't have the trend weight entered and figured out but scale was at exactly 160. Previous ventures to 160 during the past six years have been fairly transitory.

Last time I was at or above 160 for a significant amount of time was while I was at the tail end of weight loss in early 2016. By May 2016 I had dropped the "last" 5lbs to was firmly in the 155's

In November I've ranged from 158.0 to 162.8, and I'm currently at 159.2. So definitely "January and time to lose this Christmas fat territory" I think I am going to cancel Christmas! :astonished::rage:

    Don’t be that guy! lmunfenalavd.jpeg
Enjoy Christmas - carefully - and then hit the weight loss hard. It’s only another month and no point being a hermit over five pounds which you can lose before spring.

So 2014 to 2015 Nov was just under 75lb. 2015 nov 20 to 2016 nov 20 just over 11lbs, but pretty much stable since late May/early June going from memory.

And March/April 2016 was the last time I was extensively hanging out in the 160+ range.

So, yeah, no. I don't care if I cancel birthdays and Christmas.... it's not as if I'm Mr not Grinch at Christmas anyway.

Unfortunately I don't think I will be allowed to because of all the annoyingly cheerful people who insist on bugging me.

Large deficits tend to backfire. We all want to get it done and done fast. But finesse is sometimes to be considered.... a slow GROOVE is what I would prefer... If I can establish it! 🤷🏻‍♂️😘

I’ve got to get back to accurate logging. No creative calculating or free range grazing that I forget to enter. And back to eating in a 12 hour window - I am a night owl and snacking at midnight is NOT free calories.

You use a weight trend web site or phone app or averaging to help smooth normal scale fluctuations, right @nsk1951?

@PAV8888 ... I keep a spreadsheet; one that I have used for the past 8 years, or maybe it's been 10 yrs? It's a combination worksheet that I designed to suit myself for the various things I like to track; with weight tracking being a large part of it.

It came about over time for me to stop focusing on the daily weight and look at longer period trends.
Used to be that an up or down on the scale would set the underlying mood I was in for the day. That was not a healthy approach for my emotional well being. However, it is important for me to keep stepping on the scale every day for a number of reasons, only one being to gauge how much fluid retention might be happening. Then there is that need to not let myself get complacent ... I need to have little triggers along the way to remind me of why I want/need/try to slim down.

This! Stepping on the scale daily is a reminder of why I should not eat salty foods.

Stepping on it every day good (and necessary to have sufficient data points). But reaction should be to trend, not just daily weight  Other than in terms of anti-sodium, that's a valid reason on its own but not having to do with fat reserve loss!

No formulas that I ever found .. it's all work I did on my custom designed spread sheet. Takes a bit of work but hardly any.

Wow! I was looking at the "official" formula =Average(OFFSET(first_cell, COUNT(entire_range)-N, 0, N, 1) and at various solutions based on tables and what have you--and failing to figure out what everything meant--and never considered the "simple" way!

method #2 in this article... https://www.exceldemy.com/moving-average-in-excel/)
Basically use the drag and drop handlebar copy method!

I am sure others here can probably do this more elegantly  but for a quick brute force method... I used 10x as a multiplier for the most recent weight in, decreasing down to 1x for the 10 days old result... (you would have to have a daily weight in or put in an average for missing days)... and then divided by 55 to get my 10 day moving weighted average (once I used the handlebars to copy the formula downwards)

    A1 225.5
    A2 225.0
    A3 225.5
    A4 224.7
    A5 225.3
    A6 224.6
    A7 224.5
    A8 224.9
    A9 225.6
    A10 224.5 224.9 =(A10*10+A9*9+A8*8+A7*7+A6*6+A5*5+A4*4+A3*3+A2*2+A1*1)/55
    A11 224.4 224.8 =(A11*10+A10*9+A9*8+A8*7+A7*6+A6*5+A5*4+A4*3+A3*2+A2*1)/55
    A12 225.1 224.9 =(A12*10+A11*9+A10*8+A9*7+A8*6+A7*5+A6*4+A5*3+A4*2+A3*1)/55
    A13 224.4 224.8 =(A13*10+A12*9+A11*8+A10*7+A9*6+A8*5+A7*4+A6*3+A5*2+A4*1)/55
    A14 224.6 224.7 =(A14*10+A13*9+A12*8+A11*7+A10*6+A9*5+A8*4+A7*3+A6*2+A5*1)/55

    etc

(well, TBH, I just use trendweight... but as I said I got distracted1)

No comment on the above post from PAV because I have no earthly idea what that is all about. 🙄 wouldn’t even take a guess! But I’m glad that whatever it is works for you... Looks like some evil math homework assignment.

I’m still fighting the three extra pounds. If I can get through Christmas at the same weight I’ll be very happy. The next three weeks will be a challenge and my new meds that slow metabolism aren’t helping. Still better than the past so I can’t complain.

Went to the doctor for my 3 month maintenance check-up. Results were good.

Granted a small muscle loss is not ideal, but given covid and a hernia surgery limited my exercise for almost two months, the result is expected. I'll take it! :)

I've never seen a doctor report chart like the one Dante shared. It's got great info on it that I wish was also available from our doctors here in the USA. ... Of course, I could not make out most of it except for the BM! part!

No numbers to share from me right now. I have been remiss in stepping on that danged scale the past few days. ... I'm such a creature of habit that if I break one little routine, it seems to be like a domino effect on a whole bunch of others! ... Will have to focus on getting back on track with a slightly different schedule ... and that means creating new habits.

This is a readout page from a BIA I did at my doctors'. It is very useful (together with DEXA scans) for getting a ballpark figure about your body composition, and more importantly to compare results across time.

I'm very lucky because I work in health and have free access to this stuff.

You are certainly fortunate to have this kind of analysis Dante. I’m sure this would be in the tens of thousands dollars here - IF you could get anyone to do this. This kind of in depth information is mainly saved for high dollar professional athletes! The rest of us mortals muddle along with a bathroom scale and some routine blood work once in a while.

@nsk1951 and @Yoolypr my friend depending on where you're located a body composition dexa scan probably can be had near the $100 level. One of the first google hits seems to confirm this: https://dexascan.com/locations/

Now, Dante has had several scans in a row showing his wonderful progression. They appear to have been done on a multipoint bia machine as opposed to being dxa scans. You would expect bia to be less expensive but the sales pitch 🙀by the gym or weight management provider may make it less so 🤷🏻‍♂️ and multiple scans = multiple Ben Franklins 😬🤣

To your benefit body composition changes would be slow while weight stable so it could be a not too expensive thing to run through one or two. Mind you, though neat it won't drastically improve your life! 😹 Bonus points on a dexa scan by adjusting their settings they can easily plus sell a gold standard bone density scan as a twofer.... if the operator is sufficiently qualified to do so in that jurisdiction (where I'm at she would have had to be a radiologist for the one but not the other)

@Dante_80, a reminder, because it took me a while to figure this out, that the scan differentiates bone, fat tissue and non fat tissue. non fat tissue, of course, includes much more than just muscle and is expected to go down with weight loss. You've actually done an amazing job minimizing non fat mass loss. Tbh unless counteracted by active strength training I would expect some further lean mass to be lost while weight stable as your insides continue to re-adjust to the disappearance of excess fat reserves while slowly getting rid of now useless supporting stuff 😜

At my age doing intensive body analysis is kind of pointless. The law of diminishing returns! If I were Dante’s age it would be a valuable tool for reaching fitness goals. At 75 - meh 😒
My bone density is fine now but there are ongoing aging losses along with loss of muscle/strength. I can slow it down a bit but it’s gonna happen anyhow!
So rather than find out that my body is metabolic 110 years old, I’ll muddle along with the bathroom scale. I’d really like to at least move those “found” three pounds.

I had a Dexa scan back when I was 64 years old at a gym. I also had one this past summer that was strictly to see what my bone density was. That one was done at the radiology clinic.

Sounds about right/as expected  They ARE interesting to look at. But beyond that... I am not sure that they do add much... and that's coming from someone who paid for a good six or seven!

Well .. the Dexa Scan I got 13 years ago was because the gym was doing it as part of their fitness program at a reduced rate to measure your body lean vs fat content. They were big into hi-intensity exercise and weight training. I didn't go with them because they were too expensive. The one I had this past year was my doctors desire to see the bone density in my major joints ... the ones that old women often break if their bones are weak from osteoporosis that often times makes them bed bound. Fortunately, my bones are strong.
