    Good morning!
    First November weigh-in:
    PW: 233.8
    CW: 228.4

It is fun to see the loss but the first week is always the easiest. I am assuming most of this is water weight and my stomach shrinking a bit. I think this next week will really show me a realistic weekly goal.

I will continue to swim in the mornings and keep tracking....here we go!

@VarangianGuard You are right, the first losses come easier, and congrats!! It's a start and a bit of loss in the beginning is still encouraging and don't discount it. All losses help!!

@143tobe The pickle juice is something I've also been known to drink while fasting, and it works for the same reason as broth does, has those vital electrolytes that give you a boost while not taking in actual calories.

My belated introduction to the newcomers

My name is Cindy, I'm 57 and I've been a member of this group since November of last year. I joined MFP last October. I have been overweight off and on since college. I have tried many diets (Jenny Craig, Nutri-system, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, just plain old dieting, etc). I would take the weight off but it would eventually return. I was prompted to make a permanent change in my life after making a business trip last October. I was 273 lbs, the biggest I had ever been in my life. I had not flown in a plane since I was a child so I was already scared to death. That was compounded when I was seated next to a mean old woman who rudely asked to be seated in another seat because I was too big. I had to get a seat belt extender and I didn't even know what that was....it was a small plane and I barely fit through the aisles....it was the stuff of nightmares. This isn't mentioning the walking through Charlotte Douglas airport which seemed to be about a mile long. When we got to the destination it was a small coastal town where you had to walk everywhere. Some of my co-workers wouldn't wait for me so I ended up lagging way behind everyone else (one person kindly did wait on me). On the plane trip back, I decided that I would NEVER face that humiliation again so I made an appointment the next day to see a weight loss specialist. She recommended MFP and the rest is history. I still need to lose about 42 lbs but I feel sooooo much better. It's gotten a lot harder to lose weight but if I am only losing a couple of pounds a month that is ok.

One thing I told myself from the beginning is that this isn't a "diet". This is a lifestyle change. I don't have cheat days or go crazy eating things I shouldn't. I haven't had a cheeseburger, chips, pizza, fast food, pasta or candy in over a year. I did have a dessert on vacation last year. This is my life now. I walk 4 to 5 miles a day.....sometimes on Sunday I take it easy. The only time I eat crazy stuff is in my dreams....ha ha. I usually wake up hungry the next day so I think my dreams were telling me something. I'm not saying everyone has to do this....but for the first time in my life I have found something that works and this is something that is permanent.

This is a great group of people here.

Exercise: Walking, just over 1.5 miles
💬Comments: I didn’t use my exercise bike today which I’m a bit disappointed about. However, I’m around 250 calories under my allowance which I’m happy about, so I don’t feel too bad 🙂

I didn't have to be at school until after noon so I decided to walk to my polling station to vote this morning. Killed two birds, as they say. Nice little 3 1/2 walk, then hubby met me and we walked the dogs.

Exercise: 2 mile run, 13,000 steps

It's been a good day. Amazing how running in the morning makes your entire day go better.

@143tobe @AB0215 I LOVE pickle juice. It just gives that boost and wakes your taste buds up and when you're exhausted... BAM. Instant energy push.

    Calories: Yes
Exercise: Yes 75 mins weight training,, 60 mins walking.

Comments: Super sore today and didn't walk as long as I wanted to but that has less to do with the soreness and more to do with my mom derailed my train when she told me about cheap thanksgiving turkeys. Got 30 lbs worth of turkey for 15 bucks, so worth the run to the store, I'll make up for the half an hour of walking over the next couple days, but I did want to get the turkey, thanksgiving is always at my house and I wanted to get another turkey for myself (I might have a problem....I do love me some turkey.).

@genajonas Hormones play a big role in weight loss (and gain) and they can ultimately decide if you lose or don't lose or gain depending on what they're signaling the body and if they aren't balanced or happy you won't lose, and increasing your intake can actually help keep those hormones happy and in turn they will let go of the extra fat, but this process can take a bit of time for them to normal out, so definitely give it some time before you throw in the towel on this one.
