So it seems like most of this thread is just for small work out videos versus chit chat? Anyway, am not dedicated enough to do weights or work out type videos. It is mostly all I can do to run in the morning, take a walk sometime during the day and ride my horse in the evening. Sigh.
How is everyone dealing with stress lately? I find it very mentally challenging dealing with the "threat" of Covid19 all the friggin time. As a single woman without a lot of close friends I worry what would happen to my horse and my cats if I should get badly ill and need to be hospitalized. I have always had that as a small worry but now it's like a HUGE ugly red sign in my brain. I know my situation is probably not as dire as others since I am not furloughed, my factory is working (my pay was SLASHED for 6 months tho.. sigh) and I can work from home but the whole horror stories of what this virus can do to a person (and as a runner omg!! ) are just totally frightening.
Summer AKA bON
PS - I did accept a couple friend requests from the other thread but I think some folks perception of active friendship is different than mine.2 -
@SummerSkier - post whatever you want here! I totally understand your concern for your animals. I do think you're in fabulous shape and if you did happen to catch it I really doubt you'd need to be hospitalized. While I do believe the plague is real, the media also plays on sensationalism blows things up worse than they really are.
Sometimes I run thru the workout videos and I love not having to hunt up quick stuff. There's just never enough hours in the day.
I'm soooo tired of the current state of affairs. In a lot of ways, it's life as normal for us and in others - it's a mess. We had a big sale we were counting on taking 4 horses to in Fort Worth this month, of course it was cancelled. I think I cried for a week. I really miss that area and was counting on a week vacation away from here. Life back in NM after 20 years in Texas is awful. This area is a ghetto but we're stuck here for a few more years until hubby's kiddos are older. We were invited to a sale in WY in June so I've been working my tail off to get decent marketing photos of our horses this week.
I'm exhausted and have no idea of what news to follow and what to ignore. I'm social distancing and doing all the things - but can't think about it anymore. I just can't.
I haven't been on here much the last little bit, I've been working thru lunch - taking pics till dark and then editing and working on write-ups till 11:00. Got it all turned in this morning and I feel like it's a huge load off my shoulders. Now to get the videos up by next week - ARGH!
One of the pics that didn't make it from yesterday's work - but it makes me laugh. Pretty well sums up my current mood.

Oh yeah. I laugh whenever they do that. Back in the day.... when you had to do film and develop I had a pro take a photo of Bandit and I after our first PSG test. My ex was helping by pushing Bandit's ears forward for the shot and in the meantime he got even. Did not see it till the proofs of course.
I totally understand your stress with all the sales being delayed etc. I have never been to NM but Austin has been my home for almost 30 years so I am kind of settled. Maybe you will make it back to this area in a few years and we can hook up!!!

That's a great pic!! Funny what characters some of them are. I'm so thankful for the digital technology with pictures now, I can't even imagine how much film I'd burn thru attempting to get the right look. One of my goals for this year is to work on improving my photography skills and really learn how to use all the different settings on my camera and some editing software. Bought a new laptop 2 weeks ago so I've been setting that up as well.
I love Austin, such a fun area - bet it's beautiful right now.3 -
@SummerSkier. We are all thrown in an exceptional situation and there is no guide, no ‘coping with Covid for dummies’ in the library, so we all need to find ways to find out how we can deal with it (and btw, I don’t mean you are a dummy- just making sure you don’t interpret it that way 😉).
For me, it helped a great deal to limit my news intake to reading only the most serious newspaper in the country once a day and keep away from all social media except here and Goodreads. I also cut out some family members on WhatsApp who were proclaiming the zombie apocalypse while ignoring the most basic rules themselves.
I also work with statistics all day, which helped me to decipher what trends were important and which were not. Now, after six weeks in what APPEARS to be the most deadly country (I live in Belgium), I’ve adapted to the new situation and I have let go of the fear, because I let go of the fear-mongering.
It seems to me that you are a healthy young woman so the risk of you going to hospital at the moment, leaving your animals behind is probably less than in normal times when you have to commute to and from work and other activities. Take a breath and focus on the here and now, keep looking ahead and plan as best as you can for the immediate and further future and let the worries arise when the situation should worsen. In the meantime, breath, drink lots of water and wash your hands. 😉
Big big hug to you and all other ladies who need it.3 -
@SummerSkier, this is WHY I luv this group! @cayenne_007 , @Antiopelle are right! I'm no mathematician or strategist but as long as we do our part, this too shall pass!
My brother is an Epidemiologist and have been in the vaccination world for a long time. He is optimistic and thinks we will ride it out. I believe him.
Anyhow, here is one for you! Big hugs!
AFFIRMATIONS TO STOP WORRYING ABOUT THE FUTURE
I am confident about the future.
I am in control of my life.
I am attracting good things into my life.
I will accept and embrace everything that happens.
I will face any obstacle with courage and wisdom.
I will gladly solve any challenging situation.
I release the need for control over things.
I will overcome anything that unfolds for me.
I have the power to create the life I want.3 -
@Antiopelle - I bet that's fascinating. I loved studying statistics in college, I think those were some of my favorite classes. The thing I still remember most is ALL the different ways a data set could be interpreted depending on how you viewed things.
I have soooo many questions about it all. Here in the states, if you test positive for the plague - your death is coded that way. So if I've had a positive test - then I can kill myself in a freak accident riding horses or a car wreck but I'm still going down as a COVID death. Just something to keep in mind when considering the death rates here.
I've also cut way down on my news intake - it's just too much and too conflicting. I limit what I choose to take in and try to only hit the most credible sources that I've already verified.
@weatherking2019 - I bet your brother has some great insight on it. My family members that practice medicine a a bit all over the map on it. They do all believe things will be fine, but their thoughts of how to handle it differ. This seems crazy to me, I have a cousin in CA that works in an ER as a nurse practitioner. She's basically been laid off because they have almost no traffic thru there and her husband has had a huge pay cut because of this. What I'm hearing from all of them is to follow good hygienic practice and do be careful - but carry on! If we can go to Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot - then we can successfully open up many small businesses as well. Not saying we can have huge concerts and sporting events - but there is a lot we can safely do.
I do think this entire thing has highlighted doing the things we can do to make sure our bodies are as healthy as possible if they need to fight off a virus is incredibly important. We have control of our exercise & diet - no one can give us a pill for it. We have to do the work.
@SummerSkier - I was single for a long time and my biggest concern was always trying to make sure my assorted animals would be taken care of if something did happen to me. I absolutely understand that. Hugs! (But I'm pretty sure anyone that runs as much as you do, it's an inspiration - is going to ride this out just fine)2 -
WAIT Antiopelle called me a dummy....!!!! (see I did not read anything after that)
I am enjoying this discussion. Much good insight and of course every day things change.
One thing which does concern me is that supposedly the very worse about this virus is it causes your own immune system to overreact. So those with STRONG immune systems may or may not be ahead of the game. As a runner (thanks Cayenne!) I am also a little worried that if I did get it my lungs would be permanently damaged. I have had the flu a few years back and regardless of how GOOD a shape we are in, virus are hell on older people (I am 61).
So, I am not in the depths of panic or despair or anything like that but I do have nagging worries sometimes as all of us do about one thing or 'nother. Thank goodness I am lucky enough to be able to go ride and destress from work and the world that way..
Bandit I said "SMELL THE ROSES!!! " Not eat them.

Thanks for the reminder! I enjoyed the blogilates workouts some time back but then stopped following. Good one! Used the first videos last night for warm up. I'll definitely have to do something for those abs. A 3(!?!?!) minute session was almost impossible to complete. Yikes! Wake up call!1 -

I need to vent.
Between my fiancee and , we have 3 kids. He has a 17 (today is her BD) girl, I have a 13 boy & 11 girl. Both of our ex is not involved and we both ended up with full custody. (all our kids haven't seen their mom/dad for over an year!)
Anyway, I try to treat all of them the same. They get the same attention and treatment. I think it's only fair. BUT, he doesn't.
He does not want me asking his daughter to do anything. Like NOTHING. No helping, no chores, no cleaning up after HERSELF, no NOTHING!
I'm so stressed because this teenager is a MESS. If I bring up anything about her, he get's ANGRY and upset. She is beyond SPOILED and he let's it happen.
He complains how messy she is but he just goes cleans up after her. Like tampons and ipsy wrappers on bathroom floor. Trash everywhere on vanity where she shares with my daughter.
He complains how she spends money like water, but he keeps giving her $.
He complains she doesn't do anything, he goes cleaning her room, washing linens, bring food to her room on a tray. Brings it back to the kitchen after it sits there for days....
Because she's getting A's at school. It's okay...
I mean is this normal???
I have my kids eat in the kitchen. If they eat in their room, they are responsible to bring back the cups and plates and wash/put in dishwasher, put away trash etc.
They have to clean the bathroom, bring out trash once a week, help around the house.
They are not perfect but they "know" that they are supposed to do help out. He's also an A student but I'm responsible for him. I have to raise a respectable human being! Not mama's boy who can't take care of themselves. My daughter has depression and is not "normal". She's also Gifted and way too smart for her age, meaning she's very sensitive.
She sees this 17 yo who doesn't even say HI to her, and living the way she does. She is confused. All I keep hoping is that she doesn't turn out like her and to learn from this, somehow...
GOD, it just drives me insane.
I just don't get it. He's frugal, very hands on and works very, very hard.
Yet, the way she treats him; Barely says hi or thank you for anything, makes me ill.
All I have to say is I CANNOT WAIT FOR HER TO GO TO COLLEGE and LEAVE!
There, I said it. But l just realized, all the college kids are home now with this pandemic.
Can't win.😭

vent away here my dear. Sometimes when I am really upset and angry it does help to write it all down. Then put it away. You can't win at this. So best to play the long game.. I do think kids will be going off to school in one way or another this fall.1
-
Thanks @SummerSkier!! It helps getting it out of my system!!1
-
@weatherking2019 : glad you can vent here, it helps - I know.
I'm in no position to offer advice and I don't think you need any as it seems to me that you have your priorities straight.
But I understand that it is a stressful situation and it must be difficult to navigate especially with your own kids.
And this too shall pass as soon as she is off to college, so hang in there.
<big hug>2 -
@Antiopelle, Thank you
Hugs help!! I'm so glad we have this "place".
I know this will pass. I know there's more to come. But this is all part of LIFE... Right?
So I will survive. Today is a new day!3 -
So my latest adventure on a new note is candle making. Ok - it's just that I love those small vanilla scented candles but I have noticed that they are extremely wasteful of the wax. The wick burns down yet lots of wax left. So... I bought some wicks on amazon. I have a whole box of wax pcs which I can melt in the microwave and create my own set of votives. I already have the small glasses to use. Just another quarintine adventure....2

@weatherking2019 - I so understand where you're coming from. Big hugs! I think kids in general are tough and stepkids - it's a whole 'nother level. Hang in there!2 -

It’s a miracle.... I got away for an evening of ‘me’ time. Rented a covered arena and took 3 horses. Rode till dark and focused on working on competition goals. It was fabulous some days I really need to step back from the rat race.

My 25th anniversary is in a couple days. I always imagined it being a grand occasion. We had planned a big trip to New York. Now we are still on stay at home orders so we can’t even do a nearby restaurant or hotel. My husband is really wanting us to make the day memorable, but I just can’t think of how. We don’t even have gifts for each other. I’m having trouble feeling like celebrating. I feel like I’m letting him down.3
