HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, and at the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
If you need a week off, a break, a change of weigh-in day - just ask your Captain here on your team chat page. If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to ask if you are travelling, sick, or just needing some time off.
In addition to your own team, there are F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the “Announcements” section for full group challenges.
This month, we have the Leaping Groundhog Challenge! Every day, there will be a question (TWO on groundhog day!!). The more people who post their thoughts and ideas on the question, the more we’ll all learn, and new ways of losing weight and getting fit might come to your attention. The more you read and post, the better it will be - so get ready to answer all 29 questions!
There will also be shorter challenges to get you moving, watching what is on your plate, or getting out of a rut.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love!! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month begin.
THANKS!

Welcome to February! I'll start off the round of introductions. Ongoing and new members, please introduce yourselves and lay out your goals for the month if you are clear about that. If not - don't worry! There are lots of chances to try daily goals, see what works and what does not. We love a good experiment.
I'm Liselyn, living in rural Québec, about 145 km (85 miles) east of Montreal. I am a musician, and retired university music prof, happy not to be dragging off to Montreal to work to sit too much at a desk in admin positions as I did in my last years there. I have a 27 year-old daughter in the Canadian Army, and a 23 year-old son who works locally. They are both so in shape they hold my feet to the fire!!
I finally got serious about losing weight and getting in shape about 8 years ago. I was the heaviest I had ever been, I generally felt unhealthy and out of shape. I had tried for many years to get at it, but kept slipping back. I had a 6 month leave in 2012, and I decided this was IT. By the time I went back to work, I had lost about 25 of the 40 pounds I needed to lose, and made it to goal by November. It was hard but felt so great! I thank my trainers (at the university gym), my son (relentless pest and great gym buddy), and MFP.
After getting there, though, sometimes maintenance doesn't go so well. I finally found the F2F challenge when I had started putting weight back on, and it has really worked for me. Since retiring, especially, I did not have the community at the gym and at work any more. Now I have lost what I re-gained, and now will chip away at the last 5 pounds my doc would love me to lose. Getting there!
You'll hear ad nauseum how much I love snow and snowshoeing, how my co-captain @micki48 introduced me to Pilates a few months ago and now I'm addicted, and I hope I can support all of you in your journey to join me here in maintenance land. It is not much different here! I still track, keep vigilant, and refuse to ever go back. I'm only 5 feet and a bit tall, so every pound shows. Don't worry if it is SLOW, don't worry if you have ups and downs, learn to love your plateaus (where you body takes a minute to get used to a new normal and stops fighting change), and most of all, stick with it. I’m now 66, feeling stronger and better than 10 years ago, so if I can do it, you can too!4 -
Hello! I'm Amber, living in the great Canadian prairie with my husband and my cat. I'm an office worker, a reader and a gamer. Needless to say, physical activity doesn't come super naturally to me. It's something I have to work at.
I started this weight loss thing in April 2019, and I've dropped from ~272 to 200. I've another 50 or so to go before I see the end but a lot of things have already improved so much in my life.
My 32nd birthday is in 2.5 weeks.
My goals this month are:
- Drop to 195.
- Drink WATER. I'm so bad at this. :<
- 3 days of exercise per week.
- Do not eat ALL the birthday cake.
My husband is a phenomenal baker. His chocolate cake can't be beat. It's gonna be tough!5 -
Hi! Welcome any new members and so glad you are still here with us returning members.
I'm Michele from North Carolina, previously New Jersey. I am 55 (in December I said I was 56 🤣🤪??) and the mother of two grown children (daughter 32, son 28) and the proud Mom Mom of one adorable, little, almost 2 year old girl. I was an elementary school teacher for over 20 years, but now watch my sweet granddaughter during the week.
This is my anniversary month for being part Team Waistaways. One year, Wow! What a fantastic group of people. 😘😘 I am co-captain with @jugar Liselyn. I run the step challenge which is a intra-team group of us who turn in our daily steps. At the end of the week, we announce winners and how far we've walked. I will post more on that shortly. Keep it in mind if you are interested.
Speaking of exercise, my big goal for 2020 is to make exercise a habit. I was able to exercise 26 out of 31 days in January , and believe me, that is major progress.
I have lost just about 28 pounds this past year, and would be VERY happy to lose that again this year. I will love and appreciate every pound loss. I have had two long plateaus and I can tell you, there is something to learn from losing AND plateauing. Being part of this group has given me the motivation and support to keep going. That’s the MOST important thing. Keep going!!! This past year, with the Waistaways, I was able to keep my commitment to fitness and health. You can too. So, glad you are all here with us. Let's go Waistaways.5 -
Our February Moderators' Challenge is UP! The first day's question (for tomorrow) has been posted, so go ahead and put in some answers. There will be a new question every day - so I hope lots of people will join in and make the discussions packed with info and insights.

Happy Sunday, everyone!
I'm happy to report that 80% of Team Waistaways hit GREEN for the month of January, and as a group we lost almost 80 pounds. Even though it was not 100%, the gains were small, and I am sure we can get closer to 100% in February. Let's all aim for that magic colour every week this month. Even if you only lose 0.1 pounds in a week, that is still green!
Because we were the biggest team all through January, and we only lost a few (YES! You kept your January energy going!), we have no new members this month. That means we all know at least something about each other.
I'd still love it if you re-post, update, or post for the first time a good introduction. Where do you live, a bit about yourself (whatever you are comfortable sharing), and what are your goals for this month. I'll keep collecting the intros in a Google Doc - everyone can use it to find out more about your teammates!

Here are my requests of all team members for February:- post every day - even if it just "hi! I'm super busy!". It is even better if you update how your eating, water (I'm looking at you, @Terytha !), and exercise went each day. Let the whole team live in your head - when you know you'll be telling us about your day, how you met your goals and all, you'll think twice about having something bad to report You'll hear a kind teammate whispering in your mind, "Are you sure you want that?" or "Drink some water!!" or "C'mon! A few more reps, a few more steps!".
- Use the habit tracker if it helps you. Put in up to 5 goals (you can change them any time), check them off every day. It is simple, and watching the green check marks accumulate can be inspiring. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nNDiCQvYUVWmhp1VRbXiitXH1tem1el-qzK0RoJd9gg/edit?usp=sharing
- Share your ups and downs, rants and raves - it is all good!
- Enjoy the Leaping Groundhog Challenge! Great questions to answer and to see what others are saying. New one every day! https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10783307/leaping-groundhogs-the-02-2020-questions-challenge#latest
I'm going to get off my sorry butt and move! Have a good one!3 -

Once again, pulled it off at the end. I haven't run outside since before Christmas. Ran 6.3 miles this morning. My face & fingers were so cold, but now I can have my nachos!3 -
I'll try posting as often as I can.
Congratulations @Terytha , what an amazing achievement !!
I did ok today, not the best food choices but I stayed under calorie and drank a lot of water.
I made a delicious noodle soup that took about 5 minutes to prepare. Leftover chicken broth, added some herbs & spices, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, frozen chicken pieces and then noodles. Super filling too.
Unfortunately, also had some leftover birthday cake a friend sent over. Not even a cake I like much. Why do I always eat stuff that's lying around, without even thinking...5 -

The cold just makes you run faster, right?? Congrats on keeping the losing streak going - you were our TOP loser in January! 11 pounds outrun!2 -
Hi, I am Andrea, 61 and I live in Toronto.. I am enjoying being in this group! Thanks to all the leaders and motivators!
I did pretty well in January down 2 pounds. I still have about 15 to go. Hoping to be there by summer
I am doing something very interesting right now. My husband found out that he is prediabetic when he had a heart attack a few months ago. We did a diabetes seminar, and they suggested that we both "hack our blood sugar". Very interesting to see the little chart about how it goes up and down during the day. I think I am going to learn something about which carbs are a real problem for me even though I am not diabetic.
Have a great Super Bowl Sunday!4 -

Hi, I'm Kristi and I live near Mt Spokane in Washington state. I'm 37 and married. My husband and I have 3 kids: daughter 10 and sons 8 & 5. I work 4 days a week at a preschool center. I love anything outdoors. The end of February will be my one year anniversary since beginning my weight loss journey. I have lost 35 lbs so far. My goal for February is to get to 40 lbs lost.
I want to work out 5 days a week
Stay in my calorie budget and not eat my exercise calories
Practice self care regularly
Let's all have a great month!
