    Hi all,

@amsandos my parents are the same - they were grumbling how there was no way they were staying home for 3 months and went out to do their wander round the shops and have their coffee as usual. Can't talk to them! I loved your description of the working men's club - think it's such a British thing and I've tried to explain it to foreign friends before now with limited sucess lol.

@Mrsbell8well - your salad looks lovely. I would never think to combine some of those flavours but it actually sounds yummy.

@sleepymom5 - hang in there! I've been guilty with the snacking as well, I think it's a natural response to all the stress going round, annoyingly the cake and biscuit aisles weren't sold out :D

@ljdanny - congrats on the weight loss! Hope things work out with the job x

@lennoncpa - what an adorable pupper :) sorry about your son losing his job but at least as a silver lining you get to spend some time with him

How's everyone hanging in there? I'm still going to work and so far we seem to be muddling along. The main work of the company is construction based so while us in the office team could probably do at least some of our work from home then if the main guys aren't able to get out to sites then it would only be a matter of time before we were struggling to keep going. At the moment they're not actually having too many cancellations and since the schools are closing from Monday they've managed to call up quite a few school sites and bring forward maintenances that were due over the Easter hols. How long we'll be allowed to keep going on site though is a bit unclear.

I'm also worried as they've announced today that buses are going to be running on reduced services from Monday, so not sure if that's going to make it harder to get in. At the moment I'm only going to work and out for food - pretty much everywhere seems to be closing anyway. Cinemas are closed now, local authority gyms closed yesterday, some pubs/bars are closing though there's no official statement that they have to yet.

Trying to stay positive but the stress is getting to me a bit. Had an argument with my friend/flatmate the other day - he's in self-isolation as he has bad asthma and other health issues so is really worried about getting it. He was annoyed that since I'm still going out I wasn't doing enough to 'decontaminate' when I got home and so was upping his risk factor. We've made up now - he was just letting anxiety get to him and I was a bit stressed anyway - but it is a worry I had already which has been made worse now. It's also Mother's Day here in the UK on Sunday and while I would normally visit my mum for it then with the trains being reduced and the increased risk factor I'm not doing this year. Sad not to see her and feeling a bit of guilt as well.

I weighed myself a few days ago and I was down a pound, and now this. Well I am going to keep at it with my healthy eating. I am going to sit less, and I need to increase my activity. I am not interesting in going down the quarantine 15 route, so time to focus! Homeschool starts soon, so this will be a quick check in. My brother dropped by yesterday and we had lovely visit with him standing on one end of our front porch, and me & the kids on the other end!

    @gingerpwr, @brown6267 & @hope002 - Thanks for the steps!
@amsandos - Great job not binging! Enjoy that Prosecco!
@mrsbell8well - Your spring blooms are about a month ahead of ours. Lovely forsythias!
@sleepymom5 - Great day and nice maintain! I am spring cleaning too (when homeschool lets out!). Daisy is such a cutie!
@tryingagain5 - Hope that your job stays safe. The markets have been taking a huge hit, so it is best not to panic sell now, as as your advisor says, the markets will bounce back from this eventually. We need to be patient, although it makes us all nervous.
@lennoncpa- Sorry about your son. It will be nice to spend more time with him and your grand doggie is so cute! Nice loss!
@pacsnc6 - That is good news from your oncologist. We can move you to cheer after this week, but please keep checking in any time if it helps. Prayers and hugs to you!
@1theresamcvean - Nice loss! Your daily intentions are a great way to check in during this difficult time. I feel that stress and anxiety as well. Not all of the time, but it creeps in here and there. Having structure and things to do really helps. Will you be going to your son’s in Uxbridge?
@ljdanny - I am sorry about your job. Hope that things went ok at the supermarket. Nice loss and are you trying to do any Zumba at home?
@jedaschultz - Thanks for checking in and hope that you are doing well.
@podperson1 - Hang in there. It is a stressful time and we are all feeling it. It is hard not seeing your mom on Mother’s Day as well. Hope that you were able to have a nice chat with her on the phone. I am doing the same with my mom as she lives about 90 minutes away and is self-isolating because of her age.

Happy Spring! It actually seems like spring today but going to get cold again. At least March is acting like it normally does. Hang in there everyone.

@Mrsbell8well Love seeing the spring flowers popping up! Your hair is so cute!
@amsandos I am sorry that the museum is closed and you have to take a pay cut. These are tough times. There is not much that your boss can do so it was nice that s/he gave you a little gift. I love prosecco but never tried one that expensive. I am sure if there wasn't all this social distancing you would invite me over ;) Sounds like you have a good plan for being in. Maintaining is a realistic goal.
@hope002, @brown6267 and @GingerPwr Thanks for the steps! Nice job!
@1theresamcvean Nice loss! I also love your message-don't lose sight of the good things. It is easy to get negative in these days. Hugs!
@podperson1 Everyone is feeling stress and it is natural that there will be some head butting with all of what is going on. I am glad you and your flat mate worked things out. I think they are going to reduced schedules here too. I understand why they are doing it but there are a lot of essential workers who rely on public transit. I guess people just have to plan ahead. It is a little sad about Mother's day but think of it as you are giving her a gift by not going. When this is all over you can visit and spoil her. :)
@lennoncpa Wow! You have been doing great! Between this and tax season, you are doing awesome! I am glad that you are keeping up with your workouts. I hope you can find some dancing online to do. I hear they are extending tax season until July 15 now.
@Cafelelia I don't have to tell you to not let the scale get to you. A lot go into that number. Keep doing what you have been doing. I think you are doing great. I had a few unexpected visitors yesterday too and we did the same thing. I think people are doing their last minute errands just incase we have to shelter in place.

So all of California is ordered "safe at home" until April 19th! Its California's nice way of saying shelter in place. We can go to the market, pharmacy and pick up take out from restaurants. Restaurants are only allowed to do take out and we are encouraged to do so to help support them. My 20 year old is not happy that it is until April 19th!

I have had to go to my parents every day, because my mom's dementia is getting worse and one of the care givers can't handle it. I have been researching and found a person who is a senior health manager. I have 3 friends and a doctor who referred her to me. We spoke on the phone and we are going to set up a meeting where we are 6 feet from each other and go over how she can help me get caregivers that have more training in dementia and are not just baby sitters. I have had video calls with my Mom's doctors. Trying to keep her at home. Even if I wanted to put her in a memory unit I think all are on lock down and I wouldn't be able to admit her.

@sleepymom5 can you just skip my weigh in for this past Monday? I ordered a scale that should be here by this weekend, I can then give you a weigh in for next Monday.

@pacsnc6 good news! I know it will be a battle but it sounds like a battle you can win. We will be on the battleground with you virtually!

I have been so stressed with my parents and the world situation, I have not tracked food and I have found myself eating cookies to make myself feel better.

Goal for today, try to come up with a new routine that includes tracking and exercising.

Strawberry salad with roasted pecans, vegan ricotta and balsamic vinaigrette. Also artichokes with aioli and a very small glass of Chardonnay.

@Mrsbell8well Were you happy with the artichokes? Could you share how you prepared them, please? I'd love to prepare some on the weekend. They'd be a good snack because they are a bit slow to eat and fun. Our little vegetable market has them out now but the grocery store is out of the canned ones.

@1theresamcvean Thanks! The doctor's office is closing starting Monday, the doctors are going to be treating patients virtually. My husband used to be the head MA, but wanted a change, so they moved him to IT within the practice. It is a pretty big practice, with 3 offices and every specialist you could think of. He found out yesterday that one of the patients that was in his office on Monday is in critical condition from the Coronavirus, so scary! My husband was in the room where the patient was a few hours later. I am hoping he is fine! As you can imagine, Costco has been insane! He is just grateful he still has both jobs, a lot of people are out of work. We are both lucky that way. I am also able to work, I am working from home. I work for a major financial company, so we are able to continue working.

Hope all is well with you!

I think I will stay here and make a decision at the end of next week whether to go on the cheer squad. I have a couple more appointments before the chemo starts so should be good until Thursday or Friday

@1theresamcvean - I am sure that Angelina has an amazing artichoke recipe and will post it. I will jump in though because my family is from Italy and this is a super easy vegetable to prepare. There are many ways to prepare them and this is how we do them in my family. You slice off the top bits (see Angelina’s photo), trim the bottom stem to flat and rinse (or soak in some water if there is more sand). You fill up a good size pot with about an inch of water, add a few tablespoons of olive oil, salt, pepper and a few garlic cloves to the water. Put the artichokes in the water, sprinkle a little olive oil on them, along with salt & pepper. Bring the water to a boil, then lower temperture to a very low simmer. Depending upon the size of the artichokes, cook them for about 45 minutes. Check every once in a while if a little more water is needed. To check if they are done, take out an artichoke and pull out a leaf to see if it is tender. Some people like them very soft, some people like them al dente, so the cooking time will vary. That’s it. You can eat the heart and inner soft leaves, but you have to skim the outer leaves with your teeth and not eat them whole. There are many ways to prepare them and here is one link on that and also on how to eat. Same with dipping sauces, there are lots to choose from, but I think no sauce is best.

Thanks, Lisa! I actually predicted you would know how too. I've eaten them at Italian friends' houses. Love them but was afraid to try it before.

    Everyone,

Two things to cheer you up. One of my daughter's friends, someone I've never met, drove around the city bringing people homemade Bolognese sauce and a delicious-looking soup. I am a lucky recipient of this act of kindness and I do feel less stressed this afternoon.

Also, I took a screenshot of a Facebook story my DIL posted last night of my granddaughter saying, "I wash my hands." The next one is my DIL and grandson getting some fresh air. h0nt3gya4hzb.jpg

My work decided to stay open until the state mandates a shut down or all kids stay home. I will remain with the most hours they said the other day because I'm management but not holding my breath. It's a nice day out so I decided to quarantine myself in the backyard with the dog. She wants to go in I think, she usually loves it outside. It is starting to get a little windy though. My friend and I decided if it's nice out tomorrow we might meet at one of our houses outside for a drink because we can maintain our distance, we saw it on a Facebook meme and thought it was a good idea. I don't think it will be that nice out or only 1 drink will happen. All the walking trails are now packed with families spending time together. My neighborhood was packed with walkers on my way home from work. My hairdresser's has closed, now I'm a little devastated. lol. But I will not buy box. Stay safe and healthy.

@sleepymom5 besides line dancing, I am also a clogger and a group of clogging instructors across the country are getting together and doing a virtual clogging get together Saturday night at 8 pm. If any of you are interested in checking in out, the link will be through https://www.clogdancing.com. It’s Saturday night at 8 pm eastern standard time. I’m looking forward to that because I do miss my dancing, and especially my dancing buddies.

@ljdanny - You raise a great point about the hairdresser being closed. So many people are experiencing this frustration! There are tutorials out there on Youtube on how to cut & colour your own hair. I just got my done about a week before this happened, so I am good for about 6 weeks, but will just let it go if things are still closed then (that is why we have ball caps, hair bands & pony tails). One of our mods, Beka has been letting her hair go grey naturally, and she is part of an Instagram community as this is now a thing. I asked her to post on our support tips thread to show everyone. I could never do this as don’t have all grey yet, but I also don’t want to just yet either. Beka looks great though and here is the link:

Today in the March Spring It Forward Challenge, we are posting about our comfort food (healthy or not). I love to cook & bake and the process is as much a part of the comfort as the eating. I love making pizza for the family, and I love baking in general. I have mentioned it before here that the Skinnytaste website is great for healthier, lower calorie baking.
